While I had high hopes for this place, we were very disappointed with the overall quality of the inn while the price was quite high. We're came to Murphy's for a wedding, and this was supposed to be the nicest place to stay. While I'm OK with country charm and character, for $200/night I expect a few things. We stayed in room Doris, one of the nicer ones with a king bed. For one, it was very loud in our room. Between hearing street noise, the restaurant downstairs and just hallway noise our sleep and privacy were both disturbed all the time. Next, the bed, while it was a king it was not the most comfortable bed, the pillows were quite bad, and there wasn't even a mattress cover on there, the lines were this off white dingy color and just didn't feel crisp and clean, the blankets were this old duvets that you know are never washed and are a hygienic nightmare. The temperature to the room was controlled outside and it for some reason controlled several rooms, very inconvenient to deal with at night or frankly anytime. The bathroom was big, but the shower over the whirlpool tub was a bit trashy and there was lots of visible mold in the shower and jets, so forget actually using the tub. The handle for the hot water also was broken and fell off once. There is no phone or TV in the room, but there is wifi. The breakfast was basically continental so we didn't eat there and ate at the restaurant which is quite good, but when we booked it the description made it sound like a full breakfast was included. I've stayed in B&Bs where full breakfast was berries and omelets made to order, that's what I expected here. I'm not sure if this town has any better accommodations, but this place could be greatly improved with a remodel, it's a shame that in towns like this standards fall short. read more

The saying about being old and quaint I usually go for but old and not taken care of is another thing. The hotel is very over priced for what you receive. No televelvison, and the patio over looks the restaurant so you feel like the entertainment for the diners below. Even when you are inside you can hear all of the conversation below. The parking is bad too. You will get a better deal if you stay at the Travel Lodge in Angel Camp. The hotel is in a great location in the center of town. Easy to walk to great food and wine tasting. Murphy's is an awesome little town. read more

False advertising for sure! Crestview "Pond Estates" what pond? It was excavated right before our arrival. No discount to compensate ? The management didn't plan on telling us, it was only because I had been asking questions that the management felt like they had to say something? What the !$&@$? That is poor management I'f you ask me! Booked this place a month ago with the premis of the "Pond" being the focus of the ambiance. The property manager Linda was rude not understanding. I would of booked somewhere else had they informed us appropriately but by the time they said anything it was too late to book elsewhere! The property management did not even offer a discount! We have stayed at Victoria Inn in the past and I thought this would be the perfect spot for our family reunion. I can't believe the owner decided to make changes knowing a big family was coming from far away. It really puts a bad taste in everything here. Another thing they charged us extra for early check in and their reasoning was so they could turn down the air?! Hello you do t even have to go to a place for that when you have the nest! Also there were someone's dirty underware left in the master bedroom ewe and when we asked for extra towels we were told by Linda that "she" felt we didnt need them!? We are a party of 12 with no maid service and we can't get an extra towel or two? Yes the place was big and beds were comfy but what a bad way to manage it. read more

Stayed at a few of the V Vacation homes in the past months. Mimis house is a DELIGHT. Hidden gem overlooking main st. We've stayed twice now. Very roomy with a full kitchen & two rooms with their own bathroom attached. Great for two couples who like privacy but a open entertaining area. We've also stayed at the wright house which is a nice modern home just behind Main Street. We loved enjoying all of the amenities including the outdoor area. The Dunbar house is a great bed & breakfast. We rented two rooms which were both so unique & had made to order breakfast. The grounds are gorgeous. read more

I had a great time visiting in Murphy's California. I had come there in June for my cousins wedding and I stayed at the Dunbar house my mom and sister were not able to join me for the wedding but when I got back home I kept telling them how cute the little town of Murphy's is and how friendly the people are and I promised them that I would bring them one day. Well we stayed there last week and we stayed at the Victoria Inn the staff is great the room was wonderful and we ate dinner at VBistro the food was delicious!! I am already looking forward to going back for another get away weekend. My mom, sister and aunt really enjoyed the little mini vacation and we all would do it all over again because it was just that nice!! read more

We had a nice stay at the Victoria Inn. It was clean and quite. Nice that it is located in the center of town. Was able to park right in front. My only complaint is that no breakfast was offered. I understand covid makes this a little hard however what is a bed and breakfast without breakfast. I have been to other hotels recently that offer some sort of breakfast. It would be nice if some effort was made especially since Calaveras County is starting to lift some restrictions and allowing indoor dining. read more

