As of December 2025, Vieques Air Link has increased their baggage charges to an outrageous level, much higher than Cape Air, $2/lb for anything over 25 lbs per person including everything (backpack, handbag, etc). So for San Juan to Culebra, we paid $129 per ticket and then an unexpected $83 each for baggage, so the real price was $212 each. One way. Ouch. When Cape Air cancelled our late afternoon flight, we should have stuck with our original Plan B to take the ferry from Ceiba, which would have saved us around $300 total for the two of us. read more

When I booked my Vieques vacation back in June, the ferry wasn't running for tourists on a consistent basis due to the pandemic. I booked a puddle jumper from San Juan Isla Grande SIG airport to the island for a decent round trip fee. I am TERRIFIED of flying even though I've been flying my entire life and my dad was even a pilot of a small aircraft when I was very young. I bought Dramamine just for this flight, y'all! I truly conquered my fear on this thing.........a bucket list adventure. I'll count these flights as extra island excursions, along with the biobay tour and defensive driving around wild horses and roosters throughout the island. I was remarkably calm, felt in control, and put at ease by the professionalism and humor of both pilots - to and from. The views were incredible and I got some awesome photos. For the first flight, we had an added bonus of dropping off two passengers in Culebra (check! Been there now!), which also meant one more landing and take-off (the worst parts for me). Whew! It was amazing. The flight out of Vieques really had me going! Why? Because I was called to the front of the plane and was seated in the co-pilot's chair. Oh Lord! The most terrified passenger on the plane was now in the cockpit? I announced myself as co-pilot and told everyone to remain calm. And, so did I. This was a once in a lifetime, bucket list, conquer fear experience for me. I'm so glad the ferry wasn't running when I booked this trip. Oh! I almost forgot the shoutout to Jesus at the SIG airport. He was so friendly, funny, and kind. He kept us engaged and laughing as they weighed our bags (and us), plus gave us a great recommendation to a nearby restaurant Gran Bahia that we thoroughly enjoyed while waiting for our flight over to Vieques. read more

I found Vieques Air Link to be very good. They use small planes to fly between Puerto Rico, Vieques and Culebra. I flew with them from SJU to Vieques and a return flight from Vieques to Isla Grande in San Juan. The planes are all small Cesnas or Britten-Norman Islanders. The islander plane is pretty small and seats around 7 plus the pilot. The Cessna is a little bigger and seats 8 with the pilot. These aren't the newest aircraft (in fact, they looked old). But, they seemed well maintained and the pilots were skilled. The flight is unlike most commercial air travel. They weigh you, figure out the best seat for weight distribution, and you enter along with the pilot. When everyone is at the gate, they might even leave early (that's what happened in San Juan). They allow free checked and carry on bags. With 4 people, they didn't charge us for any of our baggage. You get the bags right as you land and carry it off yourself. The flight is cool because you can really see the islands and mountains. Very beautiful. While it's a little intimidating if you haven't been in a small plane, it was a smooth flight. The staff are super friendly and provided excellent service -- particularly in Vieques. Highly recommended as a way to get to the islands. read more

