My husband stayed at a hotel just behind the Rim and dined at Kaffeinated Crepes and Coffee during our time in San Antonio. Kaffeinated Crepes and Coffee is a great place for fresh food and coffee (see separate review). The Rim is too large of a shopping center. It is difficult to find your way around. The streets and parking are not driver friendly. There is a severe lack of signage!!! While The Rim has a lot to offer it is not convenient or easy to get to the shops.

Olmos Park shopping! This place is right on the border of…read moreOlmos Park and San Antonio, with the train tracks running directly behind the property. It's on a weird triangle shaped property that makes things interesting for a shopping center. Part of the shopping center is completely hidden from the street view, where there's a bunch of railroad cars permanently parked in the rear with businesses inside. This shopping center touts some serious street cred when it comes to restaurants here- with all the places to eat in here (for the most part) have been excellent. Be sure to check out Mixtli, Alberico's Fine Wine, or YaYa's Thai- all of them are excellent experiences. Parking is always easy here, and the shops are always eclectic. They offer offices for rent, above Newby's Salon- on the super cheap, it looks like. They sometimes sell pottery and chimineas by the weird apex of the triangle near the train tracks crossing. It's a shame that they locked out Olmos Perk, but I understand... It's deprived Olmos Park from a coffee shop! Other than the train cars as retail businesses, I enjoy how they have a public little plaza with a place to hang out in the center of the parking area, in front of YaYa's. There's more than meets the eye while driving by at 30mph (Don't go over 30! Olmos Park Cops are vigilant) be sure to pull in here and see what all there is to offer.

Sol y Luna is renown for their margaritas, and Revolucion Coffee is a fantastic place to grab a cup o' brew. There's always plenty of parking around here, and there's even a 24 hour guard on duty to keep things safe. There's other public works of art here, like a fountain that never runs, lots of plants, a modern art piece called "Modern Dog" and a few bird baths. In the rear of the center are a few professional offices, mostly doctors offices. In the very, very back is an alleyway that allows for a quick cut through to Sunset from Terra Alta. One of my favorite things about this center, other than the shopping bags, are the cats. They run this place. They're all over the place.

I do not like to collect anything and only purchase items that have a purpose. So this shopping setup goes against everything I usually gravitate toward. However, when on vacation I do like to get a taste of the local fare and perhaps grab a little something to remember my visit. Near where we were staying is the Market Square-an indoor/outdoor market boasting brightly colored, cheaply made and mostly imported items. There are lots of people, upbeat music and an energy that lures you in. Here, you can find a variety of articles of clothing, hats and shot glasses. I was looking for something that I could take to my son-something practical-ish that I wouldn't mind seeing around the house. We visited three separate times (it was a stop on our tour bus), but each time I left empty handed. The hours are a bit limited-they open at ten (or a bit after, really) and close at 4pm. There are restaurants sprinkled throughout, which might draw more people than the actual market. I would have liked to see some more high-quality, artisan made items rather than so many cheap things that were mass produced. Or more "consumable" items such as soaps, candles, candies, etc. But if you're looking for a souvenir without having to spend a lot of money, you just may find something here.

Growing up visiting family in Mexico I can appreciate all the shops at the Market Square. It…read morereminded me so much of my childhood! I remember walking along the Mexican touristy boardwalks and markets enjoying all the gift shops, music and street food. Mexico is a country known for it's rich culture. I remember traveling to the Garibaldi square famous for Mariachi Music and its local native vendors who come and sell handmade items like dolls, sarapes, rugs, pottery, jewelry, Agua Frescas, churros, fruit on a stick, roasted corn, street tacos. Well, the Marketplace is a tiny taste of Mexico, and thankfully, I don't have to drive all the way to the Motherland to find some great souvenirs. You'll find all kinds of curios, pottery, marble chess sets, wooden toys...no shortage of fun gifts. I loved showing my kids all the wonderful artisans since we no longer visit Mexico on a regular basis. We bought some beautiful pottery and my boys got some fun souvenir luchadores and candy to take home. Overall a fun day of touristy shopping! We'll be back!

Strand by me! Strand in the place where you are!…read more This is a cool shopping center located right off the corner of I-10 and Huebner. It's got a huge monument sign out in the ample parking lot. I've always felt safe here. The parking lot is well lit, and there's a nice sidewalk that takes customers from one establishment to the next. Some of the places even have spots outdoors to enjoy the weather on the wide sidewalks. The center has a Flying Saucer anchoring at one end, and a movie theater next door. There's a wide array of businesses here, usually with few vacancies. There's lots of car dealerships within a stone's throw from this spot. Accessing this spot isn't quite as easy as if it were right on the hard corner of Huebner and I-10, but it's accessible by any road that comes off of that intersection. There's plenty of ways to get in and out of this shopping center. The place is always picked up and litter free which is pretty cool!

If you don't Strand for something, you fall for anything…read more So I decided to make a Strand by reviewing this place for the first time. This is located at Huebner Oaks Shopping Center in San Antonio, around the back in the plaza itself, and this section is known as The Strand and is separate from the traditional Huebner outdoor in-the-round strop mall. This one is like Huebner, which is a very posh and enjoyable shopping center. I like to come here whenever I can because it has good memories and it's extremely well done. Barbie loves it here too and looks great here, but it can be a little bit difficult to walk around this mall with heels. Still, it's much better and more enjoyable than most strip malls, and has beautiful distant old memories for me, too.

The aesthetic of the building were extremely pretty! The shops mostly had reasonable prices and plenty of items to choose from. Only thing I will say is it needs some upkeep on the decks and railing as me and a few other customers had a hard time slipping and sliding. Very dangerous!
