My go to place for chicken anywhere in the NOVA area. Im a highly sensitive gluten-free person and it is so refreshing to have a small, local family run business that I can trust. I ordered the village bowl #4 which includes gyro meat and pulled chicken along with rice, chick peas lettuce tomato and feta. First off the gyro meat and pulled chicken pieces were overcooked little pieces of meat. No flavor to them at all. The chickpeas were in some type of red sauce that tasted like a bad tomato sauce. Could not eat. Rice was overcooked and everything came all mixed together which, yes I understand is the point of a bowl but the res sauce over the chickpeas was on everything. I went here for the first time today after reading the reviews on yelp and google. I ordered using their website and the food was ready in 15 minutes! We ordered the lamb gyro and the gyro bowl, both were great! The lamb gyro and bowl were both filled with tons of meat and ingredients which made it very filling. The sides of the fried and cucumber salad were also good additions. When we went to pick it up the employee who greeted me was so pleasant and helpful. The "Peruvian" roasted chicken was bland and devoid of any of the beautiful spice that makes Peruvian chicken so good. On top of this it was a fairly expensive meal. Village Chicken has some incredible food but it really depends on what you order. $15 on Monday for the whole chicken and 2 sides is a killer deal. The chicken is spot on. If it's your namesake it better be good, and it is. Every time. I hand shred it at home to avoid any of those tiny bones. The meat is so tender it slips right off the bones so it's easy to get a little one in there if you don't use your hands. But they could really use some work on their sides. The rice is hard, the macaroni salad is a little bland, so we are just sticking with their mac and cheese and salad for our two sides. You get a decent portion of salad too and the dressing is quite good. Keep in mind I usually go near the end of the day so sides might be fresher during the day/lunch. It's a good spot, but they recently raised their prices ~25%. I personally won't be going too frequently, but it's still pretty good comfort food. I wasn't thrilled with the rotisserie chicken, but it wasn't horrible....pretty similar to the Giant rotisserie chickens, which are a lot cheaper and just as good. You can also buy the same brand of pita bread in the grocery store as well lol. The pulled chicken and chicken fajita is very dry. Sides were mostly decent, depending on what you get but again can easily make them yourself. The workers are pretty friendly and fast. Also, small bone to pick - the gyro meat tastes like cheap sausage (think Jimmy Dean's microwavable sausage). I ordered the 1/2 chicken platter and their traditional (beef & lamb) gyro platter. The yellow rice was either overcooked or left over from the night before since it was hard to eat and served cold. I wasn't crazy about the cucumber salad dressing too. Their baked chicken was dry and bland so it was very disappointing. They provided a spicy green sauce and a hummus like dip with the order. The only redeeming factor for this restaurant is their gyro and fries. The gyro was not bad but also not amazing. Easily the BEST gyros I have ever had, period! They slice it off the lamb right in front of you, deeelish. I love getting the combo's to go (i'm not a fan of the chili in the combos, they overfill the section and it gets in my gyro), but dining in is also a treat.
