I guess you can say this is where many old arcade games go to finish out their days. It's fun to play the older outdated games...it brings back a lot of memories. Arcade games have changed so much over the years, so it's nice to be able to have access to them. All games take quarters and they do have a change machine. You can literally spend a few hours in here...just like the good ol' days for some of us. Moreover, there is a store where you can find a lot of older games for older consoles like the Wii, PS2, and Xbox360 to name a few. They have quite a few specials on older games as well. The store offers many other things as well other than playing or purchasing older games. They have gaming-type gifts and they do trades too. It's definitely worth a stop if you are a gamer, looking for a retro item and/or looking for a hard-to-find game or item for yourself or as a gift...or just want a trip down memory lane. On that note, I'm glad places like this exist to give new life to all of these games, etc. It's pretty cool! read more

My man wanted to check out this place mainly because he heard about the arcade and I rode along with him. The front housed everything video game-related from cables and consoles, to action figures, and of course, all the video games. But walk to the back right where the lights are dimmed and it becomes more noisy, boom...arcade. Lotsa pinball machines, old-school arcade machines, skeeball, air hockey, etc. We just wanted to check the place out and didn't play but this is a great place to settle a score hahaha. Also, it didn't appear that Saturday afternoon is a busy time as no one was in there playing. As we were leaving though, a father and son went back and I heard the token machine dispensing coins. The staff were super nice and know their stuff. Definitely wanna play in that arcade in the future. read more

great customer service, can tell their willing to help and answer whatever questions you have. i needed help trying to find something and they had a sale that had multiple stipulations so i was kinda confused as to how it worked and they were kind to explain and more than willing to. also, great sales as well. and even better, when you subscribe to their email/texts, they don't blow you up with them and just send one every so often which is cool cuz you're ok with receiving them bc they're not blowing your phone up acting desperate plus when work and ur everyday life consumes your time and before u know it, u get a text and your like oh yeah dang lemme check this out lol 5 stars hands down. great company read more

If you are a gamer or a geek of any kind, you will love Video Game Rescue. It's a walk down memory lane for anyone who has played video games over the last 30 years or so. From Xbox One to Atari 2600, this place keeps stock of almost any video game that you can think of and if they don't have it, Dustin would definitely love helping you track something down. They carry all kinds of consoles and even some of those newer dual or 3-in-1 consoles that have Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Sega. The last time I was in I saw the Donkey Kong Country Super Nintendo bundle! The same one that I had as a kid! There's also action figures (video game characters, TMNT, and even Nick shows like Aaah! Real Monsters) and memorabilia of all kinds, as well as DVDs and Blu-Rays from general movies to anime. There's even a stock of VHS tapes, if you're a collector. I've been a few times and each time that I go, I'm in here for at least an hour or so just browsing. It's hard not to take the entire store home with me. They do their best to stay affordable to customers, but still make a profit. I've found a few used games here, in perfect condition, that were cheaper than taking a trip to Gamestop. I bet it is the same for most of the wares too. The store's trade in mechanism is cool. They'll take just about anything - games, VHS tapes, consoles, toys, strategy guides, DVDs/Blu-Rays, decor and housewares that are geek/gaming related, etc. On my first trip over here, a guy was trading in a ton of VHS tapes with the likes of Dune, Labyrinth, E.T., Indiana Jones. I asked how the system worked and, like all other businesses, they have to make a profit. So they take what would be considered pop culture and try to give a fair trade-in value for the customer. Video Game Rescue has started hosting events, just like the rest of geek/gamer type stores around. However, they have a leg up on most of the stores in the area because they hold video game tournaments. The last place like that in the Cedar Hills area was Languild and that place closed down 10 years ago. There are Gamer Girl nights, Munchkin Demos, Settlers of Catan tournaments, pretty much anything you can think of or have an idea to do. If you're interested in all things geek, the store has its own weekly podcast also called Video Game Rescue. Dustin really knows his stuff, so if you're looking for that one game or just want to go browse, make sure to stop in and chat with him. read more

This place won the favor of my 7 year old Mario obsessed kiddo. Lots and LOTS of variety in used games. They have a pretty extensive testing of systems before trading in so I feel good about making a purchase at this local spot. They're super helpful and knowledgeable and can answer all your questions (if you're like me and know little about some of the older gaming systems around). I love the atmosphere of this place! The staff is very nice and took the time to help me choose between two games. Their Black Friday sale was really good, and I love how they post new stuff on their social media. Only reason why I can't give them 5 stars is because when I got home I realized one of the games I bought has a crack in the disc. I know it was an honest mistake, but in the future I'll probably check the discs before leaving the store. read more