In A Nutshell: -Vieques Air Link is the easiest, fastest way to travel to/from the beautiful island of Vieques. -Flights are very limited per day, along w/ the seating. -You'll board a dual prop, 8 seater (if I remember correctly) plane, which takes only 20-25 minutes to go between the islands. -Make sure you book early and in advance, otherwise you'll have to take the ferry, which I hear is very unreliable and SLOW. -Enjoy the short flight and the awesome views (see pics below). Well, hello b*tches! In case you are wondering how I managed to get us from San Juan to Vieques (I know you are worried about me... all 2 of you... you know who you are), VAL carried us. I have to tell you a short story here (don't I always do?)... My man is the most paranoid muthaf*cker on the planet. I, on the other hand, do not care even if there is a mortar shelling going on 10 feet away from me. His paranoia stems from growing up waspy in the Hamptons. My nonchalance stems from growing up in war ravaged Congo. So yeah, unless you are losing a limb or life, your fears do not penetrate my mind and ears. But, you see, I love this man to pieces. I can easily put up with his paranoia because of this stupid thing called love. Normally, I wouldn't. But there are times when his paranoia gets out of control. It is almost impossible to placate him. Why am I telling this story? Because we took an 8-seater plane to Vieques. Considering his paranoia, I did not tell him before hand that we will be taking a small plane, that only God knows when it was deemed fit to fly. He would have had a conniption even before we left Chicago. So, I did not tell him. Instead I told him we are flying from San Juan to Vieques and it is a short flight. He was under the impression it will be one of those small connecting flights. We get to San Juan, take a taxi to the Isla Grande airport, and enter what looks like a bus terminal. Really? This is an airport? Well, I guess small planes don't need big airports. This is where my man finally realized we are flying a small plane. I spent the next 45 minutes trying to convince him it will be ok and our flight will not crash in the ocean. I received help from one of the pilots, the checking agent (who was doing shots of vodka in between our conversation... how f*cking cool is that?... wait, maybe not), and every other passenger in the terminal (I shouldn't call it a terminal, it is more like a waiting area, but what the hell?). I was the most patient person on this planet for that 45 minutes. You see, as I mentioned earlier, there is this stupid thing called love that makes you do things you never knew you are capable of. Finally, after about an hour, it was time to board. I helped the checking agent load our bags, because I was worried he may not be doing it right (remember, he was doing shots of vodka earlier). Our pilot was about 70 years old. The coolest pilot on the planet. I told him my man is nervous and tense. He came over and talked to my man, told him everything will be ok, and he has been flying this plane for many years without an incident. All seems well! We are seated right behind the pilot, take off, and I got to observe all the controls on the flight. Cool! That is when I notice the display saying ALERT ALERT in red. Holy muthaf*cking hell. What is it? Are we going to crash? Tell me we are not crashing in this possibly shark-infested water. Oh my gawd!!! I am dead. My man is going to kill if he sees this ALERT sign flashing. Luckily, it was nothing to be worried about. The pilot assured us the sign has been going off for a while and it is a fault with the display board. Phew!! We landed after 25 minutes of what seemed to be the most beautiful flight ride I have taken. We flew over the El Yunque rainforest and crossed the Atlantic. Breathtaking and incredible views. The flight flies low enough for you to see everything clearly. Landing was a piece of cake. Smoothest landing ever. Upon exiting, we were greeted by the pilot's dog who was waiting on the runway for him. How cute is that? A dog on the runway! I unloaded our bags and we went on our way. My man was extremely thankful to the pilot and they even took a picture together. After 3 days in Vieques, we flew the same flight back to San Juan with the same pilot. He remembered us... well, he remembered my man because of his paranoid antics. It was the best flight trip we took. I recommend VAL to anyone wanting to fly outside of San Juan to any of the nearby islands. They offer services from multiple airports and have a flexible schedule. Finally... my man was appreciative of my patience, and I am thankful he listened to me (about damn time!). read more

Very nice views and relaxing as we saw the coastline of Puerto Rico. We got charged some overage charges which were to be expected since my bag was an insane 43 lbs. I took the Air Link from San Juan to Vieques because it was hella faster than the ferry, but it was first and last time probably ever aboard. Prior to getting on I was warned that the plane shakes a little bit, but that was an extreme understatement. I am a very apprehensive flyer and have a fear of airplanes and this didn't make it any better. The plane shook continiously and on several occassions I became very concerned. Who knows, maybe for other people who are used to it or have the stomach for it, they wont mind, but it drove me nuts. the flight was relatively short and on the way back to San Juan I opted to take the ferry which was about an hour and half, but it was smooth sailing. read more

WE booked a trip prior to the corona virus pandemic and had to cancel do to the lock downs and restrictions we were told we would receive a credit for future travel. we just tried to re book our trip and were told that our credits were expired. This company made no exception due to the extenuating circumstances with the virus. WE WILL NEVER USE THIS AIRLINE AGAIN Also there is currently a class action case against them for wrongfully withholding refunds and offering credits instead and in addition only giving people 1 year to use those credits. If you were taken advantage of in this situation we encourage you to familiarize yourself with upcoming cases against this company due to their lack of respect for their customers and keeping money that doesnt rightly belong to them especially when our tax dollars have bailed them out already. read more

