Leaving this review on behalf of my brother who resides in Austin. This is his experience - I did my homework and research to find the best provider for my needs. On Friday January 22nd I called Dr Yu's office to schedule an appointment. I was told by Ashley that I must have a referral by a general dentist to see Dr Yu. This was not about insurance because Dr Yu does not accept insurance. I told her that I was 100% sure I needed periodontic treatment and asked if the office would make an exception to see me without a referral. Ashley said no. So that same day, Friday, I set up to see a general dentist even though I knew it would be an extra step that would cost me EXTRA TIME and EXTRA MONEY. I had x-rays, measurements and an exam done by the general dentist and what do you know.. I need periodontic treatment. So with referral in hand on Monday January 25th I use the website / email platform to make an appointment with Dr Yu's office. After a number of hours have passed I did not receive a response from them to schedule me for an appointment. I didn't want to wait any longer so at this point I decided to call the office. I again spoke to Ashley and told her I have a referral from a gen dentist. She proceeded to tell me that she can schedule me with Dr Yu's partner Dr Litizette. I said no thank you. She again tried to sell me on the other doctor stating she has worked with Dr Yu for 12 years. I told her I would really prefer Dr Yu. That was my whole reason for doing the research prior to calling. That was also my reason for jumping through hoops and once again spending extra TIME and MONEY to get a referral from a gen dentist which in my opinion is an unnecessary step. Ashley put me on hold and then told me that Dr Yu is not seeing new patients. She also stated he is only doing surgery.. which I need for the recession that is occurring. She also stated he is only taking advanced cases. I respect every one of these things. The issue I have is: why was this not told to me during my initial call on Friday before I started your little process of jumping through hoops? Nobody likes wasting time, money or energy. Need an implant for a missing tooth. When spending a few thousand dollars on a procedure that should last a lifetime, a second opinion is a must. Unfortunately, the office refused to schedule an appointment without a referral. I offered to send a picture of a missing tooth to prove my need of a consultation, but my offer was not accepted. Referral was not really an option as I did not want my dentist know I'm shopping around for the procedure. Glad your business is doing well to turn away potential clients. Dr. Yu is the best doctor of any specialty that I have ever encountered in my life. I've been to him twice now for surgical procedures & those are never fun. The second time was much less scary bc I knew I was in the hands of a master with such a lovely bedside manner. Dr. Yu is just amazing. He has done two surgeries for me (a gum graft and extraction) and both had perfect results without complications. What he does is an art and his precision makes the healing process a breeze. I've only had to take ibuprofen with both surgeries for pain control because the discomfort was so minimal. When I had my wisdom teeth out years ago by a different doctor the pain was SO much worse than what I've had with Dr. Yu's procedures. I think he's just that good. Everyone in his office is very professional and friendly and you get the sense they really enjoy their job and care about you. I had bad experiences most of my life with going to dentists, so I waited long intervals between visits. I found myself in a situation where I needed help with a broken tooth, bleeding inflamed gums and facing future bone loss. I was referred to Dr. Yu and he said he would make sure I had a good experience. He did that and more. I could not be more relieved and today was my 2nd visit. I literally haven't felt any more pain than two Tylenol could take care of. And bleeding? That's so 20th century! After the extraction, sure. For the first few hours I had to change the gauze in my mouth. But after my implant procedure yesterday, there has been none at all. Believe the hype. Dr Yu really is that great. i got my gum graft from Dr. Yu more than a year ago now. i remember when i was considering getting it, i went online and read a lot of HORRIBLE HORRIBLE stories about how bad the surgery hurt and unsuccessful surgeries. i was definitely freaking scared. but since i gave Dr. Yu 5 stars, you have to know that it was the best surgery i've ever had :) no joke and no exaggerations. i opted to take the triazolam (pill) instead of the IV anesthesia based on price purposes. i think the pill was significantly less than the IV. the whole surgery took about 3 hours (i was awake but not lucid during the surgery) and afterwards, i had the best sleep EVER. where can i get more of those pills? jk...........somewhat. but the sleep did not happen before i scared some people at HEB with my crazy ramblings about mashed potatoes and my bloody retainer. during the recovery period, i kept waiting for the pain to kick it but it never did. at all. not even an itch. i panicked over the weekend (got my surgery on thursday...was able to go to work the next day) because i could feel some of the stitches. i called Dr. Yu on saturday and he was nice enough to return my call to reassure me that the graft is ok. Dr. Yu and his team are rock stars. Seriously. Hands down some of the best customer service I have ever had. I was referred to Dr. Yu by my regular (and also super awesome) dentist Dr. Hulse