From first impression, they are a mom and pop repair shop located along the Southwest Houston car repair corridor. I had spoken to the owner, Micky about the services on my vehicle. He quoted me $700 to replace a broken headlight and a bent bumper. I asked him for a written quote and refusing, saying it was only a cash only deal. Surely, it might be higher once the bumper is taken off. However, I asked him if he can help me file an insurance claim, perhaps this was a better way to go. He was apprehensive to do so and he advised me that he prefers to do repairs paid via cash. I found this visit a little strange, so I left the shop and decided to not go with this repair shop.

My wife used Chris's Automotive twice this year for our little 2002 Civic. Once for 100,000 mile tune up with timing belt replacement and the other for minor transmission issues. I usually take it to our Honda dealer myself, so I was a little worried about having her take the car in by herself to some strange mechanic. But, this place was recommended to us by a friend, so she decided to give it a try. Both times, the shop owner ran full diagnostics, accurately solved the problems, and quoted us great rates for parts and labor. After meeting him, I find the owner to b super honest and knowledgeable, giving me the peace of mind that I'm not being taken for a sucker, you know what I mean? We'll b adding this place to our list of trusted mechanics. You always need more than one for those emegencies, right? Oh, I almost forgot, speaking of emergencies, I had to tow the car to Chris's Automotive from our house in Midtown and he didn't charge us anything! Came here for a wheel alignment, on a referral by Jim from Hare Repair…read more It's a little hard to find, as the shop is sandwiched between a strip of land at the Chimney Rock intersection where the Hwy 59 feeder road and Westpark Rd run parallel. They're the shop with the blue roof that's right next to the Mobil gas station on that intersection. My GPS told me to enter from the feeder road, but you actually need to turn into Chimney Rock and then come in by turning right onto Westpark Rd. There's hardly any parking either (like 3 spots or so)...BLEH. It was a Saturday morning and they were decently busy, but there wasn't a wait. The wheel alignment took only 45 minutes (I l had told them not to hurry since I had a ride and had gone to lunch, so they can probably do it faster if you had to stay and wait) and was only $45 (most can run from $50 to $99) so it was a pretty good deal. The alignment also comes with a 6000-mile warranty in case your car explodes after leaving the lot. A good recommendation from the guys at Hare Repair (it's also a good idea to mention that they're your mechanic since they know each other and will probably do better work, hehe). I'll definitely bring my car back here next time it needs tire work.

Needed window motors & regulators replaced on 3 windows, was told it would be a 4 hour job, car ready same day it was brought in. I dropped my car on Wednesday and got it back Saturday, only to find that they had scratched the tint on both rear windows, ground dirt and grease into the original flooring and not re-attached the rear door handle cover. As well, the lip seal on the rear right window does not sit against the glass and will likely allow water in and ruin the new regulator. I contacted them via Facebook multiple times to achieve a resolution to these issues, waited days for a reply, received none and am now posting this. The one thing I'll say is that they did only charge me the original quote but that's not actually any help after paying to have the carpets fixed, the tint replaced and the door fixed.

But hey, it's weird that the AC didn't work correctly for 2 days. So, considering I live in Texas - I figured, let me get it checked. I asked them to add refrigerant. Anyway - Carlos' guy said that the "hose" had a leak and needed to be replaced for $365. (They use a dye.) No problem - go for it. I pick up the car - it's blowing COLD. Wake up the next day and drive to work - NO AC. I call back - hey, the AC is not working. They say "can you bring it in now?" NO. I have to go to work. I call at 3:30 and ask if I can bring it in. "Nope - we are working on other cars." OK - well I'm sweating. So I drive 250 miles each way for work the next day - sweating in the south Texas heat. I bring the car in 3 days later and mention the fact that it was hot without AC. The response - something like - well it could have been hotter. OK - that's not helping. I call later that day at 4:30 (since I'd received no response all day). He says "Can we send you a photo by email?" Well I guess - but why will that help and when we're you going to call? There are more leaks in the AC, and I want to send you a pic of the hose - it will cost another $700. Ummmmmm. What??????????? Carlos - Can you just return the car to it's original condition? It was working fine. I just wanted you to add refrigerant. The response: "hey - it's not our fault that you have a complicated AC system." REALLY? Carlos - FYI- it IS your job to know it's a complicated AC system BEFORE you rip it apart and make it worse. His response - no it's not. Hmmmm. Carlos might do a great job on a 1980s era Fiat Spyder. But, cars today are a bit more complex. The worst part is that all he needed to do was say "hey, I'm sorry. I screwed up. I'll give you a discount on the remaining repairs." I even suggested that. (At most, he was willing to deduct $90 for the refrigerant.) Nope - he refused to admit it - saying it was not his fault, since the AC system was so complex. We'll Carlos - you've lost all 3 of my cars. Plus about 10 of the referrals I sent you. Oh - and even better is that he said "also the transmission on this car needs to be repaired as well." Imagine - he'd rip it apart, make it worse and then say "hey, it's not my fault - this transmission is really complicated." This is a classic bait and switch. DON'T BRING YOUR CAR HERE. You'd be better off paying top dollar at a dealer. I will give Carlos credit. He did return the $365 - which I interpret as an admission that he screwed up. Carlos - you could have admitted it and not lost a customer. Lesson learned.
