As a wine shop, Verve has a great selection spanning many countries, styles, and price points. Whether you're looking for something off the beaten path, like a white from the Canary Islands or some heavy hitter Burgundy producers like Roumier, you'll find something for every occasion. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable as well. I came in with a specific ask and they pointed me in the right direction. I also asked for some recommendations and he pulled a few bottles, all under $40. A super fun shop in Pac Heights. Two things that I wish were different, but perhaps just isn't written in the cards: (1) A lot of the wines are very high up on the shelves, which makes casual perusing very difficult. Asking the staff to climb up and grab random bottles just feels like a big ask. I personally like looking at the importer, ABV, and other details on the label to help me shop and this is only possible for about 50% of the wines that are accessible without a ladder; (2) Unfortunately, they no longer allow guests to purchase a bottle to drink in the shop, which is unfortunate because I love browsing the shelves at Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant and finding a bottle to open up in the shop to drink. If you're looking for a great bottle shop to pick up something to drink at home or to give as a gift, this is a great spot. Verve wine is a wine shop with an extensive collection of wines that is tucked away on Fillmore street. While it didn't really seem like they had anything to eat, I ended up enjoying a wine flight while there. It was 3 glasses for around 32$. The wines were pretty interesting and the people working there seemed quite knowledgeable on the wine. The sitting area inside is quite nice and it's cool being able to see all the different bottles stacked up along the sides. There is also an option to buy a bottle, pay a corkage fee of 15$ and enjoy it in the shop. Was walking by and noticed this beautiful wine shop on my way home from the vet. The folks inside were busy with inventory or something but very friendly. I usually just pick wine by whatever label catches my eye the most and that doesn't always yield the best results. This shop had so much! So many amazing wines to choose from. I needed help. This time I asked for a recommendation and the shop keepers were eager to point me in the direction of something they have been loving lately. Verve and I are going to be seeing a lot of each other. It's recently come to my attention, after a visit to Verve, that my favorite way to drink wine is pretty much anyplace I can purchase a bottle at retail cost and consume that bottle on-site with little or no additional mark-up. If I can do that in a place with a stunning interior, one that makes me feel better than I actually am, all the better. Verve and I? We're going to be BFFs. The original Verve is a wine shop in NYC's Tribeca. The concept is improved upon in San Francisco. Intimately surrounded by walls of wines, priced from completely reasonable (bottles can be found in the $20 range) to completely unreasonable, there's something here for every price point. The staff is well-versed in directing you to a selection should you be capable of describing what it is you like and throw no shade if you start by saying "I like something in the $40 and under range...". Once you've decided on a bottle, swanky glassware with the thinnest of stems is laid in front of you, and that bottle is yours to enjoy. Seated communally at the gorgeous natural stone tabletop that dominates the entire center of the shop, sharing wine with your friends, you will surely strike up conversation at some point with those nearby. What a lovely invitation. Verve has a couple of oddities that I think they could improve upon: * Wine flights can be had here but there's no printed information on pricing provided to guests; and * Food is of the cheese/charcuterie genre and they were out of much of it at the time I visited. There are 20 of those in the city that have more variety and a more educated staff. I understand if you weren't making money on the wine tastings and chose to stop that model, but you also killed the one thing that made your shop truly unique. This is the same Verve, as the one from NYC's Tribeca neighborhood. It's one of the new places now amongst other nice shops along Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights. Inside this beautiful new space, you'll find wines from all over the world at varying price points. I saw many in the $20 to $50 price range. Unfortunately, I arrived when they were just about closing, so I didn't get a chance to chat with them extensively, but if you're in the neighborhood, it's worth a peek inside. The huge marble table in the center is a wow-piece! I wish I had a kitchen that would accommodate a huge center table like that. If you want to rose all day this summer, they have a huge offering of rose wines out in front. I love a glass of rose in the warm weather, but I think it's really