I went on OPEN MIC night last month did my stand up comedy. I am 84 and finding a place that does not discriminate me for my age is unusual. The older people in the small but happy crowd gave me a standing ovation. The service was great and I left feeling great about finding Village Music. Pretty off-putting vibe by the guy who I'm guessing runs this place. Seems to be in a bad mood and came off salty for no reason. I asked if I could play one of the guitars he said "that's one mine you can play if it you can afford $3000 for it" then he tells me all the guitars are his, he paid for them. Yeah, that's typically how retail works - you buy stuff then sell it. I declined, no thanks I'll take my business elsewhere. Best of luck to you, you'll need it with that attitude. read more

I came on Friday night for live music and food. The live music was ok. The food was mediocre. The service was record-setting bad. Took 1.5 hours to get our appetizer. The live music talent is incredible, from Jazz to coffee house music. They have hired a chef for the new eclectic restaurant with fusion food style on certain evenings. If you want to learn a musical instrument this is the perfect place to go from a child to an adult you'll have an amazing teacher to teach you everything you want to know about learning that special instrument. I had a very similar creepy experience as pretty much everyone else who posted a negative comment here. I am a musician and photographer in Wellington. I had only visited the store twice before. Once, over a year ago, but they weren't open in the middle of a weekday for some reason and once because a friend/neighbor asked me to meet him there to listen to music. That neighbor knows of a project I am working on and suggested that I should go in to Village Music and talk to the owner Steve. So today, at around 12:30pm, I had a few minutes and happened to be near the store so I walked in and some guy behind the desk who was sitting down at his computer and seemed quite annoyed by my very presence, said - and I quote, "What do you want?" Obviously, the question and the rude manner of which it was asked threw me off for a moment. I was so blown away by the way in which he spoke to me that I thought perhaps I heard him wrong ... so, I started over ... thinking I could change the tone with my kindness and charm. So I said, "Hi ... I'm David. My neighbor (and I mentioned his name) suggested I should come by and introduce myself. Are you Steve?" And the guy gets up from his chair, jostling with his pants or belt and barks at me - "YEAH - I'M AM. WHAT DO YOU WANT?" Well ... no one speaks to me that way and so I said "I don't want anything" and turned around and began to walk out, saying nothing more directly back to him. And as I was walking out, he shouted at me again ... "I SAID WHAT DO YOU WANT." And I just laughed and left. I'm 59 years old and can honestly say that I have never been greeted so rudely by anyone in a retail store as I was by this person. Needless to say, I would never be caught dead in that store again. My musical talents do not exist, but my daughter is really skilled. I wanted to find a Mom & Pop music shop that was close to our home for simple things like strings, small repairs, advice, etc. I walked in to see what they had to offer and I was really pleasantly surprised! From strings to affordable entry-level priced instruments that won't break the budget to the highest quality brand names, they have a lot of stuff packed in a nice little shop. We will be back for sure. Everyone at the store was so kind and took the time to explain to me the reasonings behind the different types of strings & supplies, which was really nice. Terrible owners. I know some ex-employees personally. They can't pay their employees but are quick to take your money for lessons. They don't notify teachers that they changed their schedules so you might be waiting for half an hour or more for your lesson. They will not refund any missed lessons and don't work here unless you're willing to go to court for your hard earned cash. Avoid at all cost. read more

Don't patronize this business! They are dishonest and unprofessional! Had consigned my guitar with a strap along with amp, wah pedal, cables, and stand. After learning of their shady character I went and retrieved my items. The amp had been sold, however the owner cheated me on the agreed upon 70/30 split. They damaged the guitar, and kept the strap, and tried to keep the pedal until I demanded it's retur. read more

My only complaint is outdated menus. They no longer serve several items listed. Other than that, we love this little hidden gem! My girlfriend and I both had the Pascual Toso Malbec, $9 a glass, highly recommend, and the olive medley. Crowd is on the older side, but don't let that fool you. Buyer Beware! Establishment is poorly ran and lack in everything from customer service to customer care. The owners care more about the buck then they do the customer. My first music lesson was booked and canceled without my acknowledgement. When I called to voice my concern after numerous phone calls and emails were left unanswered, the owner Steve showed such disrespect by yelling at me and telling me, the customer, that I was in the wrong. He made sure to tell me that they have 300 students and can't keep track of everyone. He refused to refund me. I am no longer a customer as of 2 weeks ago. The establishment is still charging my credit card. Look elsewhere for music lessons. read more

