We had to put down our sweet lab, Bessie, today. It was a very sad day made a bit easier by Dr Ferguson and her staff. They allowed us some time before and after the quick, gentle, procedure with our long time family pet. I will be picking up her paw prints next week. Bessie was a long time patient and boarder at VMC. They always took good care of her, and her tail always wagged when she visited their office. I bring my guinea pigs here and Dr. Minnick is amazing. She is very compassionate and knowledgeable. Dr. Minnick is the only vet here that sees guinea pigs, but she is typically available same day or next day, which is vital for some guinea pig sicknesses. I did decide to have one of my guinea pigs put to sleep with Dr. Minnick as well and the whole process was dealt with professionally and compassionately by the whole staff. read more

Sharing a caution for local pet owners: At Veterinary Medical Center on 8750 Nesbit Ferry Rd, Alpharetta, my pet experienced a serious lack of timely intervention for a diabetic eye emergency. Despite clear symptoms and repeated visits, necessary specialist referral and proper pressure checks were delayed, leading to permanent loss of an eye. Multiple staff members reassured "surgery would be done when needed," which was not enough. Please stay vigilant--if your gut says something's wrong, question the care or get a second opinion. read more

For over 20 years, this has been a place of comfort and joy, a peace of mind, a loving place to bring my dogs, and some of the roughest times to say goodbye to one of my dogs, and have the workers there understand, not that they had to cry with me, but to feel my emotions, but that's who they were 15 years ago. I may get nervous when I bring a dog in this morning, nervous and scared, but I know I'm bringing them to a place that has great doctors and great people. I believe healthcare is so important for people, I believe in taking care of your dog the same way you try to take care of yourself, even though they can't tell you exactly what is wrong, you can always look in their eyes and see their love and see their pain. We were visiting from out of town while our dog Percy started having these lesions all over his skin one night. I called Veterinary Medical Center right when they opened at 6:30am and they were extremely helpful offering us a 7:30am appointment the same day. When we got there, we were immediately taken back to an exam room and worked with the most compassionate vet and vet tech. Percy was prescribed antibiotics, steroids, and a shampoo for his skin infection. The whole process only took 25 minutes total, even with filling out new patient info. Everyone on staff was so caring and compassionate during this stressful situation when Percy was dealing with this while we were far from home and normal vet. The price was reasonable too. Have (had) an almost 15 year old dog-my rock. , it was time for him to "cross the rainbow bridge", So I brought him in on a Saturday around 10?11?am (he let me know it was time....don't think he would have lasted another day). I was understandably heartbroken, I had even emailed previously asking about pricing for this 'procedure, as I am on a fixed income. Imagine my....disgust? horror? when the front desk person tells me there is a 42.50$ "walk in fee" on top of the normal charges. My response was "I know I should have called but my mind was on other things"). That was on top of the other fees (which I totally get). They later told me they were waiving the fee but...this STILL sticks in my craw (they did mail me a condolence card, 2 weeks later). I can understand someone just walking in a busy Saturday but this.....well, in my mind, a 'normal situation" (they even know my dogs by name). I will rethink where I take my other dog in the future.... read more

It pains me to write this review but I have to share my experience and warn others of what happened to me and my dog. I brought my 5 1/2 yr old dog in for TPLO knee surgery about 8 weeks ago. When I picked her up 48 hours post-op, I was informed by the tech who put her in my car that Daisy was burned during surgery. He said the warming blanket used in surgery caused the 3-inch wound on her belly. **Please google "dog burns in surgery"- everybody should know that blanket burns happen far too often. Pets die this way! The office never informed me, nor treated the burn while she was there. How does this not get noticed?? When I spoke to the vet she seemed to suggest Daisy had a prior skin infection. After I sent photos of the wound, they acknowledged it happened. Since I was 40 miles away, they provided medication and made 2 house calls. For 6 weeks I treated it daily. My poor dog. The scar is big, ugly and the hair will not fully grow back. Dr. Joe has denied negligence, saying it was "a complication from the surgery". WTF? When I ask for a discount on the $2500+ surgery, he got very loud, saying "no way" and egged me to sue him. It's not in my nature, but I believe in karma. Other issues I noticed as a first-time client was: the office smells of urine and is dirty, and they are understaffed. My initial consult was over an hour late! Dr. Joe even smacked Daisy in the face with a rolled paper when she growled at him (WTF again). He is oblivious to basic animal behavior. All the issues we've experienced has overshadowed the excellent surgery actually performed. Shame. read more

