Is there a way to give 0 stars? BE VERY CAREFUL. I asked them to check the AC. It was blowing hot on the passenger side - but it started working ok again. But hey, it's weird that the AC didn't work correctly for 2 days. So, considering I live in Texas - I figured, let me get it checked. I asked them to add refrigerant. Anyway - Carlos' guy said that the "hose" had a leak and needed to be replaced for $365. (They use a dye.) No problem - go for it. I pick up the car - it's blowing COLD. Wake up the next day and drive to work - NO AC. I call back - hey, the AC is not working. They say "can you bring it in now?" NO. I have to go to work. I call at 3:30 and ask if I can bring it in. "Nope - we are working on other cars." OK - well I'm sweating. So I drive 250 miles each way for work the next day - sweating in the south Texas heat. I bring the car in 3 days later and mention the fact that it was hot without AC. The response - something like - well it could have been hotter. OK - that's not helping. I call later that day at 4:30 (since I'd received no response all day). He says "Can we send you a photo by email?" Well I guess - but why will that help and when we're you going to call? There are more leaks in the AC, and I want to send you a pic of the hose - it will cost another $700. Ummmmmm. What??????????? Carlos - Can you just return the car to it's original condition? It was working fine. I just wanted you to add refrigerant. The response: "hey - it's not our fault that you have a complicated AC system." REALLY? Carlos - FYI- it IS your job to know it's a complicated AC system BEFORE you rip it apart and make it worse. His response - no it's not. Hmmmm. Carlos might do a great job on a 1980s era Fiat Spyder. But, cars today are a bit more complex. The worst part is that all he needed to do was say "hey, I'm sorry. I screwed up. I'll give you a discount on the remaining repairs." I even suggested that. (At most, he was willing to deduct $90 for the refrigerant.) Nope - he refused to admit it - saying it was not his fault, since the AC system was so complex. We'll Carlos - you've lost all 3 of my cars. Plus about 10 of the referrals I sent you. Oh - and even better is that he said "also the transmission on this car needs to be repaired as well." Imagine - he'd rip it apart, make it worse and then say "hey, it's not my fault - this transmission is really complicated." This is a classic bait and switch. DON'T BRING YOUR CAR HERE. You'd be better off paying top dollar at a dealer. I will give Carlos credit. He did return the $365 - which I interpret as an admission that he screwed up. Carlos - you could have admitted it and not lost a customer. Lesson learned. read more

I would like to start by saying that I hate leaving negative reviews. I have to have a truly poor experience to do so. That being said, Floyd's Auto Repair in Houston, TX are at best negligent, dishonest and do not care about the safety of their customers. At worst, they intentionally lie about the work that they perform and take assume that you do not have the knowledge to call them out. They take advantage of people. Here is the backstory: I brought my car here to make sure that it was ready for a road trip. As a female who was going to be driving across country alone, I always make sure my car is looked at before a long drive. They replaced an axle, it was the wrong one and installed improperly. It was leaking the next day and it ended up causing a bearing to go out in my differential and costing me 1400 dollars worth of damage days after I left their shop. I have been to 4 different mechanics trying to fix the issues that they caused. They told me that they fixed my heaters (and charged me for an hour of labor). My heater was not working the very next day. On top of that, they did not inspect the vehicle at all, which they also lied about. I know this because the day after I picked it up, I had to bring my car into a different mechanic because when I got it on the highway it was extremely wobbly and dangerous to drive. When I brought it to the new mechanic, it took them less than 5 minutes to look at the undercarriage and identify that they idler arms were completely shot. They were shocked that my car had been at another mechanic the day before. Floyd's also was unable to tell the difference between a control arm and a differential housing bracket (if you are versed in cars this is a BIG red flag), they welded my car without speaking to me first. While the part was difficult to find and it did need to be welded, it is very odd to not run a welding by a customer beforehand. To add to all of this, Carlos, the owner, yelled at me on the phone when I confronted him. I asked him for an invoice of one of the parts that he installed because I have reason to believe that they said they installed a new part when they did not. He refused. He then told me that they did not endanger my life that it was my fault for driving an older car (my car is a 2003 Astrovan and while it is older, it is in excellent condition and when I brought it in initially, he was praising my car and saying how I needed to hold on to it and take good care of it as they are hard to find etc etc). All in all, it was a very bizarre experience that ended up costing my thousands of dollars and put my life in danger. You are welcome to read the google reviews for the other string of mechanics that I have now had to take my car to to fix the problems that started with Floyd's auto repair (they are all positive, even though the problem has been difficult to fix). Please do not take your vehicle here unless you know enough to double check the work that they do. They are dishonest and I believe the owner should have his license revoked. Edit in response to Carlos: My car does not have 180k miles on it, it had less than 150k when I brought it in. No-one threatened to sue Carlos while I was having repairs, I did say that we would be going to small claims court after the fact because I have now lost thousands of dollars and I almost lost my car, not to mention my time. I did give Carlos the opportunity to prove that he purchased the parts he claimed to have purchased and installed and he refused to send an invoice, which is again, very odd. We 100 percent said to do any and all repairs that had to do with safety. You did not inspect the vehicle or drive it otherwise the idler arms would have been extremely obvious. I almost lost control of the vehicle within miles of leaving your shop. This is all very odd, and it would be really easy for you to resolve by refunding us for the work that you did not do and for the work that you did improperly, with the wrong parts that had to be sent back. You installed the wrong axle and it had to be sent back. you caused damage to my vehicle that cost me a lot of money and you lied to us about inspecting the vehicle, fixing the heat, etc. All I have asked for is a refund because typically people do not pay for services that were not performed or parts that are removed days after they are improperly installed. read more

