When we arrived, we couldn't tell if they were still in business. But we went in and it was quite clean. We got seated quickly... obviously. Our server was very friendly but, for no one else being there, not attentive at all. At one point, she said she'd leave the bill "in case I forget about you." What? How could you forget about your only customers? She certainly figured it out because I had to go looking for ketchup. Then the food came. The chicken cobb salad was pretty good. The "adult" grilled cheese was just bread with a decent amount of bacon and a slice of tomato. They basically had slapped 1 cheese square on there and called it good. NOT good! So, against my usual nature, I complained. The manager, I assume because she was wearing a different uniform, said she would make me a new one. She gets the second star. But really, she just slapped 2 cheese squares on and called that good. Just a hint... when CHEESE is the main word in the name of the dish, there should be a LOT of it. Like, it should be oozing out on each side! Not sure how a cook feels good about sending that out to a customer. read more

We were in Fort Dodge for a family member's memorial service. I was not thrilled when my family picked Village Inn, but by the time we were done, we were all so happy with it. I always seemed to think they were kind of over-priced, but that simply was not true. The food was great and the waitress did an amazing job. I was with about 5 other people and we all left very happy. Cold but very happy - the air was on way too cold on that night - but I know some other customers were addressing that as well and they were trying to fix it. read more

Terrible service and very slow. Watch a few tables get food before use when we had our order in before them. Staff never checked in on us after we received our order. I had to track down a supervisor for a recipient to pay. For all of the waiting the food was just so so. read more

There were four tables of people there. When we were seated we got to share one menu because I'm sure that between four tables of patrons there wasn't a menu to spare for us each to have our own. I overheard a table across the room tell the server that they hadn't ordered yet and had been there over twenty five minutes. I ordered decaf coffee and it showed up lukewarm. There were no servers around so my husband took the carafe back to the kitchen where our server told him that it would take six to seven minutes. After twelve minutes I went back to the kitchen and spoke to a cook who filled a carafe immediately. It took another thirty five minutes for our food to arrive. I ordered double blueberry pancakes and my husband ordered chicken fried steak and eggs. When the server brought the food she asked us if we needed anything else. Yes the blueberry goop, butter, syrup and Tobasco for my husband's eggs. These were things we asked for when we ordered. Why ask customers if they want additional things to go with their food if the server isn't going to bring them. This is my very first bad review but the service was so lousy and there wasn't even a mention of not charging for the cold coffee. We have previously eaten at Village Inn on Saturday and Sunday mornings when they are super busy and they have always had excellent service. This was a very disappointing experience. read more

Nothing like going into village inn at 11pm for some pancakes and pie. Only been a couple times that they got my order wrong but we're more than happy to fix it read more

Definitely a step above a Denny's. The decor was friendly and updated, and the breakfast menu was large. Service was quick and friendly. Only complaint was that the pancakes seemed smaller than my last visit home (which was a very long time ago). I'll also have to try their national award winning pies before we leave. read more

Great choices. Love the pick 4 for a great price I had 2 Poached eggs, country potatoes, rye toast, and a dish of fresh fruit (melons and grapes). And a great choice of green teas. I am a healthy eater. So there were great healthy choices. Only needed half of the toast because the are thick slices but delicious. My husband had crispy bacon, over easy eggs Country potatoes, and English muffin for his pick 4. We shared a piece of delicious cherry pie. read more

Pie Wednesday could be as Fantastic as Perkins, if Village Inn would offer any of their pies on the menu and not just the tierd old fruit pies. Last time we had a family meal it took over 40 mins before it left the kitchen, and very poor service. I think Perkins will be our New V.I. from now on!!! read more

Good food for the most part. They are often times out of something you might order. Service is friendly, but good be a bit quicker.

The food was horrible. I ordered a reuben sandwich with onion rings. The sandwich was dry and tasteless, the onion rings were overcooked. Other customers in my party were not happy with their meals either. My wife ordered a chicken sandwich with avocado but there was no avocado in her sandwich. The water was bad, it tasted like chlorine. The least they could do was give us bottled water instead of the horrible city water. At .25 cents a bottle from Aldi, it couldn't be a major expense to them. I told the cashier about my sandwich being dried out and tasteless and she didn't care. The waitress who waited on us was overworked. The other waitress was just sitting around doing nothing. Our waitress, Lizzie, tried very hard and was the only good thing about the place. If they keep her, get rid of the other waitress, the cook and the cashier, the place would be much better. The food was also very expensive, I payed over $80 dollars out the door. This place is a cheap imitation of Denny's and Ihop restaurants but with a price tag from Colton's. Stay away if you want good food at a fair price. read more