It's never fun when you have an emergency on your hands, but thankfully there are places like these that are open on Sundays. If you are a pet owner, I'm sure you feel like I do, and value your pet as one of your family members. I have a 6 year old rescue dog, and he has become very dear to me. Woke up Sunday morning without incidence, but when we came back from the run, he was whimpering and limping according to my bf. I was a few steps behind him, but I noticed he was not acting like himself. Finally found a vet that opened at 1pm, but when he started whimpering without even moving, I decided I was going elsewhere and anywhere that was open now. I called first to see if I needed an appointment, and the lady on the phone was very kind and could see how distressed I was. She said she would fit him in. So we rushed over there, and got back into a room very quickly. My only less-than-great experience was with the veterinarian himself. I didn't care for him, or how blase he was about everything. He also was all over the place as far as diagnoses, and thankfully I'm in the medical field and could follow, but a layman isn't going to know immediately what spondylosis is, and again, based on symptoms, I couldn't figure out why that was even in the differential. I also was questioning the number of medications he felt my dog needed at the time. I didn't really understand also why he kept referencing possibly needing a neurologist in the future, and even gave him Gabapentin, but stated his neuro exam was normal when I asked him about it. It all just didn't make sense to me, and I hate that, because otherwise I loved this vet center. My dog thankfully is doing better, and I would say I would come here again. I found out their prices for Cytopoint are better than his normal vet place. But I definitely would not see that particular vet again. And sorry, I was so upset I didn't even take any pictures. read more

I moved to GA 18 months ago. This clinic and DR.s have helped me with so much care and concern, from surgery, a dog bite and regular vet visits. My one Lab had surgery on both her back legs with DR. Ryan Gaston and she is now able to walk, run and play like a dog. The staff from the front to the back are amazing. In addition, today I had a small issue and had to bring my Lab to the vet because she hurt her leg, and when I left, my car would not start. I am beginning to suspect Dr Joe CEO of this business is cruel to animals. (He boasts his name tag of CEO) give me a break! I am another client that had a VERY serious trauma done to their dog under their care for surgery. I am considering suing for malpractice and neglect currently. I had one doctor perform the surgery only to discover a few hours after that this Dr. left the office on personal leave and no one knew when he would be back?!?! Again, like the other client on Yelp where her dog was burned - a mistake happened during my dog's surgery. My dog had to under go 2 surgeries back to back due to their negligence. Please please if I can help someone else not go through what my dog has and you love your dog I wouldn't take mine here!!!! My cat Daisy was adopted from a shelter in December of 2019 at the age of 9. She can be difficult but the staff at VMC has treated her with nothing but caring and kindness. It has taken time for her to adjust as her previous owner died and she was turned in at a shelter. She is finally beginning to blossom and VMC staff has definitely helped! I was already familiar with VMC because my previous cat, Gracie, was cared for by VMC her entire life and always received excellent health care and wonderful grooming for her long hair. She crossed the rainbow bridge back in 2017 at the age of 15. Because of her health issues, I believe she had more time on earth because of the excellent care provided. I highly recommend Veterinary Medical Center for your pet healthcare and grooming. The staff is the best both technically and in the in-house treatment of your pet and you! read more

I have been bringing my 120 lb dog here for a little while now. I have seen Dr Ferguson and Dr Gaston and both are very knowledgeable and comfortable with x-large dogs! I have been happy with the care I have received. The wait time is also reasonable. The reason I give 2 stars is the front office. I have been talking my dog to get medicated baths there weekly and usually I hand him over and they put him in the office area with them until someone who is in the separate kennel building comes to get him. Well the last time he was being dropped off an employee was bringing him around to put in him in the supervised office space to wait for the kennel tech and one of the office employees said "ew no close him in there, he drools" Well first of all your talking about a member of my family so you should probably refrain from saying ew. Second if your scared of drool maybe you are in the wrong profession. The area she asked the employee to shut him in is a little room and no one was in it. This rubbed me the wrong way and I felt uneasy leaving him after this experience, but I did anyways. After picking him back up the kennel techs seemed to have done a good job as always but when I got him out of the car at my house I noticed a gash on his side. I don't know how this happened, but I feel like someone should have noticed and reported it to me. read more

How do you write a Yelp review that makes up for the heartbreak of a vet neglecting and killing your 5 year old shih tzu. We left our puppy in the hands of Dr Gaston. When we got her back she was very ill. She was a healthy, vivacious dog. When my parents and I picked her up she had an infection we were told she got while in their care. By the time they tried to fix it, it was too late. We had to put her to sleep. There is nothing worse than seeing a formerly energetic puppy depressed and emaciated because she could not digest her food. What's worse is watching your mother sob as she realized she was going to have to let her dog go. In talking to other pet owners who had a similar experiences with this vet, I was shocked at the lack of accountability from a person we entrust with our pets. What's worse is they expected us to pay for their mistake. Thankfully my parents had a empathetic lawyer who immediately helped them. If Dr. Gaston had shown a modicum of remorse I would not be writing this. However, he did not and I would hate to see someone go through the pain my parents went through with their vibrant, animated, 5 year old puppy. read more

