Soooo overpriced! All the clothes, bags and shoes are so outdated like 5-10 years ago collections for the price more higher then the same brands in let say Nordstrom rack! This review is from a buyer's view point. Double Take isn't located on a busy street so you may have to intentionally look for this place. I strolled through Double Take on a Sunday afternoon and was greeted warmly. I'm not sure who their target audience is geared towards as I saw items for women of all ages, some items more dated than others. However, if you take the time to look, you can find some good stuff for reasonable prices. I tried on an American Rag shirt that I really liked, but it didn't work out. Fitting rooms are spacious and clean. The lady mentioned that there's an upstairs, which is where they house all the clearance items, all 50% off. I gave it a shot upstairs and scored a really nice condition Victoria Secret PINK sweatshirt for $5! Overall, I had a great experience as a shopper here, and will come again when I'm in the area. read more

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've worked four blocks away from this place for over 10 years and have never been here before. My loss. The place is an amazing gem with high-end used clothing and accessories. Heck even new clothing with the tags still on it. The section down below is sorted by size then color, except for the new arrivals rack. Then when you go upstairs everything that is up there has already been marked down and then is half off of that!!! It was pretty amazing to see designer clothing that was selling for five or six bucks. The gal that was working there I forgot to check her name, was very helpful she answered all my questions, she started a dressing room for me, she was just extremely helpful and friendly to all the patrons that were in the store. Having a dressing room is huge because so many thrift shoppes and resale shops do not have them. They had some shoes but not a lot they had some really nice purses and bags, I bought a really cute Roxy bag for 15 bucks. I spent about an hour in there, and I came away with nice blouses for work, the Roxy bag, a super cute scarf and a new appreciation for a really really cool local business that I've been passing by for years without stopping. I highly recommend, if you are in Carlsbad, and you are like me and refuse to pay retail prices for clothes you really need to check this place out. BEWARE! Do not take your clothes for consignment to Double Take. My experience: After clothes were selected by them (some designers with tags) and after a reasonable time had gone by (about 2 months) I called at least 3 times the 2931 Roosevelt number stated on the Consignment Agreement (760-434-0101) to know the status of my consignments, during their business hours. There was no answer nor answering service provided. Also went in person and was told that the owner was not there and that I needed to call the number listed on my agreement. Called again and still no answer. For the second time went in person, and was told that 60 days had gone by and that as per "agreement", the items not sold were donated to Charity. When I asked the sales person the Charity in question, she did not know. Somewhere in Encinitas, she said. Must add that the "Consignment Agreement" states: "Tickets are posted daily and you may call to check your account status anytime". Learn from my experience.....Do not take items to Double Take for consignment! read more

This a great little thrift shop. Many of my cutest and trendiest clothes are from here. At a fraction of the original designer price! Been shopping here for years. Ya it could use an update; fresh flooring and paint and reorganization of the racks etc would make it really nice aesthetically. But then again the prices might go up if they remodeled! So I'm appreciative of it as is. The negative reviews on here are absolutely biased and someone obviously has a vendetta. I love Hailey. I have been coming to Double Take since my little daughter was 1 month old! She is almost 6! I particularly enjoy dealing and interacting with Haley, whom has been the owner for some time now! ;) she is cute, and always greets everyone at the door, which to me, goes a long way. Also, I usually stop in every 3-4 months and she remembers me, and remembers her Customers;) that always makes you feel good, right?. Also, it's nice to see that she knows a lot about brands, and designers... very knowledgeable. They sell Top Shop, LV, Cloth and Stone, LU LU Lemon, Steve madden, all the trendy yet contemporary clothing us fashionistas enjoy for a low cost! She is also very great to talk to. Cute little shop, very nice and pleasant people running it (and working there, too). I did not have a great experience as a seller, though. When you drop off the things you want to sell, you're not given any kind of receipt. You simply leave everything and call a few days later to find out what things they wish to keep and resell and what things need to be retrieved. They kept all my items and sold about 75% of them, which was great. At the end of the consignment period, though, I went to collect my check and the items that didn't sell and found that two dresses had gone missing. They hadn't sold, but they were no longer in the shop. I spent about 30 minutes trying to find them, and then the young woman working that day repeated my search. Gone. They also lost the box and travel bag for my new/never worn $400 Pliner heels. Which means I'll take a huge hit when I do sell them because now I can't sell them as New In Box. I'm sad to say I won't be comfortable consigning there again. For what it's worth, there's another story similar to mine in the filtered reviews. Unfortunately, I suggest thinking twice before consigning high-value items at DT. read more

