Today I went to the VA Clinic to ask for a copy of my last lab report. I sue to be able to get it on the spot. The system has changed . First I filled out a form. Then I was told it would be out from Tucson. Why doesn't have the local VA control. Tucson doesn't have anything to do with this. They mailed me the wrong medication I longer don't need. Summer 2023; much has changed within the SV VA clinic, and I believe for the best. In past reviews I was critical of the up front customer service reps. Today I can honestly say, a wonderful turnaround that any patient would want from a leading medical provider. Kudos and accord those in charge who listened and to the members themselves. This veteran appreciates all that you do. Many go well "above and beyond!" Only concern... more local mental health providers would be great. First time experience after transferring from Tucson va. Yearly exam with a nurse practitioner, not an actual doctor that I requested before transferring. Very nice and courteous at first impression. But careless after that visit when it come to my health care issues. Never called me to report and explain lab or x-ray results. Refused to authorize continue medical services with my chiropractor. Very disappointed with some staff rude behavior. Very disappointed with services and lack of interest for my health. read more

I tried to call & get a PT follow up, as recommended by Dr. Blankenship last year, & told a note would be sent to yet another PC, Dr. Green. Three days later I got a call back telling me I HAD to see the PC "because it's been a year since you were seen by physical therapy and the doctor says you need to see her first." Thankfully I could be seen the following Monday. I left work an hour & 45 minutes early for my 3pm appt, then told they were running behind due to a power outage earlier in the day. Carlos told me upon check in that he was going to call my about my orthotics arriving, so why couldn't they call me & tell me to show later? I was finally seen at 4 pm, an hour after my scheduled time. Dr. Green seems to have good intentions, though frustrating to have her repeatedly push labs on me after I told her five times that after three previous submissions, this CBOC should have recent labs from my civilian provider scanned into the system. After enough pushing, she finally located them. The appointment hit a further rough patch when she told me I could've just scheduled the PT on my own. I made it clear that I was told that I HAD to come see her first, by her own direction. She prescribed wrist braces, but alas, the CBOC was dark & the last guy there escorted me out the door with two LEFT braces & no one to schedule my follow up labs, leading to more time wasted at work on hold today. Thankfully I got Tabitha on the phone, who seems to understand that some of us work & can't take repeated time off. She managed to find me a right wrist brace, and schedule the remaining labs Dr. Green wants + my PT at the same time & within my schedule. Thanks, Tabitha, I appreciate the efficiency. PS The clerks are still asking very personal questions for the entire lobby to hear. read more

This clinic and it's staff are doing great. Unfortunately they are managed by the VA in Tucson and national. Thus means a whole list of bureaucratic nightmares you must wade through to use them or if they can't help you. read more

Once you get in the staff and generally friendly and competent. However to get in is the problem. If you call the number you will wade through voice prompts from hell just to be told your number 107 in the queue. This is my experience. I did not wait but I am certain it was a call center somewhere else, hopefully in the US. So once you talk to them they will have to transfer your call and I bet it never goes to the right place the first time. So if you have unlimited time patience along with the technical expertise to wade through their voice prompts you may have a good experience. If they are trying to avoid veterans they are successful. read more

Wait time needs major improvements. I went in to get a replacement ID card and waited for almost an hour. Ridiculous.

Most of my contacts with the VA over several years have been acceptable. Concerning the volume of folks they are caring for, they do a good job. However, today I visited the Sierra Vista Audiology department and was not the least bit impressed with the tech. He was rude, demanding and obviously not a vet himself. When I expressed that the hearing aids I received were not working well, he asked "what did they cost you"? My answer was nothing out of my pocket but someone had to pay for them out of our taxes. He obviously is bitter about the benefits we Vets have received and earned. There were five of us in the waiting room when he entered. Hw had a sour look on his face and bluntly commented "there are obviously more days in the week to be seen than Friday". He obviously felt burdened by having to do something. read more

Here's the info. 4 regular MSA (the admins who answer phone and "bridge" to Dr.) on staff, Kathy= best they get Carlos=damn good Kathleen= OK in person, not on phone Rhonda=horrid, avoid at all costs. Mr. Nelson-New office manager/supervisor. = 60 days on job, nice enough but bad (old NCO) trait of defending subordinates without taking responsibility/acknowledge problem. Been there done that too, just be aware so you know how to approach him. Dr. Fields=retired (she was great), Dr. Hendrickson= don't mess around. He'll blow you off if he thinks a second of his time has been misused. But knowledgeable, also be prepared to be told to lose weight (regardless of anything else). Lorna Cook, PA.= nothing bad, nothing spectacular, which is comparably good here. ALL providers difficult to get appointments, usually 6-12 week wait for general appointment. Providers come and go quickly. The clinic can't retain staff and can't get numbers up to operational strength. As soon as they fill a slot someone leaves. Maybe the new office manager will help things but, judging only from my contact, he's more into keeping problems in house and defending his troops than taking necessary action. i.e. I don't know if he recognizes when it's time to verbally counsel and when to actually do the Article 15. He admits he's inherited a nightmare and has already dealt with four Congessional inquiries, and there will be more. Bottom line: we're stuck using the SV CBOC. Keep your own records, stay on top of the clinic, deal with the good eggs, make your own follow-up calls if they don't call you, write down who you deal with, why, when and for how long, don't be afraid to call the Congressman's office (they are well aware of the problems). Above all remain motivated, engaged and calm. read more

