I have three kids, two kids in the school currently and one has already graduated. They are all very different and have their strengths and challenges, but they all thrived in this school. They all love coming to school. They never want to miss school even on days when they are under the weather. There is so much love and kindness given to these students, and they want to reciprocate. They care about everything. They care about everyone. They care about themselves. They want to do well. They do morning meditation and yoga which is such a great way to start the day. They are allowed to explore and learn as much as they can about any subject that they are passionate about. My kids love all the projects and learn so much from them. My oldest still knows all the facts from her dinosaur and planet projects from 2nd grade. She knows all about the state she researched in 3rd. She learned about all the Greek Myths from one of her 4th-grade elective projects. She still updates our online family tree she started in 5th grade while learning about genealogy. The art projects that sometimes take 5 weeks to finish because of the amount of detail that goes into them are on display all over my home. They can use any color, any medium, and any material in the art room. They read widely and often in every grade. My kids all love the class plays that take place at the end of the year. They are all so entertaining. I look forward to them every spring. Now can you see why they wouldn't want to miss a day? I can truly go on and on. I'm having a hard time condensing this post because there is so much to say about this wonderful school. I feel so fortunate to have found it and that my kids get their academic foundation here. Children deserve an educational environment where their academic progress, emotional well-being, social development, confidence, and sense of belonging are protected above all else. My child attended East Woods from nursery, and my greatest concern has always been the impact on my child. In my experience, my child did not receive the level of support needed to truly thrive academically, socially, or emotionally. Important learning needs were not identified or addressed in a timely manner, and seeing my child struggle academically, including entering first grade without the reading foundation expected for that level, was heartbreaking. A child's education is about much more than tuition, enrollment, or attendance. It is about recognizing each child's individual needs, supporting their growth, building confidence, encouraging friendships, and ensuring that they feel valued and supported. During a difficult family situation, I believe my child's educational experience was negatively affected by decisions surrounding parental involvement. I was excluded from aspects of my child's school experience, and my understanding was that this occurred because the other parent, who was responsible for tuition payments, would not continue with the school unless I was excluded. Regardless of the circumstances between adults, the child should always be the priority. A school's responsibility is to protect the child's academic progress, emotional well-being, social development, and relationship with supportive parents whenever possible. My concern is that children from families experiencing divorce or separation deserve the same level of care, neutrality, and advocacy as every other child. No child should lose opportunities for support, connection, or a sense of belonging because of adult disagreements. Parents place enormous trust in school leadership. They deserve transparency, fairness, and a commitment to putting children first. Families should feel confident that concerns are heard, learning differences are recognized, and decisions are made based on what is truly best for the child. I encourage parents to ask questions about how a school handles learning needs, parental involvement, and difficult family situations. If other families have experienced concerns regarding communication, educational support, or their child's school experience, I encourage you to document your experiences and seek appropriate guidance. No child should lose opportunities to learn, grow, feel supported, and thrive because of circumstances beyond their control. The child must always come first.

My son was bullied, and then me. On October 3, 2023, my 3-year old son informed me that he was just…read morescratched and pushed by another boy. And that the same boy smacked him on the head on a prior occasion. I immediately informed his teacher . She asked who. My son said he already left, was wearing green. I informed his teacher the same and she blew me off that everyone is wearing green. On October 4, 2023, I arrived early to the schools outdoor playground to pick my son up. I caught on video the boy standing around waiting for my son to come out. And then attack him repeatedly, which my son blocked. I immediately told what I saw, to which she replied that she had kept them apart. On October 5, 2023, I showed her the video and she said she would contact the boy's mother. On October 6, 2023, teacher told me the boy's mother, did not like that I videotaped the boy. No apology or anything. Even if it was a stranger, the parent would at least apologize, but she didn't. On October 23, 2023, is when I first discovered who the bully's mother is because previous to that I did not see his mother accompany him. I ran into the boy's mother, in the hallway and confronted her about her son bullying my son. She refused to talk to me at all, went straight to the teacher, who then went to get the head of the school, all sat in a room and discussed what happened, I doing all the talking of what happened. Bully's mother just said she didn't have time for this and then left. Head of the school said I could get a refund. I said I wanted a mediation with the bully's parents.. Head said she is not a mediator but she will try to arrange one. On October 27, 2023, head met with me and informed me that they refused to mediate. She further tried to convince me to stay saying many nice things about how I am the type of parent that this school wants. She gave me her private number. On various occasion in November 2023, bully's mother regularly passes me and and my husband by. She gives me dirty looks. One time when my husband picked up my son and she picked up hers, then she said to bully: "Don't go near those people." I am Chinese by the way. On December 20, 2023, head emailed me a letter terminating my son from the school for allegedly cursing at bully's mother--which I did not do. Bully's mom is a snob and the school is elitist.

Now, on the other hand, I have had two brothers go through the Special Education program and have watched time and time again as the program failed my brothers. The school district misdiagnosed my little brother saying that he had ADD and so prescribed him adderall when, in reality he was dyslexic. Anyway, I think they need to develop their Special Ed programs. The school district is in need of good Special Ed teachers who bring the education to the students in a non-traditional way. I loved Robbins Lane, loved HBT and loved SHS. I thank God for the experiences I had at these schools. They made me the person I am today.

SCSD prepares you along every step of the way, and especially to be a success in, and out of the classroom. I myself took 12 AP courses throughout my high school career, and I can attest that their standards help you prepare for college. Their sports, among other activities allow for well-rounded students come graduation day. The fine arts program is also extremely well funded, and allows for students to pursue their interests. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Syosset's teachers are paid higher, our taxes are higher, and our superintendent gets paid too much, but results come at a cost. I cannot speak about the Special Education programs as I have no personal experience with them, but for the average student going through Syosset, the results speak for themselves. A shout out to the Girls Varsity Tennis Team which has won Long Island Championships for 3 years in a row! Rock on girls, make me proud :)
