They bring the term "farm to table" to life! Love the patio seating area to the amazing fresh food, this place is not to be missed! Love the idea of "Grilled Cheese Mondays!" I didn't get a chance to partake because they ran out of the necessary ingredients, but it sounded amazing. The place sits on the water and it's everything I didn't know I needed. I want to be here all summer long!

Great vibes and delicious!! I had never heard of Coriander but a friend was in town and was staying nearby. It's by a canal and everything - I didn't even know Detroit had a canal! Anyways, walking into the space and sitting the covered patio seriously felt like I was in Austin, Texas. The fun eclectic furniture, the flowers, the colors. Loved it! The service was great too - super attentive but didn't over-hover or rush us. We had the: *Great Lakes Fried Smelt (1/2 lb served with malt vinegar aioli) - I said outloud...I don't know if I like fried smelt but guess what, I LOVED IT! *Jalapeno & Cheddar Hushpuppies ( Michigan sweet corn, Hampshire Farms cornmeal, jalapenos, cheddar, herbed ranch) - um SO good. perfectly fried. It came in a basket of 8. Plenty for us 4 gals to share. *Kale & Farm Turnip Salad (Grilled turnips & Tuscan kale with tahini-pecorino-anchovy dressing, garlic bread crumbs & pine nuts) - SOOO well dressed and delicious. Love a good grilled turnip. Really enjoyed this salad. I also ordered a Farm Marg which was delish (Luna Azul tequila, jalalpeño & cilantro simple syrup, lime & Triple Sec. Salt, sugar or Tajin rim). That Tajin rim! Also cilantro simple syrup?! Yes. (but no if you have that gene that makes cilantro taste like soap!) I will say that my friend's Coriander seven layer dip looked a little more like an app than an entree (and she ate it as the later). The only down side is that they don't have an espresso machine, so only drip coffee. I'll have to come back for one of their dinners! They look fantastic - like a paddle + eat dinner or a guest chef / collab dinner!

We've been wanting to here for a long time and we finally made it!! Street parking was packed (there is more parking past the restaurant across the bridge), it's free but be careful of the areas/signs for the Detroit River Sports place (not sure if that is free or not). One thing to note is that there is literally nothing else by this restaurant so plan a day where you come but then leave and check out other places maybe 10-20 mins away (we ended up going to Father Forgive Me, Pewabic Pottery, & the new Warda Patisserie). Of course there is the Detroit River Sports place next door for Canal activities etc. Anyway, make a reservation to get the best seats! We didn't but we came early enough to get a table near some shade along the canal. Wonderful setting! It was fun seeing people kayak/canoe by and we some a couple SUP right up to the restaurant! Coffee (Craig's Coffee) was delicious and the Farm Margarita was soooo good. We really enjoyed the Whitefish toast (maybe a touch salty) but it was highly recommended by our nice waiter. I got the Kale & Turnip Salad which was very good/filling but not that it's highly dressed (at least for me it was, I prefer dressing on the side so it's not as much but I didn't realize it but it was fine), and my hubby got the Mole carrot tacos which yeah, we're not very flavorful so he added some of my salad which helped. He enjoyed it any way but wouldn't likely reorder that dish. Overall, a great place to check out on a lazy weekend summer day. I love that it's all locally sourced foods (?99%) and just a totally different place in Detroit!

In the three years since I first attempted Coriander Kitchen, they have done better, and I happy that my recent visit was a good experience. The first time my friends and I tried the restaurant, it was the worst customer service experience I've ever had- it's still an occasional joke amount us, it was that bad. I love the atmosphere and the concept, I'd now be happy to return. I ended up coming back inadvertently, my friend and I kayaked next door and she wanted to check it out. We were there late afternoon on a Saturday and were able to get the two seats at the bar right away, and without a reservation. Half of their menu regularly changes, with a focus on seasonal and local items. They also have fun, fresh cocktails and non alcoholic options, the ice tea was perfect after a hot day kayaking. My friend and I split a seasonal veggie flatbread and the fish and chips. The fries were particularly good. The fish breading had a bit of a kick, which was great, and the fish was flaky. One of the pieces in our order was not a whole piece however, half was only breading. The coleslaw was a side note. We sat inside as that was what was open and the interior is fun and artsy, fish hung swimming from the ceiling. The patio on the canal is the highlight, definitely a surprise oasis on the edge of the city.

We went here for a Saturday lunch and sat outside by the canal. We had a number of shareables that we really enjoyed. We had the giant pretzel, Marrow burger with fries, 7-layer dip, and the smoked fish on toast for a party of 3. All were really good, but our least favorite was the 7 layer dip. Had a really nice waiter and enjoyed watching the ducks on the canal.

