My biggest regret in life is trusting this "doctor". Do not see Dr Meyers unless you are a professional or college athlete that has world class healthcare and the money to get this surgery multiple times. Pro athletes that have gotten this surgery include Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds, Steven Stamkos, Shayne Gostisbhere, Brand Marchand, Rhys Hoskins, Kevin Hayes, Odell Beckham. Research what happened to them after they got surgery from Dr Meyers. I got core muscle surgery at Vincera 10 years ago after seeing Dr Meyers. He told me it would take 6-8 weeks to heal. I did everything they asked me to do but it was very clear they didn't care about me because I wasn't an influential athlete. My physical therapist was either still in training or had just finished. I also told them several times my legs weren't healing the way I thought they would but no one seemed to care. I was in so much pain the next 3 years it hurt to get out of my bed or out of my car. It is now 10 years later and I still have to do pt 3 days a week and dry needling once a week to be a fraction of the person I was before. The nonchalance and medical neglect of this entire staff has negatively impacted my entire life for what will be over a decade. Thanks for ruining my life. read more

I have a suspected torn labrum, therapy was prescribed. The Vincera Rehab is supposed to be the best. After about 10 sessions, I experienced severe pain that I thought might be a hernia. I stopped therapy with the intention of going back when I felt better. I still have a problem. Five months after I started Vincera decided to send me a bill for $551.14. I was told from the beginning my insurance would cover the therapy, I paid the $40 co-pay for each visit. I thought this was normal. The extra $551.14 really makes me angry. read more

I've been waiting nearly 2 years to write this review. I live in Seattle and flew out to Philly to have core muscle surgery on both sides after months of PT and rest did not help and learning that Vincera was pretty much the only clinic that handled the surgery I needed. The lone bright spot in the experience was the lovely Dr. Meyers. He was kind and caring and is obviously THE MAN when it comes to these injuries. The experience went downhill after the surgery. This surgery is still considered "experimental" by insurance companies (despite it being shown to be nearly 100% effective in elite athletes for several decades), so insurance does not cover it upfront. I had to write a check for $16k the day before surgery and was instructed by Vincera to submit the claim for reimbursement to insurance myself. The Vincera office staff assured me they would provide me with resources to appeal to the insurance (although they were not optimistic that I'd be successful). The "resources" were a couple of articles from the early 2000s on the effectiveness of the surgery. After spending hours compiling more recent research and getting letters from another orthopedic doctor I'd consulted with, my general practitioner and physical therapist, months later, I successfully won my appeal for the medical necessity of the surgery. However, because of the technicality that Vincera had me submit the claim to insurance vs. them submitting it, Premera said they could not process the appeal. Easy fix - I just needed Vincera to submit the claim. However, they refused to do so, stating this was "not their process". The staff members I talked to were very rude and clearly didn't have any interest in helping me get my $ back. Premera reached out to them directly on my behalf to try and get them to cooperate and got the same rude attitude and unwillingness to help. This dragged on and on for another year, with me having to file multiple appeals and spend hours at a time on the phone with Premera. Eventually, Premera made a one-time exception (probably because I'd been pestering them for over a year) and I ended up getting paid back in full, 22 months after my surgery. This whole ordeal could have been avoided if Vincera had been willing to simply submit the claim. They are used to dealing with professional sports clubs (50% of their business), where $ is not an object. And they have a corner on the market, so customer service isn't a priority. I wonder if Dr. Meyers is aware of the unethical billing practices and horrible customer service of his back-office staff? read more

