One of my favorite thrift stores! I used to frequent it almost every Sunday to visit for their 3 for $1 sale. They have a big selection of women's skirts and dresses, which is why I always go! I'm not a big fan of this location; it's one of the smallest VDO locations and the merchandize I saw here was disappointingly boring. Often times the selections don't necessarily reflect the type of neighborhood where the merchandize is held, but this principle appeared to be somewhat defied today. The aisles were a bit narrow. There weren't too many people shopping, but some of the "miscellaneous" items were sort of fragmented and shattered. I wonder if anyone would want to take broken pieces home, unless there is a creative use out of any of these. There were vinyls on the ground, decapitated dolls in the bins, and abandoned teddy bears that needs be revived in loving households. There weren't any organizations on anything really. I guess you can truly have a pleasure of thrift shopping, because you will need to thrift diligently in this location. If you don't live in or close to this neighborhood, head to other locations before coming to this one. It's one of the south-side locations, even though the CTA bus 47 (47th.; going from Hyde Park--Bronzeville--Back of the Yard--Brighton Park--Gage Park--Midway) and the CTA 49 (Western) buses are conveniently accessible. So I've been going to this store since my son was an infant. He's 32 and now i'm a grandma. And I still give them top rating.

hella white ppl from up north (obvious resellers) been starting to show up here and all their prices are going up. Shame.

It's true, as the other reviews say, that the associates are pretty brusque and rude, but if you go in expecting it, I think you'll be ok. The selection (especially of women's shoes) is great! read more

My current favorite in the chain of Village Discounts, this small thrift store is well priced and has a good rotation of stuff going through it. The shirts are always in good order, the housewares are in shambles but there is a pretty decent selection, everything else is hit or miss. Found an extremely rare map of Michigan for $3 sitting in a pile of crap... The tamale lady / guy outside is top notch as well! read more

I love VDO chain of thrift stores, this one is one of the smaller ones but still pretty decent prices, this store isn't over priced like some other locations. I've found really nice holiday decor for super cheap. The staff is always kind and helpful. I love getting lost in this place for hours. read more

This Village Discount has a good selection but I'll have to tell you that every aisle is a war zone. Manuvering around stray hangers and 3-year olds is tricky. One day, I turned the aisle into a fresh fart someone had cut loose. Another time, a kid was grabbing shoppers ankles from under the clothes racks. You never know what else you will find there outside of the clothes. I do know that I plan to go back..armed with a gas mask and ankle protectors. read more

I stopped by here to do a bit of shopping on a day off. I wanted to see a few items behind the counter . The person who seemed to be the manager (she was directing the cashiers and other sales people) condescended to assist me. It was clear from her disdain that she really didn't want to be bothered. ( I don't speak Spanish- and so I was treated as second class citizen here) Despite her rudeness, I did buy the items I wanted to see. It is a wonder to me that a person with appalling customer relations should be in charge at a retail establishment. read more

This store is kind of a dump. It's always a mess and it's over stuffed with everything including customers! That said, they do get some decent stuff, and if you wait until they lower their unreal prices, you can get some good stuff here. I have found a lot of decent cameras, antique toys, video games and cassette tapes, but like I said, if you don't like clutter, it's not for you. read more

The quality of offerings here has declined noticeably, while prices climb noticeably higher. $2 for this water-damaged cookbook? Really? It's...a hassle to shop here. Y ellas no hablan Ingles alla. Ninguno. But every so often there's something interesting to be found. The jewelry prices are exorbitant, seriously. I think this is one of my least favorite VDOs in the area. I have been to this location several times. I come here to look for items for my nieces school drama club. This store has a pretty good variety. One of the very first times I came here I was being helped by one of the lady's that work there. She was pleasant. During our conversation another worker, I assume a store manager or supervisor, walked over and was extremely rude. She shooed away the lady that was helping me and I was left with no help. She didn't send anyone else to help me. I purchased a few items and left. I went back another time and the person I assume is a manager/supervisor was there. I walked over to her to ask for help and she said she was busy and that I should wait for someone to become available. I walked over to her again after I couldn't find someone to help me. She berated me in front of other customers. I was embarrassed and upset. I left. I went back today 12/15/19 I needed help and someone was already helping me when she very rudely and aggressively yells from across the store for the worker that was helping me to stop helping me and go somewhere else. The lady that was helping me, clearly embarrassed and maybe even ashamed, told me she had to walk away and work somewhere else but hoped she was able to help me. It looked like she was fighting tears. I asked her for the woman's name, it's Vero. Vero is definitely NOT emotionally intelligent enough to be customer facing or a supervisor/manager. She's rude, aggressive, and impatient with customers and employees of the store. I come from the Beverly area all the way to 47th st to shop at your store. I'm going to assume that this store has lost many great employees and customers because of Veros nasty attitude. She's not someone I would let run my business. read more

I don't like the other locations but decided to stop in since I frequently pass it. I don't expect much from thrift stores. I have been to many that kind of spoil you because they're laid out so well and reasonably priced but I try to remember that they are indeed to rummage through and are hit or miss. That being said, this one was okay. Sundays are half price on the items with blue, yellow, or pink tags. There will also be a half off sale for Columbus day tomorrow. I saw some pretty decent items but this place is a bit overpriced for my tastes. The jewelry was the worst. What appeared to me to be costume bracelets were $11. Nah, son. There were some mugs that were cute but nothing special that were $2.98 each. No thank you. Then I found some nice Stella McCartney shoes that were $20. I know she's.designer and all but I have yet to find anything in a thrift shop that would make me pay $20. They had lots of printers, fax machines, and small appliances. There were some nice sweaters as well. Overall, It's a place that I'd more than likely return to. read more
