One of my good ex-coworkers and I have been inspired to go on a tour of many of the English tea houses between Aurora and Portland. Seeing this little Victorian Belle of a gem online really got us excited. I passed some run-down neighborhoods to get there. And the property itself isn't as large as I envisioned in my mind. Parking is minimal and most people just parallel where they can along the side. But the house itself is absolutely stunning. There is so much detail in the stained glass on every single door. Even the dust corners on the stairs are uniquely ornate. All three levels are completely decorated. And festive Christmas fixings are adorned everywhere you look. The house is so well managed, and it is so lovely to be able to actively enjoy a piece of history. The hostess was very flexible about changing our seats when we were too close to our other patrons. Personally, we were in the Winnie Holgate Room, which has creamy beige walls and blue accenting. It overlooks the courtyard and has very pleasant views. Foodwise, we got to trial some mushroom soup. It was so rich and tasty. It was concentrated, full bodied unami with a hint of herbs. Everything else was presented on a tiered serving stand. The cucumber cream cheese and salmon sandwiches were pretty basic. The smokiness of the salmon was muted. The caprese skewer had a nice tangy bite to it with just enough basil to give it some fragrance. Out of all the pastries, the peach scone was the best. There was just enough of the fruit pieces to give it some texture without overwhelming it. The accompanying jam and mascarpone were spot on. The cherry and chocolate scone was a little drier. And the fruit chunks were very large in ratio to the chocolate. It was not a complimentary combination. In regard to the tea, Smiths is always great quality. They have good full bodied flavors with low astringency. Overall, the food and tea were pretty decent. And this was indeed a unique experience in a historic location that not only serves high tea but also caters other events. Its so wonderful that in Portland we have a variety of magical light displays for the season which are such a joy to attend. I have seen plenty of photos of this gorgeous house and always wanted to visit. Finally this year I was able to do so. It was such a perfect evening. Friends live about 6 blocks away so we met up on a very rainy and busy Saturday night to wander through together. I'm grateful she lives so close since parking in this area is already normally a bit traumatic BUT the Max stops nearby. I would genuinely recommend that to you. Even with a Saturday before Christmas level busy crowd, we had a great time. Most people were very respectful though there are always that one or two. One of our friends stopped two small children who were trying to destroy an organ seat whose parents were in the Santa line and paying zero attention. The Santa pictures looked pretty worth it and the line actually was not as bad as you would expect but I also noticed most of the people in the house and throughout were adults. There are an incredible amount of spaces specifically for kids which looked super cute. The volunteers were super sweet, adorably dressed and gave great directions. What an amazing view from start to finish. I had a smile from start to finish. One of our friends grabbed us hot cocoas while we waited in line to go into the house which was perfect! Admission this year is $8 or $7 will a non perishable food item which is a great deal! read more

We have driven from Nevada each year for the past seven years to be able to come to this beautiful house. It was kind of a tradition for us but unfortunately, this place will no longer be offering general admission. Very disappointing for us. Can't help but feel that this landmark will no longer hold a place in so many hearts. It was always a must see but now they will cater to private events. Too bad for those of us that enjoyed it each year. Apparently you must have reservations in one of the private events to gain access. Such a shame. read more

We came for the Miracle of a Million Lights event and it did not disappoint. We were only able to see the grounds outside because the line to get inside the house was way too long and we didn't want to wait. It was the last night of the season, and a Saturday, so we understood why it was so busy. Even so, it was well worth the $8pp admission for us (you can save $1 on admission with a non-perishable food item). There were plenty of activities available (live music, vintage trains, movie theater with popcorn and plenty of photo opportunities) with the admission price and a food and beverage (for purchase) stand as well. We recently had our wedding here, and it was the most magical day! The venue is so beautiful- we easily had 160 people there. We had a ceremony in one part of the garden, dinner in the other part, and then a live band in the gazebo for dancing. They have their own kitchen, and the food was amazing! It was also one less vendor to coordinate. The people who work there are all fantastic, and they were super accommodating with covid issues that made us reschedule 4 times. We've visited the "Christmas House" (as my family affectionately refers to the Victorian Belle) almost every year since my