Terrible. Called for an appointment for haircut and highlight. Was giving the salon a chance after they lost a good stylist , Called for an appointment on Monday for Friday was given a 4 pm appointment with Elizabeth. I questioned if that was enough time for a highlight and haircut and was told yes. Was told elizabeth does 1 hour highlights and there was more than enough time. Friday i get called about my appointment for a "single process" . I have never in my life had a "single process" i said no my appointment is for highlight and haircut. Front desk says "oh yes you are right highlight and hair cut".. ten minutes later call me back . ON THE DAY OF THE SERVICE and say sorry cant do that. We don't have time for that service. . I arrived at Gil Ferrer Salon for my appointment with Gil with much anxiety. Just a week prior I had gotten an awful haircut and I was hoping that Gil could fix it. He not only fixed it, but he has given me a haircut that suits my face and my wash-and-go but still polished look. This is the best I could have wished for outside of Paris. All signs were good: Gil listened to what I had to say before even touching my hair, he looked at the structure of my face, which side is higher/lower, etc., and did a dry haircut (which always works best for my fine, straight hair). He was very friendly and approachable, honest, and gave good advice for styling for my hair type and for this cut. I have found my stylist. Thank you, Gil! I rarely write yelp reviews. The experience must be incredibly good or very challenged. Let me start by saying this is no reflection on the stylists that work at this establishment. Let me also say that I have been coloring my hair from brunette to blonde for 18 years. I live in New York City and have gone to salons ranging from high end to a no name groupons for a quick touch up. I generally want to know 2 things. How much time will this take and how much will this cost as the range can be from $150 to $600 and I wish to know what to expect. That being said, in my experiences nothing like this has ever happened. I made an appointment at this salon in Bridgehampton Commons and called that morning to see if they could take me earlier and check on pricing. I asked specifically what the charge would be for a single process and partial highlights. I was advised starting at $185 depending on my length of hair. I arrived and sat with the stylist for a consult. The stylist recommended balancing color with single process and then applying highlights. Once I was ready for rinse after the single, I waited at the sinks with other customers. The women who checked me in approached me. She said, "I wanted to tell you that single process is $135 and your full highlights will be another $250. I said, "what??" She repeated and said, "I just wanted to let you know." Shocked at a $200 increase to the original estimate, I advised that I wanted partial highlights and was quoted $185. She repeated, "I just want to let you know." I asked to speak to a manager. In came a woman who introduced herself as the manager and the one who took my call. In front of everyone at the wash station she said, "I said starting at $185." I advised that I thought a jump in $200 for the estimate should have been discussed before we began the process, I didn't want full highlights. I asked about partial highlights vs full and got no answers, just attitude. I said I would talk to the stylist for options. Once in the stylist chair, the stylist said that estimates should never be given on the phone. I questioned that if single process is $135, how could additional highlights ever be $185 and that I felt it was a dishonest estimate. The stylist expressed his frustration with management and said it wasn't his fault. I acknowledged he had no responsibility for pricing and said "well that is what yelp is for." At that, the stylist refused to work on me and walked away. I was left with a wet uncombed head of hair. I asked someone from the desk if I could please pay for the single process, no blow dry so I could get out of there. It was humiliating. They didn't charge me to their credit. I gave the stylist a $20 tip for his time, removed my robe and towel and exited. I was appalled and embarrassed. This is not a salon experience or a quaint upscale venue. This is a salon in a strip mall next to K Mart. Asking what to expect in pricing when making an appointment is not unreasonable. Having that estimate change from the phone to walk in can always happen. However, the quote given was mathematically impossible. Once I arrived that dramatic of a change should be discussed with a client upfront and privately. That is certainly reasonable. Treating people with respect should always be included in a service. read more

I'm not sure of the name of the stylist who did my hair but she did the exact opposite of what I asked for. After 4 hours-much of it sitting and waiting while my stylist went to Panera, ate lunch and ran from chair to chair - I left with bleached hair. I had gone in to darken my hair and she bleached it bright blonde. They had offered to fix it but I decided I had no faith in the salon and after $285 down the drain went somewhere else. I found the salon to be very unprofessional. Luckily I found a salon right in the middle of the village in East Hampton that did an amazing job! read more

