You can tell the owner put a lot of heart and and soul into the look of the place. Hannah was very sweet. She listened to what I wanted and didn't get "scissor happy" with my long hair. I asked for an inch and a half off, some long layers , and face framing. She did just that. Styled my hair the way I asked as well. I felt beautiful leaving the salon. The reason I docked 1 star from the review is for 2 reasons. The first being that I felt it was the most expensive "trim" haircut I have ever paid for ($97). The second being that the owner does bring her large dog into the establishment and lets it run free while clients are in the salon. The dog was fairly well behaved and didn't try and jump on me or anything like that. But it did approach me at my salon chair. So if you were allergic to dogs or afraid of them, this may not be the place for you. Not that the dog being there would have deterred me from coming but I would have liked that to be communicated with customers prior to booking just from a courtesy standpoint if clients were allergic or afraid of dogs.

She definitely knows curls - particularly that everyone's are different and you have to experiment and learn what works. I've never had anyone try different products on my hair and really pay attention to what their impact. She confirmed what I've known for years but others scoff at: that oil actually dries out my hair. As icing on the cake, the price was very reasonable and I love their online scheduling. I have wavy/curly hair and some people don't know how to cut and shape curlier hair. Shannon blew me away with her techniques and how she took my long hair from blah and boring to short and sexy! I can't wait for my hair to grow out so I can see her again! The salon is super cute and cozy and the energy that Shannon and the stylists share is incredible. I've easily paid over $200 for a adequate cut and she blew me away with a cut for under $100!

Knowing that I was going to have a pretty big day on Saturday November 14th, I ended up booking a…read moredry bar appointment for that evening to treat myself after my big day. This was my first appointment at dry bar but I had heard amazing things about it and to be frank, I knew after being busy all day I would not want to sit down and do my hair. So why not get someone else to do it for me and relax a little? Upon arriving, they were super fast at getting me seated and the woman doing my hair was super sweet! She chatted with me and made my experience really comfortable. She did my hair exactly how I wanted and it felt so clean and voluminous after she was finished. The place is also super cute and clean. I will totally be back to do my hair there again!

3.5 overall - I visited Drybar early this morning for a styled blowout. Booking online is easy,…read morealthough you'll need to set up an account and enter a credit card to hold your appointment. Drybar gets started as early as 8a. Check in is prompt and my stylist came out quickly. I confirmed I wanted my hair to be straightened and also wanted to try a Liquid Glass treatment for additional shine. The shampoo area was fairly busy; however, plenty of space between me and the person in the next chair. Fairly basic shampoo, conditioner and application of treatment. The drying and straightening of my hair fell into the promised time. I was offered coffee, tea, or water. The chair wasn't super comfortable - maybe I'm made too short to fit it well, but the backside only hit me mid-back. Overall, my hair feels cleans and it's straight, but is still holding a lot of volume. This is the second experience at Drybar where I've come home to flat iron my hair. I also don't notice a difference in my hair from the treatment, which was an additional $15. My stylist was friendly and I appreciated having a quiet morning flipping through a magazine and my phone. BUT ... Overall though, Drybar prices have increased in a way that doesn't match the experience. $75 plus tip?! Nope. I could go to my hair stylist for a cut and walk out with the same dried look. Unless I get an unexpected gift card to Drybar, I don't believe I'll be back for services.

Bad review for Nick at Derby City Chop Shop:…read more I've been going to Derby City Chop Shop for a while and usually work with Patrik, who has always been great. Today I called because the online booking system was not working for me, and I was trying to make an appointment. Nick answered the phone and immediately acted annoyed that I even called. Instead of helping, he told me my phone was "the only phone in the world" not working and basically blamed me for the issue. When I asked if there was another way to schedule an appointment, he cut me off and said, "Listen buddy, I don't have time for this right now. Can you come in in 15 minutes or not?" The entire conversation was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional from start to finish. I even had to ask multiple times just to get his name because he refused to give it at first. I can honestly say after that interaction, I would never let Nick anywhere near my hair with a pair of scissors. Customer service like that is unacceptable, especially for someone representing a business people are supposed to feel comfortable walking into.

Timeline: check the website to join their queue. It says 30-45 mins. Great. Hopped in line at 12:30. Arrived at 12:45 (because it says to be early). At 12:55 the barber that was taking walk-ins finished a cut. I didn't get his name, but some "adult" that dressed like a 13 year old in a hat. He looked at me, scrolled his little tablet thing then proceeded to the back for 30 mins or so to eat beefaroni or whatever lunchable his mom packed for him. The other guys who apparently take appointments only couldn't be bothered. At 1:30 a different barber who finished another cut brought me back and cut my hair. Did a fine job. The problem is a certain level of customer service. We all get that kids gotta eat, but have the system adjust to an hour wait so other people that have stuff to do can plan accordingly. I know LEO weekly or whatever says it's a fantastic highlands spot, but plenty of good old-school barbers can remove hair from a person's head without the customer being made to feel like they're inconveniencing the gentle talent that works there. Oh well. I'm confident this entitled establishment has plenty of suckers to pay for a $30 haircut so they can say they got it at the 'cool place'
