    Apple butter ....
    Dave D.

Uh ... really uh. I am sitting here debating changing my 3 to a 2 but I am giving this little corner dining area inside an Amish Market place the benefit of a 'closing at 2pm' for the holiday excuse even though we are sitting down to eat at 11am. Breakfast ... well, I am one of the millions of Americans who really enjoy breakfast out even though it is a relatively simple meal to prepare at home. One reason, give me service ... take care of me on my day off and make me feel special. Fill up my coffee cup; give me a good portion of food with a nice list of options, and pay attention to me because I am paying you. First, this dining corner is not exactly a warm and fuzzy location ... well, it's not really warm on cold days because it seems to pull in the cold winds from outdoors when the relatively near by doors open. In addition, it is set basically in an Amish grocery store so don't plan on whispering sweet nothings to the love of your life enhance the dreamy look in each other's eyes. Service was clearly secondary during this visit ... the menu was sort of tossed onto the table and coffee refills were an after thought where the thinking only occurred when they heard my voice say ....'excuse me, could I have a little more coffee please.' Megan's Breakfast Burrito was rather empty ... perhaps its intended filling was already packed away for the weekend. Som here's the good part ,,,, in their collection of Smuckers' jellies and jams they had Apple Butter (Very Amish of them) packets. A nice touch. The sausage was tasty .... since meat products are sold 50 feet away you have to assume that fresh is the operative word for the meats and my pancakes were pancakes. The wait staff was gathered at the register, which is where I asked what time they were closing since it was quite obvious that they were more interested in each other. I thought that they were closing as we checked out but no they had another 2 plus hours to go. So ... uh is the answer and I'll leave this little corner with that middle of the road 3 stars but leaning downwards. My suggestion is to look around for excellence when you eat breakfast out and not just settle.

This Amish Market IS smaller than the Williamstown one, but I think this one is better! First, The donuts! There are so many different options to choose from when picking your favorite donut. For me, the basic white cream is my first option! Another good one is the smores, as well as the blueberry fritter! Each shop is it's own, so you can browse the store/counters and then pay there before moving onto the next one! There is plenty of different options to choose from like fresh meats, candy, bread, sweets, cheese, pretzels, fruits and veggies, and even handmade soap! You can pretty much find anything that you need, right here! This is a great alternative to driving out to Lancaster PA, but the Lancaster experience is definitely better. Everyone is friendly here. The store is literally ALWAYS packed since they are only open Thursday-Saturday. There is plenty of parking, but the lot does fill up fast! Overall, the atmosphere is very nice, just be prepared to be crammed in while browsing. They also have a restaurant to sit and dine in and they do take-out. I've heard that they have some really good food here!

It's set at a farm, not under train tracks where the train comes every thirty minutes over your head whistling your nervous system off kilter while your fighting to talk to a basket maker over the loud barreling of 78 to 234 short tons over your head. It's a dirt filled underpass with nothing beautiful to look at except some nice vendors with baked goods and organic produce and planting herbs and flowers. Not allot of selection compared to Burlington County Farmers Market and al lot of the vendors that are there are also at the one I just mentioned, plus you get the music from the live musicians that you can actually sit down and listen to while you look over at a sheep grazing in a field next to the working farm to your right. Was not impressed at all... They should move this whole operation to the park which is very close by and would totally change the ambiance which would be more fitting to the subject matter.

The food alone is worth the trip! The giant BBQ turkey leg with mashed potatoes and gravy is a must-try. The ribs are also outstanding. One tip: eat first, then spend the rest of the day walking the market to help burn off all those delicious calories! We'll definitely be back.

It was surprising to me that I hadn't reviewed this market yet. Upon reflection it did occur to me…read morethat my last visit was close to a few decades ago. I was derelict in my Yelping of this institution for far too long. I was here seeking out Amish cottage cheese which I haven't been able to get at the Trenton farmers market for many years. I knew it would be located in the Amish wing but I needed to walk the rest of the building too. I entered that section to find crowds of people everywhere. To view the prepared hot foods would have required standing in a long line just to eventually get close enough to peek at the cases. I found the cottage cheese prepackaged and decided to walk around the rest of the place before returning to make a few purchases. There were so many temptations in the Amish part, pretzels, prepared salad items, donuts, baked goods in general and of course the meats. The rest of Columbus has treasures to be found as well, depending on your outlook. Discount over the counter drugs, health and beauty, craft soda and pickles, clothes of all kinds, shoes, housewares. I could probably go on. Really something for everyone. My stroll took me past a chicken shop that once I caught the smell of its fried goods, I knew I'd be trying on my way back. At the far end where other food stalls are I saw a taqueria that I plan on trying next trip. With a bag full of fried goodness I was no longer concerned about the Amish foods. I grabbed the cottage cheese and walked out with just a bit of regret that I didn't snag a donut or a dozen. I popped into the produce building just to see what was there. Nice looking veggies but most were sold in bulk. Towards the end of this building is a seafood market that I've heard good things about. Now I have more reasons to return. 4.5 stars !