What a pleasant surprise to listen to professional musicians in an intimate room adjoining the Village Music Store in Wellington. First up for the evening were the Wellington Jazz Cats. They are sooooo smooth. They were joined by the owner with his raspy voice for a few rock songs. Next a musician with a recorder for some Zen jazz. What a treat. And to top it off, a culinary delight of food prepared by an excellent chef and servered by a pleasant server They serve beer and wine. You've got to try this hidden gem in Wellington. As a former Owner of a Music Store in Wellington from 2002 to 2011 you the customers are tough and rude and expect things to be handed to you. It does not work that way. I do not know how extragerated some of the really bad reviews are but come on. He is running a business , you sign a contract you are upheld to that contract no refunds period. No make up lessons unless you had an agreement . The Dr review don't you get paid even If your patient doesn't come in by the insurance company? The drum mom well you paid for a certain amount and you took 6 lessons. You now just messed up the instructor's schedule and he must be paid for his time... No you don't agree. We the teachers and owners of music schools must be paid for our time and experience. Yes you run into all kinds of people. Bottom line you pay for no refundable lessons as per your signed contract oh that's why there is a contract no?........ Buck Up..... read more

The owner is nice and pationate about music. That being said, for music instruction for children, I do not recommend. They have too much turnover in instructors and some instructors do not have teaching experience or experience with teaching children. Having had 3 different teachers left my child just confused on the different manners of teaching and had him giving up and negative about learning to play an instrument all together. Also, they do not do a good job of keeping track of lessons and payments, wanting to charge again not having counted lessons completed correctly. read more

Disrespectful, Rude owner!!! I paid $300 for 8 drum lessons for my 6 year old son who decided, after 6 lessons, that he did not want to continue. On that 6th visit, the instructor was 20 minutes late, so while we were waiting, I asked Steve, the owner, what are options were for the remaining 2 lessons, if perhaps we could get a store credit to purchase something in the store. His response was "he has to do them, there are no refunds!" So I told him I understood, but asked again if we could get a store credit and he said something like "maybe" then got on his cell phone and left! After I completed the lesson, we came out and I asked what the final decision was in terms of a store credit- and his response, while stuffing his face with Chik-fil-a I'm a very rude tone - "I just got my food and I don't have anywhere to hide so I'm going to eat!! Maybe TJ (the very kind helpful associate) can help you". I said sure and TJ began to issue the store credit. A young man came in while this was happening and started talk to Steve, and he didn't mind interrupting his lunch to carry on a conversation, although he didn't want to help me. I told him, as a business owner he should talk to his customers differently and that we will not be coming back. Rather than apologizing he said "all I said was TJ can help you". After a few minutes while I was wrapping up with TJ , he apologized and I said "ok and again, as a business owner, he should speak differently with his paying customers and that I noticed he didn't mind his lunch being interrupted to carry on a casual conversation with his buddy" - to which he responded "OK KAREN!". I was only offended by his lack of couth and customer service. I am disgusted at how I was blatantly disrespected by this "businessman" in front of my son and I do NOT recommend anyone to come here. How with all the students coming and going from this music center, are none of them (or their parents) posting reviews! Love this store! My 8-yr old daughter takes both piano and vocal lessons and her progress is off the charts (largely due to the great group of instructors that are employed here). While my daughter is in her lessons, I actually stay the entire hour playing guitar in the showroom. I must have played every guitar in the shop over the last year. Great selection, great staff, smart forward thinking owners... can't wait for the relocation this summer... a performance stage in house as well as a coffee and craft beer bar. read more

The owner Steve is also extremely RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. He spoke to my husband is an awful tone. My daughter has been taking vocal lessons at Village Music for over a year. Recently we had to reschedule a few lessons due to COVID and then the teacher also started rescheduling lessons etc. This obviously kept pushing the lessons forward and then we were accused of not paying for lessons!! The book-keeping is awful. The worst part was the owner Donna stopped my daughter's lesson halfway through stating we had not paid etc etc. If she had taken the time to see the lessons that got rescheduled she would have understood. HOW EMBARRASSING for my 9 year old. As a physician I was in the office seeing patients and I was literally going to drive over and give my credit card. What an amazing night we had at Village Music! Chef Chris Paul was an absolute genius with his culinary masterpieces. We also enjoyed the perfectly paired wine by Brian Tomlinson from VWF. We started the first pairing with a Cherry Pie Pinot Noir and garden mix salad topped with candied Pistachios, berries, smoked gruyere, and homemade dressing. Next, we had a BR Cohn Chardonnay with a Salmon Ceviche served with sweet & salty spinach tortilla chips. Our main course was a perfectly cooked NY strip seasoned with charcoal salt, topped with a slice of NY apple and sautéed broccoli. This was paired with a lovely glass of The Cab. Finally, we had a Merlot served with Chef Chris Paul's special treat, deconstructed watermelon, feta cheese, smoked salt, caramel and a Cognac and Bourbon blend dressing.