It was a quick check in at the San Juan Airport, short wait at the waiting room, and we were escorted to the plane. Our luggage were put in the trunk and we sat right behind the pilot. Within 25 minutes we were getting ready to land. After 5 days on the island, we returned via VAL. Our flight seemed even shorter than the coming in flight. IF I COULD GIVE below zero to this review, I WOULD. We are a group of 4 friends and we bought the tickets 1 month in advance to travel to Vieques. THEY SOLD OUR TICKETS TO OTHER PEOPLE AND TOLD US THAT THE PLANE HAS TAKEN OFF, however it was still there. Their staff was very rude and inappropriate. They never sent us an email or gave us a call, they just used our tickets and resold it. The flight was supposed to take off at 10:30 am and they were "taking off" at 10:20 AM. Terrible service. Our flight got canceled. Everyone else (other airline) is able to fly their customer back to ceiba. After the flight got canceled, no transportation provided to ferry, no apology, nothing. They don't care about their customer. If your flight got canceled and they will just leave you on V island. They don't care. For us, the situation got very bad. Our car was parked at the airport and the airport closed after 7pm. We managed to get to the ferry back to Ceiba (by asking locals to get us a ride) but our car was locked in the airport. we used this service to return from Vieques to San Juan. Unlike others who have reviewed this we already found out the hard way about extra baggage and the cost so we were better prepared for the sticker shock of checking a bag (like almost as much as the flight :-( ) With that being said here are our tips and observations. * The plane we flew on was small - like fits 8 people total including the pilot and co-pilot. No food or drinks in the plane - but hey, its like a 15 minute flight * Check in is painful - this isn't specific to Vieques Air link - its that way with all the companies that fly here. They have to weigh each individual bag and you which takes a ton of time - especially since the you a damn hand calculator do do all the work - soooo, be prepared and don't arrive at the last minute. * If you are a W guest you can use the lounge but you can't really because its in a different building and once you check in you are stuck in a 3rd world waiting room for your flight. I've read other reviews that said the lounge wasn't opened when they were checking in. * Extra bags - very expensive you pay by the pound! What burns my ass is that both your 'checked' bags and your carry on's all end up in the same cargo area on the plane. So basically the checked bag thing is a major scam~ But they are all like this so just roll with it. We should of bought a ticket for our bags because it would of been cheaper than checking them in. * This is a BIG one - When you arrive at SJU you arrive on the tarmac and are given your bags. You are outside the airport at this time and you have to go through security AGAIN. If its a cruise ship kinda day this will take you 1-2 hours depending on what airline you are on, checking your bags in, etc. etc. etc. You've been warned :-) read more

From what I've heard about the ferry (3 hour wait times, sometimes not running at all) we decided to fly to Vieques. The flight from Isla Grande was $66 per person one way (much cheaper than from the International airport) and the taxi from our hotel in Ocean Park/Condado was $20. Since I guess we were on "island time" each of our flights ran a little late, the first one about 30 minutes. This was a fun experience, I had never been on a plane that small, we were on a 10-passenger Cessna. You could see the pilot and they gave your seat number as you were waiting on the tarmac to get on the plane. Since you are not flying at a high altitude, you get a close look at all the scenic beauty that is Puerto Rico. One thing they could do to make things easier would be to have a little more information on their website in the case of baggage weights/fees. The baggage limit is 30 pounds per person (but they don't have on their website that it includes your carry on bag and they charge $1/per pound over 30 pounds) so we ended up paying $20 extra for baggage (each way). Also I never got a confirmation email or number that I could go back to the website to look at my reservation. read more

