On our daughters very first day of school, her teachers, Ms. Serena and Ms. Malih were so caring and thoughtful with her. She was nervous to be there and didn't want us to leave in the morning. Ms. Serena took her by the hand and spoke gently with her, and made her feel more comfortable. We knew we were leaving our daughter in good hands that morning, and the positive experiences continued on until our last day of school. The office staff is very friendly, and always makes me feel as if I'm part of the MCS family when I talk to them on the phone, or see them in person in the office. Whenever I stop by the office with my daughter, Ms. Galina goes out of her way to say hi to her and often gives her a warm hug and sometimes a sticker =) I would highly recommend Montessori Childrens School to my anyone I know that I is looking for a wonderful, caring place for the children to go to school / daycare, or anyone that plans to continue with the Montessori teaching philosophy.

When we first started looking for a daycare, I wanted a play-based non-chain environment. DLC was super close to our house, and I loved the philosophies I read on their website. They use exclusion and isolation as means of perpetual punishment, so that those outside of their clique are always in trouble, and desperate for their approval. They've established a Kafkaesque system where some students are always guilty of one infraction or another. The infraction is never clear, guilt is assumed, and the means of clearing oneself is impossible to discern. The proceedings against them continue night and day. If your family holds progressive values, especially if they are young girls, or if you or your children identify as LGBTQ, then the woke, young, predominantly female teachers will immediately accept your children into their social clique. From that moment forward, all of your child's actions will be acceptable, and the teachers will always take their side. If your family holds traditional values, if your child is a typical boy with energy who enjoys playing sports, or if you believe you may bristle against the abuse of authority of a high school mean girl clique drunk on power, then this school is not for you. We've hated it here for years. We've been trying to leave California, and we didn't want to change schools before leaving state, and then change again after leaving. We wanted our children to have the stability of being at the same school and having the same friends. We're finally leaving California, so we can be done with this school. My wife wanted our children to have the best education possible, and was excited when our children got into this school. Our nephews also attend. When the obvious pattern of control, manipulation, and social exclusion by the staff became clear, my wife denied it for years. She explained to me in the middle of the night how she felt, and it echoed what I've been saying all along. Our most recent experience finally convinced her. My 14 year old was so excited to go on an overnight field trip with his classmates one last time before we move. Last year, he was excluded from all field trips for the second half of the school year as a punishment for calling someone "gay." We assumed his punishment would end with the end of the school year. The field trip was scheduled for Tuesday. Apparently, the teachers communicated to him that he may be disinvited from all field trips this year, too, but they never told that to my wife and me. At school, he spent the entire day on Monday asking his teachers whether he's allowed to go. They told him over and over again that they hadn't decided yet and needed to have a meeting. On Monday night, after school, they sent my wife an email saying that he was disinvited from the field trip. We had no idea this was even being discussed, or what the justification was. The only reason they gave was, "insubordination." The Maoist Red Guard is heartless. The Cultural Revolution consumes all! He had his heart set on spending one last night with his friends before moving. Now the mean girls have the pleasure of taking something from him once again, and can indulge in the delicious fruit of self-righteous gloating over the teenage boy they've assigned to the lower social class. The school is run by cruel and heartless young women whose minds are held captive by the woke virus, who torment children for their socially unacceptable views. Do not trust them with your children.

The dedication toward developing the whole child is evident in interactions staff have with children. (Even in moments when I unexpectedly show up for a midday pickup- this is consistent.) Watching the teachers/staff interact with kids is a masterclass in raising tiny humans- it's honestly shaped me as a parent. I truly believe that my kids are better people because of their time spent at MM. I feel deep gratitude for the staff at this school and the community they've built. In my experience, the director bends over backward to meet the reasonable (and sometimes unreasonable) needs and concerns of families- I don't really know of anyone who feels otherwise... and I do a lot of chatting with parents at birthday parties. My belief is that preschool is about little ones exploring the world around them and learning to interact with others (which is a big enough job as it is) so my focus isn't on academics, but I know that's a big question people have: My 4 year old is going to be entering kindergarten extremely well prepared. She knows her letters and letter sounds and can sound out words, and is adding and subtracting at MM! She knows about music (calling out, "Those are drums!" "That was piano!"when we listen to songs) and excitedly tells me about the seeds they germinated in class and how flowers grow. My sense is that teachers aren't pushing kids past what they're ready for, and are instead focused on building a love for learning, but that hasn't resulted in less exposure to pre-k and kindergarten academic content. My only rec is to get on the waitlist early because it's a long one.

I have struggled to write a review for many years because there are not adequate words to summarize…read morethe amazing place that is Sunrise Montessori. We have had our two children attend this school for a cumulative 6.5 years from very tiny little guys until Kindergarten-ready. My only sadness is that they ever had to leave. Allow me to list some of the highlights: - SMS is a true montessori. The teachers, the curriculum and the materials are all original Montessori as Maria Montessori herself conceptualized it. Many places use the word, but few deliver. If you are familiar with the Maria Montessori approach you will be pleased by their faithful and educated execution of it. - The setting is like a garden of eden. The school is built in an old cottage-style home on acreage. The children garden and play outdoors under large shade trees. They have a lot of time outdoors digging and running and playing- which I think is such a beautiful way to spend a childhood. - The environment is unhurried and calm. In true montessori fashion the children are empowered to move through their day according to their needs. The (healthy fruits and veggies) snacks are prepared fresh each day by the staff and left at their height level where they can take breaks and eat as needed. The bathroom is the same. The "jobs" (which is montessori-speak for the activities) are self-directed at designated times. There is an ease to the outdoor time, the music time, the art time. When I pick up my son at the end of the day I wish I could spend my days there! It's a beautiful space and tone. - The teachers are among the kindest, brightest and most loving souls you will ever meet. They take the time to get to know your child and adapt to their needs and personality. They include the children in tasks all day long- the kids are so proud to be helpers! They appropriately hug them and sit with them and give special attention on hard days and it's really like a home away from home. You won't find their generosity of spirit anyplace else. They're truly one-of-a-kind. Any parent knows how much it means when your child's teachers seem to delight in them. - The school is incredibly professional. All the staff work hard at their jobs. Communication is prompt and courteous. We've never had any issues (over almost 7 years) with charges or anything else. Their directress Mrs Anne conducts business with integrity. Over time I've been able to observe the teachers in a variety of situations and they have all behaved as consummate professionals. - Academically this school hits it out of the park. If you know the Montessori method you know that it is child-led. The children are allowed to chose "jobs" (activities) as they want to. They have no idea they are learning! And yet, my children have both graduated from Preschool far ahead of grade level and more than prepared for Kindergarten. Somehow, without ever pushing them, the Montessori approach magically follows their interests. This results in children who not only know a great deal but also LOVE TO LEARN. Both my children have inquisitive minds and engage deeply in learning. With my older child this has persisted even several years later. It is something all his teachers notice- his insightful questions and unique engagement in the classroom. I give a lot of the credit to the Montessori method and this school. They think learning is FUN - This school creates citizens of the world. It emphasizes a well-rounded approach to life. Good nutrition, kindness, empathy, problem-resolution, emotional-regulation, communication, environmental consciousness, multiculturalism... the list goes on. These are all values of the school and it's staff and it shows. Bottom line- if you have the opportunity to have your child attend here- TAKE IT. This school is one of a kind.
