I love this shopping center although it's a bit, "bougie" I guess for loss of a better word. But they have the best vegetarian restaurant in the planet in my opionon, and the food in Whole Foods is really good as well, especially the white pizza with the carmalized onions! Delicious! There is also a Navy Federal Checking which are pretty hard to find, FYI, and there is also a James Avery store, a Victoria's Secret, Ulta, Micheal's craft, and a pretty good shoe store, I think it's carnival shoes but I may be wrong. Than there are a few stores that I could care less about but you may like as they are pretty popular: a Trader Joe's if your into that, a Home Goods, some fancy gift stores, and that really popular cookie shop I can't remember the name but they are always viral with cookies that contain like 3000 calories a piece. There's even a movie theater but I can't speak on that as I've never been. The prices aren't great anywhere in here but the selection and environment is great! read more

I can't put my finger on it, maybe it's the stores, how far apart everything is, the design, or maybe all that put together... I've been shopping at the Quarry for decades, because my grandfather lives nearby. It's an outdoor shopping market (rather than an inside mall), so it's a great place to walk on a pretty day. But it's mostly chain stores that aren't that exciting (Gap, Bed Bath and Beyond, Victoria's Secret, etc.), but it's a convenient location with lots of stores if you need/want a spree where you can walk around. There's also a movie theater and some places to get a bite or a drink if you want. Not a bad place to wander! read more

When you think San Antonio, shopping isn't the first, second, or probably twenty-second thing that comes to mind. And let's just say gigantic smokestacks and clothing stores are not something you think of when you say "Alamo". The AQM is one of the more visually impressive shopping centers I've been to. Wedged betwixt the San Antone suburban communities of Terrell Hills and Alamo Heights, AQM makes its impression felt long before you hit the place: Four smokestacks and a facade, remnants of a one-time cement factory, are epic and omnipresent wherever you go in the Market. I recommend both a day and night visit (shopping in the day, dinner in the night) ... don't worry, there's PLENTY to fill multiple visits. And there's nothing quite like the colored glow of the lightning on the smokestacks that fill the night sky. Also don't forget to check out the Alamo Quarry Market Gate with an old Ford Fordson (since these things haven't been built in America since the 1920s ... it's gotta be pretty old!) AQM brings an abundance of options in what I call "the usual" from malls, outlets, and others of their ilk. The usual clothiers: Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Nordstrom Rack, lululemon, LOFT, Old Navy, Altar'd State, Sephora, Victoria's Secret, J. Jill, J. Crew, francesca's, Soma, Coldwater Creek, etc., etc. The usual beauty-centric: European Wax Center, ULTA, Woodhouse Day Spa, The Boardroom Salon for Men, TGF Hair Salon, Woodhouse Day Spa, etc. The usual "I-don't-need-it-but-have-money-to-blow" stores: the Sunglass Hut, Verizon Wireless, GameStop, AT&T, not to mention a bevy of jewelers, furniture, and shoe stores. There are several things that I think vault AQM above the usual. To sum it up: AQM is the ultimate All-Day Mall. You can go to a movie at their 16-screen multiplex, work off that popcorn at the Gold's Gym, and buy all your groceries at the Whole Foods. You've got great for food for every meal of the day: Breakfast (Snooze), lunch (about a million), and dinner (about a million). I really love Mo's Irish Pub, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse, J. Alexander's, and the Canyon Cafe. There are also plenty of sit-down and fast casual chains: Chili's, Chipotle, P.F. Chang's, CPK, Freddy's Steakburgers, Starbucks, etc., etc. Then you'll find those unique places: One of only two Fast Forward Skate Shops; a San Antonio favorite: Zedric's Gourmet Food; and Texas clothing and shoe legend Whole Earth Provision Company. If you break into the stores here, you'll set off the Alarmo. But don't Quarry about it. You can just Market down as character-building experience. I don't remember every shopping center I go to... some are quite forgettable. But I will always, and forever, remember the Alamo. This is one of the best shopping centers in the world, in my opinion. One of the most memorable and personally meaningful to me as well, because the first time I came here it was to play a concert which ended up being one of the best concerts in the history of my music. And I've played a thousand of them so I don't say that lightly. It's under the Towering smokestacks of an abandoned Factory that has been spruced up and looks pretty now. It's one of the most visually stunning shopping centers I've been to. It's very straightforward and simple and many of the shops are in a big round circle and they all have pretty pastel colors for their storefronts. Very impressive on every level. And obviously if you look at what Barbie was wearing on the day that we came here, you can imagine that we've made even more beautiful and new memories now. What I like about this shopping center is that is is an excellent example of re purposing. This site was the home to the Alamo Cement Company from 1880 - 1981. The building that houses the movie theater was the rock crushing building. They kept some of the big old smokestacks. Old equipment has been turned into art. The entry sign for Alamo Cement is used at the main entrance. A nice variety of stores, some chains and some are unique. This place is always crowded. OK as far as shopping centers go if you are into shopping. read more

