visiting some friends in Eugene, I saw this on the way into town, what? A shop/restaurant dedicated to braggot? that's brave. Well, my local friends were gonna try to play Bingo at 8, so now that was in our minds, sounds fun with a pint or two. We arrived after 8, place was packed--we barely got a seat. Sadly, we couldn't participate in Bingo as we had to sit in more of the restaurant/bar area. When I say had to, it was totally fine with me, I just thought Bingo seemed fun and the hosts were real characters - wearing a viking helmet and so on. Randy was our bartender with support from a couple others - he was friendly and told me more about Braggot, it's not the thick, honey grog I thought, it's simply beer made with honey or that's what he said. For food, most of us took advantage of the slice and salad special for $7. It was a great value. We just had the one beer, weren't too keen on the honeyish beer. New favorite brunch place! We went there on Sunday and let me tell you -- yum! We had the French toast and the breakfast skillet. Both were delicious and we cleaned our plates. Decent prices as well and I loved their coffee -- it's hard to find good coffee in town (I'm more old school and don't like these fancy pants roasts, just a nice French toast will do). Yum! Just went this morning for brunch. $3 mimosa (I watched it get made--there was a healthy amount of champagne in there!) was legit. I also got the breakfast focaccia. It's a large, rectangular piece of focaccia baked with cheese, covered in bacon, an egg over easy, and bechamel sauce. I think it needed a second egg and maybe herbs in the bread? It just felt like it was missing one little piece. My friend got the quiche; it was a HUGE piece for a very reasonable price, and my other friend got the breakfast skillet which he loved (though the portion seemed a bit small.) Overall, we had a very nice time. I wanted it to make my mouth water; it didn't, but was still yummy. I probably won't order the focaccia again, but I will definitely go back. This is one of our favorite places to go on for a casual beer and food. The food is excellent, I especially love their pizza that has goat cheese, sausages, and mushrooms. I love their shrub drinks when I don't want alcohol, and I also like their mead options when I want a sweet shot in addition to whatever else I'm drinking. We've never had an issue getting a table last minute, and they have a number of tables outside. The interior is fun with the wood accents and many plants. read more

Love this new neighborhood spot! Very personable, awesome selection of beers. The imperial stout (ragnarok) was off the chain!! There is a server who takes orders at the counter. I always thought she was very rude. She never makes small talks with me or greets to me. One day she did it again and was curt with me, and I tried to talk myself into thinking that she just had a bad day. But one minute later when my friend arrived, she was super nice to him and started making suggestions about all the drinks they have. I've had two menu items here: the Caesar Salad and their house - made cauliflower crust (gluten free) pizza. The salad wasn't bad, but not prepared the way I prefer my Caesar dressing to be--garlicky! So I wouldn't order it again. As far as their homemade cauliflower crust pizza, definitely a flop. Until they can perfect that paper-thin soggy crust, they ought to serve Udo's gluten-free crust. It's a no - return for me. read more

Nice place to get a flight of beer / cider and a small personal pizza with friends. Space is wide open with tall ceiling. Great friendly staff. Selection of beer was limited but sufficient. There is an absence of interior decor. Lots of wasted wall space that local artist would love to display on consignment. Otherwise, I'm glad this place is nearer than the Beer Garden. Good food but poor service. We had to wait 45 minutes for a regular pepperoni pizza while everyone else around us got their pizzas quickly. Even our other friends who order after us received their pizza 20 minutes before us. My friend says that it was probably because we didn't tip (even though you order at the counter...), so they purposely made our pizza last. Actually, this happened to me last time I came, at the time I just thought something happened in the kitchen, but now it has become a pattern. Is this something that happens in Eugene? In any case, I can't support an institution that allows this kind of behavior among the staff. I'd advise the management to correct this behavior immediately. read more

