Save yourself a potential ACL / MCL injury and avoid this place. Went in for a binding adjustment, the shop tech said "it's $50 but that includes adjustment and testing to ensure it's all set up". Steep price but if it included a release test then fine. However he only adjusted the heel of the binding and said he's all done and threw a literal temper tantrum when I asked for him to also adjust the toe piece, which is required to ensure proper release with the AFD device. (Not to mention there was no release test) When I said I'm not paying $50 for that, he enraged and grabbed my skis and slipped the heel binding as far back as possible, I'm guessing as a way to reverse his shoddy attempt at a binding adjustment and told me to go do it myself. Childlike behavior that matches skill of the same level. read more

Village Ski Shop has been consistently good to us for nearly 40 years! The equipment is top notch and the staff are friendly, fun, and very accommodating. They are so knowledgeable and professional, doing whatever they can to best need the needs of their clients. We arbitrarily rented our skis from here this trip. We put in a reservation online ahead of time. We didn't realize that it's pointless to make a reservation ahead of time at this place, they are the only rental place that takes walk ins as a well. So picking up our equipment, there is no preference for reservations made ahead of time. You are lumped in with the walk in crowd as well. We waited two hours to pick up our ski equipment. Employees are tired, overwhelmed and borderline rude. Returning our equipment - it was also an absolute madhouse. Employees are no longer borderline rude - they were just straight up rude. Mohawk guy, im especially talking about you. If you're wanting to be a walk-in during spring break week and know what you're getting into - fine. This is your stop. I will pay whatever price for any of the "reservation only" rental places to never have to spend two hours in Village Ski again. I'm not sure what their business model is that operating with pure unorganized chaos benefits them, but it's definitely not for us. read more

ABOUT THE COMPANY: We have rented from Village Ski multiple times in the past. Never a great experience, but it's a convenient location. Customer service is terrible now. I am a fun, tolerant, and patient person. However, if you INTENTIONALLY do something to be mean, I will correct you (I am a high school science teacher). I came to Angel Fire with my husband, our three daughters, four brothers, nephew, and my parents. Jeff was working as the door man to make sure there were not too many people in the room. When my husband, my youngest daughter, and I got up to the door, Jeff told us that we had to wait because there were too many people. We (tried) to explained that the rest of my family was in there and our reservations are together. He dismissed us and said that "it's the law". Okay, understandable. Anyway, I was cold so I told my husband that I was going to wait in the truck. Jeff butted into our conversation and told me to wait (disrespectfully). I looked at my husband in the face and said "I'm cold. I will wait in the truck." I head back to the truck and a couple of min later, my husband yells for me that we can go in. So, I jog back over there. I WATCHED Jeff let my husband and daughter in, then TWO MORE random people, but then shut the door on me. He put his hand up with the "stop" signal and said "you'll have to wait here, now because there are too many people". TO JEFF: Your behavior was 100% intentional, Jeff. I see through you. You saw and heard my husband yell for me, saw me jog over, and proceeded to shut the door on me. Due to the fact that I didn't listen to the all powerful Jeff by waiting in the cold, you felt pleasure in thinking that you were "punishing" me. Does that make you feel good? Do you feel like a big man by separating us on purpose? Jeff, being rude is one thing. We all have bad days, weeks, months, etc... and I know being rude is nothing personal. For example, I probably came off as "rude" when I dismissed your advice to wait in the cold. But, did you know that I haven't slept in three day? Did you know that I just finalized adopting one of my prior students? Did you know that I teach high school physics in class and online, both concurrently and separately? Did you know that my work hours are contracted from 8:30-4:30, but I really I'm working 6am - midnight EVERY SINGLE DAY? Did you know that part of the reason I went back to the truck was to finish answering a question for one of my special Ed kids? Did you know that I lost 30 pounds since the beginning of the school year because I DON'T have time to eat? Did you know that I have multiple break downs everyday from work/home stress? Did you know that I did all the planning, packing, shopping, and behavior management of kids for this trip WHILE juggling all of the other things? Of course not. Why on earth would you? That's why I didn't take it personally when you were initially rude to me. I don't know what was going on your life to make you that way, but I chalked it up to dealing with people all day. I understand that. But, you were something else today. You were vindictive. That's personal. You YELLED at me because I asked questions. That's personal. Here is some advice, Jeff: If you see a mom/wife who looks like she's in a bad mood and wants to "get away" (like going to the truck), but yet the husband and kids are happy and excited, it's probably because she did all of the traveling work and she's tired. TO OWNERS/MANAGERS: Village Ski is deteriorating. Employees can make or break you. Support your employees (pay them more, give them flexibility, train them, respect them as individuals with their own families, etc...) and you can turn Village Ski around. When you take care of your employees, you will get the top employees. People will be clambering for a job. Happy employees make happy customers. Happy customers spend more money. This is the second year in a row we have come here and they were beyond rude. Last year we just chalked it up to getting the wrong employee that day. Today we were treated with the utmost disrespect by not just one, but three employees including the manager. I was not unkind at all to these people, and they were short, smart aleck, and absolutely ugly. As we were walking out I told my mother, they treated us nasty last year...the manager overheard me and yelled, "then why did you come back?!" Just over Christmas my boyfriend took me to visit his home town of Angel Fire for the first time. For anyone who is familiar with Angel Fire knows that skiing is pretty much the main attraction for this tiny but beautiful little town. My boyfriend, being a native got pretty good at snowboarding and used to work for The Village Ski Shop. We of course had to visit there to rent our equipment for when we went out, and to say hi to Micky, the shop's owner. Micky and his staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and are super good at what they do. They all love the sport and know how to fix someone up with the proper equipment, whether it be for snowboarding, skiing, snowblading, or snowshoeing. The Village Ski Shop's rental equipment is all pretty new and top of the line. For snowboards they carry mostly all Burton Boards, and for skis, Saloman and Atomic. The Saloman skis that I rented were really nice. The Village Ski Shop not only has equipment rentals, but also an assortment of clothing and other gear needed for the sport. If you're looking for some new goggles or gloves, Micky can give you advice and help you choose whatever works best for what you're looking for. Another bonus is that parking is also free and there is a free shuttle that loads up right outside of the shop, and will run you up to the ski lifts. read more