child was young. In years past, Santa and Mrs. Claus would sit in the living room to greet visitors and take pictures, s'mores could be made by the fire pit, crafts took over the top floor, delicious baked goods were available for purchase, Christmas magic flowed through the house and property, lovely staff would wander the halls to discuss the history of the property and share stories, and lights were on beautiful display in the courtyard. Slowly over the years, the experience continues to decline. This year, Santa was an extra $35 (in their outdoor building and no Mrs. Claus), no s'mores for years, no more baked goods, the crafts became coloring pages and 6ft folding table without staff making it magical, teens were scared of the top floor because a group was playing pool like it was their living room and it was not inviting, no staff members eager to share stories, light display has diminished to nothing more than a decorated neighborhood, and the magic is gone. We visited this year (2022) and I fear this marks the end of a family tradition. I've loved this place for many years, and will cherish our memories, and be thankful we stumbled across it a decade ago. I'm heartbroken to admit, I would not recommend as a Christmas experience. For $50 for four people, your family is sure to have a better experience, elsewhere. 2 stars because, if you love old properties and closed restaurant vibes, you may enjoy it. read more

The Victorian Belle is a mansion, built by the original owner, David Cole as a wedding gift (what a gift!) for his wife back in 1885. This home was one of the first homes in Portland to have running water, central heating, electricity and a windmill powered water pump. This mansion can be rented to hold weddings and events. My husband and I came to the Victorian Belle on a Friday evening (Dec 23, the last day of the event), 2 days before Christmas to check out The Miracle of a Million Lights (http://www.victorianbelle.com/the-miracle-of-a-million-lights.html). Admission is only $6 per adult (same $1 off admission with a non perishable food donation). I loved seeing all of the many light displays throughout the backyard (very large backyard, perfect for an outdoor wedding ceremony and/ or reception) and also the decorations inside the actual mansion. There was also a tent outside in the backyard with heat lamps, playing a movie on a projector screen. Horton Hears A Who was currently playing when we arrived and so we stayed to watch the rest of it (Dr. Seuess was a brilliant author). Small bags of popcorn ($1) and various hot drinks were being sold inside the tent. Inside, I really liked that each room was decorated differently and some were very creative. On the first floor was the gift shop. On the 2nd floor was a handful of decorated rooms and a few photo ops for children. I believe on this floor, children can take photos with a person dressed up as a ninja turtle. Right next to him was a Christmas tree decorated in all things ninja turtle. On the top floor was another photo op for children to take photos with another person dressed up (can't recall the mascot at this moment). There was also an arts and craft section for children to make their own ornament to take home and hang on their own tree. Restrooms are also available on all floors to use. I loved seeing the hardwood floors, antique furniture and clothing throughout this mansion. I was also surprised to see how kid friendly this mansion was in which you are able to touch everything. My husband and I have been on tours for historical homes and they were very specific on reminding everyone not to touch anything because the oils in our hands may ruin the original furniture, etc. This was definitely a wonderful evening and would love to come back if I happen to be in Portland again during the end of the year. read more

Wanted to like this a lot, but...Playing phone tag for over a week with someone, Bennett?, who would return the call and not leave a detailed msg confirming date and time was irritating. Reservation confirmed about 1-2 days before our date. The interior space is lovely. We managed to be upstairs in a room when no other parties were seated so it was lovely. There were 4 of us. One loves high tea and barely touched her food, saying she didn't like it. Another mentioned to Bennet that the scones would have been better warm and he pretty much said thank you for the info, no attempt to bring her some warm scones. The offering was plenty but not everything worth eating. Having high tea is about the experience and not much about the food since it is relatively inexpensive to make food for high tea. I would have enjoyed it a lot more were the bill not staggering for what we received. the website does not reflect the add-ons. A party of 4 had a service charge automatically added on and, if memory serves me, a surcharge for the staff was also added. Then an additional amount for being seated upstairs. It ended up $78 a person. For that amount, I expected a whole lot more. Service was friendly but ignored our request for hot water saying "I've brought you your warm water. " Also, one in our party is a bit challenged by the stairs and we did not notice a handicap entrance. This is the second high tea in recent months and I have sworn off them for awhile since I don't find them pampering nor relaxing. read more

