giving this store a 3 star review because I'm 50/50 with this business. usually I LOVE this thrift store, they have amazing prices, they have such good stuff and good finds and the IN STORE employees are such ANGELS. Now, if you want to get your stuff picked up for donations expect SH*T service, they gave us a time slot for 8:45 am - 9:45 am we were HOME until 12:15 (then we had a errand we had to run at 12:15 so we had to leave). They left us a note, no stress we'll just reschedule until I spoke to a girl named Arlene at dispatching, man I don't know what crawled up her a*s and died but god she was the RUDEST person I've ever spoken to ESPECIALLY coming from a thrift store environment, like girl cmon your job ain't that serious, relax. I hope she doesn't treat everyone like that because that would SUCK coming from an awesome place like DAV. read more

I donate here and shop here. I purchased my almost new Crate and Barrel down stuffed cushioned sofa with chaise here for $125 plus $25 delivery fee. The sofa listed for over $2000 on the C&B website. Things sell fast here so you have to come often and buy when you see it because it will likely be gone if you don't. This is a resale store with not a lot of window dressing so be prepared to patiently look. There are no dressing rooms with one dedicated mirror area for trying on clothes. Do not expect spotless organization. read more

VERY disorganized and has gone super downhill. It's so messy shopping in there you never know what is on the rack even if it's labeled. Plus the prices seem to increase on cheaply made clothing.The workers are just trying to do their job but how can they in an environment like that? The standards need to be raised; 1 year ago I came with my daughter and had a completely different shopping experience. It was cleaner, organized, and I enjoyed browsing. Last week when I walked in I was replused and scared. I have been donating for over 3 years. I gave up on Goodwill due to their shady practices. They come to your house for free and pick up all your items. The staff is extremely friendly as well as the drivers. I can't wait to shop in person in there store more. Some of the people in the comments say the items are crap. I've donated here for the last 6yrs. Additionally, I've shopped and purchased a few times over those years. As a DAV member, it makes me happy to see a thrift location in "the heart of" Oceanside serving the community. Whether by taking unwanted/unneeded/unused items or reselling them at a fraction of the cost to those who need to save some pennies. AND...the jobs the DAV has created! Where is the downside? I'd rather donate here than drive 30min to the other side of Oceanside. read more

I've been to all the Veterans Thrift Stores in San Diego county, but it was my first time going to this Oceanside location. My favorite from all of the Veteran Thrift Stores is the one in Spring Valley. There's also the Amvets in downtown that's really good, but I don't think they're affiliated. The store is huge in size however super messy inside. There's so much stuff on the floor that you can barely push your cart. There's clothes, shoes, toys etc. all on the floor. It's a tripping hazard for the customers. A lot of their stuff is also dusty, I get that it's secondhand stuff but they could at least do basic dusting or cleaning chores in the store. The store was disorganized with stuff all mixed together. It could really use some TLC inside. read more

I tried to drop off a perfectly good couch. without barely looking at it the receiver just said "can't take it and move on". i was a little shocked with the reception and i also noticed the other worker seemed uncomfortable with the response of his coworker. i am a 20 year veteran and understand how hard it was in the beginning. i would have gladly taken the pieces of furniture i was donating back when i started. i hope DAV just isn't using the title Veteran in their business to attract unsuspecting veterans for a profit and instead i hope they are actually helping the Veterans. overall i was disappointed in the business. would not recommend. read more