I was nervous about booking with this company in the first place, given all of the horror stories I had read on websites like Travel Advisor from stranded and ripped-off passengers, and given the bad experiences I had on the phone with them the first time (I had to call several times before anyone picked up, and then when someone finally did they were very rude. Never a good sign w/r/t an airline.) Still, flying with VAL seemed like my best option among the very few ways to get to Vieques, so I took a chance and went for it. Big mistake. I was supposed to come to Vieques via San Juan in February, but a huge blizzard hit NY so I had to had to call to reschedule. Once again I was disturbed by their lack of professionalism over the phone: The first person to pick up simply blurted out a quick "Hola" and didn't bother to identify themselves or the company. When I stated my identity and purpose for calling, they began passing me off to several clueless people before finally connecting me to a lady on the phone who supposedly took my information down and merely responded with, "Okay." Since the exchange had not exactly instilled me with much confidence, I insisted that she read me back the information that she wrote down, just to make sure everything was right. We reviewed the times, dates, passenger names and confirmation number until I was satisfied. Fast forward to last week. Our flight getting to Vieques was just fine. We arrived a good hour and a half early, since I wanted to leave enough cushion time to account for possible check-in delays, and after a few minutes of waiting, the young man at the counter took our IDs and our baggage and gave us our round-trip tickets. He made a big deal out of stressing that we must not lose our return tickets because otherwise we would have to buy new ones. This seemed a bit silly to me, since they already had all our booking info on paper and could reference it at anytime, but rules are rules and I'm a responsible person, so I stored the tickets in a safe place and moved on. We got to Vieques safe, sound, and on time. Wonderful! Now fast forward again to today, when I arrived at the Vieques airport at 2:15 for our flight back to San Juan at 3. The guy at the counter took our tickets and then said that our flight left at 2. Shocked at this news, I assured him that we were supposed to leave at 3, but he disagreed and said that his schedule tells him 2. The tickets, of course, don't have a time listed on them anywhere, so it was essentially my word against his. Now I am stuck here at the airport for the next couple of hours, waiting for an available flight and feeling ripped off, angry and bitter over this experience. Unless this airline gets its act together, starts teaching its booking agents some telephone etiquitte, and implements some kind of a transparent reservation system with email confirmations, I will not give them my business again. I will also not recommend them to anyone else. Fly with VAL at your own risk! P.S. A VAL pilot just overheard me complaining about this whole mess, and he was sympathetic, telling me that he's encountered a lot of other stranded passengers who've run into similar problems with this airline. You might be able to hop on some fancy and more expensive planes from Luis Munoz Marin Intl Airport, but if you want adventure---hop on a Vieques Air Link plane from Isla Grande Airport (http://www.yelp.com/biz/aeropuerto-isla-grande-san-juan). These planes are small---just a step above a Cesna---so there's no flight attendant, peanuts, or beer options. The pilot will be setting practically on your lap. In fact, I saw one passenger score a seat next to the pilot! I managed a seat behind the pilot, so when I wasn't enamored by the blue & green beauty out the window, I studied the many gauges of the instrument panel. Oh, and if you like number-crunching, I just think this option is mathematically better than taking a ferry from Fajardo. I mean, you don't have to worry about the 1hr trip to Fajardo (via Taxi?). You also don't have to gamble on sketchy ferry service as well. My time is pricey, and I'd rather not waste it---that's why we flew over. And with the 30min flight, you are in the the beautiful island of Vieques in no time. read more

There are only two ways to get to Vieques from Puerto Rico: a one-hour ferry from Fajardo or a 20-minute flight from San Juan via one of the teeny prop planes (Cape Air, VAL, and some others). These flights cost $90 one way, whereas the ferry costs $2, BUT I hear it'll cost something in the area of $40+ to hail a cab from SJU to Fajardo. For the sake of simplifying my life and getting to the gorgeous Vieques beaches faster, I chose VAL. I had read some horror stories online about VAL's resolute refusals to allow passengers to board their return flights if they lost their boarding passes, so I obsessively checked on my boarding pass every time I came back to my hotel room. Also, on our return flight to SJU, our VAL flight was 45 minutes late--an extremely tense situation considering we had a connecting flight out of SJU. Due to VAL's late departure, we just barely made our connecting flight, so a word of advice: don't just pad your SJU layover by an hour and a half...think 2 hours or 2.5 hours. You'll be grateful for the extra time should the VAL operators decide to "take it easy" that day. That said, once you're in the air, the ride's kind of a thrill. It's just you and 4-5 other passengers cruising under the clouds in a tiny prop plane. I was terrified when we first took off, but now I think I feel safer being so close to the ground--it's almost like you're hang gliding! In fact, the most truly terrifying part of my VAL experience is when the kind pilot let my little sister sit next to him in the copilot's seat, and she spent the next 20 minutes bellowing "READY FOR TAKEOFF!" and pretending to steer the airplane, much to all the passenger's consternation (by the way, she's 24). Next time we go on vacation, I'm going to make her wear a sign that reads "Do not put me anywhere near the controls." In summary: be prepared--keep all of your boarding passes on hand, and give yourself plenty of time for connections. Remember that VAL is not Jet Blue or Continental; customer service is kind of a slipshod affair. But hey, it's Vieques. Just be smart and have a little faith. read more