It's been a tradition to visit this wonderful mansion for the Miracle of a Million Lights. This year was an absolute disappointment. Maybe 1/4 of the outside decor and lights. Always had so many lights in the trees, many figures in the yard, amazing bridge of lights with a flying star at the exit, a movie watching room, train with a conductor, employees dressed as elves and this year NON of the above. Figured we would get a several yearly traditional ornaments at the gift shop but nothing.... no gift shop. This year the price increased to $10. I was completely ok with the entrance fee as I knew the work and dedication that always was shown. With how much was taken away this year, I wouldn't even pay $5 to go in. After a 15 year tradition, this year sadly now is our last. All 4 of our party left in disbelief and sadness. Actually ruined our festive day that we were having. Miracle of maybe like.. 5000 lights? Seriously like half the lights this year then any other year. The rooms aren't themed at all this year, just a fake Christmas tree in each. There's no miniature train, there's no movie to stop in and watch. The top floor wasn't even open... Like what? Probably new ownership or something idk. It just sucked all around but somehow was more expensive... Basically like 10% as cool as every other year we've ever been. This was great fun to do for me and my group of four friends. Absolutely a delight. I have never toured the home before and what a huge bonus with all the incredible Christmas decorations and store at the end. I bought a gorgeous ornament in the store that was remarkable. The grounds had everything for kids and adults to enjoy. A MILLION lights, Santa, ornaments to decorate, face painting, hot chocolate and cider, letters to write to Santa and more. My only regret was that we should have purchased our tickets online before we arrived for a nice discount. The staff was very very welcoming too. Thank you for the fun memories and fun experience. I have been here twice now for their Afternoon Tea events. First at Christmas was really nice and lots of good food and pastries provided for the Tea. There were about six selections of Tea to choose from. I was there again for a Spring Tea and again we had nice food, 3 tea sandwiches- cucumber, egg salad and salmon and creme cheese. Scone and 3 small deserts. I chose the lord Bergamit first time and the Black Lavender this padtvtime and really enjoyed it. You must be vaccinated and show proof which was a plus for us. I was the maid of honor for my girlfriend whom got married here in July. Her wedding was beautiful! I was also there during the planning session and experienced the professionalism of Joe and Laura first hand. They are awesome and definitely know everything you need to know about a wedding, making the event planning so much more fun and the bride was not stressed at all! The food at Victorian Belle was all made in-house, and they were pretty good food. The staff was attentive, friendly, and polite. Everyone seems to be very happy working here, making it a comfortable environment for the guests. Parking is actually not bad, plenty of space on the street. The garden itself is GORGEOUS. if you are looking for a garden/victorian wedding, you won't be disappointed. My wedding was here at the end of February and it was perfect. I did not want a big wedding, I wanted to run off and elope with just a few close friends and family members. I was terrified of the idea of having to plan such a grand event. Our wedding included around 75 guests, which may not be big for some but it was for me. I found the belle after doing some Google searching and we just had to go and see it. The first tour was so detailed and Joe was so nice and welcoming, it was almost a right away decision for me. We looked at a couple other venues and finally took a second tour with my maid of honor who was as in love with it as I was, we booked it then and there. Everything was so simple! They set up a menu tasting after we picked out a catering option. We choose the Victorian Charm package and received so many compliments on the food. Chef Jeff was friendly, helpful, and so genuinely nice. There was a meeting to pick out linens, dishes, and all those other details and there were so many beautiful options available! My colors were red & turquoise and it was no problem picking things that fit my theme. We did not have any vendors deliver anything so I can't comment on that process! There was plenty of parking available! I had the gazebo flipped from the ceremony to the reception and it was done so quick and smooth. The guests enjoyed the house inbetween while the bar opened and everyone seemed to love to get to explore the house. We got so many compliments on this as well. Paperwork and payments throughout the whole process were simple and easy. Communication was great and they were both so helpful. I couldn't imagine doing all of this without the help of Joe & Laura! This venue may not be the perfect fit for everyone but I encourage you to check it out if you think it might! Also! The Miracle of a Million Lights during Christmas is so awesome and beautiful, every room is different and it is such a joy to visit. Christmas