Huge space and lots of stuff: clothes, furniture, kitchen appliances, electronics. One requires at least a couple of hours to thoroughly scour the place, and I've found several nice pieces at Unique, including a beautiful blouse from Theory. Mondays are fifty percent off. If you donate, you get coupons that you can use other times of the week. There is ample parking, which is convenient if one wants to transport larger pieces of furniture. Demerits: some of the staff can be abjectly rude and unhelpful. I have met exactly one staff members who was even moderately nice. There are no fitting rooms, which makes shopping for clothes a bit harder. The space is also not always clean. If you know me I looove Unique it's my favorite thrift in the area for sure. This location is definitely not up to par with the other ones unfortunately which sucks because it's the one I live near. The prices here are pretty crazy (selling used coats for upwards of $75?!). I've noticed they also will price things high that have noticeable damage or ware. I would say the highlight of this place is definitely the HomeGoods section. I have found some decent things there for an OK price. if you're willing to sit through the clothes and very narrow isles, you can find some gems. I have found some cool pieces here but again the prices can be outrageous and the quality of the items I find here is usually not the best. My advice is to make the trip up to the Elston location or go to one in the suburbs and you'll have a much better experience. read more

I've been going to this location for 10 years and in the last 5 months I've noticed a serious decline. In 2008, when I moved to the area this was a bargain spot then the recession hit. And I noticed prices began to rise. But now things are way over priced. $15 for George Foreman grills? Really? Bread machines used to be $7 now they all start at $12. Saw an old and worn North Face woman's vest going for $26.99, unless they can verify that it's authentic, then it's a rip off. My understanding is that the over charging is to make up for 1/2 price Mondays, which one has to go to at 6 am to see any sort of deal because they don't restock during the da. Their saver point rewards system is a joke. The points are only good for 90 days and can't be used on Mondays. Last complaint is the place is constantly dirty, disorganized and while they always have something on sale it's never in abundance. Yellow and blue might be 50% off on one day, but good luck finding anything of value thayt has that color tag. Majority of the store is tagged green. I visited the Unique Thrift Store in Brickyard Mall. I found a cute summer dress but was unable to try on since there's no longer a fitting room. I read the return policy before completing my purchase. It clearly states you can return clothing and shoes up to a specified time frame, unless the items are on sale. There's no mention of refunds, period. The policy doesn't state that you can receive a refund, it doesn't state you cannot ( my bad I should have asked) . I went home tried the dress on and it didn't fit. I return to the store expecting my refund and am advised by Mgr. Jacob that ain't happening. I asked for his mgr but he's the only one on duty. I've been coming to this store occasionally to thrift for years. The store can be in complete disarray but today it was neat. I even found several items including the belts that I was searching for. One of the belts had a permanent indentation in the faux leather where an employee had carelessly placed the clip on hanger. Because this marred the belt in a very visible area, through the fault of the store employee, I asked for a little something off. I was buying 50.00 worth of items, I figured they wouldn't have a problem taking even 10% off of an 8.00 damaged belt. I was so WRONG. NOPE! These new young people have zero concept of customer service. I asked to speak to the manager and was met with the immovable and totally unsympathetic DEJUAN. If I'd wanted to I could have gone to the folks in the store that hide up in the birds nest and literally look down on the customers but I didn't feel like it. So I let him be the petty one in our exchange today. The fact that he is such a sour, unhappy individual that he wouldn't acknowledge and compensate for a defective item that I still wanted to buy, speaks VOLUMES. How stingy of spirit must you be to not want to provide a small discount for an item that your store employee damaged? I would have been happy with a dollar or even 50 cents off of the regular price. I'm so spoiled by the half-Monday sale, so shopping on other days of the week just isn't an option anymore. I was meeting my hubby since he was working on a call nearby. He wanted to check it out this afternoon. This is a fairly-clean and well-organized location. The venue is much bigger than the one in McKinley Park by the CTA 35th./Archer Orange line station. Thus, the shopping carts can actually pass through each aisle without too many "excuse me!" Perhaps because it wasn't a Monday, the store appeared to be peaceful and orderly. Items were neatly hung on the hangers or clamps. I can only imagine what a Monday will look like. Rosa J. is a pretty skillful thrift-shopper, but she dislikes fighting with the crowd. However, not being claustrophobic is beneficial, so she will get into a battle if she needs to. Rosa J. still likes great deals, so she will act when her next available Monday comes by. Hubby, on the