With the pandemic I really like the fact that someone comes to your car, very nicely takes your pet inside. Calls to pay the bill. Very well handled & professional! Brings your pet to you safe & sound. The interior is a bit of a hoot- its like a 1983 time warp- NOTHING has been updated....I find it amusing- what they ARE putting the money into is what COUNTS. The PEOPLE. There is always enough staff, never a wait, they are ready for you when you get there (other vets would have me sitting in a back room forever with antsy dogs. Very kind and gentle, Loved the huge pittie behind the desk with stitches on his back...wanting to give love and get kisses. The reason? A chihuahua attacked him... awww... We currently pass about 10 vet offices to get to Veterinary Medical Center and would travel states to have Dr Joe care for my fur babies. He is knowledgeable, caring and friendly. In the 20+ years, we've not experienced one problem with staff or care. The office is not fancy, but it is always very clean. What the office lacks in grandeur, it makes up for in the staff. I called and asked about having a pet I recently inherited vaccinated. They said that if it is just a rabies shot that a walk-in is fine and and appointment is not necessary. So this morning I did walk-in with my dog. He is a dachshund so it's not like he would be that hard to handle or take up too much time. I figured we would be in and out in a half-hour max. That seemed reasonable. We went in and were taken to a room and asked to fill out the usual new patient paper. I filled out the paper and waited. And waited... and waited..... annnnd waited. Nearly an hour passed by. All the while I hear people on the other side of the door coming and going. My kids were restless, the dog was restless, I was sick of waiting. I went to the front to ask if anyone was going to see us and they had apparently forgotten all about us. However the sweet lady at the desk was very sincerely apologetic. She truly seemed legitimately and genuinely sorry about the long wait we incurred in the patient room. I appreciated her sincerity. The wait was much more forgivable that what else happened in there though. In the patient room there is a computer which is used to pull up patient records. The screen was opened to another person's personal information. Their name, address, telephone number, email and all details about their pet were on that screen. While I am an honest person not everyone is. I would hate to think anyone would be in there able to so easily access all of my information while they were waiting to be seen. Just think, I was in there for an hour with this computer wide open to someone's personal info. That is plenty of time to browse the records and get all kinds of info. This was a very careless move on the part of this establishment. I certainly would now wonder if my info would ever be laid out in full view of who ever may be nearby. Definitely not a very comforting thought. Aside from the wait and the compromising personal information of their clients, they were very nice people in this veterinary clinic. I am hoping this experience was just some isolated and rare occurrence. I haven't decided if ai want to keep using them or if I want to find another vet. read more

The vets help me with every concern and go above and beyond to provide care. For fearful pets, they even offer "happy vet visits" where you just bring your dog for a treat so they get more comfortable. I will never take my pup anywhere else! read more

The fact they are open for a full day on the weekends is great for someone like myself who works quite a bit during the week. Been going to this clinic for a while and it's always for small issues with my cat. Different vets at this location have examined Simba on few occasions and have been sensitive and informative to say the least until my cat was seen by a "DR RYAN GASTON", a mistake. Simba started limbing a couple of days ago; nothing dramatic though & no pain either. So DR Ryan physically examined her, checked her temperature and movements, felt & pulled her legs and everything checked out. He asked to take an x-ray not giving me another option. So to make a long story short, $362 and 24 hours later my cat is still limping with no diagnosis. He is guessing that this could be a case of soft tissue inflammation so he prescribed a pain medicine; the cat is not even in pain, pain was never a concern. I do not mind spending the money on Simba if I was to get some answers. We left the clinic not knowing just hoping for the best. The 2 stars are because the front desk and staff are very professional. I would probably still go there but not to see Ryan Gaston. read more

The place is very easy to find and the front office staff was very friendly. The clinic smelled clean and was very tidy. My golden and Himalayan have both been patients here for a few years, but my most recent trip with my golden will be my last. I was infuriated when I brought my golden in for a nail trim and gland expression and they sent a kennel employee up to the room as they were apparently short on veterinary techs. He did a fine job on the toe nails (but my golden is great for it) --he struggled with the glands, and my dog wasn't even moving..not even a little. He's been in pain since the expression. For $36.00 I feel that we should have seen a veterinary technician. This is unfortunate as I love Dr. Gaston--but this trip was traumatic. read more

The people here are very nice and it's always very clean. They always offer me a drink when we come into the exam room and there's never a long wait. They're very sweet with my dog Oreo and he doesn't even care when he gets shots because he's getting attention and peanut butter. My only big complaint, and the reason I didn't give five stars, is that this building is NOT wheelchair accessible. There are a total of two steps to get in the building (a curb without a ramp and a step at the door). As far as I can see there is no alternative accessible entrance. If they made an effort to make the building wheelchair accessible then this place would be absolutely perfect. I'm not in a wheelchair but there are plenty of people who are and this is a big issue. read more

The whole staff are saints! I live in Buckhead and I drove out of my way because my cat needed immediate surgery and they were the only clinic with an opening. We were being turned down left and right by vets saying they didn't have a surgery slot till the following week. Dr. Tigyi and his colleagues have all been taking phenomenal care of my cat. They keep you posted and don't do anything behind your back like I've experienced with other vets. They work with you if you're in a tight spot financially. I'll be 21 tomorrow and they are making the payments for two surgeries plus all the little things involved (meds, fluids, etc) much easier for me to pay off. read more
