Had an appointment with Bailey and could not recommend her more! I scheduled with her about 2 weeks in advance to get two smaller pieces during my vacation. She replied quickly and was very accommodating when my brother asked for an appointment after mine. The shop is very clean and everyone was friendly. Bailey encouraged me to move my stencils and didn't make me feel guilty at all when I did ask for an adjustment, which has happened to me in the past with other artists. She was also very patient with my brother (this was his first tattoo); she explained every step of the process and checked in with him regularly. He ended up feeling a little light-headed and she was quick to give him a lollipop and encourage him to take his time getting up. Came to the shop while on vacation with a group of people and we had an amazing experience. We booked some time months in advance and they were extremely accommodating when it came to fitting us all in and working with us on the designs. We called/visited two tattoo shops on 7/18/24 in the Nags Head area on our recent trip there - and we are so thankful we were able to choose Vertigo! The crew at Vertigo was so nice and accommodating. GiGi was our artist - she was kind to us and very patient (especially considering we weren't 100% sure on the exact dynamics of the two tattoos)! She talked with us about it and drew up a beautiful stencil - we LOVE our new ink! Gigi you are such a talented artist! Thank you! Everyone that was working there when we showed up were just incredibly welcoming, easy going and caring - they did a continual check to make sure all the customers there were being helped out. Gigi was amazing! Super easy to book a last minute appointment with, she had such a light and steady hand, personable and efficient. Would definitely recommend her and will be going back. The shop was an old house, inside had really rad decor and tattoo history. We were greeted by another artist outside who was friendly. Calm and welcoming vibe. My friend got his ears pierced for the first time and the man who did his was rad as well as informative on aftercare. The worst customer service I've ever encountered in a tattoo parlor. I called the shop earlier in the day to arrange appointments and was told to head to the shop (a 45 min drive). While on the way I again called to confirm and the man on the phone was super rude and disrespectful and told me not to come after I had already driven 30 mins. Terrible customer service, rude staff. I will never come here and will tell everyone I know to avoid this place like the plague. read more

This is the second time I've been to Vertigo, the first time was just for touch-ups and I was extremely impressed. Came back this year for a full on shoulder piece. My family and I tried making an appointment over a week and a half in advanced for 3 small wave tattoos. (Even though they advertise walk-ins, we wanted to be courteous of their time). Collectively we called 5 times, to which nobody answered. We then messaged on Facebook and emailed the photos with placement and size. We were told someone would get back to us and NOBODY EVER replied. My MIL messaged them 8 times on Facebook. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place before! I've been here twice, both times to see Cassandra. She did a large horse head on my thigh, and then my dog's paw print on my forearm. They both turned out absolutes perfectly! She's a wonderful artist, can't say enough good things about her! The shop is a house - I was very confused the first time I went there. But it's actually really cool, as well as super clean and neat. I felt totally comfortable there, and the other artists were really nice (and very talented). He really takes the time to explain things to you for aftercare. And he'll help you change out your jewelry when its healed. I've had several tattoos done here. Was very excited to try this place and booked a month ahead for my daughter in law & myself to get a memorial simple design tattoo for my grandson. we always got a Tat together when on vacation and just had to have it done in OBX! We normally went to the Wicked Parrot, but they were not sure if they would be open. Well, booked a month ahead and on the day we were to have it done Brad called and said he didn't have the time to get it together! Seriously???!!! We were devastated, this was very important to us and not a difficult job!! Lucky for us we called the Wicked Parrot who were always a great place and the new owner hooked us up with the Black Flag Tattoo shop . We were both tattooed and on our way back by 6pm and that was with a 2 hour beautiful drive to Hatteras! Jazz was wonderful and did a great job and only took an hour for each of us! She was greatly appreciative of the generous tip that Brad missed out on! I should have listened to the negative reviews! If vacationing try the new Black Flag in Kitty Hawk which should be open soon or the one in Hatteras if Vertigo lets you down! They are very eager to please!! read more