Village Ski Shop rocks. We reserved our skis at the busiest time of the season. They had everything ready, helped us customize all of our equipment, and we were out the door. My son rented a snow board and the boots needed to be exchanged mid-trip. They swapped them out, no charge. Parking is free when you rent. Super convenient to the slopes. Employees were helpful and cool. They are busy so it's no nonsense but that's how it should be right? The equipment is solid and so is this shop. Rent from them. You won't be disappointed. I have always used this place even though I could have gotten a discount elsewhere. When we returned our equipment- I was BLASTED about not having a mask (which I agree but no need to be yelled at by 4 guys behind the plexiglass rather than them coming to the customer side and helping. Then, the 2nd guy comes in with 5 sets of skis and poles bear hugged if you will...they started yelling at him. Ugh. He turned and dropped his skis and I don't blame him. This place is good at the SALE but return and customer service is a joke!!! I'm the customer. So now, I'm going to go with someone different. This place is a joke! I called to cancel my reservation before renting any equipment and was told by the employee I spoke with that I would receive a refund except for the $10 non-refundable booking fee. A couple of weeks later, I called because I had not received a refund. The manager Nicky was rude on the phone, refused to issue any refunds, and practically hung up on me. You can't beat the location for convenience, and when everyone else was booked full for skis they had a huge supply, so that was a relief! We didn't think to reserve skis in advance of our vacation. They store the skis for you overnight, which was great, but when someone else took my friend's skis before we showed up in the morning my friend took the pair that looked just like them and then the shop wanted to charge them for turning in the wrong skis. They also told us we could do a skip day and not be charged but didn't tell us that if we decided not to ski the day after the skip day we would still be charged for the day, so we paid for a day we didn't use. When they messed up sizes and we had to go back because skis wouldn't stay on, they put us back at the end of the line so we missed a lot of ski time that day. I will go somewhere else next time and reserve skis in advance. read more

