No B.S. from anyone at this company. Other local plumbing companies? Quoted $698 (vs $423 with Victor James Plumbing) for replacing two water line valves. Quoted $523 (vs $244 with Victor James Plumbing) for replacing one water line valve. Note that they wanted to charge MORE THAN DOUBLE what Victor James Plumbing quoted!! One guy wanted to charge $150 just for coming out for the estimate (vs $65 service visit fee for Victor James Plumbing). I find it sad that, because we customers can't always know what a fair market price for services is, some companies will price gouge us without a second thought. We have used Victor James multiple times for various plumbing jobs and they have always provided great work at a great price. The most recent job led to me writing this review. We were having guests over for the first time since Covid began. A day before the arrival we noticed a sewer gas smell coming from our basement. I called with hopes they could come quickly, and luckily they could make it happen. Vic arrived and began troubleshooting the issue. He took care of the problem quickly and the price was very fair. Had they not have quickly made it out to us, our hosting would have stunk (pun intended) for the man cave unveiling. Great work and even better people at Victor James...thank you! read more

This plumbing company is extremely unethical. My husband and I called them to take care of an issue at a family member's house. The guy they sent out didn't seem to know what he was doing (he took way over the time that another company took doing the same exact thing a few years ago), then he broke a piece off of his tool into a pipe. He spent over an hour trying to get the piece out, saying that he had to rip up a toilet to work in the issue that we originally called for. Then he had someone else come out who was supposedly there to help get his broken piece out, but this guy came into the house WITHOUT A MASK on, in the middle of the pandemic. My husband gave him a mask to put on, and the guy claimed he didn't put one on because he didn't think anyone would be in the house. When the original plumber was finally done, he tried to way overcharge us because he spent all that time trying to get his own part out of the pipe. He then lied and said that the second guy who came got the part out of the pipe but he didn't have it with him to show us because the second guy left. The original plumber then said that we needed to call some other company to fix the originally problem which he claimed he could not fix (yet still charged us over $400 for). We looked at their site later and Victor James Plumbing claims they do do this particular service on their site. He also did not reattach the toilet he ripped up properly and it no longer works. We had to call Roto Rooter to fix the original problem and while the guy was here he confirmed that the part that Victor James Plumbing broke off is still in this pipe and the only way to get it out is to rip up the ground and replace it which will cost thousands of dollars. DO NOT USE VICTOR JAMES. I wish I had seen some of the other negative reviews about this company before calling them. We would have never used them. read more

called Victor James to come to my house to look at my hot water heater. They came and looked at it and told me it needed to be replace. there estimate for the cost was $800.00 dollars more than the other estimate I received from another plumber. Needless to say I went with the other plumber. They did a great job and I saved $800.00 So I would highly recommend that if you have a big job that needs to be done, do yourself a favor and call somebody else. there are many good plumbers out there and you will save a lot of money. read more

Denise at the office was very kind from the moment she picked up the phone it didn't have the feel of a business call. First impressions matter to us and Denise really wanted to help! She was patient with us, informative and knowledgeable about the work that would need to be done. Matt, the plumber, was prompt and professional. He explained all the work that would need to be done prior to starting. He was in and out in a timely manner. Matt is truly a master of his craft. After our built-in gas oven died, it was really hard to find a plumber to come install it (a PA law). One plumber made me wake up at 6 AM for a consult but never showed. Another wouldn't return our calls. Another would only give an estimate on phone. Victor James was about the 5th on list. We called before 9 am and within the hour, they had people here ready to work. It was a baker's dream come true. Here's what I liked about them: - they showed up the day we called - they have a thing called straightforward pricing that you get to see in print so no made up pricing. - they took $100 off my bill when the work took less time than they thought. how honest! - done in one day Here's what I didn't like: - no free estimate. There is a $69 service fee. This got waived though - the price. Okay, not their fault but replacing a built-in gas oven is pricey! - our boiler/heater is so old they couldn't get the pilot light to relight. they had to send someone else out to fix it. just a time waster These aren't big dislikes so they're 4 stars in my book read more

