After breakfast, our friends needed some parts to do some minor home repairs. We stumbled on this local old school hardware store in town. They literally are stocked from floor to ceiling with products ranging from toilet repair kits to ammunition. You know it's old school when they have parts for rotary phones. Bonus, the clerk was a Raider fan and there was an old couch with the football game on in the store. Old school classic. read more

First off....I'm going to state right out of the gate that I'm a little biased. I live exactly a mile from them and because of that...I'm there all the time. NO...they don't have 'eVeRyTHiNg'. They're a little Hardware Store in a town that's about the length of a football field. That being said....they make it a point to try and carry everything that they reasonably can to make everyone happy...with the size of place that they're working with. The Occidental Hardware cre that works there are great. They're helpful and very personable. They go out of their way to help each and everyone that walks through their door. I'm very grateful to have such an iconic and efficiently ran business up the street from me to call 'my hardware store'. read more

You can't ask for a better small town hardware store. This place has a small supply of everything, some is a little pricey but it's still better than a hour of drive time to anywhere else. Everyone is always super kind and genuinely friendly, there is none of the new Occidental snobbery you find more and more here these days. There is one short hipster fellow that's isn't so friendly or kind, but at least he is genuine about not liking customers he doesn't know. Short guys like chihuahuas can be feisty and mean. I I'm a weirdo and I don't mind people having their own option of me as long as I don't have to change. I commend the lil guy for being himself. Bring in a handful of your pocket change and buy yourself a little candy in the old timey jars. When was the last time you had a candy cane with your favorite flavor? read more

I love small town hardware stores. Occidental Hardware was recently one of the more enjoyable ones to wander around. It was more of a campus experience as there are a couple buildings and an associated common area. There's a lot of material stuffed into these shelves and featuring neighborhood-specific parts that are often hard to find at the larger chain places. Yes the prices are a bit higher and I suppose if you were willing to take an extended curvy drive to the suburbs, you could still pay more after factoring the costs of fuel and time. And at least in this Occidental store, you won't have to spend any significant time hunting down someone for help. I enjoyed the dog too. read more

It's amazing how much stuff they have for what seems to be a smaller store. No matter what i am needing they always seem to have it. The service is friendly and more helpful than what you're used to at the big box stores. The prices might be a bit higher, but less than what it costs to schlep off to RP or Sebastopol. Definitely my go to place when we're out here. read more

Nice hardware store. Old fashioned general store feel with modern supplies. Went here the first time today. Thought I'd save myself a trip to Santa Rosa. Needed a part for our rv. The owner, Marco, helped me find exactly what I needed. He was friendly and sincere. He also steered me clear from a purchase I didn't need. You know you can trust a merchant who doesn't let you to buy something you don't need, lol. There free coffee brewed from a local place the roasts their own beans. Had what we needed for a small project, the prices are reasonable. The guy helping us didn't know a lot about the products, nor could he give us suggestions as to what we might be able to use. but it wasn't a big deal. IT's a fine place for nuts, bolts, screws, wire, etc. read more

I love this hardware store! It's like the hardware stores of your, imagine Mayberry. The staff is excellent and for such a tiny little place they have more than hardware stores many times their size. We bought a small farm that needed a ton of work n Occidental about a year ago. I have become a regular at Occidental Hardware. The staff is super friendly and helpful - pretty much always meeting me at the door and helping me find everything I need. They expanded the store about 9 months ago so now they have just about anything I need. Prices are reasonable. read more

I honestly don't know what I would do without my neighborhood Occidental Hardware Store. Where else can you get service like I received today? Marco spent at least 30 minutes actually fabricating a set of perfect brackets for me. Lewis is like a rock that is always there to help. John is a sweetheart who cares so much about keeping our neighborhoods safe from fires he volunteers for the fire department. All of the people there love my dogs and shower them with biscuits, even if I come in the store several times a day. The stock has blossomed since John and Marco took over and it is SO HANDY to have this caliber of hardware stores in little Occidental. This is a good old fashioned hardware store that is immensely more convenient than driving into Sebastopol or Santa Rosa. Thank you Occidental Hardware from your number one fan! read more

The manager/ owner was unbelievably rude to me and my friends. We were merely trying to make a simple purchase and the owner raised his voice at us and told us to leave. Occidental hardware is a great local hardware store. When I was setting up my restaurant down the street, I probably came in 3 times a day for a month to grab some misc solvent or bolt or tool I needed. They do not sell power-tools, so head to the mega depot for the big tools, then support the local hardware store for the smaller items. Mike and Naomi are wonderful people, and a wealth of knowledge about any project you might have, as well as referring to quality contractors. They even cut crown molding out of square stock for me, and installed it at a VERY good price. read more