I have been coming to this place for years! Recently I've been busy with work and school that I hardly have any time to scavenge through thrift stores for buried treasures (clothes, home decor, fabric, etc). Today, I chose to make a stop by the DAV in search of white fabric for project. Before snooping around in the fabric section, I made my way to the men's section to look around a bit. The top of the racks had scattered miscellaneous objects of all sorts, so I wasn't sure if I was looking at treasure or trash. A few clothing were on the floor, seems as if people just don't care to put things back. Unexpectedly, I found a navy blue jacket with zipper pockets for a great price of $5. The jacket made up for a messy jacket because I was excited. I passed the electronics section where most of the shelves had empty spaces and items did not look well kept. There was separate shelf separate from the walls that contained everything and anything, so it looked like a pile of garbage. I ended up finding white fabric with a decent size, score! That made my visit a lot more easier because I was starting to feel congested from what felt like dust in the air. The place needs some kind of spring cleaning for items that look like they've been on the shelves for ages. A little more organization, maybe labeling off more section for knick-knacks (you'll find those all throughout the store as well). This is the reason why I deducted 2 stars. Prices are still low and if you look hard enough you'll find some buried vintage items, which is awesome. There's also a ton of stuff here, so I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. I went here this morning with my mom and younger sisters and I was very impressed with the size and selection of the place!! The size of the place made social distancing very stress-free. The amount of clothing was quite impressive, and it looks as if there was a good amount of people picking great selections for their Depop/eBay accounts haha :) I didn't personally get anything, although I was very intrigued by multiple long boxes full of old baseball and football cards. If I had had more money on me, I might've gotten them all just to see what I could get for them. My mom really lucked out though! She was able to get an instant slide & negative scanner that scans/uploads old film for $5.99 and the device sells for almost $70 brand new on Amazon. Definitely a good steal! 10/10 would return here. 10/10 would recommend to others. read more

Yelp explicitly stated the store is open till 5:30 p.m., as well as the store hours posted at the door . -We arrived 25 minutes before closing, but one of the workers said they were already closed and refused to let us in. It's a huge thrift store with constantly rotating merchandise. It's fun to stop in here about once a month just to see what they're got. I've gotten great deals on some nice large items and my bf likes looking at the overflowing book section. read more

It is a very so-so kind of place. There is a lot of selection because it is a large store but the prices were absolutely all over the place. Some dresses were $5-8 and some were 10-18, all in the same rack and some expensive ones were lower quality than cheaper ones! There was also a lot of cheap, fast fashion (SHEIN) items that were listed for way too much. Kind of hectic inside, loud and busy. I think if there was some music playing, the prices were never more than $10 and a little more uniform, it would be a place I would come back to. I do like that it supports Veterans, and the staff was amazing and kind. No complaints there! Everything was also organized and relatively clean and orderly. read more

Drove up the 5 from La Costs and hit some accident traffic around the Outlets. I arrived at DAV drop off as my Apple Watch turned from 1:00 to 1:01 and they said they were jo longer accepting donations for the day to come back another day. I explained there was an accident and the manager woman would not budge. All I had to donate was 2 medium sized pet carriers and a set of golf clubs in a golf bag - that's it! She would not take it and just kept saying, "sorry we are closed". I was so P***** O**! Can't people go out of their way by ONE MINUTE for someone who was just trying to donate some useful things in good condition so they can raise some money for disabled veterans like myself. I really want to like this thrift store. I live nearby and I am a huge thrifter. I think this company cherry picks through their items and sells the better stuff to other thrift stores. I've seen DAV trucks at other thrift stores. Almost every time I go it's just garbage. Broken stuff and things nobody really wants, like half used tea light candles for 50 cents each. Their prices are ridiculous on stuff that you actually really might want. I saw an 80s beaded dress and an 80s beat up leather skirt both priced at $50. WTF?! This is a thrift store, not Ebay. They get this stuff for free and are supposedly non-profit. They are greedy. I only came here today because my friend from out of town wanted to. And we both walked out empty handed. I'd rather go to Goodwill and that's saying something. read more

I was on a long distance bike ride when I thought I would stop in an check this location out. After locking my bike outside to a post I entered the store. My partner also loves to pick thrift stores so I snapped some pics inside to send to him of the stores layouts. I thought this was innocent enough when II was confronted by a very in your face supervisor. These are more like "fixers" than supervisors. I explained that I was just sending pictures to my partner so that he might want to shop there too. She said I would have to leave the store immediately or she would call the police?? What??? I know they don't want gay men in the military but a veterans thrift store?? Really?? I believe this was just an excuse to get me out of the store. Management is horrid and the dust causes sickness. There is a barter policy which is rediculous and people take advantage of it. I have seen a huge turnover and it's sad since the name inspires people to donate yet the workers aren't treated well under bad conditions. That's not right! read more

I have shopped at DAV stores for a very long time. Unfortunately this one in particular has really gone downhill. Not only are they overpriced but they changed the store layout which does not make for easy shopping. I like to support the veterans but I will find another way to do it. The most disappointing thing is that I have encountered many homeless people shopping who do not have a lot of money and cannot afford the prices. I am hoping they get back on track. read more