Our toilet developed a phantom flush. It would flush itself every 3-4 minutes. Not a full flush, just a bit and then refill. I knew what the problem was, I just couldn't source the part needed to remedy the problem. After striking out at the hardware store, the plumbing supply shop and failing to solve the problem using a universal part, I decided to take the plunge (get it, the plunge?) and called Victor James Plumbing. They were local and I like to support local businesses. They assured me they'd have the correct part for my toilet and explained they had a minimum service call charge. I was so tired of hearing the flushing that I was willing to pay $100+ for service call and part. When they showed up (late), they fiddled with the toilet for 5 minutes and after a call to the boss (who evidently is the actual plumber (the two who showed up were only plumbing technicians), handed me an updated estimate-for replacing the entire toilet, to the tune of almost $900!!! That was their solution to a problem that required a $10 part. So I sent them on their way agreeing to pay the minimum service charge (and kicking myself for providing my credit card number when I made the appointment). I then discovered they charged almost $200 to my card (more than double the original estimate). Needless to say I wasn't having that. I called and complained and told them I was going to dispute the charge. After a rather unpleasant exchange, they agreed to issue a refund - still charging the minimum service charge. Later I found the part online for $12 including shipping and did the repair myself. The take away? Either Victor James Plumbing has an inept plumber, or they are just crooks. read more

Our sewer line backed up into the house, can you say, yummy? Oh and we have a guest staying with us. A friend recommended Victor James, we called right away and they were able to see us the same day. Not with some obscene window of time either, a 2 hour window AND they arrived within 30 minutes of the beginning of the projected time. We also received a call 30 minutes before their arrival, so I didn't have to be totally tethered to the house all day. So connivence A+ The two gentlemen that arrived seemed quite young, but were total professionals. They cosiderately put shoe covers on whenever they walked through my house, and walked me through exactly what needed to be done and how they were going to do it. My old house proved no easy task, and took longer than they had anticipated, but only by 20 minutes. Pricing was given up front as well as the full explanation. I've unfortunately needed to use this services of this excellent group several times over the past 2 years, once in an emergency situation when my hot water heater decided to retire and flooded my first floor. From my first encounter with Denise on the phone, to visits from Victor, Matt, Joey and most recently, Adam, ALL of my experiences have been extremely positive. This group is very professional, friendly and always willing to help. I've always been comfortable having them in my home. They are clean, respectful and often have offered suggestions or tips I would not have thought of. They explain what they are doing and why and I appreciate that the guys never talk down to me because I'm female. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs plumbing services. But on our last visit they cleared a blockage in our basement drain to the sewer system for $800 and when it recurred in 2 weeks I was told that their drain clearing work isn't guaranteed and they really don't do drain clearing. Jim(the owner) is a dishonest person, with no integrity. His plumber came out and used the standard pricing guide (designed by Jim) to give me a quote. Jim was unaware I received a price already from one of his guys, and came to my location upon his request. I thought he just wanted to size up the job before they started but he quoted me again! This time he was almost double what I was originally quoted by his company! I said, "I was already quoted $800 by you guys a few days ago?" He then said "Ok that should work".????? What was he trying to do here? He was trying to take me to the bank. He is extremely passive aggressive too. Since then his price has again gone up, and when my wife asked for an explanation he de-graded her and hung up the phone.He was an hour late for our appointment and when I confronted him about it and told him I didn't have much time because I was already late for work, he didn't even acknowledge what I said. Jim, the owner is extremely dishonest. It's unfortunate because I had small jobs done by his guys in the past and they do a good job, but I can't do business with owners like this. We had a bad leak there was water leaking from the ceiling in the room under the bathroom, looked like a disaster. The technician who came seem to be very experienced, he carefully measured everything to pinpoint the exact origin of the problem and repaired it with a lot of care and explained everything very clearly.
