Hi, it's me. The black widow of review writing. Woe be to those who have me writing reviews about…read morethem years after patronage. I don't mean to be the spectre of death. But when the customer experience is 2.5 years in the past, sometimes that happens.* That said, flowers, even if not given in life, are worth giving. So, American Perfumer. Again, I was looking for local, thoughtful gifts that didn't require a lot of standing, shopping and heavy, close breathing to acquire. Smelling good is always on the menu and an under-reviewed business is always quick to get my 'hidden gem/first to review' juices flowing. AP has (had?) a well-appointed, easy-to-navigate site that allows you to sort/shop by brand, perfumers, and elements (concentration, notes, style). This helps to assure that if you can't stand around and sniff a bunch of fragrances (which leads to sales person annoyance, headaches and nose blindness), you can make an educated guess about what your gift recipient (or, yourself) would best like. Genius. Using the tools set before and my incredible knowledge of alchemy, I conjured up a scent so perfect that when my recipient received the scent, she couldn't stop raving about it. That's how you do it. That's how it's done. I hope this store is still around. Others need the opportunity to show off boss gift buying skills. I'm definitely a fan. *Google says the business is closed. Facebook says it's open. Who knows. If you have been so moved by my words, give the business a call and try your luck.

That chore and the experience that spawned it; left an incredibly sour feeling in my soul and I wanted to give back something positive to offset its negativity. I digress, American Perfumer, is a business deserving of the upmost praise, adoration and respect. My first in store experience was nothing short of astonishing. I was able to smell so many scents and was walked through their intricate details effortlessly by Dave (if I have somehow got the name wrong I vehemently apologize.) Being able to describe a scent note and instantaneously be provided several different choices with it in it was a breathtaking, almost ethereal experience. The kindness, professionalism, knowledge and vibe was outstanding. Even during the horrible Covid pandemic he kept email contact with former customers and kept high lighting small independent American perfume creators. The way he understands this artistry is reverent. I look forward to the email correspondence that I receive telling of a new lottery to purchase a limited run or celebrating an Art and Olfaction Award winner. I highly, with no trepidation recommend this business. Dave has created a place of olfactory pleasure and excellence. Please stop by or visit online. You will be a fan too.

I went in by myself as I was dying of curiosity, and there was a large party and a couple of small groups. I selected my scents - and selected too many, so got some help winnowing down. One of the staff walked me through the candle making process and they even give you fun glitter to put in it, so it looks like a little glitter mountain is burning! The essential oil scents are widely varied and they don't just have candles- you can make anything from dryer balls to body spray. I had an extra candle made for a friend, and they will keep my scent combo for a time, so I can always return to have more made! You've got to go back in to pick up the candle the following day, but it is worth it.

This time we learned that you can also make your own lotion and hand soap. I'm not sure how we missed that the first time. We both made a couple hand soaps this time. The service was superb even though they were very busy. The only negative thing I would say this time is that we waited for our candles to cool while talking on their couches. Typically, it should be 1 hour. After 1 &1/2 hours, we asked about our candles and they already had them ready and stored away in the closet. They said they didn't know we were there.

Read my previous review, and add to that: * The roll-on perfume is not to be missed. Love the "Kentucky Girl" scent, which smells a bit like summer but isn't overwhelming. The roll-on also leads to it staying on and smelling sweet longer. * If you have a diffuser, check out the essential oils. There is about a dozen to choose from. I went with lemongrass. * Moss Hill provides perfect gifts for women, in particular, in your life you don't know what to buy for. It's more personalized than Bath and Body Works -- it's really better all the way around -- and who doesn't love something that smells pretty. The customer service has also always been great. The clerks have been eager to talk about the different scents. I hope Moss Hill keeps expanding with new products because I'll likely keep buying more of them.

We showed up at 10 minutes early and let them know we were there. 15 minutes after her appointment was supposed to start, I checked in again. The beautician looked annoyed at me, said that the person who we were shceduled with was finishing up a blow dry, told me to go back out and sit down and they'd come get us. When it was 31 minutes past our appointment time, I asked to speak to the store manager and told them that we were very disappointed and this was unprofessional. The person who we were scheduled with literally started yelling at us, saying that she hadn't had a break all day, and now we were crying to her about our appointment? She actually said that in front of my child and all the customers. Then she stormed off, leaving behind the woman whose hair she'd been working on.

My first and only complaint about the place was that it was hard for me to find. It sits on the corner with a couple of other buildings and it's a very busy area and their signage was not clear to me so I passed it a couple of times before realizing exactly where it was. It wasn't immediately apparent that there was parking in the back either. Once we figured that out, it's all good from there. Magnolia & Fig provides a light and pleasant space to shop for clothing, accessories, and other knickknacks. We were greeted warmly by the attendant, and she gives us the option to browse or asked us if we were looking for something specific. Once we told her what my friend was looking for and her size, the attendant got right to work, pulling dresses for her to try from the racks. We were brought eight or 10 different dresses to try in a small but nicely decorated fitting area. The two employees worked together to bring us outfits to try, giving us space and time to try each one, but giving opinions and thoughts, when asked to. They were very kind patient and efficient. They were sensitive to the needs of my friend as related to her disability without talking down to her or making her feel out of place. It was a very positive experience and we found the perfect dress for my friend's event. In the store, you will find lots of ladies clothing options in addition to some jewelry, hats, shoes and even pretty things for the home. I think my friend paid about $150 for the gorgeous dress and the earrings that she purchased. We would both recommend Magnolia & Fig for a fun boutique experience and a nice selection of clothing to choose from.