Have always found staff to be friendly and professional. Main complaint is the same as any other VA facility, they're understaffed and overworked. I don't mind waiting as long as you tell me with a smile. ;) read more

I am a medically retired Vietnam era veteran and had never applied for benefits through the V. A. because I had lost my DD214. Through the encouragement of a church member I applied and within 3 weeks had a copy of my DD214 and was enrolled into the NEW & IMPROVED V. A.!!! I now have new eyeglasses and was offered hearing aids (I think I'll wait a little longer (What? Speak up Dear)! I am able to see a local physician (due to shortage of V.A. Docs)! The wait times and folks in line have been streamlined since the previous reviews. It was only a matter of time that the previous V. A. administration was replaced and our younger era Veterans were given the healthcare they deserve. Thank all of our Veterans for their service and keep us all in your prayers! Thank your V.A. Friendly and efficient staff. Yes, there are lots of patients waiting. Yes, they are likely understaffed for the amount of through put. However, I was there today to enroll post retirement from the military. Kathleen enrolled me. She was fast, friendly, and answered all of my questions. I was enrolled and received my first appointment within a couple of weeks. I visited the Tucson location for my benefits determination appts, but I am happy to see that there are great people here in the SV area trying to provide quality service for veterans for their earned benefits. read more

Simply the worst VA Clinic available. If you need care, they actually tell you to go to the Tucson VA Emergence Room when a Vet is in pain (year, drive 180 miles in pain. good one SVOC). They prescribe medication until something works or the Vet doesn't go in anymore out of frustration. They seldom if ever return phone calls. Their patient advocate is useless to resolve issues. About the only thing they offer that is average in rating is their facility to located centrally in Sierra Vista AZ. read more

I started being seen at the SVCBOC in 2007 after my veteran wife passed away from the VA NOT diagnosing her cancer early enough to be saved, despite her having survived cancer in the military. My first appointment set the tone for the next 8 years of 'care' at the SVCBOC. In the nine years I've been seen at the clinic I've had nine care givers, interjected with dr. hendrickson acting a fool and talking nonsense and lies. He had a death hold on the clinic and all inhabitants. There have been at least two doctors at quit because of him, and it's only been recently that he was replaced with a Nurse Practitioner (NP). Sally Petty, nurse in charge of all CBOC's in the southern arizona health care system, proved to be useless, as is mr. gardner who is head of the tucson va. I have complained so many times, and with so much accuracy that my medical record was flagged in an attempt to discredit me, and despite the efforts of Gifford', Barber' and McSally's to get at the truth, it didn't happen. The VA, specifically mr. j. gardner 'refused' to respond to any one of the three. In the time I've been seen I have suffered health issues related to the only medication they'd prescribe, despite it' availability and my willingness to pay. Now, not one of the NP's I had seen knew anything about my medication, and sailed along ignorant to the dark side. Just recently my NP provider cited a SIX year old lab to say; the results were just fine... Really? I'd have fired a technician of mine that made a claim like that troubleshooting safe for flight electronics system, but I'm only a human, not a high dollar aircraft. We vets are NOT treated well, nor are we treated. The best thing for the SVCBOC is to close, and allow veterans to spend VA dollars to see 'real' doctors and health care providers. read more

Horrible.. Been calling past 3 days no one will set up an appt for me. Now I know what Veterans are going through trying to get healthcare done. It's sad honestly, if you don't like working and helping Veterans then please quit so those who do can actually work and help us out. Honestly kinda fed up with the VA lately going on 2 yrs since I had to get out and still nothing from them as well as lying stating they've tried calling when it shows no missed calls.. Worst ever reception. It was my first visit and missed the placard indicating which line to get into (there was no line incidentally). I went up to the station where a woman was sitting and she said, in a most rude tone, "I'm working on a patient's records," and told me to go get in line. I asked what line and she snapped back, "Im working on a patient's records!" I replied back that I'd heard her the first time, but didn't see a line anyplace. At that time I realized there was a plackard a few feet from her station at which time I stood till she called me to come forward. There was no greeting, no polite direction to the placard, no indication I was even welcome into the facility. Needless to say, it went all downhill from there. My husband is a Vet and so am I. I'll never step foot in that facility for any medical care. No wonder the VA here in SV has such a crappy reputation. Tucson VA on the other hand is a 5-Star and treats their patients with dignity, respect, kindness and consideration. read more