Others may have issues with VAL where I have none. I decided to fly round-trip since it is the cheapest, quickest way to Culebra. Cab to Fajardo-$85 + waiting on line for the ferry (residents of Culebra are given first dibs and the ferry does sell out) + ticket on ferry-$2 + 1.5 hour ferry ride....versus cab from SJU to Isla Grande-$20 + VAL ticket-$65. I booked a flight to SJU and cabbed it over to Isla Grande...the teeny-tiny airport that could. It was akin to walking into a bus station--a couple of rows of orange molded chairs bolted to the ground, 2 vending machines and...OH! A BAR! YAY! Basically, the exact same bar my grandfather had in his basement, but a bar nonetheless. I told the counter dude my name, he weighed all my shit and he advised me to hang out til my plane was ready to go. I had a couple of beers, then our names were called out and we lined up kindergarten style to get on the plane. I booked online so I never had a ticket, or a boarding pass to lose. Maybe because I booked each ticket as a one-way? Don't know but it was easy-peasy. I arrived 15 minutes early for my return to trip SJU. We stopped in Vieques so they could put me in another plane where I got to ride co-pilot. Although my flight was flawless, I left plenty of time both ways to navigate airports and account for delays. $88 round trip to Cuelbra. The flights left on time. We did make an what I considered an unplanned stop at Vieques to drop of 2 other passengers prior to landing at Cuelbra, but I actually enjoyed it since it felt like an air tour of both islands. The views are breathtaking although I was a bit anxious given the size of the plane. Our plane could fit 8 people max (including the pilots). We flew out of Cieba since the early flights from San Juan and Isla Grande were already booked. Cieba airport is no frills, but was super easy to fly in and out of. The hardest part is the drive from San Juan which is about 55 minutes, but it gave us a chance to see the east side of Puerto Rico. The staff was professional and courteous. I would recommend using this airlines if you don't want to deal with the fuss of the ferry. After reading numerous arduous stories about ferry experiences, I decided it would be best to fly and avoid the ferry despite the cost. Time while on vacation is quite valuable! read more

**I read online that this airline was recently taken over by new management, so a lot of the older reviews proved to be no longer applicable** This airline is now a little more modern based on what I read in older reviews on this website. We booked online no problem. We got modern printed boarding passes at check-in. We did NOT get all our boarding passes at once upon the first check-in and have to safeguard our returning boarding passes. So they operate like a modern airline now. Check the website for baggage weight restrictions. We were over the limit and were prepared to pay out of pocket for it. However, both desk agents on both legs of the trip told us not to worry about it. That was a nice surprise. Both of our trips were on older model Cessna Grand Caravans with Cargo Pod (single engine turbo prop). They had about 12 passengers seats. Super small, but actual flight time was only about 20 minutes and we only a few thousand feet in the air. Our very observant 3 yr old daughter did fine so I would expect most adults would too. We flew from San Juan Isla Grande to Vieques, which was much cheaper than SJU (probably due to huge landing fees at a busy international airport vs this tiny airport in the middle of a shipping yard). The reason they get 3 stars instead of 4 is for overall hospitality. At no point did any crew/staff/pilot smile, say thank you, say welcome or generally make you feel like they appreciated your business (or existence). With that said, they were not rude and as mentioned above they purposely overlooked the heavy suitcase fees. Safety also seemed to be important, which is always the #1 thing you should look for in an airline. Despite the three stars, I would highly recommend them for local PR travel, just don't expect a welcome wagon. read more