I bought a used 2007 Hummer H3 early last year. Went to 4 different mechanics spending hundreds of dollars on miscellaneous issues. Still couldn't get the H3 to run more than 3 months decent. I got referred to Carlos over at Floyds Auto. Carlos is straight forward. Charges correctly and is an honest business owner. I've had my Hummer now in for oil changes and minor things that I want checked..... my Hummer has been running wonderfully since my first visit to Floyd's Auto last year. I will never go anywhere else and of course refer everyone I know to go there for quality service and top notch business ethics. I recently thought I had a bearing issue. Took my Hummer in and it ended up being the rim cap. They could've taken my money.... As usual they are honest and doing great business and service practices! They have my business forever! I've been coming to Floyd's for over a year. My first time taking my truck to have the brakes fixed I had issues. Carlos personally drove with me to see what the problem was. He fixed the issue the next day. What I like about this shop is they are honest and give you the costs before fixing anything. They also don't try to sell you repairs that aren't needed. If you are looking for white glove service, go to a dealership. If you are looking to get your vehicle fixed quickly at a good price, go to Floyd's. read more

This place is a joke. Carlos is unfriendly, rude and disrespectful to women. When you ask questions about the repairs needed, he cant respond with a valid response. For example, my new battery was draining all the time. He says its parasite drain. I havent added anything aftermarket to my car and he hasnt even looked at it. Because of his attitude I didnt push the subject (and took it to the shop that replaced the battery the next day. It ended up just being a bad battery and it was replaced at no charge.) This guy speaks without investigation and Im not 100% sure he has any mechanical knowledge as he cant seem to explain repair procedures to customers in a way that makes you feel confident in his ability. I went in for an oil change, alignment and a dash light associated with the steering system. I brought my car in at opening. I was never called the entire day. I finally called him at 5.30 and he said I think its ready. WHat? When I arrived he said he couldnt completely align my car but he still charged me the full $150. For the Dash Light issue, He showed me a piece of paper where he had written down some fault codes. For those that dont know you car cant put out fault codes in the system but they dont necessarily cause a dash light. He gave me a list of fault codes (unrelated to my dash code). Its the same thing I could have received had I gone to the auto parts store and hooked up a scanner. Except it would have been free but he had the audacity to charge me $50. He didnt even give me a copy of the report. I asked what is need to fix and clear the steering code and he said he would need another day to "investigate". He should have done that the same day. The next day I went to another shop down the street. They were kind enough to tell me I had an oil leak on the valve cover. HELLO - Shouldnt the guy changing my oil have seen that and told me about it? I guess not. If you cant have confidence in your repair center or their employees its a bad warning sign. read more

On both occasions the guys at Floyd's did solid mechanical work for a fair price, and the work is warrantied against defects so I can relax about my car breaking down again. I've been coming here before the current owner (Carlos ) purchase the place. I personally never had any problems with the work. Customer service could always make room for positive steps forward :) . It hasn't been a problem to be seen quick for oil changes for the most part. Honestly, I haven't had any major problems with my honda. So my review may not hold much weight. I felt like it's getting close to a 5star location and I'm pleased to keep our $ in the Spring Branch area. PROS: Hours of operation are great. Location. Quality experience and honest work. CONS: minor. The customer service hasn't been too friendly lately (6 -9 months ). They actually close during lunch and the hrs are not posted. We've brought our cars to Floyd's for several years, and I can't say enough about how great these guys are. Because I'm not a car expert, my top priority in a mechanic is having someone I can trust. Carlos, the owner, in addition to being extremely personable, is straightforward and honest. I've been to mechanics in the past where I got the sense they were creating more work for themselves. Never once have I gotten that feeling at Floyd's. I brought my car in yesterday because the battery kept dying, even though it was relatively new. There were a couple possible explanations, some more expensive than others. They could have easily told me it was one of the more expensive issues, and I would have been none the wiser, but Carlos called this morning and let me know it was a relatively easy and quick (and inexpensive) fix. I've owed these guys a good review for a while now, but talking to Carlos today reminded me how thankful I am to have a mechanic I don't need to second-guess. 10/10, would recommend to anybody. read more