I'm updating my review since my initial visit last year. Food has subsequently improved! Overall 4.5/5 (rounding up). I will always support a farm-to-table model, but Coriander is really unique. I would recommend it based on the location, atmosphere, and service alone. This is one of the best spots to go in the metro area during patio season, bar none. Their cocktails are divine (the Farm Marg is a must and I love the Lady Bug) and they have a pretty diverse beer selection as well. The menu rotates seasonally. Food highlights (for me) have included the hush puppies, Marrow burger, grilled cheeses, fried smelt. This is a hidden gem. Go book a table ASAP.

Every time we eat at Coriander - brunch, lunch, dinner, apps & drinks - we leave raving. Being farm to table, everything is extremely fresh. Their many changes but you truly can't go wrong on anything you order. This is our favorite restaurant in Detroit. The service is always great - bartender Chris was so friendly and went above & behind. The ambiance of the restaurant is my favorite - the decor is so cute. We love coming here.

We were meeting up with a couple friends in the Detroit area Canal district. This is an absolutely fantastic place. The food is fresh and farm to table is their model. Their menu is also rotational and seasonal, which keeps things very fresh. This is definitely placed to visit when you are in the canal area of Detroit. The service and the staff were excellent. It was a beautiful day and sitting outside was spectacular. We will return again.

Fantastic & friendly service, delicious cocktails. We had the Farm Margarita & For the Bees. Lunch was Thai Basil Chicken which was a little spicy (in a good way) and the Seven Layer Dip. We love this place with its relaxed boho vibe on Detroit's canals. Reserve, if you can & on weekends always check to make sure there isn't a private event to avoid disappointment

Gorgeous Winter Solstice special event dinner! This was prepaid and ticketed for $100 all in, including food, tax/tip, and to my surprise, alcohol as well. (Draft beer, house wines included; cocktails or specialty drink orders added cost. I loved the American style lager included though - crisp, refreshing, and paired beautifully with the dinner menu.) Ambiance was 10/10 right away, walking into such a cozy and festive atmosphere full of holiday and eclectic decor. Don't miss the little retail corner with beautifully curated goods. Our party's table was set SO adorably, with printed menus with all our names on them too. The chef came out before the dinner began to say a few words about what these solstice dinners mean to her, the thought and intention that went into planning this meal, the sourcing. And then read us a lovely poem about the hope that the winter solstice brings so many, with longer and more bountiful days ahead. It added extra appreciation for the meal! Ok and the food!! Thematic, intentional, fresh, and so tasty. We started strong with a radicchio salad with radish, fennel, and a zippy anchovy-lemon vinaigrette that was an amazing flavor punch. The quality of the anchovy flavor really shone in this one, and loved that the egg yolk in the dressing added a creamy thickness. Then came out bread and a deliciously subtle raclette cheese, with Ludacrisp apples (heh), stone ground mustard, and a cranberry applesauce as accoutrements. Second course was a smoked salmon rosti situation, which was super yummy as well. And then my favorite - the main - a Norwegian seafood stew with halibut, scallop, shrimp & mussels, leek, fennel, celeriac, carrot in a chive tarragon dill fish broth. Omg divine. It was somehow creamy yet light and this flavor combination is one I've never encountered in a fish stew before and want to immediately try recreating at home. Additionally, every seafood morsel was so good, with super super delicate halibut, fleshy shrimp, and savory mussels. Finally capped it off with a dark chocolate, sugared cranberry tart which was a great way to close out with something sweet, and perfectly festive for the season! Must also shout out the 10/10 service. Our waitress was so pleasant and professional, and very attentive to when waters and beverages needed refills. Only sad thing was that since it was so dark outside, I couldn't see any of the surrounding area, canals, etc. Just means I'll have to come back to check it all out!

What isn't to love? Perfect ambiance right on the canal, nice staff and bartenders (shout out to Chris at the bar!) and the menu is so fresh! My favorites are the white fish dip and the fish and chips, but you can't go wrong with any food or drinks. They all have awesome desserts!

If you want to sit outside, all you have to do is order at the bar and they'll serve your drinks in plastic cups for you to take outside. The rhubarb pie punch was so delicious I had to order it twice! Probably one of my favorite cocktails I've ever had. I also ordered the maurixio cattelan, which tasted like ginger ale. For a snack before dinner, we chose to get the burrata and it was so refreshing. The service was great and our bartender was super friendly! The logo with the little lamb is adorable. Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced. So I will have to consider returning for a full meal. I would come back for a burger and beer at the bar.

The theme was "Yes, Chef: An exploration of culinary icons through a cocktail lens." Each drink was inspired by or dedicated to a famous culinary icon, and you can read about each one in the index. We each ordered one drink from each section. From the Opening, I chose the Diaspora Club, which was so refreshing and delicious. Then from the Principals, I chose the Chingona, which was a little bit spicy and savory but still so refreshing. To Finish, I chose the Chocolatier Cosmo, which came with a tiny house-made salted dark chocolate. I loved all three cocktails I ordered, especially the chocolatier cosmo because it was perfectly sweet and went so well with the small piece of chocolate. For food, we started off with the crispy pork belly milk bread. For my entree, I ordered the miso butter gnocchi. It was kind of on the salty side but I still really liked it.
