We had taken our animals to Cottonwood vet since we moved here in 2020. Last year our cat was…read morediagnosed with lymphoma and we had to put her down. In early February our dog developed a mass on his neck. Dr. Childress at Cottonwood said he had enlarged lymph nodes in his neck, suspected he had lymphoma, and aspirated the mass. The mass contained lymphocytes and lymphoblasts, and Dr. Childress confirmed lymphoma with this testing. He did not send the sample out for staging or do any other tests. Our dog also had no other symptoms. He started our lab on steroids to reduce the size of the lymph nodes to give him comfort and said we likely had a month or 2 with him until he succumbed to the disease. After a few days it dawned on me that no other labs were done initially. I took him back to Cottonwood at by that time he had elevated glucose and concern for pancreatitis. Granted, steroids may have been clouding the picture by this point. I asked for a second opinion so he was seen at Blue Pearl and ultimately diagnosed with diabetes. They saw no evidence for lymphoma or pancreatitis. I had asked Dr. Childress about the possibility of diabetes and asked if he could check his urine and he said the elevated glucose was from steroids. He did not test his urine. By the time he was seen at BP he was in ketosis and probably 3-4 days away from dying. Dr. Childress called me after the initial visit at BP and doubled down on his original diagnosis of lymphoma, disregarded the diabetes diagnosis completely and said "I think more is going on." I haven't been back to Cottonwood since. I established him at VCA Allendale and when I was explaining this history to the VCA vet she had me describe in detail and show her where the neck mass was and she said based on location and description it was likely an enlarged salivary gland and not enlarged nodes so he never should have been started on steroids in the first place. Giving steroids to an undiagnosed diabetic can have fatal consequences. Circle back to our cat also being diagnosed with lymphoma from Dr. Childress last year and now we're questioning if she also didn't have lymphoma since, as best we recall, she did not have enlarged nodes and never had anything aspirated to sample. She was losing weight despite eating, peeing more, and drinking more, all symptoms of undiagnosed diabetes. I recommend going elsewhere for your pets.

Our miniature schnauzer that we rescued in February this year needs grooming…read more We took her to Woof and Wander early April and again yesterday (late June of 2025). Both times scheduling was a breeze via text messages to them. They were able to work her in within a week from the request. They have been professional and took great care of her and listened well to what we asked for. I learned since her previous grooming then my giving her a bath in between about a month ago using the dog shampoo in the house that Tasha has dry skin as I noticed some flaking of dead skin on her coat. I had a dog lotion on hand as well that I started massaging into her coat every few days to help alleviate any discomfort and itching she had. When I brought her in yesterday I conveyed the information to the staff. And asked for a hydrating shampoo for her dry skin. Not only did I pick her up looking adorable and fresh but I received a text from my groomer letting me know they found some blackheads and clogged pores on her body and suggested instead of applying the lotion going forward, to bathe her with a special shampoo in between grooming and they sent me the link to it. I truly appreciated that extra care and attention to my sweet baby girl and ordered it immediately from Amazon. I will continue going to Woof & Wander for our grooming needs and would definitely recommend them! They have very reasonable prices and take great care of my dog. Thank you!

Where do I even start? To say this wasn't a typical vet…read moreexperience, is an understatement! I am, sadly, a typical Doodle owner, so of course my dog is special, and high maintenance, and I am as desperately attached to him as he is to me..... it's a Doodle thing, right? Same day appointment, like that NEVER happens.... they were the kindest, sweetest, and most in-depth and realistic folks I have ever met in the 6o years of dog ownership I have. The staff was friendly, kind, and overall the nicest folks I have ever met in the vetting world! knowledgeable, they offered options and advice, and absolutely treated my GIANT Doodles ears with the concern and love all we Doodle owners hope for. I mean, let's face it, Doodles are typically in one of three phases.... getting an ear infection, having an ear infection, or being treated for..... an ear infection. (They are kinda the cocker spaniels from the 70's, but on steroids in the standard doodle size) My precious baby boy, all 113 pounds of his fluffy high maintenance chicken allergy poodle belly butt, is happy again as we are moving into phase three, treating and healing from an ear infection. These folks are the gold standard of vet care I have always sought. seriously, as a downtown chicago kid, moved to owning a farm and adopting a farm tough and farm sensible attitude about my animals care, these nice folks were everything I had hoped for in a new vet practice! Close, convenient, and cost effective without all the bs most vets charge for something as obvious as an ear infection. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Tonka Truck, the dog, hasn't stopped talking about you all since our visit yesterday! He's told ALL of his friends about the cool new folks he visited, and the relief he got for being seen so quickly!