I take back all I wrote below: You all know how hard it is to find a trustworthy mechanic, right? You all have a car that is your baby and want someone to treat your car the way you would, right? You know that feeling of going through a dark tunnel with no light at the end? And how heartbreaking it is when the job done to your car is not done right? And then you know what a great feeling it is when you do find a trustworthy caring shining beacon of a mechanic, right? Well Carlos of Floyd's is just that. I had only trusted my car (pontiac g8 gt) to one dealership before I moved and had to find another place to go to take my 'baby' to for regular maintenance and other stuff. I searched and read reviews of mechanics nearest my new home location and decided to call Floyd's for a quote and also to gauge what kind a service they give over the phone. Carlos was quick to answer the phone -a good sign - and gave me a quote that was better then three other quotes I had obtained a few months before. When I got there I knew that he knew his stuff because he was very informative. The job was done relatively quick and I drive off looking forward to my next visit. Carlos is indeed that light at the end of the tunnel and I recommend those that care for their baby/car to entrust him and his team to do the job right and just as importantly without being gouged. read more

Top notch work and service. Brought my classic car here for quite a bit of work right after buying it and Carlos even dealt with paying the transportation compay, which was certainly a time saver for me. After giving it a thorough inspection, we talked about what to prioritize and the various options, e.g. whether to rebuild current radior or upgrade and replace. Carlos did a great job of repairing the most important items (as there was other repairs that could've been made) and making sure I was in the loop. I truly believe he puts the customer first and wants to make sure they are satisfied. When I saw the final invoice, I felt like the labor charges were more than reasonable for the amount of work done, so know I got an exceptional value for quality work. Certainly a customer for life! Carlos the owner charged me $1000 "to fix my car", my car only worked for 1 day and then it was back to the same condition from when I had originally left it. He kept my car for 1 whole month and he just kept on giving me the runaround. I got fed up so I had to pay to get my car towed to another mechanic shop and he refused to give me my money back. The other mechanic was able to fix this "huge issue" that my car supposedly had for under $100 and in a matter of 2 days. Honestly stay away from this place. They seem honest and all but then end up screwing you and not fixing your car. read more

Floyds auto repair is by far the best I've been to! The owners name is Carlos and have been going to him for several years now. He's worked on my BMW and my Infiniti, and he always charges a fair price. He is bmw certified as he worked for them for the upward of 14 years I believe. The quality of her work is also amazing, as well as the parts he uses. There really isn't much else to say expect go here. I came here because of yelp. The women who helped me initially was so nice and pleasant I immediately felt comfortable , I felt that I was in good hands. I received a call rather quickly to inform me that more test would be required. ( also there is a diagnostic fee) I was told that several codes came up that indicated the catalytic converter and turbo were in need of repair but the transmission was the major cause and needed to be replaced first and would be 2500 to fix. At that price I of course needed a second opinion, so I when to pick up my car and was met with ( in my opinion) some irritation on the part of the owner. I waited on my regular mechanic to come back from vacation and while he did indeed say the transmission was was showing some initial signs of problems it was the catalytic converter that was causing the problem I brought my car in for. I had my mechanic fix the catalytic converter. I am now driving my car while saving money to have the transmission done later. The other way around I would have had the transmission done then find out it would still be unable to drive my car because it would still need a catalytic converter. Working Mom's Hero! Carlos and his team were my heroes recently when my AC went out. I went to three places to get an estimate, including a mechanic I have used for the last three years, and Carlos won my business first and foremost because he took the time to personally review the problem, and speak to me promptly about the issues and possible solutions. He walked through the situation in a professional courteous manner, detailed what needed to be done, and gave me options and prices up front. Wow! My dad's a mechanic, so I always bounce issues off him, and Carlos was spot on with his assessment. Carlos' prices were very fair, his office and shop are clean and organized, his office manager is a very kind and helpful lady. It's first class all the way, and quick! Honest, affordable, and efficient. I didn't think these things existed in the world of auto mechanics anymore, but at Floyd's, they DO! They made sure my kids and I weren't sweating in the Houston heat, or over an inflated bill, and for that he is my first and only choice going forward. Without question an owner of great conviction to quality, and service. A shop full of unquestionable automotive experience and expertise. I have never been disappointed with service, or the price for a repair. Communication has always been quick and on point. There have been times when an extensive repair was needed at considerable cost. However, after comparing estimates, Floyd's has always been lower than the other estimates. I have had everything done here from an oil change, to brakes, full suspension, to fuel injection issues to body work done here and the quality and service get no better than at Floyd's. Lower prices does not mean a lesser fix...What it translates too is an Owner/Proprietor who has concern for the customer's wallet, and a willingness to make a fair and honest profit, and not overcharge those that keep him in business. Carlos is as honest and expert as they come. His Certified Mechanics are as well. You cannot go wrong here! I am a 8+ year customer, and have recommended many friends and family to this shop.