to have an implant done as one of my teeth supporting a bridge was no longer viable enough to maintain the bridge. From the initial consultation a month ago, to my implant yesterday morning, to my recovery today... it has been smooth sailing. He sectioned my bridge to remain one crown to stay in place, did the implant in the missing middle spot, and removed the back no longer viable for a bridge tooth which eventually will need an implant done. I was OUT through the entire thing and don't remember any of it! :) Dr. Yu and his team are efficient, professional, caring and 100% know what they are doing. The office is super clean and the room where I had my implant done was sterile and they did everything they could to make me feel comfortable (heated blankets..... so nice). Dr. Yu personally called me last night to see how I was feeling and the office even sent flowers today with a note wishing me a speedy recovery (SUPER thoughtful and a much appreciated touch!). I was EXTREMELY anxious about getting this procedure done because i am a big baby about pain..... and I am very surprised how little pain I have had since the surgery. The staff are super concise in giving you good after care instructions and making sure you understand them. I will need to have additional implants done which due to the cost (alas, they are expensive which is a major drawback in general) and while I may have stretch the implants out over time due to the expense, I will most certainly only go to Dr. Yu to have them done. I only wish all doctors were as excellent as Dr. Yu. After a failed surgery that required initial bone grafting and eventual removal of the failed implants with another local oral surgeon, my dentist recommended me to to Dr. Yu knowing that he practiced cutting edge techniques. Not only did the implants successfully take, but my recovery time was much easier and shorter. As a periodontist, Dr. Yu is very conscientious of the aesthetic outcome and ensures the work is done perfectly. His office staff is highly competent and friendly, his office equipment/setting is new, clean, and inviting. His bed side manner is comforting, he answers all questions, and his after surgery care shows true respect and concern for the individual. I can't say enough good things about his practice. I was given an unfortunate prognosis about a tooth I accidentally harmed. I killed the nerve by hitting it with a bottle. Dr. Yu and his team meticulously walked me through my options, and ultimately performed my extraction. I was immediately seen by Dr. kunik's team ( same business park ) and had my Invisalign tray with tooth put in to create the perfect aesthetic. Who wants a gum graft!? NOT ME! When I had to have one and my dentist's entire office swore I had to go to Dr. Yu for it, I was scared to death of the pain, the scariness of the surgery, all of it. Dr. Yu and his staff are incredibly professional, friendly and calming. I felt like I was in good hands the entire time. After the surgery, Dr. Yu himself called to check on me and remind me to take my painkillers (as if I needed a reminder). I have a feeling had I gone with a different periodontist, I would have ended up in much more pain than I did. And imagine my surprise when a couple of days after the surgery I got a delivery of flowers from the office. It was such a nice touch and very representative of my entire experience. I am so glad I went out of network in order to have Dr. Yu do my gum transplants. The procedure did not involve any more pain than a filling (about all I felt was the injections) and I did fine on just nitrous, avoiding anesthesia that my insurance company does not cover and the need for a ride home. He has a great chairside manner, very soothing and gentle. I felt more like I was being pampered than operated on. To my amazement, Dr. Yu himself called about three hours after I got home to check on me and answer any questions, and he encouraged me to call later if anything cropped up. The whole staff was very nice and incredibly accommodating. I also had a periodontal cleaning some 5 weeks later with some high-tech devices, no pain at all. My insurance company messed up bigtime in giving the estimate of what they'd pay ahead of time, and when I went in for the final visit they just handed me a check for the amount I overpaid because Humana Dental is so lame. The results were great, I can't wait to show off the grafts to my regular dentist. read more

I went to a dentist before who misdisagnosed a problem tooth for two months. By the time I saw a specialist, it was too late to save the tooth. You know those bad dreams everyone has about losing their teeth? Well mine was coming true. However, Dr. Yu and his awesome staff have made the experience much more pleasant so far. Awesome things: -Everyone who works there is extremely nice and helpful, especially Dr. Yu -They are very clear about the procedure you'll be having and explain it very thoroughly, including the pricing -The office is clean, state-of-the-art, and aesthetically pleasing -They have stuff like goggles/headphones you can wear to watch a movie while they work on your teeth, which makes it much less stressful. -You can tell that Dr. Yu is very up-to-date on all of the newest technology and techniques in his field and utilizes them with his patients. I've just had the extraction/bone graft, and still have months ahead in my implant procedure, but if it goes anything like my experience so far, I think I will be very happy. It's not cheap, but for something like a tooth that you'll need for like 50 more years, it's worth it. read more