The best and the nicest place for your hair visit! Anytime I leave this place ,people praise my hair for weeks and my hair is not easy to fix it ( fine hair growing fast ,showing the grey fast ), so I visit Claudette for my highlights and Taka for my haircut. Gil, the owner always walks around and checks on everyone ,even if you are not his client, he has a great sense of 'artistic" look and I learned he is indeed an Artist himself ! ( in his spare time he is the painter and some of his work is displayed in the saloon ). I see often some young attractive people (models ?) there and I can not help but keep looking at their hair being done by Gil, the way he works is like working on his art project. DONT DO IT!!! DONT GO THERE!!!! THEY WILL RUIN YOUR HAIR!!! I went in with very long, healthy hair, I came out with short, uneven hair.. I asked Taka to just cut off the ends but keep most of the length and the layers. I now have no layers and uneven hair that looks absolutely awful! Also they call that a blowdry?? I can do better than that with my eyes closed!! Its been nearly a week and I've been crying over my ruined looks ever since! I went back for them to fix the problem, barely got an apology, everyone was staring at me as if i was the one in the wrong, Gil kinda evened out the problematic bits but I still have to wait years to grow it out in order to cut again and get my layers back. I have curly hair which I now have to straighten every day... I think my behavior showed how unhappy I was about this, they offered a refund for the cut, but if they had an ounce of decency they would have offered extensions to give me some hair back!! Bottom line: unless you have thin, straight, short hair don't go there!! read more

Ive been going to this salon for probably 40 years; sometimes twice a year, sometimes more. It's morphed from it's posh E 74th Street large salon, always lovely, always fun of my youth, to it's more modest location now. I have never gotten anything but wonderful hair styling and hair color here. the stylists seem to have a sixth sense about what looks good on me, the type of person I am, and send me out feeling pretty and confident, with a style I can manage. Taka styled my hair today with his usual precision and care. I remember him as a young stylist, almost dancing around his clients. So that's the story--you can't go wrong here. I was greeted with such hospitality and was offered a cappuccino upon arrival. The staff is cheerful and down to earth and service was fantastic. That's just the beginning . I stopped going to Gil Ferrer after several years of their trying to get things "right". Generally, my haircuts were pretty good but when they weren't, they were really, really bad. On several occasions, they cut my hair so that the whorl in the back was accentuated, leaving me with what appeared to be a BALD spot. Thanks, alot Gil! And then there was the time...and to be fair, it only happened once when a piece of my bangs was cut so short it sort of stood up. I returned the next day and they ACCUSED me of having tried to trim my hair myself and that I caused this problem. If they had apologizedand accepted responsibility, I probably would have continued with them but blaming me for their error was unacceptable. read more

This salon is perfect for me. The main attraction is Taka, who gives me a cut that's very becoming and easy to manage. I first went several years ago, when I saw a woman in the park whose haircut I loved. I asked her where she got it done, and she said Taka at Gil Ferrer. That decided me to finally cut my long hair, and I was delighted with the result -- and remain so. Have recommended Taka to several friends who like my hair. I asked her where she went and she said Gil Ferrer Salon. So I decided to give it a try and WOW! I feel like a movie star! Best Color and Highlights ever! Haircut...Amazing!I even got a manicure while i was getting my hair colored. One stop shopping. I truly feel like a MILLION bucks! I never thought I could look like a celebrity. The moment I stepped into the salon...I was greeted with such warm smiles and hospitality. They offered me a cappuccino.... best in town and it came with a big smile design in the foam. So sweet. They took me right on time and even got to meet Gil Ferrer himself, Such an amazing man. Since I'm getting Married I also had a Wedding Trial with this talented group of people. Ive never looked better. The Hair and makeup was exactly how i always wanted to look on my wedding day. Its just a dream. I highly recommend this salon to people who want to look and feel great.