I'm a tennis and squash player who has been dealing with hip and core muscle/sports hernia injuries. I haven't felt this strong or healthy in years. If you have thousands of dollars to spare on a what appears to bea surgery mill - kind of reminds me of the gastric bypass surgery mills in Beverly Hills back in the 2000's- then this is the place for you. They are dishonest about costs when they have you sign the paperwork. They tell you they don't take insurance and charge you up front, A LOT of money. When asked if there well be any surprise bills after the surgery they said "no". That was a lie. My son had 2 surgical procedures by two physicians but in ONE facility- Vincera. He never left the operating room between surgeries. Yet they charged me 2 facility charges. One they billed to my insurance company, one I paid cash for. This seems like double billing to me. The last bill they sent me was $4400.00 I set it up on automatic draft to my HSA account at $200 per month. Once the $4400 was met, they continued to draft my account. When I called to ask to address it with them theu said I owes them more money, yet I have never been billed for this additional money and never gave them permission to draft my account for more than the amount I agred to. so here it is, 3 years later, and I am still be charged "surprise" charges for a surgery that made my 21 ywar old son worse tjan he was before the surgery. read more

I must say that I am baffled that Vincera Rehab has yet to be reviewed! I've been going to this hidden gem located in the Navy Yard for about a month now & I have yet to be disappointed. For any athlete, it's important to address injuries, no matter how minimal, with a specialist to prevent it from getting any worse. Thanks to my Sports Medicine Doctor for referring me to this place! I have worked with both Maria & Alex. As a powerlifting athlete, I'm always tight, so without proper stretching & exercises, I am more prone to injuries & imbalances. I've been getting my hip & shoulder worked on on a weekly basis. After ever session, I have been feeling more mobile & stable. Maria & Alex has been prescribing me exercises to target my weaknesses (found out it was my glutes & hammies!). They're not easy, but they've been working because my lifts have never been better! I've been to other PT's prior to Vincera, & they never took the time to really treat my issues. At Vincera Rehab, they actually take the time to work with you & they NEVER rush you out when their next appointment comes in like my prior PT did. The staff works together as a team to make sure you're taken care of. I sure as heck felt taken care of. I cannot recommend this place enough for all your rehab needs, but I dare you to give it a try. read more

I am writing this yelp review from the perspective of a groin patient, but also a retired academic cardiologist. Although not sure what to expect from my evaluation by the innovator and thought leader in core injury and athletic pubalgia, I found Dr. Meyers to be exceptionally patient, kind, and compassionate. As expected, his knowledge about my injury was superb. He listened patiently to my very long history and then asked very insightful and pointed questions. His physical examination was detailed and comprehensive, more so than any I had previously. Because of the unique concentration of specialized physicians diagnostic imaging and interventional pain specialists all within the setting of one building (problematically, not available any where else), Dr. Meyers was able to utilize and integrate all this specialized knowledge to arrive at a diagnosis and treatment plan. He patiently and clearly explained my diagnosis to me and fielded and my many questions well into the late hours. Everyone I met at Vincera including clerks, assistants, and physical therapists were knowledgeable, efficient, kind and compassionate. I can only assume they were following the tone and culture established by Dr. Meyers Core injury is a complex problem and only a handful of physicians are able to address it appropriately.. I am very grateful for Vincera Institute and the treatment they offer. I would recommend, and do recommend, this facility and its doctors and staff to quite a few people, actually! I had a new procedure there, a dual surgical repair of both muscle tears (sports hernia, as it's generally known) and hip arthroscopy for a labral tear, which was very successful. The only downside currently to Vincera is the price, though most of that is simply because travel and accommodations for healthcare and surgical procedures can be quite pricey. Local hotels do offer special rates for patients of Vincera, which is helpful. Meyers also doesn't take insurance, though the surgery can be submitted to insurance after the fact for reimbursement. More than anything, the surgeons are absolutely amazing, and also extremely nice people as well! Dr. Meyers is an expert in his field, but also very caring and nice, known for texting patients post-op to make sure they are OK. He also has several top orthopedic surgeons on staff and is building a premier center for core injuries in the U.S., something otherwise unheard of here. There is a PT team upstairs, yoga, massage, a chiropractor, and even a lovely cafe. I hope it continues to grow and be an option for those who have suffered the horror of the dreaded "sports hernia"! I'm not sure that one can even get treated simultaneously anywhere else for a hip injury and athletic pubalgia in one procedure, and then receive PT afterwards (PT DOES accept insurance, by the way!)! read more