I stayed in the Doris suite and it was really nice, the hotel is right on Main Street around everything. The Doris suite is right above the bar/restaurant so there is noise from that but it closes down fairly early so it wasn't a problem for us. There's a nice patio and a giant jacuzzi tub that can fit two comfortably. The only thing that I disliked was Parking, there is a small lot but for the hotel however it's all taken by visitors so we had to circle and find parking. Would love it if the hotel would maybe put reserved with a room number so there is dedicated parking for the hotel guest. Overall enjoyed my stay and the Inn and the staff was very nice and accommodating read more

We stayed in the Garden House above the Man Cave after the Toby Keith concert. It was very clean and quiet, was well stocked with kitchen items and great coffee, and the beds were very comfortable. I left my iPad behind and called the owner when I arrived home. She put it in the mail for me the same day and I had it a day later. Great customer service! The owner of the Inn needs to seriously invest some money in upgrading that facility. Lets not confuse "charming and quaint" with "old, worn out and cheap". This was the first time I have had to share the temperature control of our bedroom with three other guest rooms. The control panel was in the hallway and anyone could chose whatever suited them for all 4 bedrooms! Never seen that in my entire life. Of course the air conditioning could not keep up and we were told the following morning that it was "broke".This was not a confortable way to spend a night. The red carpeting in the stairs and narrow hallways was stained and dirty and in dire need of changing. By mistake, I took a wrong turn and found myself in another staircase leading out and that was the service entrance/exit of the houskeeping, I suppose. It was full of leaves, dirt and debris. A sight to behold. The said housekeeping left a bit to be desired in our room; found wrappers under the small armchair, a big orange vitamin tablet (?) under the bed at the edge of the torn bedskirts.  Which brings me to the bedding: isnt it time to change the old old mattress instead of putting a topper that was sliding off it and we could not straighten it? Again not a confortable way to spend the night. We had a tiny room with a balcony that had not been swept at all. It was full of leaves.  Ants had made a trail inside the bedroom. I found several in the bed, on the wall and the hostess gave me ant bait to stick on the balcony.  We could not enjoy the balcony; "Skyview" (the name of our room) has no view: a partial view of a neglected garden next door, the wall of a house in front, view of the Inn back porch with huge bags (laudry?), garbage etc,  and the hot fumes spewed by the restaurants below. We did not sit there at all. I pass over details like no parking, no screen on window, and no room to put your toiletries in the bathroom although it is definitely large and roomy enough. What gives? it should be an easy fix. This was a surprisingly disappointing facility. read more

Very disappointed the room was nice. However they put us in the sweet water room. We were right over the courtyard could hear right through the walls. Laughing and talking till late. Bed was very uncomfortable every time my husband or my self moved we woke up the other. In the morning we were woken by the other room turn on the water I assume to take a shower. Looks like cheapness is setting in... We love visiting Murphy's and have stayed here several times, but seems like Victoria's is really cutting corners these days. This is definitely an upscale place - excellent continental breakfast, free cookies and very nicely appointed rooms. Which is what has kept us coming back. However, this time we found in our room: dirty carpet, moldy shower grout, dirt on the walls especially around the air vent, mis-matched light bulbs in the room and hallway. Next morning towels weren't even picked up or replaced, wi-fi was free but hit-and-miss - I could go on. I will say breakfast was still stellar. It's the details that make the difference between an average stay vs an upscale experience. Upscale rates need to reward with upscale room and guest care. Hope they get their "you know what" together... read more

Wife and I needed a quick get a way on short notice. Never been to Murphy's CA before. About 1.5 hour drive. Loved the town. We chose the Veranda to stay at. Awesome choice! It's a private "studio" on the 2nd story of a small building. Nice Mexican restaurant occupies the first floor. The Veranda was bigger than we expected. Full kitchen and living room with a nice balcony too. Fireplace was a nice touch. Nice king bed around the corner and the bathroom was nice as well. We will be back again for sure. We spent 1 day at big tree city walking around admiring the gigantic sequoia trees. Never seen trees that big in my life. We ate at a different restaurant each meal. Each one was great. The small ice cream shop is incredible as well. Even with all the COVID 19 restrictions we still enjoyed ourselves. Also, have to give a shout out to Marjorie from the Victorian. She's the lady that answered the phone and runs the front desk. She is amazing! read more

Love the high ceilings in this thoughtfully appointed room. If you stay when it's hot, be sure to leave the room AC on so it will be cool when you return otherwise, the little unit won't be sufficient to cool down the room and you will have to sleep with it running all night. The bed was firmer than we like, but the linens were very nice and the room was very clean and had a really good feel. Cami checked us in and she was super nice and very helpful. We felt very welcome here even during these challenging times. I would definitely recommend this place and look forward to staying here in the future. read more