What a treat nestled in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range! I have been going to Village Ski Shop now for over 10 years. I started washing boots here when I was still in High School, back in the mid 1990's. I immediately enjoyed the "non traditional" way of thinking here. It's a good, no nonsense shop. They are very friendly and knowledgable. Micki, the owner, always purchased new gear every year. Not to replace last years merchandise, but just to stay up on the cutting edge and make sure his clientele is happy. Ski's and snowboards are tuned after each trip out and the boots are washed by hand (unfortunately I know this to be true) then sprayed with antibacterial spray and hung to dry each time someone rents them out. A lot of shops in the area just put skii's back on the rack or just through boots back on the shelves. This leads to stinky boots and ski's that just don't perform. Village ski shop, used to be, the only shop that carried cross country skii's in the area, not quite 100% sure on that now. But still even the cross country ski's were nice, new Solomon's. All of Village's ski's are generally Atomic and Solomon. They do have different levels of ski's too. Some ski's that you can rent go for $1000.00 or so new. But Village gives you the chance to rent them for the day, or week! Their snowboards are all Burton, not just the rental boards but the nicer ones. He caters to the bigger people too with boards all the way up to 167. Village also has it's own little parking lot that's free for renters. Sometimes when it's busy it's hard to find parking so this is an added bonus. Their is a shuttle that you walk across the street too and is free. It takes you right to the bottom of the lift. I believe they offer group discounts and online reservations as well. The staff are all nice and eager to help. The same general staff has been working there for over 10 years, so they know what they are doing and obviously doing a good job! That's why they tend to get the same customers year after year because once you've found this place, there is nowhere else you would rather go for great performance equipment and friendly service. Normally I rent my equipment from a place in Eagle Nest that was closed during my ski trip. We chose to rent from Village Shop because they had free parking relatively close to the ticket booth and lifts if you rented from them. For about $40/day you can rent top notch equipment (boots, skis, poles). I believe you can get average equipment for about $25/day. Staff was very friendly, helpful and even when busy will get you in and out the door quickly. read more

I hate to be a downer on a small local business but my last experience here was a tremendous disappointment that will leave me renting my gear from any of the other shops in Angel Fire. My family and I were in town for Christmas and I had picked up a set of demo skis for a day on the slopes. Bear in mind that the demo skis are supposed to be premium gear for which you also pay a premium price. I didn't notice it until I was already down in Taos, but the skis were in horrible shape. The metal guard on one of the ski tips was barely hanging on (missing 2 of the 3 rivets) and as a result it sounded like I was skiing on a set of maracas. Then, after two runs on the hill I stopped for a quick break and the brake assembly in the binding of the other ski completely popped out on me when I stepped out of the skis (see the picture I posted if you're curious). Needless to say, paying top dollar for this setup was not at all what I had in mind especially after I was turned away from the lift a couple runs later when the operator noticed I didn't have the required brake mechanism on the ski. I had high hopes that the Village Ski Shop would do something to remedy the situation when I came by the next morning to drop my gear off. Unfortunately, that did happen. The owner (Mickey I believe) seemed initially sympathetic and was very quick to get the broken equipment out of the view of the other customers after I had explained what had happened. With everything gone out of sight, he said I was all checked in, implying that the transaction was over. I asked him if he could do anything to make things right since my gear did not perform as expected. His response: "Absolutely Not!" and with that he walked away. I'm not one to take to the internet with the slightest grievance but what I got from this company was deplorable. With so many other options to rent gear that are within walking distance of this place, I know I will never bring my business here again and would steer anybody I know away from this place as well. read more

Killer prices and free parking, decent equipment. Village is a no-frills ski shop with nop-notch gear. Well, there's one frill - free parking for customers. They don't have a huge selection of gear, so if you're looking to demo some (even somewhat) esoteric stuff, think Gotamas or BD tele gear, you're better off elsewhere, but what they do have is in good shape and they're always accommodating about swapping out or tweaking during your rental period. I downranked them a star for their somewhat lax open policy, they're known to close early on slow days, and for the fact that their reservations site (as of this writing) isn't SSL encrypted, so when it asks for your CC#, it's being sent out into the ether completely plain text. read more