I thought I had already reviewed this, but YELP says I should. The beers are Braggots which are partly brewed with honey somehow but, don't worry, they Are Not Sweet! If beer isn't your thing they also have a bar with some nice rotating, not to complicated but well thought out and tasty specialty cocktails. The atmosphere and food have both been evolving since they opened, so if you haven't been in awhile, I say, go back now! They are working on improving the sound baffling and the menu is ever evolving. They still have the pizzas they started with, but I also like the potato skins and The venison/pork burger (available in several renditions). Staff is super friendly and happy to answer questions about braggots. You order at the counter, and they give you a number and bring your food. There are water/napkin/tableware/bussing stations in both rooms, so it's kind of DIY in that respect, just FYI. (Haha get it FYI, DIY?). One of the owners is often on site which I always think makes a difference in generally keeping the bar higher in places. They have a number of "fun" nights like trivia, bingo, pub talks, occasional fundraisers (which often have music). A nice addition to south Eugene! The pizza is delicious and comes out quickly, even when the place is slammed. They only pour their own beer or "braggot" which is beer with honey added to the brewing process. Contrary to popular belief, "braggot" is NOT like mead or honey wine. It's often very hoppy like the best IPA you've ever had. Some are barrel aged, some are Belgian style. I look forward to having a full bar option soon, as I am not usually a beer drinker (although my husband is). And, I wish they would have more outdoor seating in the summertime! We met a large group of friends for a wedding celebration here. The staff did a wonderful job accommodating our group, including the young kids running about. The braggot style beers were unique and delicious. I love the incorporation of different teas and extracts to accentuate the subtle flavors of different honeys used in the fermentation. The food was good as well, definitely made in house and much better than your average brew-pub fare. I also liked the board and card game selection available for guests... have not seen Stratego since I was a kid. We will definitely be back! read more

Have tried it 3x since their opening. We won't go back. The counter service is apathetic, lackadaisical. Food is so-so; the pizza is floppy-crusted, like a saltine that drowned. Also, bring your earplugs unless you want to go deaf by your 40's. Then we tried the b'fast once, 9am. I've seen slugs move faster than this gal & she needed to get the matted rope hair-do out of her face for better sanitation. We asked her to turn down the music-it was SO LOUD we had to repeat our order 2x. She shuffled to the back, but there was no audible difference. We were the only ones there, wouldn't be able to talk/listen to each other, so just walked out. Honestly, she couldn't have cared less. It seems very hit or miss since there are some higher ratings. First, let's separate beer, or braggot, from place and food. Beer is pretty good, however I left feeling like I wasted an hour of my life. As a seemingly farm-to-table style beer from honey approach, I like it. However they take a completely opposite approach to food that eliminates any regard you have for the company. There are wonderful pizza offerings in the vicinity which leaves you producing sub-par versions out of the gate. They all have great local beer, so why come here. Poutine. It should be brown gravy, and smaller fries to increase surface area for gravy to cling to. Frozen steak fries, scant amount of white gravy, and cold curds...major fail for $5 much less $11. I understand the industry, a high school kid can make pizza and frozen fries. Wait, this isn't a $7/hour job in Oregon, and I'm certain the kitchen staff are underutilized. If not, they are in more trouble than I thought. Potatoes don't need refrigeration, can be bought in a consistent size, and a can crusher type fry press can churn out a serving as fast as a trip to the freezer. This is a self-inflicted wound. If you add the bulk stock of Sysco 108 oz cans of crap displayed behind the bar, or the bartender re-filling ketchup out of a giant plastic sac on the bar, and you realize ownership dropped the ball. This is just a plain dumb move. Make a modicum of effort to have food that aligns, rather than contradicts, your respect for craft of your beverage. Then, maybe, after some reinforcement on Yelp, I may deem Viking Braggot worthy of a second visit. read more

Years ago I'd been way out west to the brewery, but I'd never had any food by Viking before, nor had I been inside this location- though I'd been eyeing it since the signs went up. So we came here for brunch this morning without any idea of how it would be (other than reading the menu online ahead of time). I tend to have low expectations for brunch in Eugene- I've had some decent ones, but I've also had a lot of poorly cooked potatoes... Viking blew my expectations out of the water though! This was quality brunch on par with my favorite places in Portland, Seattle, or Chicago. They also went above and beyond to accommodate my kid's egg allergy (we tend to just order whatever is egg free, but they were extra aware and our server realized there was egg in the sausage and helped us order something different quickly - a little off menu/substitute parts too)! We were there at 10 and there were a number of other groups eating but it wasn't crowded at all - there's plenty of room for groups, and for other diners to be able to choose to sit away from a table with a toddler. There was also a nice basket of toys for young kids that totally bought us an extra half hour of relaxing brunchtime after the toys we brought lost their appeal. Everything our group ordered was delicious- breakfast skillet (one with egg, one without), biscuits (some with sausage gravy, one with butter), and most notable my skillet fried potatoes were cooked perfectly. read more
