Dr. Zamora performed the surgery, and I'm currently in the process of filing a complaint against her with the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. The board will then determine if she violated Rule 573.22, Professional Standard of Care and Section 801.402(6) of the Veterinary Licensing Act. I'm happy to post updates on what the board concludes once the investigation is complete, but for now I will include the full details below and you all can decide for yourself if you feel comfortable taking your own pet to this clinic. This event occurred on 1/25/2024. Although I wanted our local community to know about this as soon as possible, I didn't want to compromise my complaint in anyway and I also needed some time to grieve in order to be able to discuss this from a factual standpoint rather than emotional. Nova went in for surgery at 7:15AM. I received a call at 9:52AM and I spoke with Zamora. Zamora informed me that Nova was out of surgery, and we agreed on a pickup time of 4:00PM. At this point I thought everything was fine and planned to leave my place of work at 3:00PM since it's an hour commute to the clinic. Per the surgery records, my cat started showing signs of lethargy at 11:25AM and was unresponsive at 1:30PM. It says in the notes that no bleeding was observed at the uterine stump, but this is inconsistent with the necropsy report which noted hemorrhage at the uterine stump. I had a missed call from Zamora at 2:59PM. Zamora left a voicemail saying Nova needed a blood transfusion, and that they do not have the blood on hand so I would need to take her to an emergency veterinary hospital. This makes me question why this clinic is performing surgeries without having adequate supplies on hand in the event of an error or complication. I was already on the way to pick her up at this time, due to my commute. I arrived at the clinic and rushed Nova to an emergency veterinary hospital nearby, where she unfortunately passed due to hemorrhagic shock. Per the necropsy report: "The suture was in place, but likely compromised. Often postsurgical activities compromise the sutures leading to hemorrhages from the surgical site." Nova was under Zamora's and the clinic's care during the time any "postsurgical activities" would occur between the time of surgery and the time she was unresponsive. I'm disappointed at how slow this moved. If I was informed sooner, I could have left work earlier to get to Nova so that she could receive a blood transfusion sooner. I brought my healthy cat in with no known medical issues, and when I picked her up, she was bleeding internally to the extent of needing a blood transfusion. She was under Zamora's/the clinic's care between those two points in time. The whole ordeal of having to pick up my cat's lifeless, unresponsive body and rush her to an emergency clinic was traumatizing to say the least. I hope that by sharing my story, others can make a more informed decision when selecting veterinary care for their beloved animals. Things like this simply should not happen. Please do better.

Bubba was a patient at Louetta Veterinary Medical Center for years, with ongoing treatment for chronic constipation. This day, he was seen by an alternate vet. Before she took him to have blood drawn, I warned her he was a stress biter and currently in pain. She didn't ask about vaccines. Soon she returned Bubba and only said bloodwork results would take a few minutes. Later, she explained the results, then casually said Bubba had bit the tech who drew his blood. The tech, not finding a microchip or vaccine record, had called Animal Control without first asking about Bubba's vaccine record! In all years Bubba was a patient at this clinic, rabies shots never was mentioned. At home, I had 12 rabies shot certificates. I discontinued when his health declined as he grew old. Bubba lived only indoors with me, an elderly widow. Seeing me shaken, the vet left the room and another brought pain med for Bubba. He said Animal Control would just call, ask questions and allow home quarantine. I asked to see the bite. The tech showed a single toothpick puncture at base of her thumb that was not bleeding or even bandaged. At night, a uniformed Animal Control officer arrived and asked to see Bubba. He saw no signs of rabies as Bubba calmly purred when the officer pet him. I was allowed home quarantine for 10 days, then a vet had to call Animal Control confirming no signs of rabies. Tragically, Bubba was slowly, painfully dying. I called many other clinics for help. ALL were disgusted at what this clinic did, said their techs expect bites and would never dream of reporting anyone. They agreed to euthanize Bubba, but during quarantine, had to send his body to Animal Control for decapitation to test brain tissue for rabies. I would not get to bury Bubba. I prayed Bubba would make it until the 10th day to close the case, but he died Thanksgiving morning. Animal Control was closed until Sat., so had to keep Bubba's body on ice for 2 days before taking it to them. With tears and a shattered heart, I buried a symbolic teddybear. This clinic argues the legality of the issue. Panhandling also is illegal, yet police do not arrest them because of the human factor. This clinic has lost its heart. It posts no sign to warn it will hurt you if your pet, in fear or pain, nips anyone and is not up to date on rabies shot. I share my traumatizing experience to warn you.