is my favorite holiday so I might be bias but the lights, having s'mores with Rudolph, and having cocoa while seeing a cool train set is pretty much the perfect holiday outing to me. The Belle exceeded all of our expectations! We wanted a local venue that was convenient for people to get to, had a beautiful landscape, would rent us tables/seating, and served great food. It's all about the food! Wow, were we stunned. The Belle is a great near-one stop shop. It has a fantastic setting with trees and flowers perfectly manicured around the property which helped alleviate our need to buy more flowers and decor, the house is in immaculate condition and feels like a luxurious walk through the early 1900's, the tables and linens that come standard were beautiful, and all of our guests said it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. As the bride, I must say I agree. After having looked around pretty extensively in Portland, the Belle was a great value and incredibly convenient. We had so much fun with the planning process, the sampling, and picking out linens/colors. And the day of, the staff was absolutely on top of it. I have been going to the Miracle of a Million Lights for decades. It is always one of our favorites. This year I wanted to take my 1year old granddaughter and two grandsons. I don't think I have EVER been so disappointed as I was tonight. They only had half the lights the normally do. I was so upset I would have left if my grandkids were not with me. The inside was just as disappointing. I'm told it's new owners but they should take note of previous years. Horrible experience and something that had become a tradition, I won't do again. read more

I have zero regrets or hesitations about having my reception of 289 guests at the Victorian Belle. Everyone enjoyed the venue so such. There was plenty of space for a ceremony, 29-30 tables, space for guest photos, a photo booth, 4 buffet lines, a dance floor, and more. The house was amazing and people really enjoyed the pool table area on the upper floor. As the bride, I had a roomy private area for outfit changes. Leading up to our wedding date, Joe and Jade answered all my questions and were very assuring that thing would go smoothly - they did not disappoint! I've been to Victorian Belle in its former existence as the Queen Anne Mansion. It was said that it took a million lights to adorn it for Christmas, and by the way it lit up the surrounding area when driving by, I'd say that a million is correct. A couple of Christmas parties I attended there were spectacular. There was room for a dance floor, but no band, so we did have a DJ. We were allowed to bring in our own caterers, and I believe they had no difficulty serving us on time and with beautiful table settings and delicious entrees. Wine and champagne (my favorite) flowed freely. What I thought was really the best part of having the "company prom" (more about that later) here was the existence of several small spots where groups of four or five could gather for conversation and rest up after dancing. I don't remember any problems with parking. We called it the "company prom" because we got quite dressed up with the ladies in cocktail attire and the gentleman in tuxes. The surroundings were such that it was very enjoyable to live up to the standards of the mansion. I loved shopping for the dresses I wore to the parties. After reading the various reviews here, I have no doubt that while the name has changed to Victorian Belle, and various other changes made, that booking a party or wedding here would be wonderful, and I feel confident in recommending the Victorian Belle as a wonderful place to hold an event due to attendance at events at the Queen Anne Mansion in the past. *Update * December 22, 2019 This year was rather disappointing. If we hadn't gone in the past, I might have been impressed, but this year failed in comparison. We showed up right at 6:00 and there was a long line down the sidewalk and around the corner. This is not a place you want to be when it's crowded so if you pull up and there is a line, I'd suggest go somewhere else. $10 for adults and $8 for kids. First we went into the house to get Santa pictures. Santa wasn't set up in the same place. We were told he was in the gazebo. I thought that might be good if they decorated it cute. Nope. The tree wasn't the beautifully decorated Victorian style tree we got two years ago. The Santa pics were $10 each and you can purchase them online later that night. The gazebo was lacking trains and snacks. Instead, they had crafts that not many kids were excited about. The only reason kids were doing it was because parents were directing them to. The snacks from last year moved to a tent outside and sold things like chili dogs and popcorn. This year they also had a tent with a movie playing. Why would I want to sit in the cold and watch a movie? The space the extra tents took up could have been used for light displays. After roaming the grounds and hoping to find some characters, which we didn't, we went inside to see the rest of the house. It was pretty but had less than our last visit. What a BEAUTY! My daughter and her new husband just recently got married at' The Belle'. What a gorgeous piece of property inside and out. The