I wish I would have checked yelp before we booked this house. There is a review written about 4 years ago here that exactly described our experience this past week!
Juan the house manager is horribly inattentive, unwelcoming and unprofessional! The house bills itself as having 5 star service. We have stayed at many properties before this with 5 star service and this is not it! We love experiencing new homes in PV, but we've learned our lesson and will only return to the ones that deserve our business.
When people are paying 18,000 a week to stay, Juan should at least ask them if they need anything each day instead of disappearing or walking past them without making eye contact!
To the owner: when you have great staff and service provided to your guests they might overlook the stained, scratchy towels, stained dirty pool chairs, broken fixtures, etc.., the house is need of some updating and love. Also, the beach is unusable, but that is not the owners fault given the current tidal conditions. However, Juan could have at least made the sandy area near the bar a bit more inviting by cleaning up the bar or at least putting out beach chairs. We found them and set them up ourselves. Not a big deal unless you are paying close to $2600/night for a luxury Villa.
The morning would have all our used, wet towels still laying on the pool chairs, nothing tidied up from the previous day. We would have to look for cleaning staff ourselves since Juan never appeared. Its not like we were out there at 6am. It would be after 9am and nothing was tidied up. We don't blame them for the lousy service. They have jobs to do and once we pointed out the lack of towels, they were provided. Once they saw us come in the kitchen with empty glasses and garbage from the night before, they came out to help us clean. We found the broom and swept up the previous days sand ourselves. Juan is the house manager and from what we saw, he directed nothing, he managed nothing.
It is a shame, because this house has a beautiful view and is very accommodating for large groups.
The bright spot was Paco and Cesar, who tried their hardest to make us feel welcomed and greeted each day. Paco is a great bartender and was always eager to ask us what we needed. There is only one staff for two houses. So one staff for upwards of 30 guests is insufficient but they did their best.
The same cannot be said about Juan.
Juan is unprofessional and showed us his prejudice against us. He told us he couldn't provide certain dinner suggestions we had made because we weren't "true Mexicans" and should stick to the "gringo" menu he had planned or we'd "have trouble". We are talking fish tacos, red snapper and chicken with mole. Nothing weird or threatening to gringos as far as I've ever heard. Plus we are all Mexican and our husbands are dual Mexican citizens.
It took 4 days before Juan finally agreed to sit down and discuss the menu. Previous house managers and chefs make a point to sit down with you the very first day and discuss your food preferences. Previous chefs happily provided breakfast cooked to order, fresh bakery, fresh seafood, fresh vegetables, and freshly, simply homemade desserts. Since you are expected to pay for all your groceries, I believe it is courtesy to be asked what you'd like to eat. Not so with Juan.
The food here is prepared well and tasted delicious. Margarita does a fine job. It is like your nice aunt making you dinner. It is abundant and presented nicely. Luckily Costco has some nice premade bakery pies and cakes so dessert was also decent. Except for dessert one night, Juan pulled out wrapped, mini Costco popsicles for dessert. He literally presented them in a bowl on the table after dinner as if we were little children all reaching in to grab one. What a joke.
We loved the beautiful pool. Be aware that it gets very little sun and gets cold. The pool heater is not sufficient to keep the pool warm. We were always asking for the temp increase, only to have it turned back down. The real feel of the water does not correspond to the temp on the heater, so I assume the heater is just not big enough to heat a pool of this size.
We would be very embarrassed to recommend this house to our friends. But despite all that, we had a fabulous vacation with our friends and families. But I feel sorry for anyone coming here and thinking this is a luxury rental. For this price, trust me, you can be treated with 5 star service that would blow your mind, in a house that is actually luxurious! This is not that place! read more