As usual Shirley was there to greet us when we checked in. Our room (9) was very spacious with a small sitting area. Love that they have automatic coffee pots in lobby area for early risers like my husband. He is able to get his coffee and drink it on the little balcony of our room without disturbing me. We had a great time at Dana Dee for a girls night getaway. Booking, checking in and out all so simple. Dana Dee has all the kitchen staples you need, a wonderful balcony, and was very clean. We parked our car upon arrival and due to its convenient location walked to lunch, wine tasting and breakfast the next morning. We will definitely be back! read more

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. We stayed at a property managed by this company over the weekend. On Friday night/Saturday morning, sometime after midnight, a man walked INTO our house, INTO the kitchen, through the back door without knocking. We had a house full of women. He claimed he was the owner and we were being too loud. Turns out he didn't own the home, he owns the company that was managing it. Fast forward to Saturday around 6pm when we just got home, and had been gone all day, this man shows up outside of the house, sitting in his car harassing us. We had to call 911 as we feared for our safety. We can completely understand if we were being too loud, as we had 8 friends from different states and cities reunited and were honestly just so happy to see each other and having a great time! Call the cops so they can tell us to be quiet, no problem. Call my phone to tell us we're being too loud, no problem! But to walk INTO a home in the middle of the night, through the back door, without knocking or calling is 100% unacceptable. The police called the actual home owner and they allowed us to stay, and the cops told Michael (the property management owner) to leave. Michaels lack of professionalism and common sense single handedly ruined our vacation and this is not taken lightly. We spoke with other business owners in the area, and turns out Michael is known to be "nuts" and "everyone knows he's crazy." SO THAT'S COMFORTING. We're all back at our homes now and safe, but this is something that needs to be known, especially with Murphys being such a small town. The one positive experience we did have with the company was a worker named Samantha, who was a kind, understanding human being. She took no side, but empathized knowing how terrifying that must have been. read more

Great getaway for my husband's birthday weekend. We stayed in the Wisteria Cottage. Nice and quiet and no TV so got away from all the COVID-19 news which was a great stress reliever. Put on our CDs and enjoyed relaxing in the evening. Check-in was seamless and they suggested great restaurants to try (all were fabulous). It was rainy and they loaned us their huge umbrellas so that we could still enjoy the walking tour of the town. read more

From beginning to end we had a great experience at the Victoria Inn. We found everyone at the hotel, and around town generally, to be incredibly friendly and hospitable. Check in was easy and check out was easy. We stayed in The Doris room #7. The room was good size with a king bed. The bathroom was large with a HUGE jetted tub. The balcony, while small, was more than adequate. Breakfast was more than expected. Michael was making breakfast and it included hot oatmeal, bagel and lox, freshly baked scones and apple turnovers, coffee, juice, and various other items. Based on our stay we will be more than happy to stay again. After we had breakfast we spoke with Michael about our plans for the day that we checked out. They included hiking in nearby Big Trees. He was kind enough to offer us to stop back in at the hotel on our way back home for a quick stop to use the restroom or just take a break. We were very impressed by his kindness. Our only INCREDIBLY tiny, mostly minuscule, inconvenience was not knowing how to get in after hours. Thankfully someone in the restaurant was able to help. The only reason I'm even mentioning it is for someone planning on staying in the near future to be sure to ask if it's not mentioned. And to all of those people complaining about there not being televisions in the room... GET OVER IT!!!! It's not as if they advertise of there being TV's in the rooms. For goodness sakes, find a way to entertain yourself that doesn't include a television. read more

