On 7.29 we dropped our 2yr dog off to be spayed at 8:15AM, blood work was done and came back normal. She was healthy and had no underlying conditions prior to surgery.
At 2:50 I called to get update on where she was at, the receptionist said "she was just being closed up" and apologized for delay because they had alot of "emergencies" today that pushed things back.
At 4:30PM they called me and said she was awake and ready to be picked up. I got there and sat in my truck (due to COVID) it took 2 people to carry her to my truck at 5:10, she could not WALK or HOLD her head on her own, she was completely out of it.
The techs said "everything went fine" and sent me on my way said she "might be out of it and not eat for a few hours" etc. On the way home I realized they never gave me any kind of medication for her, pain or anti., I quickly called them back and they said "they were closed and come back in the morning for them". I should have known right there they were incompetent.
We have used this vet before but unfortunately the Dr. is always seems to be someone different and no one knows what is going on.
I got home at 5:30 she was completely unable to walk or hold her head up still, we layed her on blanket and brought her water and made her comfortable. She shit herself and blood was in the stool, was was whimpering in pain right after getting home. They said they gave her a 24 hour pain shot, but clearly something was not right. She become very cold so I wrapped her in blankets. She continued to shit herself laying down on/off with blood, we called the vet immediately, they were closed. When I left they said " they had NO one call tonight" which was also a red flag!
How do you have a surgeries for that day and not have a main line open for the night of, in case of complications. Anyway I tried them and their answering machine prompted me to dial a # for an emergency. I left a message noting my dog just had surgery, had not been home for more then an hour, and was still not able to stand on her own or hold her head up, shitting herself with blood, and cold, and whimpering. We received a call back pretty promptly from the Big Thicket in Cleveland a female Dr (she did not do the surgery, but I guess she was the on call "that they said they did not have"). She said " try and take temperature if you can, put her on heating pad, stimulate her, and call me if it gets worse". We hung and had already had the blankets on her, so we went to lay with her and she was shaking and pissed herself and went completely lifeless in seconds of hanging up the phone, this was 1.5 hours from bringing her home from this New Caney Clinic where they told me "everything went fine".
I through her in my truck and rushed her to the closest animal hospital but she was already gone. We opted for an autopsy with the animal hospital to find out the exact cause of the death and we certainly are not pointing our fingers just yet at the establishment for that BUT here comes the KICKER - THEY WERE 100% NEGLIGENT....
Who ever brought Dakota to my truck said the surgery went "fine" when in fact it did not. How do I know this? Because this morning before telling the vet she passed, I asked for a copy of surgical report where it CLEARLY stated, she "LATER HAD A hemorrhage" and was wrapped etc. Not one damn person told me there was a complication during surgery! Maybe this is a "normal complication" but it certainly does not constitute for "everything went fine"!
You mean to tell me a dog that was just closed up at 2:50 PM, woke up (and barely awake) at 4:30 was ready to go home at 5:10 after having an hemorrhage during surgery!!!!!!!!! I think fucking not!
For a Dr. to do a surgery where there was a complication, even a minor one and to not come out to my truck and tell me or a simple phone call to tell me is SO wrong - an "everything went fine" should have never been said. I would assume even the techs that carried her to my car did not know and that is why they said "she was fine". I assume all their "emergencies" from the day made this Dr. rush through and not provide creditable service to my dog. She was never ready to come home an hour after surgery, someone should have told us of the hemorrhage during surgery, no one should have KILLED MY DOG that died from something that could have been easily "watched after surgery" IF WE HAD KNOWN THERE WAS THIS COMPLICATION. You are the DR. it is your responsibility to tell us what we need to know, you were too busy, and now I have a dead dog. We will be pursuing legal action against the Dr. and entire Big Thicket establishment for negligence and filing a complaint with the TX Vet Board.
P.S. I called the Dr. this morning after the report was picked up and he admitted something went wrong and "was sorry no one told me about the hemorrhage". He said he check her and her color was fine and thats why she was sent home. The dog was lifeless when we picked her up, she was no where "fine". read more
