They were so incredible I came back the next day for zesty Italian mussels and bbq mussels. All three were incredible but the bbq mussels were the star for me. They had the perfect amount of sweetness to balance out the smoke and mussel flavor. We also got some fresh scallops that I cooked for dinner. They were maybe the best quality scallops I've ever had. I've been to dozens of lobster pounds all over Maine and the flavor and texture of these lobsters beat them all. In short, they are the agent/broker for 300+ local fishermen...selling the freshest catch hauled in daily to the public. They always have a healthy inventory of different seafood and are open all year, which is exceptionally great for off-season travelers like me. Staff are exceptionally friendly and prices are fair. Their sales can also get you product for really cheap (for example, crab is currently 10 lbs / $20 yesterday). Another cool fact is that rare lobsters do end up here once in a while. They are obviously not for sale and will be sent to a lobster "sanctuary" that does not involve a warm bath. There was a blue lobster (1 in 2 million) and two Calico lobsters (1 in 30 million) in one of the holding tanks yesterday. This is something you won't have the opportunity to see at most (if not all) seafood markets.