other hand, purchased some kind of video game cable for $3. He believes that it was a reasonable purchase. You can find some decent things here, but as everyone stated it is extremely overpriced. I understand they are a for profit thrift, but it's getting ridiculous. They are trying to be like Goodwill. Monday they have everything half off and the rest of the week it's only one color. Before it uses to be everything 50% off, except the new items. I went in on Saturday, they had a Clothes Steamer for $14.99. They had the a similar steamer at Target for $20.00. A small brand new candle $5.00. Prices are about 75-80% of retail prices. Wouldn't let me return clothes I purchased because I was slightly outside the 14 day return window. Both items not only had the store's tag but the original tags on them and were in perfect condition but they wouldn't work with me all. I had splurged on slightly more expensive items (that I could NOT try on in store, mind you), only to discoverer they didn't fit at home. I left them in my trunk a little too long and now I'm stuck with the hassle of having to sell them to a consignment store instead of just exchanging them with my receipt. I enjoy thrifting in Chicago, and I really wish I could like Unique more. The style of women's clothing they carry is more vintage-y/ older styles if that's what you're looking for. I wouldn't come here if you're looking for trendy pieces. I've been here at least 10 times in the last year, but feel like I leave largely disappointed. Sometimes I chance upon good finds at reasonable prices (new with tags Reformation tank for $10), but often they price things too high, comparable to buying it from a retail store on sale. They do half off everything on Mondays but I find that people line up outside super early so I'm not sure it's worth waiting for that. I'm not one for thrift stores when it comes to clothing, or much else to be honest. I'm terribly OCD. However, this place is okay, and I'll stop in every so often for sh*ts and giggles as they say, or when I have some time to burn off. Overall it's organized, and clean, you can find what you're looking for. I tend to look at the nick knacks and kitchen items. This time I found one of those tea pots with the infuser, it was new in the box with instructions. Who can argue with 3.99 for this? Also found two stoneware plates with little divided sections, they look like little TV dinner plates, at first only found one, but further down on the shelf the other appeared for a few buck each also a good buy. You can use these in the microwave or oven then straight to the dishwasher, so that's convenient. Some years ago I bought a black dress there to wear to a wedding, tags on it and all. I ended up not wearing in and putting it back in their container in the parking lot. I left on all the tags, even their price tag. I hope it didn't make them wonder. I don't think I'll ever get over my thing about used clothing, just a thing with me. However, for many people this is a good budget option and the stuff here is priced well for the quality. I scored so many nice blazers and dresses from here and only spent less than $10 each. They have 50% off if you go here on Monday. 4 stars for being a godsend in finding my last minute DIY Halloween costume! This location is far better than another UTS I have been to in West Rogers Park. The aisles are wider, it is more organized by comparison, and brighter (doesn't feel like a dungeon). The only downside is that the parking lot can be a big mess to get in and out of. read more

How have I not reviewed the beloved thrift store in good old BPort? I have honestly found some gems here, but have picked through tons of junk to find it. They have 50% off Monday's, but word for the wise- get here at opening or before noon, any time after is pointless as everything is basically picked through. Also, parking within this strip mall is kinda tight- you're competing against other customers who are here for Wing Stop, Lil Cesar's, a McDonald's, a Chinese shop (Triple Crown), a Walgreens, etc....I like their racks of pins, jewelry, costume, and otherwise-- I once found an enameled shrimp and lemon wedge brooch for 99cents! Their housewares section is also quite large, a ton of dishes and plates and shot glasses. Random knick knacks a plenty. Clothes sorted sometimes by color, but always by size. I like that they tape pieces shut (like lids) so you never have to search for a companion part. Employees are not always the most kind but eh, it's a thrift store. Drop off your donations! I normally advise people to park around 28th street in the neighborhood free street parking and walk a block or two. After shopping at Unique, grab a bite to eat and make your way to Palmisano Park. I haven't checked in as much as I have been here....Hey I when you come on a Monday you are just trying to get the deals(Half priced the entire store)...so it is packed! I have found some real China that I can't wait to display and I mean the entire set for only $15 dollars and I know people may not value China like we use too but it was perfect who ever had it made sure they took care of it and I plan on doing the same thing. We have found great Easter Outfits some with the tag on for my granddaughter for less than $5 dollars. We have found leather purses and beautiful drapes in great conditions and some new for under $5 dollars. They have a large assortment of books, utensils, pictures and even kids toys! This place