Stayed here over our wedding weekend.... We arrived after hours and the staff was super nice and left the key in a box for us. I'll admit, my first response was "where'd they hide the tv? Does it pop out of this table?" But after I got over the shock of no tv (I know, total loser...) I was in LOVE We had a ginormous spa tub, and I could have spent the whole weekend in it if I didn't have to go get married. The bed was big and fluffy with a little curtain that separated it from the rest of the cute room...which was in fact, super cute. It had a little kitchen-ish area with fresh coffee and a little fridge, wine glasses (so vital if in Murphys) and a nice stereo with ipod dock. We enjoyed coffee and pastries on our little porch while listening to the fountain and enjoying a beautiful Murphys morning. The location can't be beat if you're in Murphys for the weekend. Okay, so here's the deal with why this gets three stars instead of one. We made a reservation to stay here for two nights. When we arrived, a woman named Toni was behind the desk. She was listening to her voice mail on speaker phone and held up her finger for us to wait until she was done. We waited until she finished what she was doing. She proceeded to check us into our room with a fairly cold demeanor. I asked her questions about where to eat in town since it was Monday and a lot of restaurants are closed on Mondays. She could not have been less helpful. Then I asked where to get a pedicure in town. This is a nice B&B. In my mind, the appropriate thing to do is for to have asked if she could make an appointment for me. She didn't. She sighed and looked up a number for me. She also sighed when I went back down and asked for two wine glasses and an opener. She also sighed and shrugged when my girlfriend told her we were not getting the promised "free wi-fi" in our room. She told her "Well, I don't know anything about that," when she could have at least said "I'll look into it for you." At that point, we were so exasperated that we didn't bother telling her that our balcony didn't have chairs on it--we just went and stole two from another room. Oh yeah, and with the exception of one other room, all of the other rooms were empty for the night, so it's not like Toni was overwhelmed or anything. So, onto why this is getting three stars though. The next morning, we went downstairs to tell them that we would be checking out early and not staying a second night. The owner was there and asked us if we were displeased with our room. I told him a little bit about our disappointment in the service, and he immediately offered to comp us for the next night's stay, even upgrading us to their best room. It was an incredibly generous thing to do and very good business on his part. And though we appreciated his offer, we were sort of soured on the place and opted to head back home that day anyway. Before we left, the owner gave us a certificate for a free night's stay the next time we were in town. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was huge. I dug on the claw-foot tub. It was a cute little place, and we were very impressed with how the owner chose to deal with our dissatisfaction. I would give this place another shot based on that, but only if Toni's not working the desk. There's also what looks like a tasty and fairly upscale restaurant attached the B&B but it was Monday, so it was closed. read more

Darling Inn AND rooms. We were in town for an event, so did not get back to our room until late, so we picked one of their smallest rooms, but got to see a suite the next morning. If you plan on hanging out it the room, you probably want a little larger room than we had, and the suite we saw was spectacular. We have stayed here every April for 5 or 6 years. Love the location. The first year the now V restaurant was where you had a wonderful breakfast. The porch now part of the V restaurant had great chairs for relaxing and enjoying the flowers or reading. Michael the owner would bring you a glass of wine. We stayed in the smallest room the Skyview and enjoyed it. Next we stayed in Opi's Cabin and the toilet ran for the three days we were there. The room was dark and there was no place to put your luggage. There was a large wooden warerobe but useless for suitcases. We were now forced to eat breakfast in a small room that was once the handicapped room. Everyone tripping over each other and you had to eat off low tables if there was a table near you. The porch no longer had chairs relatxing for after a day of shopping and wine tasting. The following year we stayed in Opi's cabin again and the toilet was still running and ran for the full three days. Knobs were missing of drawers and everything looked a little worn and shabby (not shabby chic). The afternoon cookies in the hallway were still delicious. The next year we stayed in Dori's Room which was the best room yet but again a running toilet, knobs missing, a huge roman tub that never filled and the jets didn't work. The last year we stayed in Goldfields (not sure about the name) again ok but shabby. We love the food at the V restaurant but decided this year to not to go to the Victorian Inn because 1) the place was becoming very shabby 2) the lack of porch seating - there is a garden if you can call it that in back but no comfortable seating, 3) the awful set up for breakfast and 4) the very steep stairs to get to the rooms. . read more

A friend recommended the Victoria Inn, and we wanted a fun 2 night vacation. We were not disappointed. We came mid week in July without a reservation because I wanted to see the rooms before choosing which one we wanted. The staff was so nice and let us look at all the available rooms, then threw in a 10% discount. We chose #9 the Sycamore. The shower is awesome! At first, once we moved all of our stuff and settled in, we could hear all the clattering of dishes and chatter of the restuarant patrons downstairs. I was worried that it would go on all night. Be assured that even in the high season the restuarants close by 9 and the noise ends by 9:30. The breakfast was more than adequate and the cookies, brownies, coffee and tea available 24/7 is a nice touch. You can't beat the location. If we come back to Murphy's we would stay here again. read more

Can't say enough amazing things about this place. My husband and I came up on a Friday for a Saturday night concert and we just had the best two nights. I am all about customer service and the front desk staff were so friendly, kind and very attentive. It just makes a huge difference when people take the time to give a warm, caring welcome. I felt like I was staying in their home and they wanted us to really relax and enjoy ourselves. I'm not sure what room we had(the name)it was on the bottom floor #15 and it was perfect. This has to be the greatest hotel in town. The rooms are beautiful and the outside is also nice. The owner is very kind and Tony was also very nice. They took great care of us. We had a wonderful romantic trip. The location is the best and easy to access all of the restaurants on Main Street. The continental breakfast was huge with many choices.