I don't live in this neighborhood, but my friend does, so i have found myself coming here quite often to see a movie. Recently came on Sunday to see an afternoon show. It is usually pretty easy to find a place to park and lots of great shopping and eating in the area when you're done with your movie. The staff is usually friendly and patient with any request you might have. The theatre is always clean and well maintained. It's two floors and they have an escalator and even another concession stand upstairs that operates on weekends when they're really busy. I've never really had to wait very long! Also they give free refills on the ginormous bucket of popcorn if you're a pig OR if you knock it over in the movie like i did! Oops! Sorry guys! Overall, i would definitely recommend to anyone in the area or passing through! read more

I used to hang out at the Quarry a lot a few years back but now with the Rim a little closer to my neck of the woods, I only come over here every so often. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great place to eat, hang out, catch a movie at, shop, etc - it's just all a matter of driving convenience for me. Now, what I do love is the farmers' market. Sometimes you'll see food trucks such as the Rolling Pig out here and vendors such as The Lemonade Company as well. It's not overwhelmingly huge or anything but the market does lend itself to some level of intimacy during these times. My only complaint - parking spaces are tiny. In the past, I've had cars park so close to me only to think that the driver was being a dumbass and parked incorrectly when that wasn't the case at all. The spaces are just so narrow. Such a cool place to shop. It's really cool how they changed the old Alamo Cement Co. into a functioning shopping center! There is evidence of the old cement company all over the place- train tracks that lead you to an old train car that would carry rock from the Quarry across the street. I really enjoy the addition that the smokestacks give to the San Antonio skyline! Especially when they light 'em up different colors for Christmas or Fiesta! There are all kinds of great shops in here, national retailers! Traffic can be a bit frustrating around here, especially during the holidays. But it's a nice walk, and you can cut through the giant building by the movie theater. The Quarry is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I like coming to the quarry. There are so many things to do with cool stores and great places to eat that I spend all day here. It's best to avoid coming here when it rains since it floods easily and when there is a lot of traffic because it can get hectic. Some of my favorite spots are Whole Earth Provision, Charming Charlies, Amy's Ice Cream, Urban Taco (happy hour!), and Trader Joes It's a really neat place for sure and I like the history behind it and the way it was re-purposed. I love this place mostly for its well-known smokestacks and their sheer size. The smokestacks take my breath away every time I get the chance to visit this place. As a UIW student, this was THE place to go and hang out on weekends- especially for students without cars and Trinity freshmen who weren't allowed to have them. Catch a Via bus, ride your bike, or beg your roommate for a ride- AQ has enough businesses to occupy you for the entire weekend. Quarry theater has a special place in my heart, and even after nearly two decades, riding an escalator to your theater still gets you excited for your blockbuster action flick- don't lie. Between Starbucks, Pottery Barn, Victoria's Secret, Old Navy, Michaels, various cell phone retailers, and a handful of restaurants, you have every mall store you expect when you go to a mall, plus highlights like the leather goods store no one ever goes to, J Alexanders, and My Fit Foods. Love how Alamo Heights dresses up the 'hood and shopping plaza for the holidays with lights and a ginger bread house and even a Santa to take pictures with for the entire month of December. Quarry Market is the perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon or do your Christmas shopping. The shopping center is brimming with things that could keep me occupied for hours, including a Borders, Whole Foods, movie theater, plenty of smaller shops like Bath and Body Works, restaurants, an ice cream shop and a Jamba Juice. Whu! That's enough to keep me occupied (and full) for quite some time. I have been to many of the stores in the Quarry and they keep on adding more and more. Behind the theater and Whole Foods, there is a new area that consists of shops on the bottom level and apartments on the top. You can walk down the little street and feel like you are in an old-fashioned, albeit brand new, down town area. Since you might not initially see this area, be sure not to miss it. Parking can be a little hectic in Quarry Market but there are enough shops to make it worth it. I love heading over here on a weekend to browse the countless stores and even finish it off with a tasty, cool treat. Not a shabby way to spend some free time. read more

