Good food super good prices. Staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is very friendly. Definitely a good local spot.

We actually got ours to go as we had two pups along with us. The interior is a small area for seating but the decor was fitting... The place was packed!! The "fastfood" was at a level above fastfood in taste but the pricing made it an excellent value! The Texas Burrito, two Tacos, and Chili Cheese Tico Tots were very good! Service was both quick and friendly. The Cherry Empanadas were the only thing that surprised us as we were expecting them to be a traditional shape and Empanada crust. They were still very good and we'd order them again though. Overall a great experience. read more

Horrible food. The drive-through lady was very nice, but the young kids working the food line were terrible. Four out of six items were incorrect. My chicken quesadilla was missing the creamy jalapeño sauce--apparently because no one wanted to open a new bag. I know this because my tacos were also missing the same sauce, and when I went inside, they had to go get a new one. It just felt lazy all around. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I'm not a local nor do I come from the state of Iowa... so you're gonna get an outsider opinion here. I love coming to a place whose drive thru is a constant river of support. It's the best sign you've been missing out on something epic. This is a place where the tacos and various hot sauces do all the talking. I got the Pork Taco times three and now that I'm 2 plus hours away I hate myself for not getting way more... and their hot sauce isn't too insane but has a sweet kick to the rear taste that will define how great your taco will be. Pretty large menu an various platters to choose from. I opted for the seasonal Pork Tacos and they blew me away. I can understand why this place put other taco chains out of business... this place be the real deal. Not authentic Mexican but unique enough to steal the show from many other restaurants. read more

Tacos are much better than Taco Bell, very consistent with the generous portion of meat in the taco, the meat is tasty and shells always crispy and fresh. I only go to Fort Dodge when I have to, like when an employee doesnt do their job and I have to go sort through the rubble and try to salavge whatever profits remain Do you know what a Tico is? It has nothing to do with tacos and Tex-Mex food. A Tico is a Costa Rican male. I know this from having spent time in Costa Rica on a missions trip, trying my best to convince people to fall in love with Jesus. Not the helpless, infant baby Jesus but the tattooed, sword weilding, robe dipped in blood, pissed off Jesus from the book of Revelation. Not an easy task mind you. So when I see Tico, I immeadiatly think Costa Rica. Urban dictionary defines Tico as this. 1)The self appointed slang term Costaricans chose for themselves. 2)The Embodiment of latin flavor and zest for life. A "Tico" is easily the most amazing person you will ever have the astounding pleasure of meeting. They have a very care free outlook on life guided by the "Pura Vida" saying. A tico knows good food, good women, and most of all good drink. The perfect example is their local beer "Imperial". Tico's can party, they are smart, they are charming and funny. All around damn near perfect. Now the ones that I have meet are far from perfect but the burrito I had at Taco Tico was damn close. Seriously. I ordered the combo burrito with chili and and half order of chips and queso. Two things right off the bat. It wasn't the sexiest presentation that I've ever seen and the chili had beans in it which I am not a fan of BUT I could eaten my weight of that chili it was so damn delicious and I don't know what voodoo they wrapped in that tortilla but I haven't been this happy with "fast food" or any Mexican/Tex Mex meal in along time. Same thing applies to the queso. It wasn't the standard white runny cheese but more like the stuff you make at home with Velveeta and Rotel. I'm not saying that's what it was because it was so much better but appearance wise I think you understand. This meal far exceeded my expectations and will make any future trips to Fort Dodge allot less painful and even something I may look forward to. I love it when shit like this happens. This place must be a local favorite because it is packed from open to close. Most of the food is reasonably priced and pretty tasty. Do not come here looking for traditional Mexican cuisine as Taco Tico makes Taco Bell look authentic in comparison. read more

Having a hard time reconciling the food we ate and my memories of food. As a young person and even in visiting Fort Dodge twenty years ago, I loved Taco Tico! The food we got this trip was not bad but just was not the same. I don't know what has changed exactly but the meat itself tastes different. Like I said it was fine just not the same. read more