is not an Consignment Store it is a Thrift Store so you have to understand this is like a search or find for some great items that are there in the store. I believe if you go into it with that mindset you won't be as disappointed. I have to say they do try and place the close in order of size and colors but to be people need to understand with the amount of customers they have...people don't place things back where they found them...so that is not the store's fault. If you come early that is the best time but it is still packed. They except credit and debit cards...they also give you 7 days to return for a store credit. I have been to a few Unique Thrift Stores so don't quote me on this but I do believe they have a little changing room...if it's not this one many do...so just where leggings under my clothes because I don't know where the clothes have been...I mean that is just the truth! Children grow fast and we found 2 bags and 20 dollars with tax worth of baby clothes for my grandson. Another thing is bring your own bags because you are charged for bags since the Chicago Bag Tax. I also think if you are going for glass things bring something you can wrap it in because they only have paper which may not protect your purchase. Now besides Monday they have other half price things depending on the color everyday but remember on Monday it is very congested at each location because everything is half priced. I'm quite certain the manager of this particular Unique Thrift is either 10 months pregnant and nesting, or has OCD. Read: It's more organized than some stores that sell new crap, like Target or Marshall's, or TJ Maxx. Now, I realize that isn't saying a whole lot...but if you've been to a few Unique Thrift's in your day, you know they can be a hot mess most of the time, jam-packed with mothbally sweaters and snot-laden children. This Bridgeport one, it's sparklin'. Organized by color, plenty of room to walk between aisles, CLEAN, and un-frantical. No crazy mothers screeching down the aisles running into people with carts. In fact, we sort of guessed this would be the case strolling in 10/30 around 2pm with last minute Halloween shoppers and it being a Saturday and all. But nope, quite civilized. However, this comes at a price. My goblin selected perhaps the ugliest combo of paisley shirt and rug-type glitter vest, and each piece was....$5.99!? Are they crazy!? This stuff is so ugly/dated, it should be about $1. No more! But, he was last minute and needed the makings of a hot Jan Skylar on the quick, so he wasn't as concerned about price, I suppose. Do note that it does seem a bit pricier than other UTs, but you do get a nice, spiffy clean place to shop, organized and easy to find whatever crap you may be seeking, and minimal crazies. They do have the classic UT deals with different colored tags, etc and of course they STAPLE the tags into the clothes (never understand that, it makes HOLES in them, people!). However, the parking lot is a HOT MESS. It's kind of narrow and disfigured and is shared by shoppers at Walgreens, McDonald's and a few other strip mall stores. I think that I appreciate Unique a little bit more than most simply because I avoid the clothing. I'm a fat man who already knows it's impossible to find anything in my size, so once I look past that, every other section here is a veritable gold mine of discounts and nostalgia. 80% of my purchases here are in the categories of books and games. I once picked up practically the entire Peanuts collection of books for less than $3. I magically found replacements for some of the Dan Brown books I'd lent to others (and let's face it, the man only has 4 books out - plus the new one that's not Unique-findable yet). And the random other finds that came out of the book selection include Scott Adams (the guy who draws Dilbert) and some comedy books from Dave Barry, Tim Allen and Bill Cosby. If you can wade through the scores of trashy romance novels, you'll find some good books in there. And the games! I've found so many old games from my childhood, including Life, Double Trouble, 13 Dead End Drive, Clue, Trivial Pursuit (many varieties), Probe, Stratego, and so many more. And they're so cheap!! Only once have I purchased a game that was missing some of its original pieces - most of the time they do a good job checking that before they put games out to be sold. Same goes with appliances. You're free to plug things into test outlets to make sure they work before taking them home. We recently decided to adopt a $6 bread machine and several loaves later, we're in no way regretting taking the chance. Their kitchen appliance section is nestled by the shoes for some reason, just to the right of the immense selection of cups and plates and silverware that had also led to some awesome finds. My favorites are finding not one but TWO Gevalia-brand ceramic coffee-storage containers. And my favorite mug that looks like a glass barrel with a wooden handle that reads "BELLY BUSTER" across it. Some of the electronics seem dodgy or not quite worth the price, but that's what 25% off and 50% off color tags are for. Hit the right day and you can get it for half price. Or just on a Monday - but I enjoy avoiding the crowds so I avoid Mondays here. Lastly, shop for the random things you'll find on top of the aisleways or scattered throughout some of the standing sections. That's how I found my giant body pillow shaped like a catfish. His name is Herbert and he cost $1. He's my unofficial mascot of Unique Thrift Store, reminding me that anything can happen at Unique and you never know what you'll wind up coming home with. read more