I am and have been for years a consigner and a shop-a-holic. Double take is always the first place I go to. They always take the majority of my things and I always find great items to take back home. The staff is amazing. I see the rude people there they have to deal with. People dont understand the consigning process anymore. It used to be lucrative and not many people knew about it. Now with everyone in the world trying to get money for their old clothes of course all the stores have to be picky. Ive seen the girls here get yelled at and put down for no reason. I back them 100%, always with smiles on their faces even when the customer is just ridiculous. Always a treasure trove. Thanks for all the business double take!!! This is my favorite second hand clothing store in ALL of San Diego! Every time I go there I find so many cute items for work and casual pieces and get such an amazing deal on quality clothing. I live downtown and always plan a trip to double take in whenever I head to north county. I love the Carlsbad store the most! FYI this one of the few second hand stores left that is NOT geared towards hipsters, it's beautiful classic clothing for adults and not for those looking for the newest trend. I have been buying and selling clothing with Double Take for a few years. Just recently I stopped in to consign. I had 3 bags of decent clothing-some designers jeans like DKNY. I called today, interested in finding out what they were keeping and was told ONE pair of jeans. I was shocked! Im an under the age of 35 and maybe they are looking for an older, more refind look for their store however, I do not find anything worth buying and will not do so in the furture. I have been to all three stores. The one in Carlsbad is by far the worst. First of all, I arrive @ 11am and two women are waiting for it to open. One had made an appt at that time to consign some of her stuff. We waited and waited and waited, then we all left an hour later. The business owner of the salon next door said opening late was very common. I went to a few other stores then came back around and it was open. Gabby, the sales woman, said she wasn't feeling well. Hmmmmm, likely story. She seemed fine! The clothes inside are kinda gross, like, the Gap, and Walmart. They seemed worn out and outdated. --The Encinitas store was much better. --The Solana Beach store was the best. I managed to find brand new Eileen Fisher clothes for really cheap, like a $298 dress for $65. The tags were still on. That's a steal. The girls working here are really great too. This is a great store! I was surprised at how many clothes they had! They even have a 50% off loft where you can get clothes for half off the marked down price! And some of those marked down prices were only 12 bucks! So a pair of jeans for 6 dollars? That's a steal for sure! I can't remember the name of the lady who helped me, but she was super friendly and nice. They also have a section with clothes that are brand new and not worn. But most of the clothes are used, but in great condition! I found 3 tops and a pair of pants for less than 50 bucks. Plenty of accessories and shoes to choose from as well. The store is real cute. I am from the valley and I visit carlsbad twice a month to visit my parents ( with my darling baby) my dad pushes my LO around as my mom and I hit up the good finds ;) and oh my goodness this place is so COOL! I Always end up finding a few things I love. Last month I got a white ( brand new) old navy Jean jacket for like 12 bucks! Been looking all over for one and found it here! This place is a little Jem. When it comes to the high end denim that sells for hundreds of dollars at Neimans or online, I can count on Double Take to have those jeans already distressed and broken in, the way I like them! Went to the Double Take Carlsbad location for the first time yesterday to sell a couple items (never worn coat, designer jeans, and a pair of shoes) - it was fast and simple! I feel terrible that I didn't get the ladies name but she helped me out greatly since I am moving out of the country in a few weeks. She also took a bunch of art supplies off of my hands and is donating it to Carlsbad High for me, very sweet of her! With all the packing and running around I've been doing it tremendously helped to have one less stop. I didn't take a look at the items in the shop (for obvious reasons - moving out of the country) but if Double Take only takes items like mine then they are in perfect condition and I recommend this shop for great deals! read more

