It wasn't a pleasurable experience to start off with this visit. Honest mistake which could have been handled a little differently but it didn't. A friend made a reservation for our group for dinner a couple nights ago. We didn't know where the place was but that it was part of the Tower Hotel. Walked into the lobby, looked around for the restaurant and eventually found it. Well, what we thought was the restaurant that we originally booked turned out not to be. Walked up to the hostess to check in and they were a bit standoffish. Seemed like the manager, could have been staff who ended up just walking away after saying that we didn't have a booking. Someone else came over and was the same, kind of rude a bit. That kind of left a sour taster in our mouth. Well, the honest mistake which, it was the restaurant downstairs that apparently the reservation was for. But when booking, it showed up as the restaurant upstairs. Anyway...
Compared to the upstairs, this restaurant is more of a casual vibe. It's your main hotel restaurant you would say. The one where everyone ends up at instead of fancy dining. They did have our booking and as our group was large, they had us against the wall which was a little crowded and tight. During the day time, the view would have been amazing of the walkway and river and bridge. But as it was dark and pouring down rain, you could barely see anything. Service was good, and menu was basic. Drink wise, a couple of people ordered the margaritas which was just ok as they said. I stuck to wine which was nice.
Started off with some shared dishes. The nachos which honestly for the price was like something you would get a kids football game. I've noticed that with a lot of restaurants in the UK. It's very basics and nothing to it. We also had a few others share plate which are pretty small. Tapas style in a sense. I'm used to a starter as something for the group but most starters here normally is enough for one. They're pretty small in size. Entrees, a mixture of dishes. The steak pie which was ok. Two orders from our group which one said it wasn't that good. Fish and chips was ok, nothing overly wow about it. Cheese pizza was actually nice. If you mess up on a cheese pizza, then there's something wrong. Also a burger, nothing fancy but was enjoyed. There was also a chicken skewers dish and some other chicken dish. The food was ok. Nothing wow to rave about but it was nice.
At least the service was way better and the staff were friendlier than the restaurant upstairs. Restrooms are located upstairs which is just up from the check in counter. They do have a full bar as well as outdoor seating. read more