I really liked my pain doctor so when he left Drexel for Vincera Institute I followed. However, the office staff is a HUGE mess. I've nearly untangled myself from there and broken ties with that office. A lot of work- I've been given the runaround, actually straight up lied to several times about things being taken care of and the ball has been dropped on so many occasions leading to delays in treatment. I would call to cancel an appointment and mark that in my calendar (with the name of who I spoke with) and then get accusatory calls the day of appointment that I never canceled etc. My other doctors' office staff, unfortunately are no strangers to dealing with that mess on a regular basis. Also, my doctor's nurse practitioner of many years that I relied on tho make any headway left too. I was a little late for my appointment and I couldn't be seen by the doctor I had made an appointment with. I was asked if I wanted to see the Physicians Assistant. "YES PLEASE!!!!" Battling CRPS/RSD is difficult. I just wanted to feel like a normal person again. The PA's name is Olivia. She was AMAZING!!! She listened. She knew what I was going through. She could see my pain and agony. She new exactly what I needed. The amount of information that I learned from one appointment was mind blowing. I was given so many ideas on how to coup with my issues. This is the kind of doctors that listen to your issues, make decisions and recommendations with you all in the best interest. I will update this review as things progress, but as of this point (3 weeks out of surgery) these guys and gals are fantastic. each and every person I've dealt with has been kind, helpful and professional. Marcia, Kendal, Brook, Dr Meyers, Dr Poor, Dr Salvo, all of the folks upstairs in the PT suite. the list is too long and some people I can't remember because I was under some anesthesia. At 40 years old, I had my right hip repaired (FAI with labrum detachment) and bilateral core repair. I could feel the improvement the very next day. each day following was even better. yes there is soreness and pain here and there, but it is 100% better than pre surgery. now that I'm 3 weeks out, I only occasionally aggravate a still recovering muscle. prior to surgery I could not stand for more than a few minutes before my hip hurt. I could not rise from a sitting position without feeling like my abdomen was tearing apart and walking hunch over until I could slowly straighten my torso. I'm already mostly crutch free, still need to baby the hip and not over exert the core muscles, but for only 3 weeks out, I'm excited as all hell that I'm this improved. the hard part is going to be holding back as the weeks go and the discomfort is less, I'll have to find a way to remind myself to take it easy until cleared to go harder. some highlights... the office staff give you every bit of information regarding your condition, the procedure, the recovery and potentially the most important, the costs. despite my thick headedness I knew everything I needed to know prior to the procedures. Any questions I had, regardless of how many times they have already answered it, they politely and promptly responded. the doctors care. REALLY. My surgery was at 5A.M. about 9P.M. Dr. Meyers contacted me to see if everything was ok. I was a bit out of it so I didn't see the message until later and replied with a text. about 3 A.M. he responded to the text. the next day Dr. Meyers' office and Dr. Salvo's office called to check on my progress. And, the next day at Physical therapy both Dr. Meyers and Dr. Poor came up to check on us patients. and I've seen them up there many times since. the PT staff is specifically aware of what is required to recover at the proper pace for each patient based on their history, surgery. they are in contact frequently with the Doctors so if there is any issues or concerns, they get addressed, practically instantly. And you get individual care with the therapist, even if they have a few patients at the same time, you still get every ounce of care/therapy you need. I did therapy for a year prior to getting surgery at a couple different PT companies. I got an hour in the office despite the amount of time I actually got from the therapist. not here, at the Vincera therapy, I'm there until I get every bit of rehab required that day. as of right now, I don't have any cons. ask me about my insurance company... that would be a different story. I wish that I did not wait so long to get this procedure done. There are so many little aches, pains, clicks, pops, and pulls that were related to these Hip and Core issues, that I wrote off as a part of being older. I'm currently, thanks to all the folks at Vincera, aches, pains, clicks, pops, and pulls free. when the scar tissue from surgery goes away, and I understand this will take some time, I fully anticipate getting back to sports at my previous levels. Aug 28, 2016 wanted to update this, at about 5.5 months after surgery, I was in fact back to my sports and activities. not at the same level just yet, I am still cautious and rebuilding strength, but I'm playing and feeling good.