Trying to book flights for honeymoon - Poor Service - Put on hold for 20 minutes, hung up on 2x, now no one picking up the phone I have been trying to book a flight reservations for my honeymoon next week and have been at the mercy of their very rude reservation representative. She first put me on hold for no reason. After 10 minutes I called back and she hung up on me. I called back again and she said that she can't help me if I don't stop hanging up on her and then she hung up on me again. I've called back about 5x since. The current call has been ringing for 10 minutes. How can they employ someone like this? I'm shocked and saddened by the level of service. I would give this airline negative stars if I could. My husband and I had a wonderful trip in Vieques. We arrived at the tiny airport a couple hours ahead so that we'd have plenty of time to get ready for boarding, but even when the time came for our flight to take off, there was no direction from the crew as to why there was a delay. After an hour or so past the time our flight was supposed to take off, they THEN tell us that there is a faulty wheel that needs repair. By then, people who have connecting flights to make were getting extremely anxious. Our flight ended up leaving 3 hours past the scheduled time and caused us to miss our connecting flight as well as several others'. There was no direct flight to our hometown for at least a couple of days after that. We ended up having to book a new flight that had us waiting starved and freezing in a 10 hour layover overnight. They cost us a day and several hundred dollars, and when I emailed them about this as it is because of their failure to maintain their aircraft in operable condition, heard NOTHING back. I followed up after patiently waiting for several weeks, got a confirmation email and everything, but NO RESPONSE. They simply do not care about the customers. It was an absolute nightmare that really ruined what was otherwise an excellent trip. Vieques is a beautiful island but the businesses need to operate at a more professional level; it seemed that every local I met in Vieques seemed very disinterested in helping their customers and almost considered them a nuisance, which I can understand as it is a town full of all range of tourists. But if they live in a town that depends heavily on tourism, that kind of indifference isn't going to help it prosper. read more

Flew VAL from Isla Grande to Vieques. Terrific experience and a great view to boot. Arrived early from SJU -$19 + tip cab ride and you still save quite a bit for a couple out of flying from SJU. We were able to fly standby. The plain is a singel engine Cessine 208 - 10 seater including the pilot. There is no fooling around with weight and its distribution on the plane. Check-in staff will ask you your weight and weight all oyur luggage. Though we were over the 25 lb llimit each,we were not charged a fee. FYI - us heavier weights sit more mid-cabing, thinner folks towards the front. Take-off was on-time and smooth. The view all the way to Vieques is spectacular!. You fly over the beached and along the mainland coast before cutting over to Vieques- total flight time about 20 minutes - not enough time to get worried. Vieques staff on the return leg was very professional as well. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. As mentioned above, if time is not of the essence, hop the cab and fly from Isla Grande instead of SJU and have enough left over to spend on Vieques. read more

We flew VAL in December 2009 and more recently in December of 2011 and we have not experienced problems on either occasion. We went over the weight limit when we were leaving (we expected that since we were packing many bottles of PR's finest rum) but the cost was minimal (it's per pound - I think our total was under $10). And really, to bring back the vast quantity of liquid gold that we were, it was worth it! :) The flight itself is just gorgeous - it's the kind of flight that makes you realize why people aspire to become pilots. Sent me to Culebra and my luggage to Vieques. While they brought the bag back to me on the next available flight, there was never an apology from anyone from the airline. I feel bad leaving this review because the effort to get my bag back was really all they could have done for me at the time after a reasonable mistake and I received it about an hour and a half later, but when you are trying for a quick weekend and the staff is quoting Bobby Darren songs (was seriously told "Don't worry, be happy") I feel I should warn travelers that they should keep their bags in sight at all times before the flight. read more

Nice folks/good flight. I think it's silly that they say you have to be at the counter 1.5 hours before your flight or you won't be let on. I walked up an hour before and they were still checking people in. Husband had gone to grab our bags from our connecting flight, and they were happy to wait. I think we ended up checking in about 40 mins prior. It was definitely a rush though to get bags and run over to the other terminal. Worst air company. Small and fucking trash. We booked flight through its website and we didn't receive any email confirmation or ticket information. When we get to the airport for check in, the agent told us the check in process was already closed because we should check in 1 hour before our plane leave. But we didn't even know this policy. i highly recommend air travel between the islands rather than the boat. #1, for the boat, you need to get there an hour before to ensure you get a seat whereas when you fly, 30 minutes prior is find. #2: (since this is puerto rico, we're talking about) the boat leaves on average 1 hour late and the flights leave on average 15 minutes late. #3, boat is an uncomfortable 90 minutes and the airplane is a very picturesque, beautiful and comfortable 15 minute flight. boat is basically free ($2)while airplane tix range from $30 to $100 (if you go all the way from San Juan airport). worth it. hilarious thing is that it's exactly like any other airline except more miniature. they have a tiny little airport (with a surprisingly good coffee stand), tiny little check-in counter where they take and weigh your luggage (do NOT bring over 30 pounds because they charge you PER POUND after that), tiny planes... but they have baggage handlers, the pilots where suits and stripes, air traffic control and the whole 9 yards. the best way to get between islands. read more

