Running through Albion, NY, with family at lunch time, my mom had a gift certificate for Village House Restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised, impressed with the experience! The parking lot here is plenty big and there were plenty of spots when we pulled in around 12:30pm on a Thursday. The building isn't fancy, the interior comes off a little dated (men's bathroom could use a deep clean) but it's surprisingly spacious with plenty of tables and booths. We walked in and were greeted by a friendly young woman at a counter who grabbed a couple menus and led the two of us to a booth. It didn't take long for our waitress to come over with waters and gave us a few minutes to browse the menu. Be ready to have some decision paralysis as this menu is HUGE! There're tons of sandwiches, burgers, wraps, melts, salads, entrees, etc., in addition to the daily specials. My mom had been here a few times before for work lunches, so she already knew what she wanted, but it took me a second. Our waitress was incredibly courteous, pleasant and she was plenty patient with me! Our waitress made sure to check on us periodically throughout our meal. Once our orders were placed, we sat and chatted for maybe 10-15 minutes before our food came out - I was very surprised how quick it was! For lunch, I ordered the BBQ Chicken Finger Super Melt with a side of french fries. The description of the BBQ Chicken Finger Super Melt is pretty self-explanatory: crispy chicken fingers covered in BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheddar jack cheese between grilled sourdough with a side of ranch dressing to dip in. It may sound basic, but wow, this was REALLY tasty! There had to be three or four meaty chicken fingers in there and they were fresh out of the fryer. There was a generous amount of a sweeter-style BBQ sauce on the chicken fingers but it wasn't overpowering. Between chewy and crispy, the bacon leaned chewier but still had a little crisp to it, no complaints from me. This super melt was super cheesy, delish! The cup of ranch on the side was an awesome touch - I drizzled a bit on top before each bite. And the side of french fries were excellent - Right out of the fryer hot and perfectly golden crispy, one of the better side of fries I've had in a long time. For around $13.00 (as of 05/2026), this quality and size of the melt with fries was excellent, I was perfectly full as we paid for our meal at the front counter. Village House Restaurant - Albion NY We should have just gone down the road to Taco Bell or McDonald's. We would have been more satisfied. Fries were cold, burger was burnt. Chicken finger dinner came with 4 fingers and a handful of fries. BLT was nothing special. Pretty sure they used microwave bacon. (We could hear how many times they used the microwave while we sat there) Iced tea tastes like it was made from a powder. I highly discourage people eating here. We were charged for an extra side that was supposed to be included in our meal and our server SYD seemed to hide in the kitchen after giving us our bill. They claimed that the extra side charge was an UPCHARGE for substituting fries for onion rings. CHECK YOUR BILLS!! Make sure it adds up right!! The food was good, the service was pretty quick at the outset but our beverage refills were very few and far between. We were thirsty but not so much as to flag someone down. Patrons and staff alike were coming over to enjoy our baby; she's a very happy baby who loves to meet new people. Our experience took a downhill turn when our infant needed a diaper change; the restrooms don't have a changing table. She was just wet, and (because she's fully breastfed) her diapers have no smell to them, so, given we had finished our meals, we changed her on our table. We put the diaper and used wipes in a plastic bag we brought just for such instances and threw it in the restroom trash. No staff came near our table after that, despite that we had a card out for the check and were waiting for someone to take it. (Cash out at the front, by the way - but we had to figure that out ourselves, the staff were no help.) (The bathroom was cramped, but a few small touches would have helped a lot. Also, a changing table could easily fit in the handicapped stall of the ladies' room. The restroom was a tad dingy and could have used a proper clean.) As we were chatting, we could overhear some rude and vulgar commentary by the staff in the back. Go on and gripe, but please, don't make your crass language heard across the restaurant. When we went to the front to leave, the hostess cashing us out asked if we changed our baby at the table. Yes, we replied, because there was nowhere else to change her given there were no changing tables in the restrooms. Apparently someone complained about the smell. Hmmm, interesting; I get the feeling it was a flatulent patron (or, more likely, staff member) that complained. And yet, the hostess persisted that we did something wrong without telling us where we should have changed the baby. She continued to speak to us condescendingly without providing a solution. Fine, your establishment doesn't have room for well-behaved children? We won't be back. read more