This was the worst rental experience from my 25 years of renting ski equipment. The employees were rude, aggressive towards me and other customers, and at least 2 employees seem to make a specific effort to be confrontational towards customers during both rental pick up and drop off. I also saw one employee yell at a customer across the room and another employee throw a helmet at a customer, very unprofessional to say the least! This place seems like a law suit waiting to happen! All of the other employees seem to have been affected by the attitudes of some individuals working there in a negative way. I would not recommend this place to anyone! The experience at Village Ski Shop could not have been better! There were 4 of us renting skis and equipment - we had reserved ahead online, and they had our reservation ready when we walked in the door, verified the information for each of us, and quickly starting fitting us with skis, boots, helmets and poles. Gave us great advice about the best way to wear socks inside the boots (no double layers, bulges etc), and all of our equipment fit and worked perfectly! They were also very friendly!! The resort closed early due to Covid. We were told that we could get a refund on the equipment for the days that the resort closed early. This is now the end of July. I have been trying for over 4 months now. Nobody answers the phone, no voicemail, and emails are only (if I'm lucky) once a month and they are still finding excuses not to give us our refund. This is their first full Covid season I am assuming and they failed miserably not only did they fail but about 60% of the mountain staff failed. If you want to be treated like a piece of excrement, talked down to this is your place! I was here from Louisiana with a group of about 50. I know for a fact 25 will not be back to the Village idiots ski shop and more than likely will never come back to this resort. So, do the math you young people on the mountain, and business owners, If you piss off 25 people that spend on average of 3000$ each, that is a substantial hit in the profits of the resort. As a business owner in Louisiana I deal with thousands upon thousands of customers every year. I just don't understand talking to your customers like crap. So, here's a little advice. I bought a pair of SNOW skiing goggles for my son. Apparently the could not with stand contact with the SNOW. ONE fall and they literally filled with water. I went to back to the store and their story is all sales are final and told me to take it up with the manufacturer. Buyer beware! These folks found the exact skis that my friend requested in a somewhat rare length (K2 Aftershock, 181mm) and had them waiting when we arrived. They recommended some Dynastar Cham 97's for his wife that she loved in the powder. The demo rates were cheap. They provide an indoor area to boot up and leave your shoes. ...and the parking is free for customers right across the street from one of the resort shuttle stops. Without being asked, the owner reserved a new pair of K2 Richter 186mm for us to try during the week. They became the preferred high speed bombers for my friend. On top of all of that, the owner and his staff treated us daily with genuine western hospitality! read more

Beware of this business. My family had the most surreal and unsettling experience with them. We stored my husband's skis in their overnight storage shed. The following day when we went to pick them up, my husband took his skis which were the last ones in the shed and went to the base of the mountain only to discover that his boots didn't fit in the bindings. He figured that someone else had taken his skis by mistake and went back to the shop to resolve the issue. Upon speaking to a worker, he was immediately chastised and told to put the skis back because they weren't his. My husband did so and went back in to explain the situation after which the worker told him that he would be financially responsible for his skis if he was unable to locate them. My husband then walked back to the mountain to try to try to find his skis so he wouldn't be liable for the $1000 skis. Miraculously, my husband ran into the man with his skis who told him and presented a receipt showing that he had rented the skis that day. Upon calling the shop to ask them about this situation, the employees were insulting and rude on the phone and refused to take ownership for their mistake. If my husband hadn't found the skis, he would have been charged $1000 for their replacement even though the shop had rented them out to someone else. They admitted that they "don't have a system to check that people turn in the right skis after their rental period is over and that 99% of the time it all works out." There are plenty of other rental companies to use on the mountain with better storage systems and more organized processes in place. Do not risk renting from this company. read more

Good Shop. My wife and I rented our ski's We upgraded to the Premium Ski's $40/day. They were ok condition ( probably more to do with ski'ing at the end of the season - March ). They offer some "premium" gear as well. Smith Brand goggles and helmets, along with decent selection of gloves ( sub $40 ). Another advantage is they let you park for free and store your ski's and poles overnight. The shuttle runs about every 10 minutes and pick you up and returns you at the end of the day. Owner and all the employee's were super nice. (I will say, i tried to negotiate a $220 Smith helmet and owner wouldn't budge on price. I guess if you're in a Ski town you gotta pay if you want something. read more

really sweat place to be. friendly people from the time i walked in the door to the time they fitted my boots board and walked out. they helped me understand the right fit of the boots and how big my board should be for the best beginner. shoping around for prices and this was the best price for the top of the line equipment. i went a few days after Xmas and even though there where lots of people the staff still personally fit each persons boots to make sure the customer would be comfortable all day. customers and employs all looked like they were having a good time. read more

We went to Angel Fire for a week of skiing and our host recommended Village Ski Shop. What a great outfit. They were courteous and knowledgeable. They fit everyone from the inexperienced of us to the expert in the group. The staff was very customer service oriented. I forgot my helmet one day and they let me borrow one for the day since did not have all their rentals out to people. I was really impressed. The staff that was fitting skis were former skiers and really knew their stuff. The price was reasonable, even at high season, and there was free parking for those renting from them.