because I like the attractiveness of the pink blush hue in a wine glass. Their focus is on wines from smaller producers, which make your wine buying excursion ever more interesting. This is a great spot on Fillmore! I came here with my boyfriend for a tasting before dinner on a Saturday. We walked in and didn't have to make an appointment. The ambience is incredible, the music great, and the service top notch. There were two staff on hand that seamlessly served us our different wines. We did a tasting of 3 wines. All 3 wines were truly something special and the portions were much more than you typically expect at a tasting. We ordered the trio of cheeses and crackers as well and were blown away by the relatively low prices for the area, as well as the unique selection of cheeses. You get a good serving of cheese as well! After the tasting, we were not pressured at all to buy any wine, which is always nice. More like a 3.5stars. It's definitely more of a wine shop than a wine bar. They have 3 open bottles for you to try at a given time. They'll route the wines available for pours. The wine is $22 for 2oz pours. You can also get a glass as well with ~5oz, as they say. They actually let you sip the wine before you order a full glass of it. The full glass pours seem a bit low than probably at restaurants or wine bars, but it's nice to try out the wines. It's also a nice place to just buy a bottle on site with the help of the staff and consume in on site. The only downside is the snack selection is fairly limited and subpar. Many of the cheeses & charcuterie are large portions and they don't have a sampler of them. One thing to note is if you do order their flight, you can get 10% off of each of the full bottles from the flight. You can also sign up for their rewards program as well. Overall, it's a nice wine shop to buy wines that you normally won't find at Total Wine or Bevmo. I'd skip the food and just try get the whole bottle, which do come in a range of prices. read more

I visited this place for the first time the other day when strolling the area in the afternoon. It's a great addition to the area yet think there's a few things customers should know: 1. the current flight cost $32, which is comparable to what you'd pay in wine country, sans ambience of wine country, 2. I asked if they had a roster of the wines they were offering in the flight or by glass so I could read about them, but was told by the guy that he is the roster and will provide all the information yet didn't divulge pricing--I prefer transparency like other wine rooms, and 3. they have food offerings but I didn't pay it much attention. I decided to order a glass of wine and still was not told the price--a customer should never have to ask and wouldn't have to in a restaurant. A glass is 5 ounces, not bad but not great depending on your perspective and was $20, which was a bit steep compared to other establishments. Bottom line, I like to be an educated consumer and feel proprietors should be transparent with information, especially pricing. I didn't look at their wine bottle selections but it seemed that they had a broad range of offerings. For now, I'm giving it three stars and will update if frequenting in the future. read more

Not sure I wanna call them a "wine shop" because its such an amazingly done setup, but thats what it really is. Large inviting table and chairs in the middle. Nice selection of wines of all kinds. I think the prices are reasonable. You can buy anywhere from $20-200 (or more) if you'd like. Adam is super friendly. You can even buy some new Zalto wine glasses from them (the ones they serve all their wines in). The wine club is great. $100 / 4 bottles monthly from a different region. Again the markup on those is minimal to the point they're actually great deals. They sell wines from lot of small producers as well. I discovered this cute wine place when I was walking around the neighborhood with my friends. We were planning to buy a couple bottles of wine and drinking them at home. However, the super cute environment of Verve Wine made us decide to drink there instead. Unlike what we thought, Verve wine is decently priced. You can find good-quality $10-$20 bottle wine or more than $200 bottle wine. What we really like about this place is that you can buy a bottle and just drink it there without paying any extra fee. There's always a diverse and interesting selection of wines from local and smaller producers with great flavor profiles. I've been wanting to check this place out for awhile and finally went in today. Really cute wine bar/wine shop with a lot of reasonably priced wines. I also loved their glassware. But the wine flight today was a let down. We were given very little description of the wines as they poured them and they got worse as the tasting went on. We had a good Austrian gruner veltliner, then a rose from the finger lakes that was just ok, and finally a red from the Canary Islands that was terrible. We left without finishing the tasting.
