First time going, scheduled an appointment with Hope. You schedule online and pick your stylist or the time and they will assign based on availability. The parking is in the back, small lot, I pulled into the wrong lot at first but don't worry there are signs for all the businesses around claiming their parking. You will know if you're not in the right parking lot/spot. Overall great cut, friendly staff, and clean. The place was nice, comfortable and didn't give that pretentious, we charge $150 for a trim vibe. Always overwhelming to find a new stylist and place to go. This place is a good find if you need a salon/stylist. read more

I found my new place!! After returning to Louisville following a 5-year stint in California, I wasn't sure where to get my hair done. Then coronavirus hit, and nobody was getting their hair done, anyway. Well I have finally emerged and decided that my virgin hair which I hadn't colored since I started embracing the natural curls 1.5 years ago needed some color. I searched on Yelp for colorists and thought the work by Larry at Twisted looked gorgeous. So, I called and was able to get an appointment with Larry surprisingly quickly. I was also surprised that he was willing to take a color appointment as late as 4:30 on a weekday, but that made it easier for me to work it around work. My appointment went great. Everyone was so friendly, and Larry made me feel right at home. He listened carefully to understand my vision and explained the possible differences between my Crissy Tiegen-inspired vision and my hair's reality. He also explained why he would recommend certain products for my hair depending on how I was styling it, but was not pushy about it at all. In the end, I'm very happy with how my color turned out. I also loved the way Larry styled it. Plus, I thought the price was sooo reasonable. I will definitely be back to see Larry again! read more

Cara is amazinggg! She has such a great understanding of texture and the subtleties of a haircut that make it look incredible. She asked really good questions about the inspiration pictures I brought in and made sure we were on the same page before diving in. She also recommended products that she used to style my hair that were tailored to the way I'd normally do it (ie showering at night and going to sleep) but wasn't at all pushy about it. Prices here are totally fair for the quality of work (ask me how I previously learned that lesson the hard way). I don't get my hair done very often, in fact I'm a twice a year kinda gal... but when I do Kimberly Brumfield takes amazing care of me and my hair! Twisted has been around for a while and their salon is comfortable and quaint. I went for four stars, because I probably would not go to Twisted on my own. The location isn't ideal for me personally, but understand the St. Matthews appeal. And let's be honest, I'll continue going because my stylist brings me there and it's worth it! I always enjoy my time spent there, especially with Kim. I enjoy the products they use as well- my hair craves products! I have been coming to Twisted for a few years now to have my hairs cut by Melissa Sowder. Melissa is beyond perfect. She makes you feel comfortable and really listens to what you want. She is willing to give you an honest opinion on what will work for your face shape and hair and what will not work. The atmosphere there is extremely comfortable. The music is always a good selection of classic pop and current radio. There are TV's displaying old fashion runways shows and the products used make my hair feel like silk. The salon is smaller than some, but I think it adds to the atmosphere and personality of the place. It is located right in the heart of St. Matthew's, so there is always good places to eat or grab a drink near by once you have your awesome near hair-do. read more

Liz is incredible. I have been looking for a stylist in Louisville since moving here two and half years ago. I found her! I came in for a cut, color (balayage blonde), and updo and left so happy with all three! I have tons of hair (naturally curly, super thick, and coarse), but Liz never made me feel bad about it! She spent time with me, making sure she understood exactly what I wanted. Before she started my updo, she gave me a blowout - my hair was so smooth; it looked better than if I had flat ironed it. She asked questions about the event I was getting the updo for, including what my dress looked like and the venue. One of the biggest challenges of moving to a new state is finding a hairdresser. For over a decade I had the best relationship with my hairdresser and I was super nervous about finding someone new. I am so glad I called and booked an appointment and so very thankful that fate placed me in Kara's chair. From the moment I sat in her chair she took the time to evaluate my hair type and listen to my goals. We looked through some of the ideas I had saved in Pinterest and then she began her work. Each step Kara fully explained the products she was using to include how and why it was relevant to my hair. I came in wanting to go significantly lighter with my highlights. Katelyn was friendly and attentive and I am very happy with my color and her work. However, they pushed back my appointment time by 30 minutes and then I had to wait for an additional 20 minutes once I arrived, which was disappointing. I have been there two or three times I've had loan out that list and Cara they both are amazing I love my hair when they blew it out and it last for a long time. I was leaving on vacation and it definitely lasted for for five days. They have the Products and will recommend you do what's best for your hair, I have not had my hair cut or colored by them that I've never had my hair colored but I'm thinking about having keratin by Cara but she definitely gives a wonderful blowout and style and so does Liz I will be back as often as possible I'd rather them do my hair than me. The staff here is nice, but I was most displeased with my haircut. I'm a guy who's had my hair long for over a decade. I requested that it be taken up to the tops of my shoulders and layered, and provided a picture as a reference. The stylist assured me that she understood what I was requesting. As she started cutting, though, she kept taking more and more off, going above the shoulders. I asked her about the height, and she said the hair would "fall naturally" when it dried. When the dust finally settled, she left me with my hair halfway covering my ears - a far cry from the picture shown and the explicit request that it go just above my shoulders. She left it "feathery", which looked spikey and unprofessional, so I went in a week later to see what could be done to "fix" it. She got rid of some of the spikiness, and the salon was fine with not charging me for the update. Ultimately, I'm tremendously disappointed that the stylist cut way beyond the requested length, was not cautious or conservative at all during the cut, and absolutely failed to cut "to picture". I understand that we don't come out of a salon looking like hair models, but a 4-inch difference between the picture and the end result is quite disappointing. read more