We took the flights from Ceiba to Vieques and back. Reservations were super easy, just go online the day before (for 2 ppl) and click away. Reservation numbers weren't even needed at the airport. Staff knew who to get for each flight. There were only 12 max per plane! We might have left 5-10 minutes later than planned, but we weren't in a rush. The ten minute ride was mostly smooth and extremely beautiful. The flights also spared us from throwing up on the Fajardo ferry we might or might not have even gotten on. The only caveat is make sure you know where the Ceiba airport is (exit 2 on route 53). read more

Things weren't looking up at first. The desk at the San Juan airport was empty. We had arrived exactly 90 minutes before our flight. With my printed ticket confirmation in hand, would we become the next in a line of apparently many disapppointed customers? Nope! After explaining to us briefly a mixup about our plane- apparently someone had told them we wouldn't make the flight, WTF???- they brought the plane back and got us to Vieques on time. Irving was fun and beyond helpful...alarmingly friendly! He brought us maps of Puerto Rico and Vieques and tried to give us all this great advice on where to go and what to do. If you want to fly them, and I think you should, I would just advise that you stay in contact with them as best as you can and follow their protocol about getting there early. Call them the day before and confirm your travel plans. Call them as SOON as you land! Then, you will likely be welcomed onto their fun little turboprop for a wild ride through the sky (not for the faint of heart)! read more

Pleasant experience flying from Ceiba to Vieques for a day trip. Arrived about 45 minutes before departure although 30 minutes before would have been more than enough time. Our bags each got weighed as did we to make sure they could balance the weight on the plane. While sitting in the waiting area they called our destination and then proceeded to call passengers by name. We brought our passports, but did not need them. Very laid back. We were instructed on where to sit during each flight and it was a short 10 minute flight from Ceiba to Vieques. Smooth flight both times in a 10 seater. Parking was right at the airport in Ceiba where we paid under $7 for the day. Great experience that we would do again. read more

Quick and convenient way to get from San Juan to Vieques and back! On our way from San Juan to Vieques there was a large storm cloud looming over Vieques island and it started to rain while we were in the sky. Our friendly and competent pilot took a few tries at landing us but eventually decided to circle back and land in a nearby airport where we waited for a few minutes for the storm to subside. In our little 10 seater (2 pilot seats, 8 passenger seats) plane, I could tell that the other passengers like myself were very grateful the pilot decided safety came first. In the end, we were able to land safely in Vieques with little to no delay. Thank you VAL! read more

Cheap flights. Somewhat disorganized, but very nice staff. Once, we showed up an hour before our flight, they told us our flight was delayed and waived our bag fees, then we sat down for 5 minutes and the guy called us over and put us on a plane 45 minutes early. Another time, they told us our bags were going to be bumped to a later flight, and when I went to grab something out of it that I needed, they told me my bags had actually been sent on an earlier plane and were waiting for us at our destination. So, really, anything goes. But, if you're going to Vieques or Culebra, definitely check them out. read more

Beautiful view from sky cheap fast on time just perfect

If you are the type of person that would like to know when your flight will leave and appreciate being informed of any delays, don't fly Vieques Air Link. The time on your ticket means nothing and there is no communication about delays at all. If you ask someone about the status of the flight, they say "15 minutes" no matter how long it will actually be. We left an hour and 15 minutes late on the way over and 25 minutes late on the way back. I would not normally care that much, but we almost missed our connecting flight from San Juan. In short, plan on being late if you fly VAL. If we ever have the opportunity to come back to Vieques, we'll plan a very long layover on the way back or fly Cape Air. That said, the plane ride is a great adventure in every sense of the word and everyone was courteous. The planes' interior showed significant signs of wear and tear, but we felt safe in the air. The pilots were really nice and landed the planes perfectly. More communication and this would be a 4-star review. We appreciate that VAL is locally owned, and we deliberately chose to fly this airline because of that. We hope that the communication issues will be addressed to keep this company going with all the competition from Cape Air. read more