It has all the stores you need from clothing, beauty, entertainment, dinning and even grocery shopping! My first experience coming here was an eye-opener. The traffic wasn't too bad but the wait for snooze am eatery was longer than I'm use to. However it was worth the wait. A pretty cool place to spend a couple of hours. My husband and I grabbed some lunch and then strolled through the area for awhile with no goal in particular. It was a VERY busy Sunday, I can see that this place can be hard to navigate on 4 wheels during busy times. I wouldn't dare return on a weekend, too many people for me! Still, we enjoyed ourselves as we made our way through Whole Earth Provision Company where I spent over an hour checking out their sale on sandals and then reading the random cat lover's book, then through Nordstrom Rack (my favorite) and then strolled down to Ulta. We thought about stopping for ice cream at Amy's, but with so many people, we couldn't even get through the door! Overall, it's a great place to hang out and check out all of the cool displays. The Quarry was really cool back in '02 when I was younger, less wise, and weirdly obsessed with shopping and trends. Now? I pretty much try to avoid it. In addition to the fact that it's 95% large national chains, it's also quite difficult to drive around or through, and even more difficult to park on a weekend or evening. And don't even try to watch a movie there, unless being surrounded by giggling tweens is your idea of catching a flick. The pros? Convenient for gift shopping when you need a safe choice, because you can hit up most of the popular stores (Bath & Body, Banana, Gap, Old Navy, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware). Also, there are a few local non-chain restaurants to enjoy. But really, is it necessary to have TWO Starbucks within two blocks? C'mon San Antonio, why do we demand sh*t like this? All you need to do is drive a few blocks in any direction whether it be to Alamo Heights, Olmos Park or Monte Vista, and you will find great shopping, easier parking, and you'll be supporting local businesses. read more

Yes, "Yay! I'm a fan." However, I'm an even bigger fan of this market at dusk into the evening. The large Texan sun tends to put a damper on walking through black pavement from place to place. The spread of shoppes is extensive and spread out. If you plan on window-shopping the entire area I recommend parking centrally in front of the movie theatre. With that, I'll start with the movie theatre. This theatre is a bit older now but still has such a unique Hollywood feel to it! There are many theaters so you are sure to find a show that interests you showing. After exploring the Quarry several times (since high school) this is what my final routine is now when I am back home for a visit: Whole Foods: Take a wheat grass shot and maybe buy a flower to put in my hair. Order coffee to-go. Restoration Hardware: More for window shopping but there are some nice unique gift items available as well. WHOLE EARTH PROVISIONS: This is my favorite part of the Quarry. The "People Love us on Yelp" sticker is prominently displayed on their front door and you'll know why when you walk in. High ceilings are fitting in this adventurous store and it's easy to get lost and inspired by books, outerwear, climbing gear, pet accessories, children's toys, wind chimes, and so much more! This place is convenient and quick to get to from Live Oak and points North up 1-35. There is so much traffic on the weekends that one must be very careful, as people won't obey all the courtesies of the throughways and parking lots. You can enjoy a movie, shop for groceries, get lunch, dinner, or a drink, buy a few outfits, and even decorations for the house all in one place. A much needed expansion has occurred here within the past few years, adding even more stores to this outdoor market. While it's nice to have more variety, it does make walking from one end to the other a tedious chore so I imagine driving will be more convenient (although it's nice to walk when the weather is bareable). The Quarry is got a lot of stores but I can't really say that it's one of my favorite mall in SA. For one thing, driving around there is kind of confusing, lots of cars, speed bumps, people and everything is so spaced out. You want to go to trader joes just across the street? Good luck driving (and finding parking) there in your car. Want to get a nice froyo or a nice smoothie from wholefoods before the movies? Try walking 10 minutes to get to the stores, navigating through a bunch of traffic. I do like the stores around here, the theater, wholefoods, nordstrom rack, trader joes, loft. It just takes too much effort to get to these places even though they are all technically in the same area. read more