Terrible service! I was embarrassed to say the least! The waitress was an older lady. She got our drinks, asked what we wanted to order, we ordered appetizers. She never came back to ask if we wanted anything else. When she came with the appetizers... 35 minutes later, the menus still infront of us and asked if we wanted to order anything else. We declined! Never once checked our drinks.. she seemed all over the place and they weren't even busy! Toward the end of the visit my friend and I both smelled gas. Ate there a few days ago with my Wife and Grandson. I ordered the Lasagna dinner special. Food was fantastic and I had enough to take home and have another meal. My Wife had Village burger cooked to perfection. My Grandson orders the same thing wherever we go, chicken tenders and fries. All the food was great. Service was great and prices were great. I generally only get the breakfast items, so if you're looking for some other stuff about food you're reading the wrong review... so: the breakfast is good, I wouldn't consider it anything special though. Finally! Restaurant soup where the main ingredient isn't a 40 pound bag of water softener rock salt! I don't usually order soup in a restaurant anymore because the only thing I can taste is salt, but I took a chance today and the chicken noodle soup was not overly salty. On top of that, there was more chicken in my bowl than a case of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, reminiscent of the formula Greek family restaurants back in Milwaukee. The place was neat and clean, brightly lit, and welcoming. The wait staff was cheerful and friendly and they made me feel like I'm a regular. I was just passing through town and the chances of me ever coming back are pretty slim. I ordered an egg salad sandwich, encouraged by the really good one I had in a different small city a week prior. It was fine although it was too large for me and I wound up taking half of it with me. That became my lunch the next day. If I do ever find my way back to Albion, I will consider returning here. read more

So, I have lived in Albion most of my life there used to be other restaurants that were sit down until they closed and village house bought the properties and let them sit for years on end so they wouldn't have any competition. the lot next to them and what used to be the crooked door now risen cafe after the liquor license expired. the tavern on the ridge is a decent place smaller menu but the food is good the village house has always mediocre and since high school I have heard about cockroaches from my cousins that worked there to everyone. they spend all that money on the outside but none on the inside it seemed no new seating no kitchen improvements nothing that is a mindset that says no competition no need to change. I have ordered things in the past like a stir fry dish that was seemed like they dumped everything into a bowl and it became a soup and other things that were disappointing and horrid. I hope they get the message but they won't they have had 5 critical violations over the years and 8 non-critical violations over the years. competition breeds improvements and innovation but no competition breeds complacency and becomes stagnant. I really want great food in Albion but I believe that won't happen not for a long while. get better be better. read more

This place has typical diner food with an expansive menu. We've been here many, many times because it's local. The things you can't goof up (Breakfast items like eggs, toast, etc.) are always good. Coffee is horrible (weak) like a normal cheap Greek diner. Lunch and dinner items are hit or miss. My suggestion is to get something that actually requires some creativity or cooking, because everything else is just frozen stuff from the restaurant supply chain and isn't any different than the next place down the street. I've learned what to pick here to make it an OK place to go. Pick your meal wisely! read more