Didn't appreciate the attitude in the donations section on 9/23. The man with the brown hair was sarcastic and rude throughout the entire exchange, although I donated several hundred dollars worth of clothing and equipment. As I drove away I heard a sexist remark being exchanged. As a woman I felt unsafe in this space. I will be donating to Goodwill in the future. read more

Thrift shopping today and popped into this place on a whim. After a day of unorganized creepy thrift stores this was a perfect example of an HUGE organized store. Didn't buy anything as I think I'm more in a "consignment" spot of my life now, but I liked the size and organization of the store. With some dedication I'm sure you could find some nice items. This establishment is poorly run and managed. I had a couch to donate. Realizing that used furniture is Ifee I went to DAV the day before to inquire. I took a current picture. Upon arrival the clerks were unable to get a manager to come up and talk with me. After 20 minutes waiting they said walk around back of the building to find one. I did this and spoke to a nice young woman who identified as a manager. Upon discussion and viewing the photo she said they would be happy to accept the couch. I am handicapped have difficulty walking and lifting. I made sure this was understood. I inquired if she would be present today when we loaded and took the couch. It was raining lightly. We arrived at the drop off area and a guy came up and looked said they would not avcep it. I asked for the manager. She came out talked with him and then told me no? they would not accept it. I asked why she refused our pre arranged deal. She said a tiny tear in the material on the back of the couch was unacceptable. I was shocked and dismayed. I will never recommend DAV TO anyone read more

Even though I've been there a million times, I passed it by accident today because the parking lot looks like a crappy used car lot that targets marines. SHOPPING: This is a great place to check out ... Yes, the DAV sometimes smells yucky, but it's also cheap and you already know that you're going to wash whatever you buy anyway so WHO CARES? I'm on the fence! Can't get off on either side.. perhaps I need to just keep going back until I've figured it out. I've been here several times before over the past few years and have always felt just "eh" about the place. Yes, it's stinky. Kind of like Goodwill but stinkier (although it houses a lot more stuff than your neighborhood Goodwill). I used to live for thrift stores but now I just feel rude because I can't shop like a serious person, I just get a kick out of everything in there! Ps, I can't believe I bought used shoes from there and wore them in high school.. gag. Today I went on a hunt for everything Disney. I found a Chip & Dale bedazzled t-shirt, Mickey & Minnie denim overalls (yes.. it's true. I almost couldn't put them down), a large purple Bolt shirt, a puke green glitter Tinkerbell tank top... among other various giggle-worthy options. I was with a couple of friends too, and we did all we could to contain ourselves around the serious shoppers while pointing out our favorite pieces of clothing. A lot of things just seemed way too overpriced. A see-through, loose knit, floor-length dress made of barely any material for $15. An ugly v-neck floral printed blouse for $8. A men's jacket for $50. Meh. I DID find some high-waisted ladies pants in Mardi Gras purple last Halloween for my husband to wear as the Joker, which were an absolute hit (still, $15). I browsed and pawed through the racks until we decided it was time to go, using copious amounts of hand sanitizer on the way out the door. Maybe next time I'll score, D.A.V... read more

Best place to go if you're trying to save money they have clothes for work fun funky clothes and you can even find material. I was looking for material just to make my own curtains and I bought a bunch of stuff for my camper. Great prices and they always have percent off tag sales I believe it goes by the color and if you're a senior you get a discount they also have furniture which is a plus. I bought a set of chairs from there when I first moved out here and I had no furniture save me a lot of money and I still have the chairs now 3 1/2 years later!! Go you have to spend at least half a day there, there's tons to look at!! Unless you have an agenda and you know exactly what you're looking for you can quickly go through the racks and be out of there. Great people work there too very helpful. read more

We were moving, and all furniture was out except a China cabinet and miscellaneous items for donation. DAV made arrangements to pick up items and was on time for the scheduled pickup. The two men were professional and performed the job in a timely manner. I recommend donating to DAV Veteran's Thrift Store! They are one of few that will pick up inside your home. read more

I seem to end up here fairly often when I'm cruising O'side on a Sunday, glad they're open. Selection is fair, though for a large store I'd think there would be more interesting stuff. Haven't had much luck with electronics, but they seem to get a lot of military cast-offs. Prices can be high on some items, usually they're reasonable. read more