I can't speak for the tattoo services, but the piercer, Mark Wiseman, was absolutely incredible! I went in to get my nose pierced and I was extremely nervous. He took the time to explain everything to me and made sure that I was ready before proceeding. He then talked me through the entire procedure and was very nice and calm. He has been piercing for 25 years and I have never had someone do a piercing better than him. I would most definitely recommend him. He was also very clean and sterile! I had no worries while he was piercing me! My friend also got her tongue web done and she agrees that Mark was awesome. read more

Went here with the wife to get matching tattoos to commemorate our vacation down here. The shop itself was insanely clean and had a great vibe (especially with the big ass awesome scary spider that decided to nest on the tree near the house). The artists are all very friendly and do great work. The prices are a bit more than what I am used to, but considering it's one of the only shops in the area and it's near such a tourist spot, it makes sense. I did a bunch of research on my tattoo, but I hadn't found a parlor in which I felt comfortable, and for a hip tattoo I think comfort with your artist is pretty important. The location is an awesome renovated Victorian house, they were very cleanly and I felt comfortable. I got my tattoo in 2010 and it still looks fantastic. Great experience overall. read more

we called multiple times to set up tattoo appointments. we were told off the bat that we would be accommodated and to call back to leave deposits. upon doing this we were told we needed to email the artist what we wanted and then call back in order to save our spots. we did so and called back multiple times and received no answer. we called again the next morning. 4 calls and no answer. after the 5th call we finally got an answer and were told that our appointments had been filled since we didnt call back the night before, even though we had. we were treated very rudely on the phone, and it made us literally not want to even go there anymore. extremely poor customer service. we called a different tattoo shop and were accommodated immediately. highly discourage wasting your time with this place. read more

Came down here for vacation and decided to venture out to Vertigo Tattoo for a touch up of a previous tattoo I had gotten done in VA. Service was outstanding at this shop. They fit me in, as well as my friend who was also getting a tattoo fixed. We both saw Brad and he did the best job. He fixed both tattoos no problem, and was extremely nice. The piercer at this establishment, Mark, who asserts he has been piercing for 26 years, did a horrific job. For one, he did not discuss with me the pricing for the piercings, simple second holes in my ear lobes. He said that it was my fault, as they priced it at $40/lobe (emphasis on lobe, as though we might have been hard of hearing) even though their pricing chart said no such thing. He did not give me an idea of the pricing before he took me back to the room to get my ears pierced. No, instead by the time my ears were pierced, I was given a bill for $82. Mark claims I didn't balk, and perhaps outwardly I showed no emotion, but I'm shocked. For a simple lobe piercing, which he joked was too simple, I had to pay nearly $100? And no, Mark, your sign was not clear enough. Otherwise, I did not get any say in where my piercings were placed. This is highly abnormal, and the piercings themselves are asymmetric. I wish I'd been told between the application of iodine and marking for the piercing that I could choose. Again, this was defended with the statement, "She knew what she was getting into." I'd explained to Mark I had last gotten my ears pierced when I was 5, I had no idea of procedure. Even the instruments used weren't particularly explained. And lastly, I wasn't given anything to clean my ears with. Now, Mark admitted he had no Bactine to sell me, but to sell a cleanser after charging that amount? I can't speak for tattoos, but I highly recommend you go elsewhere for jewelry and piercings. Mark was incredibly unhelpful on the phone, and next to silent during the piercing itself. read more

My best friend and I stopped here on our way out of OBX on a whim to get matching beach tattoos. I read a review that Vertigo is expensive, so we were weary; however, we realized that it's one of only two (?) tattoo shops in the area. We called and learned that the shop minimum is only $40 and were pleasantly surprised--very cheap for what we are used to at home (northern VA). We went in and it was packed, and initially doubted we'd get seen that day. But we were seen maybe half an hour later. The receptionist (blue hair female, septum piercing) was extremely friendly and helpful. The shop is very clean and attractive. The only drawback for me was its size; normally a friend can go in with you when you're getting inked or pierced (in my experience) but there simply isn't space there for that. Both my friend and I were inked by Jim, who was very professional and accommodating. The process was fast and thorough, as the tattoos we received are pretty small. I didn't expect to have them filled in, but rather just an outline for so cheap. Once again, pleasantly surprised. Jim did a beautiful job on both of us. We will likely be back next summer! :) read more