If you haven't eaten here, you just won't understand. I don't understand how Taco Bell or Taco John's could even hope to compete against Taco Tico. It's the best fast Mexican food anywhere, not just in Fort Dodge. Anytime we're in the area we plan at least one meal here. Beginners, just get the Tico Dinner - a great sampler, includes a taco, an enchilada, chips, beans, cheese...add a coupe softshell tacos, maybe a smothered sancho... It's all good. Best Tex-Mex restaurant in the area! I recommend the Deluxe Enchilada and the Taco Burger! I like how they have a separate condiment bar for your veggies and sauces. Try to get their early or you may have a hard time finding a spot to sit. Low key quiet restaurant. Great place to bring the kiddos! They do have a drive thru and carry-out services. Taco Tico has been my favorite place to eat for more than 40 years. The Deluxe Enchillada is the bomb and the Beef Burritos rock as well!!! The extra hot sauce has just the right amount of kick and the green chili sauce is great on chips with the refried beans. You really can't go wrong ordering anything on the menu. read more

Dude. I love Tico. I am living in San Diego now but whenever I come home to Iowa I make a trip to Tico at least once during my stay but usually twice. I always go with my sister and now with her three (young) girls. We all have a good time and the food is always excellent. I have never gotten my meal and been bummed. I always get a cheese quesadilla and nachos with extra cheese sauce. I haven't had a bad experience with service either, which makes it even better. I would recommend going here. Especially if you like cheese quesadillas. They really need one here in San Diego. read more

I worked here through high school and college summers a little over a decade ago. The staff is wonderful and caring. The food is always great. Classic stop for me when I attended Iowa Central in Fort Dodge. Every time I go back to Dirty Dodge, I have to stop here to eat. They have the best chicken enchilada. Good food for a good price. It's a very simple restaurant, so don't expect to be blown away. Most food is served on Styrofoam plates, to give you an example of the atmosphere. I currently live in Austin TX where anything from authentic Mexican to awesome corner gas station taco trucks to quality TexMex is always available a stones throw away. It's bland Mexican food with a midwestern "flair." It's not exceptional, it's not authentic. It is however the thing that cravings are made of. What White Castle is to the hamburger this is to Mexican cuisine. I got turned on to Taco Tico from my fiancee who is a Fort Dodge native. It is interwoven with the culture of the area, and is adored by the locals. For us no visit to the area would be complete without a stop for the Tico Dinner Plate with a Smothered Sancho. I guess this is a love it or leave it place -- I personally don't care for Taco Tico. Seems to be a place that mostly locals like to enjoy - just too bland for me and too much cheese. I've lived in Fort Dodge for five years and every time someone convinces me to eat here I regret it two bites in. It is however clean, the staff and customers are friendly, and they have a great condiment bar. You'll just need about 5-6 cups of salsa to cover up the blandness of the food. But if you ever meet someone from Fort Dodge don't tell them you don't like Taco Tico . . . they'll spend the next 20 min trying to convince you that you're wrong. Tico: a colloquial name for a native of Costa Rica. Does the name make sense? No. What does make sense is the decision to fill your mouth with spectacular Amerexican food at this local establishment. While I cannot vouch for the origin or contents of the seasoned meat mixture, I can vouch for the delight that will take over your body when you bite into Tico's crunchy beef tacos. They have the perfect meat to tortilla to lettuce ratio, with just the right amount of hot sauce (go for the mild, thank me later). I cannot give input to the taste of the tomatoes, because I am a man and do not eat tomatoes. However, the lettuce is fresh and serves its duty as a hot sauce delivery platform. Inside the dining area you will find a meager but manageable salsa bar to dress up your bounty if you choose to brave the -30 wind chill conditions of central Iowa. Will the food take you back to your trip to Cabo after junior year of college? No. Will it fill you up and leave you smiling on your way home through corn fields? Yes. They're $0.99 each.