I love everything about this shop! I buy/sell clothing here and I feel the prices I pay and the payments I receive are very fair. The staff are always kind and helpful and they even have a 50% off section upstairs! The owner is really good about keeping the selection fresh with new items every week and I think any woman of any age should have no problem finding something that fits their style here! I am in at least 3 times a month and it is a rare occasion when I walk out empty handed. I find a gem nearly every time I am in! I love to vintage shop...my daughter turned me on to it and it's almost the only way for me to shop! I love the finds and deals....gently used clothing/shoes/accessories for ¼ the price of new....sometimes I find new with tags! I like Double Take...I can ALWAYS find something for myself, and usually in under 30 mins. Today was no different....found a cute pair of skinny polka dot jeans in a 7...AMAYZING fit and sooooo darn cute...AND only $6! BETTER!!! The one dark haired gal that was working wasn't very friendly nor helpful...but I didn't need help luckily. The Hudson, True Religion, 7 for Mankind, designer jeans were all 50% off the RED ticket markdown price...that's the way to go if you are into designer. Me, not so much...just cute fit and look. I can make it look designer with a good top and shoes! But the designer jeans were only around $15 after the 50% off. Still great deal, and they weren't all size 0's or 14's. From the previous reviews, I don't think I would consign my clothes here. There were a TON of bags of clothing waiting to be gone through....HUGE bags...maybe 20? So they are definitely behind or overwhelmed and I wouldn't want to chance them losing my stuff. I sell mine in Encinitas vintage stores, where they have a better check in process and probably a higher take in clothes they choose to sell. Nevertheless, this one is a good one to check out. A little more digging might be necessary, but maybe it's due to time of year. read more

I've spent quite a bit of money here over the years. Sadly, it's all come to an end. I never had a bad experience until I decided to consign my most recent set of designer clothes and shoes. The worst of this experience was when I finally encountered the owner. I believe she stated her name was Haley (?). She had the worst attitude and was very rude during my last visit. It's truly unfortunate, prior to meeting Haley I always had decent customer service. She is definitely not the most customer friendly. Interesting that I am not the only one that seems to feel like I got shamed with regard to items I consigned. Like Elise D., and other Yelper's who's reviews have seemed mysteriously drifted, I also had a terrible experience as a seller. It's true that when you drop items off to sell, you're not given any kind of receipt. You have to leave your goods and "trust' that they will later provide you with an honest itemization of what was sold and at the exact amount. T here is a very vague sign in sheet that is left at the back counter asking if you would like to have your clothes donated in the event they do not choose to keep/sell them. I VERY clearly indicated (and with extra side notes) that I did not want my most recent good donated. I indicated that I would pick them up. They kept most of my items (Coach handbag, Prom/Ballroom gowns, etc) and sold about 50% of them, which was great. I made about $12-$20 from each item. Pocket change, but I'm not complaining. Thereafter, things went way downhill. Again, exactly like Elise D., at the end of the consignment period, I drove down to to collect a check for the goods that sold and also pick up the items that didn't sell. One of my beautiful designer gowns had gone missing. I was told that it had not sold, but they were no longer in the shop. I spent what seemed like close to one hour both upstairs and down trying to my gown, Haley also did a quick search. It was GONE. I had a really bad feeling in the pit of may stomach. Something tells me one of those workers kept my beautiful gown. It was pretty spectacular. I was told that I could try to contact TERI, where they donate their clothes. Guess what folks, TERI is in Oceanside off the 76. Being the thorough person I am, I decided to check for myself. LIES LIES LIES. There was no recollection of any gown meeting the description of my gown. You couldn't miss it, it sparkled all over...gorgeous. I may have considered giving this place another try, but Haley was extremely combative and outright rude to me. Never argue or become hostile with a customer Ms. Haley. After all, your customers are what keep you in business. Further, I recommend to revising your consignment sign-in sheet. It is very vague and leads your customers to believe we really do have an opportunity to pick up any articles you do not want to sell prior to you "donating" them. That is bad business. I'm sad to say I won't be consigning there again. I love supporting local businesses, and as such have recommended (in previous years) this shop to others. I can no longer do so. I wish I would have taken some of the other reviews seriously when they stated they had items go "missing" from Double Take. I thought to myself, "no way, this couldn't possibly happen to me". I could just kick myself now because it most certainly did. Beware folks, take time to read the reviews about consigning any couture/higher end articles here. Proceed with caution. read more

