How did I not know about this place sooner?! After our first visit, this is definitely going to be our go-to spot in Camarillo for delicious hard ciders, great wine, and oh-so relaxing vibes. Back Patio Cellars feels like you've just meandered into Frank & Jen's backyard, and they invite you to stay awhile to try some cider/wine. This is definitely their passion project, and it shows in how they talk about their ciders/wine and enjoy sharing with people. It's located in a business park where they have what seems like a traditional tasting room with a few tables, a "living room" with comfortable seats and a couch surrounded by their barrels, and a "patio" outside with covered seating. We opted for a cider tasting, and as someone who was a little wary, because I don't have much of a sweet tooth, I was so excited to hear that their style is on the drier side. These hard ciders are dangerously good... refreshing, delicately flavored, and you wouldn't even know that they're packed with a high ABV. We tried the Apple, Black Berry Pie, Golden Kiwi, Guava, Blood Orange, and Key Lime. My favorite was the guava and my SO's was the Black Berry Pie. These are perfect for warm weather, and you can even take cans or growlers to go! As for food, there are some snacks available for purchase, and folks are welcome to bring their own snacks (uh, charcuterie plate, anyone?) except when there's a food truck. Tasting Flight: $20/tasting for 5 pours (and possibly an additional pour at the end). First visit and got to meet both Frank (Winemaker) & Jen (Hospitality), the gracious owners of Back Patio Cellars. Hidden within a business park, this boutique winery and cider house offers something for everyone. They have a cute tasting room, and of course a "back patio" area, but we preferred the comfy "living room" seating area inside the barrel room (I love a nice barrel room). One minor complaint is that they don't have a printed tasting list, or even a comprehensive list of their wines/prices. WINES: We were able to try a '21 Albarino, a '19 Viognier, a '20 Rosé of Granache, a '19 carbonic Cabernet Sauvignon, a '20 Syrah, and a '16 Cab Sauv. from Lodi. We loved the two whites, and the Syrah and Lodi Cab, taking home several bottles. My mother-in-law had a glass of their Cinnabon cider, which was quite nice. They had nine flavors of cider on tap the day of our visit. No food available, other than bags of chips, but feel free to bring your own munchies and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and tasty wines/ciders! Overall, we had a nice experience getting to know Jen & Frank and trying their wines. IMO, Back Patio Cellars is definitely worth a visit. read more

What a wonderful experience! This winery really feels as if you have been welcomed into Frank and Jen's back patio. A hidden gem, this dog-friendly winery and cider house offers a wide variety of both craft wines and organic ciders. Their rose is not to miss; with a crisp, floral notes this easy drink will sure to be a fan favorite. We also had an opportunity to taste all of their ciders on tap. Using organic and gluten free produce they create a refreshing and unique cider. Our favorites were the Guava, Tangerine and Hoppy Apricot. Back Patio Cellars is part of Camarillo's burgeoning micro-winery scene. You're not going to get the beautiful scenery of Napa or Sonoma or a $10 million replica of a medieval Italian castle. What you will get is some damn fine wine made by a passionate local winemaker and you won't have to spend $1500 in travel and lodging costs. Stay local and spend your money on wine. I'm an "other red" wine person, so I won't comment on their whites or their Cab. Their "Patio Red", a Rhone-style GSM blend was excellent as was their Sangiovese. They know what they're doing in the cellar. Frank, the owner and winemaker, and his wife are very welcoming and the tasting room is a nice, cozy, bachelorette party-free zone. read more

Great wine, great people! Frank and Jen always make you feel welcome and provide a fun and relaxing place to hang out and try their delicious wines. They also have a lot to choose from in their special events. We just took part in their Paint Your Own Wine Label event (our 3rd one) and had a blast! We even brought extra family members along and they had a great time as well, even got a little Cornhole game going as well! Check them out! read more

My fiance and I were visiting family in California. We were taking a drive and found Back Patio Wines. We stopped in for a taste and were not impressed in the least bit. Frank (Owner) was nice enough however we did not care for the tasting. It was our least favorite Wine during our trip. Beautiful location! Sorry Frank but for the rest of the trip we refereed to your Wine as Back Sweat Wine. We did not try the food so i am not comfortable commenting on that. I think you could do better! read more

Wonderful couple making great tasting wine!Their patio white really good! As well the rest of the line up, clearly you could see this couple has a passion for making artesian wine. Frank was really nice about showing me whats going on in the back during harvest season and explained the process of how wine is made and even let me taste a grape or too. We found this winery on the Ventura County Wineries Winery Map Guide. While the tasting room was a little hard to locate because it is in an industrial area, we stayed true to our goal and finally found them. A little disappointed with their tasting room ambiance, we still tried all they had to offer and hopes that at least one wine had a promise of maturing into something special. The truth is simply is this is a really young winery that doesn't have the palate or experience to really recognize what it takes to not only create a good wine but to entertain and engage your customers with either a story, charisma, or a unique wine experience. Wishing them the best of luck but will be be surprised if they last five years. read more

Came here for the first time this past weekend. I had not heard of them but found it by googling for wineries in Camarillo. If your into mom and pop wineries than this is the place to go! The owner pours the wine himself and has fun things in the tasting room to keep you busy with your friends. The wine tasted amazing and was very smooth. Highly recommend this winery! read more

This place is wonderful. We scheduled a small conference in the barrel room and Jen and Frank were fantastic. They answered all of our questions and set up the room perfectly. A Ventura County hidden treasure for sure! This little micro-winery is a must on your To Do and See List. Being a Red lover, i couldn't have been happier with two reds i tasted. What made the Winery so special -- the owners of course. Their passion for wine, and winemaking, their knowledge of the wine world, and the pure joy they have as they do the tasting makes it a must see and do for everyone.