I moved to Louisville last July from the Chicago area. I had just found an amazing salon in Chicago that I was loving before I made the move and was nervous to find a stylist in Louisville. I am SO grateful that I went to Twisted and found Kara who is FANTASTIC. She not only gives me amazing haircuts, but she also does wonders with my hair color - two things that I had struggled to find even in the Chicago area. Kara takes the time to listen to what I want and has given me exactly what I was looking for every time I walked out of the salon. On top of that, she has taken the time to help me find the right products to repair my very damaged hair. I recently tried this salon. I was assured that the stylist had 20 years of experience and was excellent. The front desk person went as far as to say she would completely trust this person with her hair. I brought multiple pictures, emphatically told the stylist that I needed to keep as much length as possible since I am growing it out during the consultation. I gave her permission to take NO more than one inch off my longest layer since I've been growing my hair out for well over a year. I told her emphatically that I just wanted a trim. She took at least 2-3 inches WITHOUT my permission which was close to half of my recent growth. This was not what I had agreed to at all. I had long hair that is now medium length soccer mom haircut. I paid $50 for a major cut when all I wanted as a trim and there's no way for it to be fixed short of extensions since she opted to do whatever she wanted to my hair. The space is OK, but far from amazing. It felt cramped and wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I wouldn't call a staff that doesn't listen to a client amazing either. I was so unhappy I was in tears in the car on the way home. read more

I'm SO confused on how this salon has gotten such a high rating and great reviews. Went in for a balayage and haircut. The haircut was horrible. Nothing that I asked for and one side was a chopped in one area and extremely uneven to the other side. I Wanted to have blonder pieces with some lowlights put in and came out with the exact same all one color dark blonde I went in with. None of my friends or family could tell I had my hair done. I called to ask if the stylist could throw a few bright blonde pieces in just to hold me over until the next time where I could get more blonde everywhere and I was told she didn't want to "compromise" my hair. My hair wouldn't have been compromised as there were no bleach pieces to be seen. I've had my hair bleached twice in the same day and never had any issues. The stylist then said she didn't have any availability for a few weeks. That wasn't going to work for me so I asked if someone else could throw some in and if I needed to I would pay a little and tip to have it done. I was told a partial highlight with this next stylist would cost $80. I said ok (even after just spending $120 not including tip) the next girl highlighted some pieces up to my roots (which we talked about and I did not want) and one side still had 3 inches of root growth. The blonde did not look like highlights it looked like I was super blonde all over except for one side of my head with the roots showing. All I was wanting was some brighter blonde pieces but still keeping some dimension with the dark lowlights. Only the very top of my head was highlighted and I was charged for a partial! When I went to check out I was charged another $120 (not $80 like I was told) not including tip. I ended up spending around $300 in one week to have my hair looking like fantastic sams did it. I saw two stylists and neither gave me what I wanted. Very upsetting. Very expensive place considering the work they do, and not fixing their work for free or a fraction of what I paid. read more

I always feel so comfortable and relaxed when my appointment comes around and am always MORE than happy when I walk out of the salon.