My mom is actually the one who turned me on to Double Take. There are two locations, this one and one on Encinitas Blvd, and she frequents both. I can't say I've ever sold anything to them, but I've purchased plenty of items. I wouldn't say it's a great place for trendy clothes, but it's great for work wear. I've bought suits, tops, skirts from Banana Republic, etc. They also have purses and shoes and the Carlsbad location has a half off section in their upstairs loft area. They're fairly picky about what they sell, so you're unlikely to find items that are torn or stained. I'm about to begin a new career, so I'll definitely stop by to build up my wardrobe. read more

They gave me a ridiculously low price for my clothes and lost several items and didn't pay for them. Another shady store that advertises a sale when nothing is actually on sale. The sign outside said items on the upstairs racks are 50% off, yet the shirt I found upstairs was charged at full price. I shop for a living and I see this literally all the time. It's so frustrating how many businesses like this one are so sloppy that they cannot keep their racks organized and also so ignorant of the concept of customer service that they refuse to honor an advertised price. I understand running a store is hard. But it's also hard to be a customer and realize no one really values your business. In the end I was a fool and completed the purchase at full price. I had shopped at this store every couple months and really liked the selection. I even brought in some clothes to sell. I'm always trying to purge items and earn a little money in the process so, I brought in 3 purses to sell. 2 were Coach the other a no name. The girl behind the counter took in the items and asked if I wanted to sell or consign. I told her sell. She said they were busy and could I come back in a couple days to see what they would give me. I thought that was reasonable and came back a couple days later. When I returned the lady brought the bag that I brought the purses in with one purse left inside. She told me that they didn't want to buy that bag. She said we can give you $20.00 for the other two bags. I said $20.00 wasn't fare and I will keep them then . She said they were already put on the floor. I explained to her that I was coming back at this time to see what they would give me for the purses, thAt I had not yet agreed to sell. I looked up in the shelves and saw one of the purses there but, the other purse was already gone. I couldn't believe how I was cheated I took the 20.00 dollars and just thought I will never give this place business. I also believe in Karma. This all happened a couple years ago, and I struggled back and forth with making a complaint back then. I was honestly humiliated and so embarrassed. I didn't cover my ass when I left the purses there in the first place. I didn't even want to tell my husband what happened. There was no proof, no contract, nothing. Even though I'm not much into the coach bags ( one was a gift , the other my late Mom's) I knew they had value. The bag I got after my Mom passed was a patchwork coach purse selling between $400.00-$500.00 retail . The other I'm not sure, but it was a small basic black and grey logo purse. So, I write this today to make people aware. If your selling something , know it has value for these companies or even untrustworthy people/ employees and I guess in this case, if they are too busy to look at the items in front of you or while you shop. Good customer$ should be your number ONE priority. I shopped here and spent a good amount of money in this store, weekly. I never once had any problems with anyone, until now!!! "I thought" this store was different, but not anymore. I was told I couldn't come back to this store anymore because I had an accident and fell very hard at the Solana Beach store due to a huge hole in their floor that I literally fell backward and then to top it off the manager stood there & just looked at me and didn't say nothing, even after she saw me fall! So, now because they were neglegent to their customers and kept an unsafe enviroement I'm the threat. Since all this has gone down and they've yet to have fixed this probem my update is I did the correct thing & contacted the CITY to file a complaint against these people who fail to respect or care for anyone if they hurt themselves on their property. So apparently the Solana Beach store contacted Haily (owner of Carlsbad) who seems to feel they need to "stick together" and not let me( a perfectly good person in their stores anymore all because of a FALL. Scary, but true & something everyone has a right to know about. Shugs, In all honesty why on earth would I want to go back to a place that doesn't have any business decorum, zero respect, zero empathy for their customers & a major lack of business brillance apparently because all my friends who used to go there that referred me won't be going there anymore because of this, and I wouldn't suggest you do either. I do have to say this though. This is by far the most amuzing yet disturbing group of owners I've yet to see out of the many years I've shopped in high end consignment stores, . I've been selling clothes here at Double Take for about 3 years and every time I drop off stuff, I find a pair of boots/shoes that are brand new and for a fraction of the original price. I just found a brand new pair of gorgeous, brown leather Anne Klein slingback heels for $25 that regularly sell for $90. Definitely worth a look. Also check out their other locations. read more