In a small mall so it's easy to get in and out. The racks were surprisingly pretty organized when I dropped by. Pricier than other thrift stores, but the quality is prolly better too. The kicker for me though was when I was leaving and eyeing a $45 pink (and frivolous) "coach" purse behind the valuable loots counter. I asked a sales lady to help me look at it. She wouldn't let me leave the counter area to look at a mirror. That was Unique policy. But she more than made up for it. She got me a ridiculously small mirror and held it up for a better angle. Then she told me how that purse was gonna be gone in no time, cause so many customers were eyeing it. Then she did the favor of explaining to me how the purse was fake. And she would know cause her other prior purchases were fake. I was puzzled b/c it was so cute (pink!), and cause I know you could likely buy a new fake one for a similar price. Lol. Then I took a better look at the inside fabric, and noticed it was the wrong type of lining for a Coach purse. I just looked at her and said, "Thank you for taking the time to help me so much." (I meant to say thank you for not almost letting me pay full price for a used knock off!) She replied warmly, "You're welcome, it's my job to help the consumer, either way." I walk in, perfectly innocent and with no intentions to steal anything and the first thing I'm told is that I have to leave my backpack at the counter. This is nothing short of an affront. If they can't trust me not to steal their mostly crappy clothes why should I trust them not to steal stuff out of my back-pack? To compound the insult, it took close to ten minutes for someone to arrive at the counter to return my back-pack when I was done and ready to leave the store. Not only is this tactic an unforgivable insult, it discourages people from carrying their own bags which is something we should all be doing by now right? read more

I've never seen this much rack in one room in my whole life! This place is nuts. It's literally a room full of rack with various crap piled on top. I had trouble navigating that isles as the only thing I saw with any sort of signage was the boys clothes. There was towels, sheets, jackets, coats, shoes, bags, housewares and jeans. Oh the jeans.... I saw jeans in three or 4 different places with absolutely no sex or size labels in sight. I didn't have the time to scour like I usually would but I did see a couple pairs of Apple Bottoms so consider this place A-Ok in my book. read more

I'm talking about getting there at about 6:10 a.m. I haven't done thrift shopping since my hippie days back in the sixties and seventies when Goodwill was the only place in town. I could not believe the selection and the quality and the brands and the prices. Monday is half off of everything. I bought 10 pieces for less than $30. There are no fitting rooms so you just have to guess. I figured that a few of the items would either have to be returned or given to someone else. Each and every piece fit well. I was going to start my review out by saying I felt the quality of merchandise has gone from stellar to boring at this location in the past few years and I wasnt sure what the reason was. Then I read the other reviews. Now I know why - its too damn popular and everyone is getting the good stuff before me!! Dammit. There once was a time that the vintage selection of this store was bad-ass and I always left with two armfuls of stuff for like $25. I am lucky enough to have Mondays off from work!~ Why does that make me lucky, you ask? Because MONDAYS ARE HALF PRICE DAY at Unique Thrift. Everything, and I mean everything in the store, is half price! I get down and dirty in this store. Sometimes I finish round one, load up the car, and go back for more. Apparently there is a line when they open. These are the folks that want the furniture, lamps, artwork, and other big items. Me? I don't do early! Go anytime on Monday and load up with great deals that are of pretty good quality. Just don't blame me if you're arm is killing you from carrying all of those finds!! P.S. I wasn't sure what to expect because that was the first Unique location I've been to. There was a strange stench the moment I walked in, but thanks to olfactory fatigue, you don't notice it after a few minutes. It was kind of a hot mess when we got there. There were things strewn on the floor and on top of racks, but I don't really care about things like that since it just makes the hunt that much more interesting. All the Unique stores have a store wide 50% off sale on Mondays so it was a pretty good deal. The selection isn't all too amazing. There are some mid-high brands that you run across, but for the most part it's a lot of random, junky tops, dresses, bottoms, etc. I didn't find any gems, but I found some decent pieces that I can see myself wearing on a day to day basis. I found a 12 month shirt from Children's Place ($2), a Chicago baseball jersey ($3), tons of socks ($0.40 each) and some material ($3). When I took everything up to the counter, it turns out that it was half price day. Whoo hoo! I got all that and a few extra things for $7. I was just at the outlet mall in Aurora and saw a similar children's shirt for $16 full price and $6 at the outlet. I got mine for $1 in perfect condition. =) I will be returning. read more
