The backroom has darts, pool, and a pinball machine. We were served a seasoned, grilled fresh haddock with house-made pickled vegetables, pico de gallo and lime crema in a corn tortilla and Andy's house Lager. I thought the fish taco was okay and was probably my least favorite food item from the whole tour. Andy's house Lager was very smooth and I really enjoyed it. Our tour guide talked about the suspicious happenings and the history of Andy's Old Port Pub. Also, the tour guide talked about Harbor Fish Market which was right across from Andy's Old Port Pub. The staff visit Harbor Fish Market in the morning and purchase fresh seafood.

Besides them it also featured another local Portland band called Turner (they did a fantastic cover of Zombie by The Cranberries). Then the headliner happened to a be a New York based band currently on their 10th anniversary tour called Keep Flying. Upon entering they have a great amount of space for the venue size with a large bar area as well as a handful of tables. Staff who checked our tickets and the bartenders were friendly. Speaking of the bar I would say I was actually surprised and thought the drink prices were pretty good for an event venue. My wife and I both got a gin based cocktail with mixer (shoutout to locally made Goldie's Gin by Portland Distilling Company). I had with cranberry juice and my wife with lemonade and it came to just $26. I honestly expected it to be more from an event venue. Was great to enjoy our drinks at a table and sit down before the show started. The overall setup of the venue was done well and we got to be up close to the bands which was fantastic. Didn't feel overwhelmingly crowded and acoustics sounded good so no complaints. Can't wait to check out more events/concerts at this venue! Support local music as well as local venues!

You can clearly see the stage and the instrument sounds filled the venue beautifully. The volunteers were so nice and definitely have a pep in their step. There many of them, there to greet and bring you to the general area of your seats. I say general area, because one actually brought us to the opposite end of the row were were seated. It's ok, we were there early and just walked back around. She apologized, when she saw us walking back the other way. As expected with older venues - there are a lot of stairs to traverse if you are in the balcony - this your warning. Drinks and restrooms are not available at every level, so make sure you plan accordingly. Parking is separate and it's not a bad walk - just wear comfortable shoes, so you don't twist your ankle. Security was friendly - expect the metal detectors, wanding, emptying of pockets and searching of bags. Typical for most venues. We look forward to our next show this year!

Last year, there was a looong line to get in leaving a whole bunch of people standing in the pouring rain, I was excited to return this year, figuring the entry process would have been tweaked and streamlined... This year, I was once again lucky enough to get a complimentary ticket to this event. It was a warm and sunny morning, no rain AND I got there early so there was little to no line. Curiously, there was also no sign or indication whatsoever that this event was taking place from the street. Anyway, as we waited, several event staffers came around checking ID's and placing wristbands. About 10 minutes before the 11am start, a woman came out to make an announcement. She whistled very loudly and let the crowd know that we needed to be in 2x2 lines for entry, otherwise we would be slowing everything down. She kind of "apologized" for her intense tone by saying she was just a "loud" person etc... It was actually kind of awful, it felt like the people waiting in line (most of whom had bought tickets), were a bunch of unruly teenagers pushing to get into the school dance for the free pizza. NOT a great way to welcome the paying public into an event. Once inside, it was easy to shake the entry experience and interact with the vendors. Some highlights: Sip of Europe-Delicious merengue/marshmallow cookies Black Tie Catering-A chicken cone and mini apple pie tacos! Linda Kate caterers-Excellent clam chowder and brownies Springdale Farm-Carrot cake cream cheese-bought a big one to take home! Leonardos-Smoked gouda pizza!!! Seacoast coffee-Thank you! The vendors were delightful and excited to share their offerings, and on that note, there was one other problem. The live music was WAY too loud! I am a person who is generally fine with loud music, but this was so loud that it was impossible to have a conversation with the vendors, which is the whole reason that people come to this event. I am a big supporter of local music and am in no way suggesting that this band was not talented or picking good songs. Often musicians on the stage can't tell how far their sound levels travel, if there is live music at all of the Harvest on the Harbor events, maybe hire a sound person? Your clients and performers will thank you! Bravo to all of the chefs and food innovators in this town! It is a gift to this city and state to have so much creative talent working to bring quality, local food to the people!

ONE The Portland Sea Dogs are the AA-affiliate for the Red Sox. They won their first - and, so far, only - championship in September 2006 after beating the Akron Aeros, today known as the RubberDucks. While the food is underwhelming, you're not coming here for that (so set your expectations accordingly: standard stadium popcorn, peanuts, fries, etc). You're coming for exceptional baseball (because this team has been REALLY good these past few years), for the incredible fan experience and different promotions (and they try and incorporate community in every way they can), for a nine inning vacation from your life (it's a slogan they use for a reason). The staff? My favorite people in Maine. Always kind, always friendly, it always feels like I'm visiting family when I walk through those gates. And, yes, Slugger is now an icon (well done to everyone involved in his creation and development). Sassy, smart, and devious at times; kind-hearted, enthusiastic, and patient all the time. It's not strange that I want to hug him after something goes wrong because I know he'd comfort me, pound beers with him after work because I think he'd drink me under the table (but not make me feel bad for it), and run around the stadium with him like I had all the boundless energy he did... is it? TWO Just a couple days before tickets became available for next season, I wrote in my review: "I hope they continue to keep their pricing structure low and fair so that families, and folks being thoughtful about their budgets in a city where nothing is affordable anymore, can continue visiting for another thirty decades." Unfortunately... and despite renaming their historic stadium to promote insurance and because, well, money... for next season, tickets have gone up for Reserved Seats by $2 to $7 PER PERSON depending on which game which day which month -- so, last year ALL Reserved Seating tickets were $12. Now, if you want to see them play on a Tuesday in April? $14 per person. Want to see a summer game? $17 per person. If you want to see any of the firework presentations? $19 per person. That means what what used to be around $50 for a family of four is now $80 for a family of four. Even moving out of Reserved Seating into General Admission, it used to be $9 per person for all games; now it's $12 per person, unless it's a special game (eg fireworks) then it's $14 per person. Louder for the people in the back: what once was under $40 for a family of four in GA is now almost $60). This makes me very concerned about how much beer and concession prices have gone up too, but I guess we won't know that until April... then again when it's a fireworks night, I guess? Correct me if I'm wrong, Sea Dogs, but wasn't the whole Delta Dental thing supposed to help the consumer? Not push us further away?

My friend and I went to see "Dance Nation" last Friday night. It was my first time seeing a show at…read moreMad Horse. I wasn't sure what to expect. First, it is in a residential neighborhood about 5 minutes away from the Mill Creek area. There is a parking lot and if it fills up, there is plenty of parking on the street. All tickets are "pay-what-you-decide", which means you reserve your tix online and pay after the show, whatever you decide to pay, either cash, card or Venmo. There is a "check in" desk to claim your reserved tix, and a small lobby where bottled/canned water, soft drinks, beer and wine are sold. The theater itself is very small...only 50 seats, 3-sided around the stage. Because of its very small size, masks are required in the theater, but not in the lobby. Dance Nation was a powerful show about girls becoming teenagers and the struggles of wanting to stay a kid and wanting to grow up and not wanting to grow up and not wanting to stay a kid, all at once. The casting, the acting, the staging, the writing was excellent. There was no set, limited props, and neither took anything away from the quality of the show. I teared up, laughed out and gasped out loud, and raised my eyebrows a lot throughout the show. It was refreshingly honest. A well done show.
