When I asked if the mushrooms are fresh or canned, she told me they were fresh, so I ordered a mushroom cheese steak. That was a lie, and I just spent the majority of my break picking them out. Great spot to go every time I am back in town. The food not only tastes great but the portions are incredible. I ordered a small hoagie and it was big enough for two, I'm guessing the large would feed a family. The prepared foods in the cooler are great as well, I always load up on a variety of them. Great place to get an actual hoagie/sub in town. They use good bread (which is the true staple to any sandwich making process). The coal cracker is my favorite as it has a great flavor and amount of meat, but I have honestly ordered meatball subs and roast beef hoagies also that were just as good. It is your typical sandwich shop, you have the sandwiches and a bunch of deep fried sides to pick from. They have a large supply of chips, sodas and other drinks to choose from. They will deliver on certain days if you live in the area. On a busy night it takes about 30 minutes to pick up your order. Everything about this place was amazing! I've been to Mt. Carmel twice now in the last few months and have asked anyone I met what was a good place to eat in Mt. Carmel. Everyone said the same thing...."ummm... there's nowhere really good to eat here...you would have to drive a little way to get good food ". And then someone mentioned this place the second time I was there. The people working there were extremely friendly, and the atmosphere of it was very nostalgic and I could have spent more time there looking at everything while I waited for me food, which was reasonably priced I thought. I just wanted a chicken cheese steak and I saw that it was like $9 for a 9 inch sandwich, freshly made by these very nice people, and it was the best chicken cheese steak I've ever had. Idk why people gave it bad reviews my experience was good. The place is great has some really cool historical local flare inside. I love local places with an appreciation for the area. The large hoagies are HUGE and plenty for 2 people or a next day meal. I' ve had the coal cracker which was really good basically an italian but it was packed with meat and veggies. The roast beef I had didnt have nearly as much meat but was still good. My son had a cheesteak which he said was decent. Is it the greatest place in the world, no. But compared to the other choices in My. Carmel which are non-existent this is a Michelin starred restaurant. They carry a lot of local and homeade food in the coolers. I havent tried any so I cant speak for the taste. My one gripe, who doesnt cut a giant hoagie? Come on man... Recommendation: Large Coal Cracker with your favorite toppings and eat it for 2 days. read more

Best sandwiches in town. Highly recommend the "Coalcracker" which is an Italian hoagie. If you get the large, you will have a meal for the next day also. I like it with mayo, Italian dressing, banana peppers and onions. The prices are reasonable for the size of the sandwiches. Sodas are available, and they feature Ben's and Guers. The cooler also has salads and other items that seem to vary from time to time. I like the variety of Pennsylvania made potato chips. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. I ordered my food & when it arrived only half of it was brought to me and the guy literally walked off with over $10 in money he was supposed to give me as my change. i spoke to what I assume was the manager and she told me " oh my worker would never do that " and that she would " count the bag " & was just being rude over the situation when I was nothing but calm Speaking to her. The delivery driver also called me on his PERSONAL number to ask why I said he "snatched my money and ran away " with my change, which was not said. would not recommend at all. read more

Over Peiced food that was over cooked & dry. I ordered a lg. cheesesteak wth mushrooms & O's & a lg. Chicken cheesesteak wth BBQ sauce, & a Fryed Chicken dinner. Both where dry not much meat, cheese. Mushrooms or onions on it. No BBQ Sauce on the Chicken. The only good thing was the rolls the Fryed Chicken dinner was over cooked & dry too. They put the dinner in styrofoam container that melted from the heat & the frys where soggy!!! The coast was $ 38.00. Plus tax the steak sandwiches where $14.50 each. Bought a jar Of soupies, ( not the first time I bought jars of soupies from here or other places) gold mold on it. This is the first time I've ever seen fluffy green mold on a soupie. Let me say I've NEVER added oil to my jars and I never had this experience. Not only that but In the past I've had a jar last me almost a year opened with no added oil. Called them up to ask about it and got a rude lady who told me to just wipe it off and it's basically my fault for not adding oil. Sorry but your jars don't tell me to do so. MAYBE you could put instructions for those who don't know. Waste of 20 bucks. I told her that I looked it up and certain green molds can eat through the casing... her reply? " oh..." proceeded to tell me sorry with a snippy attitude and to add oil. Can't say I tried everything but the cheese steaks are very small and the price of them are terrible, i can't understand why some of these reviews on here say that of the opposite unless their employees or haven't gone anywhere else or possibly have no taste receptors lol. I sooner make one at home then order one from there .barely no cheese or sauce and very little steak. Delivery service took 45 minutes plus to just go 8 blocks and to order for a family it was more expensive than going to a nice restraunt. The place has a great atmosphere and just waking in can make you hungry. The place is staffed by teens - 20 something generation with a lot of different faces sometimes I think this hurts the consistency of the product one day a cheese steak is perfect and another it just edible. All the times I've been there I never get a feel for who runs the joint or oversees the the product going out the door represent the place. The food from the deli / sandwich side is always fresh and ingredients are generous to average but there is nothing about it that makes it stand out or pop it's just plain the food lacks a signature flavor or any special ingredients like a special style pepper or oil or even a roll that was crispier crusted or fresher it's just plain Jane nothing makes it a must return to spot to get more of something you love. Why I occasionally eat here is cause the hours are convenient they always seem to be open and your in and out pretty quick. The cooler with snack items is worth exploring for regional goodies like Hot Boloney but their style Soupie is not mine and I think it lacks the zest I look for. Following the death of our loved one, my brother sent me a "cheese and meat platter" from this local deli. I was horrified to discover that there was no condiments -- like mustard, relish or mayonnaise, and no bread of any sort. So, I called the deli to enquire about what happened to the bread and condiments. I was told that this would've had to have been specified in the order. The thing is, my brother would never have known that there wasn't bread and condiments included -- unless Vine street deli gave him that information. The food is subpar compared to other area sub/pizza shops. The pizza was just horrible! It was paper thin and tasted very old, somewhat stale even. I always say there are no bad pizzas. This pizza proved me wrong. As far as sandwiches go, they do have a nice long roll and decent prices. BLT is good. Unfortunately they are not very consistent with their sandwich making and that could be due to the constantly changing faces I see there. I also hate placing a pickup order before going in as it seems they are more likely to get it wrong that way. On average I have had more orders go wrong then right. In addition, the ppl who work there could be friendlier. Customer service does not seem to be high on the priority list. My family and I continue to eat there on occasion solely as it is convenient at times. We just don't expect much when we do. It is always our last option. They have a variety of chips, beverages, snacks and local favorites like jars of bologna and soupie, salads and stuff as well. read more
