I came back to this wine bar to see the closing night of Ripples and Ruptures by Alvar Jacomet, a local artist experimenting with different mediums and textures on this canvases. This wine bar is cozy down a short alleyway between Two popular restaurants. I think most of us would have bypass this hidden bar and didn't even know it exists. The owner is really nice to his patrons and workers as well. I was introduced to this place through a Yelp event and this is one of few places I have actually gone back to on my own. For closing night you can buy tickets for a raffle and all proceeds will go for the artist which is great! There is both alcoholic and few non alcoholic drinks which is nice. I like how this place is small, casual and intimate and not scary or felling of being rushed out or anything. I found it quite relaxing after a long day at work. I know German drinks are normally good, so I went with the nonalcoholic German Malt beer and it was great! Good taste and I sipped it slowly and as I took my time, the young artist was showing a lady his paintings in the walls and explain his inspirations and what the subject matter is about. I decided to introduced myself and I joined the mini tour of all his paintings which was informative and I leaned anyone can be an artist as you first can start it as your hobby and it may become more like he did and do a solo show. read more

This little wine bar is so charming and cute. It's perfect for a date night or to just catch up with friends in an intimate setting. I had the orange and white blend and it was crisp and delicious, and wasn't too sweet which I liked. My husband got the non-alcoholic Riesling and loved it. I was shocked there was no alcohol in it, and the taste was great. We were there for Halloween so they had these delicious cupcakes and pumpkin/squash stuffing. The food was impeccable. I went to Hotel Biron for a friends birthday party and it was a vibe! The entire ceiling of the wine bar is decked out in wine bottle corks and the inside has a very industrial but tavern cozy vibe. The staff was incredibly kind and even helped give my friend a towel and bandaids when he accidentally broke a wine glass. There is tons of seating and a back room as well as a large comfy couch. Another plus was that they also offer non-alcoholic wine and sparking wine for those who prefer mocktails! All in all definitely recommend Hotel Biron :) read more

Staff are friendly when you come in, but as the evening goes on, you can hear them and the owner start gossiping about customers, which leaves a bitter taste. Have also seen the owner tending to the bar, tipsy and more colorful in his words, when he starts talking about other customers. Overall, a nice cozy spot, despite the awful personality of the staff and owner. Would not advise any wine distributors or makers to taint their reputation by working with this place. There are a few cozy couches as well as wooden seats with tables sprinkled around. It's a nice little bar which is thankfully on the quiet side and the bathrooms are fairly nice. Favorite bar in SF! They really nailed the ambiance, it's so romantic and feels like you've stepped into Europe, although the tiny alley it's tucked away in can be sketch at times. Came here two separate occasions on weekday evenings. Not too busy but not too empty either. Mostly a couples place but they do have a couch area for bigger groups. I like the variety of seating here - there's couches, two person tables, larger couch area, and bar seating. Hotel Biron tries to be Inconspicuous by hiding itself in an alley behind Zuni Cafe, but I was smart enough to check out the Yelp reviews before hand because the only clue to this place is a glowing orange "B" sign. What does the "B" stand for? B stands for Bacchus. They are serious about their wine choices (heavy on European varietals) and looking at that looong list will make your brain work extra hard. Order their cheese/charcuterie plate to keep your synapses firing away. B stands for Break. It will break the bank. They have 30+ wines by the glass, but do not offer wine flights. Ask for a taste from the barman before making a choice. B stands for Berate. As in, I'm berating myself for not seeking this place out sooner! B stands for Babe. Seriously, bring your babe when you go here on date night: exposed brick, cozy interior and low lighting. Hey, everyone looks good in candle light, right? B stands for Banging. Very disappointing experience. I went here 10 years ago and the place was so much classier. This time, I got there when it first opened at 5pm, man who was opening had obnoxious music on that was off putting and pretended like he didn't notice my guest and me. We waited 30 minutes with two crumpled paper menus with a VERY limited selection of wine. Vintages were all quite young. Since Zuni's bar opened at 5:30 and was around the corner, we just left our wrinkled paper menus and had a very nice evening. I am sad, this place used to be one of my favorite wine bars. read more

Definitely worth stopping by to try their cheese and charcuterie with generous portions and an a la carts, build your own charcuterie plate that won't break the bank. $8 per cheese, $9 per charcuterie, and $4 per accoutrement including pears and dates that paired so well with the triple cream and the blue cheeses. This place is such a hidden gem! My friends and I had an impromptu holiday party here last week and it was absolutely perfect! The area in the back (past the bar) was ideal for our group and gave us a semi private area! We had a delicious cheese plate and were able to order in dinner from a nearby pizza spot. (I'm such a sucker for a bar that allows outside food) The bartender was able to make recommendations that suited everyones pallet for wine! I ended up buying a bottle to take to my bf's mom based on the bartender's expert advise. They also have a killer beer and sake selection. Ok this place is literally perfect for a date. Dim lighting, cozy tables, wine by the bottle and an assortment and cheese plate items. We ordered a delicious bottle of red and a triple cream cheese. You have to order at the bar. Sounds like a great idea, but it's such a tiny bar that if the 3 bar seats are filled you won't really be able to speak with the bartender about recommendations or tastings or anything else, as it creates an awkward environment in which you're talking over other guests. We also weren't asked if we wanted water along with our bottle of wine and cheese, which required another trip to the bar to wait until conversations paused long enough for me to place my request -- minor inconvenience for an otherwise lovely place. Even though service at the bar was overtly unfriendly and frazzled, I can still appreciate the specialness of Hotel Biron. It's dark & cavern-like. It's casual but sexy. It feels very European, in that effortlessly cool kind of way. A true hidden gem. You order everything at the bar (hence, the frazzled bartender). The wine list is divided by region, repping US, France, Italy, Germany, South America, Spain, New Zealand, etc. Over 20 wines offered by the glass, but bottles are definitely a better deal. I did the math: bottle price is 3x the glass price, and you definitely get at least 5 glasses in a bottle! After all, this is the kind of place you want to stay and lounge for a while, so bottles make sense. Food is simple: build your own cheese & charcuterie plates. What more do you need? Nothing really. As a bonus, they have a small selection of bottled beers BUT they have my most favorite Belgian brew - Straffe Hendrik tripel. They ran out the night I was there (they did have the quad but I like the tripel more) but the sure fact that they offer it, plus the cosy atmosphere, are good enough reasons to return. read more

The bread here was plentiful, enough to soak up all of Jack the Ripper's bloody remains. The bar lady tender was a bitch, but this is Frisco, and I shouldn't have called it that. My last review of San Francisco :( I think. I can't really remember all the places we visited in this beautiful city. Anyway, we found Hotel Biron because Frank M had seen it on TV somewhere or heard it on a podcast he listens to. We make the trip here using the muni. It's actually pretty easy to get to if you know where it is. It was kind of last at night when we made our way over here. And it seems like it's in a shady part of town. (Although, it probably wasn't) It's just that everything around it was closed. And the name is kind of misleading I think. We were looking for some big hotel. But the entrance was actually at the back of a low traffic street. I don't even think there were any signs for this place. Anyway, we found it fine. Inside of the bar was nice. I think it was a bar. There weren't too many people in here. They told us to sit wherever we wanted so we chose the spot at the way back. The couches there were the kind where you just sink into it and fall asleep. Although... reading the reviews now from other yelpers, I'm thinking we shouldn't have sat there. LOL. This place is a nice little spot. And, I'd probably go back here. read more
