Village-Commons-Market I was out roller skating. I live here in this neighborhood. I came into the store and was greeted by 2 older men. "Who is this princess?" "Can I help you honey?" I waved my hand hello and said " no thank you." I go to check my lottery tickets. Very rudely I was told to leave the store. Before buying some beverages or checking my tickets. I will never spend my money in this store again. The owner was one of the two men in behind the counter. For the last 3 years I haven't felt comfortable shopping at this store. It's the local spot where you can get something quickly with no hassle and a smile. New owners are friendly and amiable, improved the amount of stuff in stock and organized it so everything is easier to find, and have a few more discounts than the prior owners. (Prior owners were good people too.) This place has a "beer cave" with a ton of different beers, check it out if you haven't already. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!! I was poised to give these guys 5 stars for the massive beer selection, until I popped open this Clown Shoes Galactica IPA. Tasted terrible, and I was shocked because Clown Shoes is the bomb. Lo and behold I was drinking on 11/13/15 a beer brewed on 3/17/2014!!! I wonder how these motherfuckers would feel if I sold them grossly expired food? They are also busting heads, $15 for a 6 of Bell's Two Hearted. Shame on you guys! read more

Pros: Dog-parking to leash up your pet. Beer cave in the back with dozens of chilled beer. Found a couple really good gluten-free beer brands. The only place to find heavy cream on Thanksgiving Day. To be honest, main dude that works there is so rude and annoying. I have been living here for the past 14 years and been keeping this store in business ONLY because of my friends and I. But recently the cool owner left and now there is a new owner. This dude is just so rude and acts like we're some Aliens or something. We walk in and he's always checking camera and staring at us. Sometimes I can understand why's he's doing what he's doing but it's really got to a point where I can't even shop without being hassled and stared and being uncomfortable all the time.Not only that but he's always rushing people to pay and not giving us time to select what we want. To top everything off his stuff is overpriced. Just try to avoid this place if you have to. But I'm not sure if he's like this to everyone but only the younger audiences. I miss the old owners because they were just so much nicer and actually treating us with respect. Also forgot to add this in but this man would not let 30 cents slide and I left the store with nothing in my hands. A superb craft beer selection. There's some craft beer in the liquor store, but then you walk towards the back and there a back refrigerated room or "beer cave" full of more craft beer. It reminded me of the "beer cave" I also recently came across at the Whole Foods flagship store in Austin. I was able to walk away with a limited run beer hidden at the front counter a couple of NoCal beers I haven't seen any where else from the beer cave. Highly recommended if you're in Camarillo. A nice place to browse through some beers distributed up in the Ventura County area. They even had a nice cider from San Luis Obispo in stock which I tasted at MilkFarm LA. Sometimes they will even pull out a fun new release for you to try that isn't out on the shelves. I'd love to support this place more and give them a better score, but I just simply can't. Three stars is even generous when it comes to some aspects of the Market. Yes, they have most everything that other local mini marts within Camarillo have. Everything is stocked pretty well, its been rare when they haven't had milk or ice, etc. Yes, they have a stellar beer selection, BUT the biggest issue is also the fact that beer doesn't sell and sits beyond its recommended enjoy by date. I have been in the cave and seen beers that have year old expiration dates. To clarify I'm not talking about Bud/Miller/Coors, I'm talking about the freshly brewed hoppy beers. They just sit on the shelf and don't move. I refuse to buy beer from the Beer Cave if it doesn't have a "brewed date" or an "enjoy by" date. Because they have so much beer that's beyond its prime and its a shame people are subjected to not enjoying these fresh. Now this might be an issue with both the Cave and the Distributor or just one party. I love that they have such a HUGE selection, the largest in Camarillo, but I believe quality over quantity. Have a good selection of beer, BUT keep some type of quality control. Lastly, the pricing is a little steep on standard beer that is available at BevMo and the Super Markets. Its understandable to be a little higher because of the convenience, but 20-30% markup is painful. read more
