Parking is minimal and most people just parallel where they can along the side. But the house itself is absolutely stunning. There is so much detail in the stained glass on every single door. Even the dust corners on the stairs are uniquely ornate. All three levels are completely decorated. And festive Christmas fixings are adorned everywhere you look. The house is so well managed, and it is so lovely to be able to actively enjoy a piece of history. The hostess was very flexible about changing our seats when we were too close to our other patrons. Personally, we were in the Winnie Holgate Room, which has creamy beige walls and blue accenting. It overlooks the courtyard and has very pleasant views. Foodwise, we got to trial some mushroom soup. It was so rich and tasty. It was concentrated, full bodied unami with a hint of herbs. Everything else was presented on a tiered serving stand. The cucumber cream cheese and salmon sandwiches were pretty basic. The smokiness of the salmon was muted. The caprese skewer had a nice tangy bite to it with just enough basil to give it some fragrance. Out of all the pastries, the peach scone was the best. There was just enough of the fruit pieces to give it some texture without overwhelming it. The accompanying jam and mascarpone were spot on. The cherry and chocolate scone was a little drier. And the fruit chunks were very large in ratio to the chocolate. It was not a complimentary combination. In regard to the tea, Smiths is always great quality. They have good full bodied flavors with low astringency. Overall, the food and tea were pretty decent. And this was indeed a unique experience in a historic location that not only serves high tea but also caters other events. (It's 10:30pm on Sunday and it's blasting through our apt right now, plus all the peoples yelling/partying). There needs to be a noise curfew, or some sort of regulation for the people who rent this space out. It's not fair to the rest of the community and surrounding neighborhoods.

We very easily could have been defeated by the situation, but the staff at Opal 28 always made us feel supported and positive that our event would be amazing! Even though people were working remotely and, I'm sure, dealing with their own stresses, there was never a lapse in time for communication and answers to any and all of my questions that came up over that year. Often times, my questions were met with so many thoughtful options and possibilities that it was clear the Opal 28 staff was a trusted team with a ton of experience! On the big day, the staff took all of the decorating and arranging into their own capable hands and off of mine and the venue looked even better than we imagined! I love the flow of the space, giving guests different areas to visit in both indoors and out. The food was impeccable and I should mention that in the time between booking the venue and having our wedding, we had gone totally vegan and wanted a plant-based menu. The chef came up with an entire list of possibilities and everyone was blown away that it was a totally vegan menu. Having the available apartments upstairs was also a huge help as we were able to add one for the night to use as a staging and changing area and place to store extra needed items. I can never thank the staff of Opal 28 enough for their care and professionalism and ability to keep everything positive and calm in the face of so many unknowns. They had the ceremony under the shade of a huge, beautiful tree. The "coordinator" had great control over the entire event from cuing every person, including the participants for the ceremony, DJ, caterers, etc. and that made everything seamless. She knew exactly what the bride and groom had wanted, in all aspects. Everything, everywhere was clean and tidy and overall it was such a phenomenal wedding. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ainsworth House & Gardens for any event.

They are directly across the street from one another. When you drive into the area there are signs for parking that are close the reception hall. Spacious enough for a mid sized event.

From the outside, it appears as if this beautiful church with 65-foot bell tower was plunked from some picturesque village and lovingly placed in the midst of our little town. I haven't noticed but heard some of the other guests mention that you can see it as you travel north on I-205 across the Abernethy bridge. The chapel itself seats around 200 guests and has an ADA accessible elevated area at the front. There is also a balcony so those who are video-taping the ceremony have an elevated vantage point. Downstairs there is a reception area for about 70-80 people complete with elevated stage, dance floor and a buffet area. The kitchen looks to be strictly used for beverage service and clean up as there was no oven or stove and only a small-ish fridge (this resulted in a 1-star deduction). Just off the seating area are 3 sets of double doors that lead to an uncovered patio area with outdoor speakers and, I can only assume, can also accommodate additional seating. Cobblestone paths from the patio lead to the Veiled Garden below. A gazebo and waterfall tucked into this natural setting make you forget for just a moment that you are less than 30 minutes from downtown Portland. I believe this was available strictly during the Chapel Open House and is not part of the amenities offered with the Chapel. Also downstairs was a generous sized bridal suite and groom's room. I believe the only restrooms were on this level as well.