events and day were fairly well organized,and the Event Coordinator Jade, kept everything on-time. The food was very nice for an event of this size (~75+), and the whole place lit up for the evening of dancing and enjoying one another's company. I will say it wasn't without it's "learn from what happened" and see if that could be improved upon (a few logistics with cake plates needed,and having the aid of perhaps 1 more person instead of just the Event Coor.,and the Assistant)...but all in all...have you ever heard of a wedding starting on TIME???? I can't say enough amazing things about Victorian Belle and the awesome people who continue to make it amazing (Joe, Laura, chef, etc.) We got married at VB back in September and everything about it was magical. Things went smoothly and guests oooed and awwed at the built-in decor in the mansion and throughout the gardens. The venue was affordable, with great food and drink options! Also - tons of good energy- if you're into that sort of thing :) The owners and staff were incredibly accommodating, helpful, friendly, and funny! We had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful and was nicely decorated for the holidays in every room. The outside was a wonderland of lights. There were propane heaters all around the property to keep you warm. There were spaces for children to make ornaments and pet bunnies. There were snacks available. Try the 3-D glasses. The pair that I had turned all of the lights into hearts. It was amazing! The price was very reasonable. The hosts were very nice. OH this was really bad. If you went last year or any of the years, you are going to be let down. It is not the same and the change is NOT good. Where to start...it's like they didn't even try. Gift shop is awful, bare and like they threw it together. I spent so much money in there in the past. Litterally 100's. The staff looked sorrowful and lacked major cheer. The price doubled! They had some excuse that the mansion was damaged and the grounds so the had to modify. Then why in the world would you charge more!? WHAT A RIP OFF. The food is mediocre at best. Santa only on weekends? So don't you think you should lower the price for weekdays? This was a major dissapointment and will not be coming back!!! Lastly, reading the reivews, I was appalled/embarrassed to see an employee or someone affiliated to this event give themselves 5 stars!! (cringe face, insert meme here.) I absolutely feel like one of the best choices we made was to have our wedding at this venue. To begin with, it is STUNNING. All of our pictures turned out amazing from the beautiful scenery and all of our guests raved about how beautiful it was. Our wedding was also a huge blast. I had several people tell me it was the most fun wedding they'd ever been to. Part of this was the space, which allowed for a lot of movement and activities (exploring the amazing house, yard games, dancing, etc). Also, the staff was really incredible throughout the process. I attended the Victorian Belle's Christmas event Miracle of a Million Lights last night. I had the pleasure of singing Christmas songs and sharing my story Christmas the Stuff of Love. The most spectacular Extraordinary display of lights I've ever seen. The mansion itself was bedazzling outside but the grounds, the trees, the pillars, walkways, flowing fountain were beyond delightful. Many activities for kids & parents to enjoy aside from the visual joy I experienced from the lights alone - the atmosphere oozed Christmas spirit. Inside the mansion absolutely indescribable how every nook & cranny of the elegant opulent interior was decorated - no detail missed. I will definitely return it was an unforgettable evening. Victorian Belle is a gorgeous place! We got married two weeks ago and our guests continues to rave about how beautiful the venue was. It is such a romantic atmosphere and most people felt it was a hidden gem. You won't be disappointed with pictures at this place! Jessica (day of coordinator) and Joe (director) helped us from the beginning. They were both fantastic, not only at their job, but also very personable. We felt comfortable emailing them questions and they were quick to respond as well. Jessica made notes of every detail and even suggested a few ideas we didn't even think of. She was the sweetest and offered to help us in anyway possible. Their in house chef Jeff is AMAZING! His homemade croutons are one of the best we've ever had. It was perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Almost everything we tasted were so yummy, it made it difficult to decide what to serve at our wedding. Fantastic job!! Victorian Belle's entire staff went beyond our expectations, from making sure everything went smoothly, to the wait staff, and the bartender. What a major disappointment this year. I think that the mansion must have a new owner because this year's Holiday display was severely lacking from previous years. The lights were much less, no more decorated theme rooms, miniature train, kids theater, characters, smores, entertainment. They even blocked off the 3rd floor of the house. And they raised admission to $10! Sadly, I will not return again to this now poor holiday event. It's a shame because I usually look forward to it every year. read more
