I was suffering from digestive issues and other ailments for a couple of years and through the advice of a friend, I started acupuncture treatments with Dr. Chang. I never had any previous exposure to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). So I was a little apprehensive but my friend highly recommended that I try TCM since she had great results with Dr. Chang. What I really like about Dr. Chang is that he starts every appointment with a detailed consultation. He documents his medical chart/notes very thoroughly, analyzes symptoms carefully, asks very thoughtful questions and tunes his treatments accordingly. This review is long overdue. About a month ago, I started experiencing severe pain in my left leg, and it just kept getting worse. I had to use a cane to walk. I'm an active person--walking my two dogs every day, working, and caring for my elderly parents--but this pain made everything difficult. I couldn't rest; I had too many responsibilities. I went to urgent care, and the doctor said it was sciatic nerve pain. He gave me a shot and told me to rest, but I couldn't afford that. I felt trapped in my own pain. Desperate for relief, I decided to try acupuncture. After searching online, I found Dr. Victor Chang's office nearby. I left a message, and he called me back right away. I explained my situation, and even though he was closing for the day, he kindly agreed to see me in 10-15 minutes. When I arrived, he was so welcoming and took the time to explain that there was an additional muscle involved. I walked in with a cane and walked out without it. It felt like a miracle. That night, I was sore, but each day got better and better. I was in shock at how much relief I felt. despite having been introduced to chinese medicine some years ago, and to wonderful effect, i had not remained as committed to the practices as i should have, and found my way to Victor under fairly unprecedented physical distress. having moved since my last treatment, and having discovered in my distress that my trusted practitioner had as well, proximity and urgency were suddenly some of the most compelling factors in my desperation to find care. finding Victor, whose credentials first brought me hope, even in my compromised state, practicing blocks from my home and eager to make time for me as quickly as possible, was a stroke of luck i've only become more appreciative of over time. I had always been curious about acupuncture so I decided to give it a try. My sister and I came in for a diagnosis, and wanted particular help with sleep and stress. Dr. Chang was gentle, and the service was great. After the pins are placed, you lay down in a dark room to relax for about 30 mins, before removing the pins (the heated lamps are a nice bonus!). He is open on the weekends, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule. (During the week, he also practices at a location in Sunnyvale) Prices are very reasonable as well--$100 for the one-hour first time visit, and then $85 for subsequent visits (though you can get this reimbursed through your health insurance if prescribed). If I do acupuncture again, I will definitely return to Dr. Chang! read more

Victor Chang is a true healer. He's only the 2nd person I've met during my 68 years who I think of in this way. On top of being a true healer, he's as affable and generous with his time and knowledge as the day is long. I'm skeptical of all medical practices (western, eastern, natural, etc.) and all medical practitioners. I only decided to try acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine after both western medicine and homeopathy failed to help me with a nasty case of hives. Between acupuncture and herbal recommendations, I'm doing measurably better (way less need for antihistamines) than I was doing before seeing Victor. I've had eczema since I was a baby, with varying severity. These past few months my eczema had been especially inflamed and intense, so I decided to try acupuncture. I have been to several acupuncture places in both bay area and back in China. Dr. Chang is the best acupuncturist I have ever met. He is very kind and patient. I had period pain for 3-5 years and often have diarrhea. He explains in detail why I have those symptoms and gives me a lot of advice on how to improve it in daily life. I really appreciate the explanation and the advice! He practices over 10yrs Taichi & Qigong, which really helps his acupuncture ability. I can feel Qi when he pushes the needle, a mixed feeling of sour and numb near the places. It is a really amazing experience. After 4-5 times treatment, I feel so much better with my period pain and I seldom have diarrhea. He also tries to work out a way with my out of network insurance. Dr. Victor Chang is a wonderful acupuncturist who solved my persistent lower back pains that have been bothering me for years, causing great pain in daily activities as well as in my Taiko drumming. The previous Lumbar Spine Xray examination found advanced degenerative disc disease at L5-51. The pain to the lower back had gotten to the point about a year ago where I needed some kind of relief from it. Through a mutual friend's introduction, I was encourage to visit the clinic of Dr. Victor Chang Acupuncture for help. I was even having problems with my lower left-side back while trying to sleep! Dr. Chang listened to all my needs, answered all my questions, and proceeded to treat all pains with his needles. The treatment was not as painful as I had feared. I remember a quick series of momentarily little "pricks" during the 30 minute session while I was under a warm heat lamp keeping me comfortable. After this first visit, I could walk out of his clinic with big long strides PAINFREE at last. Within the next two months, I have had a couple of short "tune up" sessions at the clinic with the doctor and I am happy to report that I have not been bothered to this day (more than one year) by back pains anymore! Dr. Chang is professional and very knowledgeable in his trade. He not only solved my back pains but still contributes to my general well being and healthful existence to this day. I suddenly had tinnitus in my right ear a few weeks back, and it got especially loud at night when I slept. It sounded like a mix of wind blowing outside the window, and a middle-pitched machine-rumbling sound. I tried many methods, including ear droplets that would dissolve any ear wax, and seeing another acupuncturist. Neither worked. My parents then recommended me to see Dr. Chang, who patiently explained to me the cause behind all of this, which was stress and sleep. He also performed acupuncture on me twice, within a time span of four days, and cured me of tinnitus the first day of the acupuncture, which persisted for more than 3 weeks. The ringing came back for a little bit after I recovered, but it went away really quickly because I adjusted my lifestyle, and focused on getting better sleep and keeping my stress levels low. The staff is very friendly, and the treatment was very effective. Immediately after the needles went in, my acute ankle pain was cured and I felt much better. From then on, my ankle no longer hurt. I went to see Victor Chang because I'd been having pain in my legs for about 3 months, after walks. My usual habit was to walk about 3 miles a day, 3-4 times a week. After about 1-2 miles in to the walk, I'd start to limp a little. The pain in my left calf was pretty constant even after walking. I bought new running shoes, orthotics for the running shoes, orthotics for my regular shoes, special slippers for wearing around the house that were supposed to help my supination. This only seemed to make the pain worse. BTW, I had been seeing a chiropractor during the time too. I decided to give acupuncture/TCM a try. I'm happy to report that after 3 visits, I am pain free. Victor has a gentle and caring demeanor and the acupuncture benefited my overall health as well. I learned about sleep, diet and we discovered that my legs were uneven.