Now that my in-laws live just down the street, I'm sure that we'll be seeing more of the Village House. Their mid-week breakfast specials cannot be beat. Insanely cheap deals for the quantity and quality of food that they're putting out. We did go for dinner one night, and it was not as great as breakfast. Unlike Atlanta, all the places in the area have homestyle Italian entrees on the menu. So while the veal parmesan that I had was fine (not exceptional) by the standard of what I'm able to get in Atlanta, it was a little too breaded by my father-in-law's standards. The side salad was your typical iceberg/romaine with red cabbage and carrot blend, a few tomatoes and red onion added. The other food was good too. I am not sure if I remember the name but it was on a menu for Sunday's . Ate here two days in a row with group of four. Found it to be very clean and was greeted and seated immediately. Food was very good and reasonably priced. We all had breakfast foods but each had something different but all meals came out at the same time and all were hot. One ordered steak and eggs and the steak was full of grissle and silver skin that could not be seen before trying to eat it and when we informed the manager he took care of it on the spot and comp that persons meals they definitely take care of their customers and are very friendly. They do not hover but are very attentive. I can only comment on their breakfast food and i will stop their for breakfast when in town. read more

Have eaten here many times over the years. Service is hit or miss, food is good but not great. We were recently here while in town visiting family and again the service was ok, not good or even great. Waitress was friendly enough but we never got refills on our drinks and we had to wait awhile for the check. Food is good but not great, haven't ever eaten anything bad here but then again have never eaten anything great here either. Stopped by for lunch, and was really surprised by the variety on the menu. As a rule, I don't usually hold high hopes for small town diners. What a pleasant surprise to have such good food at reasonable prices. My wife and stepmother told me that they both enjoyed their meals, and my French Dip sandwich and French Onion soup were quite tasty. The menu offers a wide variety of interesting meals, and I'm looking forward to trying them out. Portions are ample, and service was good. I noticed that several people gave bad reviews after multiple visits. If it was that bad, why return? If you have any doubt, try it for yourself. I intend to return for more. read more

This place was horrible. Both the salad and the coleslaw was soggy and definitely old. My speghetti was extremely watered down and the garlic bread was burn. The chicken was the only good thing. My group has been coming here for over a decade. And every time we walk in, we are greeted with a smiling face. Right there, that's a plus. We love, love, love our server Dianne. Always smiling, always as sweet as sweet can be. The food is very good - breakfast and lunch (we never have tried dinner, but I'm sure it's very good too, if it compares with the breakfast and lunch quality). The Village House is attentive to dining experience, inquiring if we were happy with our meal. I would definitely recommend dining here - a friendly environment with good food. I've never had any problems at all with the restaurant before my last trip. I've always enjoyed the large menu and speedy service. However, when I ordered Penne with Chicken & Veggies, I was very disappointed. If I remember the description on the menu correctly, the words "olive oil" and "garlic sauce" we're used. (I'm not 100%, but I can't see myself ordering it if it had said otherwise.) But what I tasted seemed like penne tossed with Italian dressing and veggies from a freezer bag of frozen stir fry mix. I was very disappointed with my meal. It won't stop me from returning and ordering meals I've had before and liked, but it was too bad that I have to now associate what I considered a bad dish with the restaurant. read more

Admittedly I have not tried that many different dishes here because it is the only place in Orleans county that I have found so far that makes a proper Monte Cristo sandwich. I will take my family here on Saturday every few weeks because we love one of their Saturday soups, Wisconsin Cheddar. We also love their pies for dessert. I did have one bad meal there. I ordered the Shrimp and Pasta Alfredo (which I often order at other restaurants), and the shrimp still had the tails on them. I couldn't believe I had to search through the pasta dish and dig the shrimp out with my fingers and take the tails off. Oh well, I am hoping it was just an oversight during the food preparation. The atmosphere at Village House seems nice, and the prices seem competitive for this kind of restaurant, but the bill gets a little too high for us now that our two boys are getting older. The four of us share two slices of pie and the bill for the entire lunch usually ends up in the mid 40's. We like it enough to keep coming back, but that bill makes it so that our trips aren't as frequent as they used to be. When we first moved back up north, we found that the meals here were comparable to what we were getting down south at places like TGI Fridays, but the Village House bill was much smaller. I don't know if their prices rose, or if our boys appetites are just making the bill get higher. In summary, the food here keeps us coming back, but the bill makes it less frequent. read more