This place is a cute and fun little spot to check out. The store isn't too huge but they definitely pack some variety in a small little store. I would advise staying away from the crane games in the back. Even after telling the attendant that the claw wasn't working, no refund was offered. I didn't ask for one but still would have been nice if they would have put up a sign and refunded me the cost of the play. read more

The place would be good if the employees knew what they were doing. The place is only good when those that have the ability to make decisions are there. They have a decent assortment of games but the main issue is the employee. There should be a hygiene standard for their employees cause they got one big dude there that probably hadn't showered in weeks. This store is nothing short of brilliant. The service here is fantastic and the owner as well as the employees really know a lot about games. I met the owner Destin and hung out with him for part of the day and had a great time! There is a full arcade here which is a rarity! You can also pay five dollars per hour to play any games and any systems that your heart desires. This is heaven for any video game or especially retro gamers. There are other retro game stores in Jacksonville but they cannot compete with the selection, price or honesty that this store offers its customers. The customer service here a second to none. We visited other video game stores in town in the customer service was nowhere near as good as a video game rescue. I highly recommend the store if you're a gamer. All the classic NES, SNES games, Genesis, Saturn, Xbox's, and Sony consoles make it an attraction all on its own. read more

The main problem I have with this place is the personal hygiene of the customers. One guy smelled so bad his terrible odor permeated the whole establishment. I wondered if he had ever showered in his life. Other customers were not much better. Another guy left his nasty food sitting out on a table. If the customers were less gross I'd probably bump up the review a couple stars. Aside from the customers it's a pretty neat joint. They have some cool games and pinball machines. Arcade room, which was why I came, had a decent selection, saw AvP in the images, disappointed it wasnt in the store at the time, but I wouldn't deduct points for that. This has to be the best Arcade in Jacksonville right now. Video Game Rescue is an AMAZING game shop and arcade all in one! My nephew and I were here last Friday and we spent 2 hours shopping and playing arcade games at VGR. We could have easily spent another hour there and still not have been bored. They have a Mrs. Pac-Man and they also have a Super Mario Pinball game, which we had never seen before. I was really impressed by the selection of consoles, controllers and games for sale. Of course, the arcade was almost too much fun. These guys have just about everything you can imagine and some rare items you may have not seen in 20+ years! I'm not entirely sure how I found VGR, possibly from someone posting on Facebook or one of my many random Google searches for more local places to shop - I tend to try and spend money on them instead of corporate america if I can. I liked their Facebook page and was invited to attened a Gamer Girl night that they hold every last Saturday of the month. I had a blast and got to meet some super cool people - especially Deanna & Dustin who own the place (and Briana cause she's totes cool too). I ended up attending my second Gamer Girl night as a vendor selling some of my geeky wares to guests that night. They don't just sell used video games, but have some really cool figures and other toys for sale too. Since I've been on the market for stocking up on some N64 games, this has been my big go-to place for what I'm looking for - they tend to have a better selection than that of Game Over!. We came here with my brother after he told us how awesome this place was. They have a huge selection of used games going all the way back to Atari and Nintendo. They have an old school arcade in the back in which we had a blast in. The staff was super friendly, the games were priced just right, and we received an extremely generous trade in credit for some used games we brought there...waaaayyyy more than game stop for sure. I called about two of the Fatal Frame games that I have for PS2 and was given an estimate. Thinking it would be fair decided to drive from the Northside back over there to let them look at the games. Both are in excellent condition with books. He offered me $12. Now I thought he meant a piece, but apparently not. That was for both. I understand the need to make money on your purchases but that was way out of bounds. I also have a Lady Death doll I was interested in getting rid of, but once he realized that I was not going to accept $6 for each game changed his mind. Not very professional at all. read more

Video Game Rescue is a retro game store coupled with a pretty impressive collection of pinball and arcade machines. My son and I like to seek out pinball whenever we can, and as of this writing, Video Game Rescue features no less than 6 tables (Judge Dredd, Demolition Man, South Park, TMNT, Super Mario and Starship Troopers), along with 5-10 arcade machines. You can also rent consoles and board games by the hour, and there seem to be a bunch of gaming meetups here - I only wish I didn't live so far away. Video Game Rescue is awesome! Go there! This place has the greatest selection I've *ever* seen in a video game store, and prices are always the best anywhere. It's to a point where I don't even debate where I'm going to go anymore if I want to pick up an old nostalgic game. That coupled with the awesome arcade and weekly events would be enough for a five star review in themselves, but it wouldn't be an honest review if I didn't say how absolutely incredible the staff is.
