Do NOT skip on the oil. It is important. If it usually isn't your thing on a hoagie try spreading your wings. The oil makes this hoagie the best in Bloom. I dietarily am now limited to on certain sandwich's and this tuna sub makes me feel so extremely satisfied when I am in the mood for some good old fashioned deli food. They do it right, staff is kind and attentive, their bread is very tasty, and their product is consistent. Not much else can be asked of a sub shop. Steph's does it right. read more

I wish I could give it no stars because the lady steph is too damn old to be that rude . Not only was she walking around with a stank face, she had the audacity to yell at an employee who wasn't even working at the time of my visit, who were nothing but kind. In fact the employee even got on the phone and took orders to help out even though she wasn't on the clock and still got pulled aside by the owner to get yelled at for something infront of a bunch of customers. On top of that the owner promoted the bacon to me which I put in my sandwich and it was awful. So the food and customer service is absolute trash and I will go to Pink Weiners before I ever return to Stephs Subs(and ion even eat hot dogs). read more

This order was placed as take out on Sunday 11/27/22. So disappointed with this order! The Italian dressing given to me for my chef salad tasted rancid, I ended up throwing the whole thing away. I also bought a sub for a later meal that was swimming in oil and hot peppers, the very things I asked not to have added. Overall a total bust for 2 meals! read more

We were driving on the highway and was caught in a bad thunderstorm so we stopped by a small town that we have never heard of (which turned out to be Bloomsburg). It was around dinner time so me and my friends decided to eat in the town. We decided to go to Steph's Subs based on yelp reviews. This place is a small local sub store. The nice thing about this place is that the people who work there are nice and friendly. Another nice thing is that you can actually see the staff making the sub in front of you and they really make one carefully. (It's not like other sub stores where they throw in ingredients on the bread and 1/3 of the lettuce going into the trash). The ingredients are in a refrigerator with a clear door where you can see how fresh the ingredients are. I tried a hot sausage sub because I never saw this type of sub in other places. The sausage is not one of those cheap ones that go into a $1 hot dog but seemed like a handmade sausage (not sure if they made it themselves). The spicy curly fries were also good. Not too spiced but just the right amount. My friends ordered normal fries and I tried a few and I could tell that they used fresh oil. I would give them a four-star only because it is very unlikely that I would be able to try it again!! read more

While I still don't truly understand the feud between them and Berrigan's that occurred over a decade ago, all I care is that they constantly provide a great sandwich option at a decent price in downtown Bloomsburg. I grew up on Berrigan's and my Dad would often stop through Bloom on his way home from work on a Friday night to surprise us with a ham/cheese with oil, mayo, and lettuce (I didn't like tomatoes back then and onions? Yuck, no way). What a memory I have of these and Steph's is the exact same recipe as I got back in the 80's and 90's as a kid so when I'm back in town, it's where I go. The ordering can be slightly chaotic and if they are busy, you wonder if people are waiting in line or just for their food. While I was there on a typical lunch rush hour and there were five people inside standing there, none still needed to be waited on. The staff seemed a tad frazzled but did a great job accommodating both those that needed to be helped and others that were simply waiting on their food. The bread is extra doughy-soft, some of the best I've ever had. While I've started to shy away from the oil based topping, the other ingredients are super fresh. I like that they now offer hot peppers as a typical add-on, I don't remember that before. I'm not sure I've ever once tried a hot sub here because the cold ones are too spectacular to change up. Get a side of their curly fries which balances out the sandwich well. Or a bag of the Pennsylvania-famous Middleswarth chips which they have plenty of in the back of the restaurant. Saddle up to the lunch counter or the handful of tables around the tiny store. The only thing I wish they still had was a retro arcade game in the back that you could play, everything else is exactly how I remember it, consistent and delicious. read more

After ordering for dine it took 55mins to get 5 subs. They brought the first sub out after 30mins. Then while my wife was eating I noticed a black dot on the bottom of her bun. Thought it was burnt bread nope. It was a bug. We told the girl here and she says " oh that's a bummer". That is it. Other than that everything is generic tasting and blah. My wife ordered some subs for us and a mini pizza for our children. Called it in at 6:40. Will be done in 10 minutes, they said. I show up at 7:15 and the girls working the counter are gabbing with their friends, my sub still isn't finished. Being the nice guy that I am, I still leave a tip. Get home, they forgot to put cheese on my sub, they got my wife's sub wrong, and the pizza was burnt. So I call back and ask to speak with a manager. We don't really have a manager right now they say. Well, maybe you should have a manager and maybe you should also take some pride in your job. Go to Berrigan's, OIP, or Unida instead. read more

DIRTY I was just to this establishment within the past 20 minutes to get a sub. When I went in to pick it up I handed the girl (heavy set, braided pony tail, light brown hair) at the register my credit card. she had gloves on and took my credit card out of my hand put it in the credit card machine, went over to a sub she was making spread on mayonnaise came back to the credit card machine pressed the button to give me a receipt then went back to the hoagie, put meat on it, then turned back to credit card machine, handed it to me, handed me a dirty pen to sign with and turned back to finish the hoagie she was making. The food here is BLAND. Got the chicken steak and meatball sub and both had zero flavor. Fries are dry and don't come with any ketchup. The people working there seemed to mostly follow covid precautions (saw a couple people with masks pulled down or off while they were amongst themselves but pulled them up when we entered). They also asked for us to wait outside while they prepped the order, good to see them taking it seriously. read more

Very disappointed today after I picked up my subs. I asked for two whole ham and cheese. One with everything including xtra mayo and peppers. I literally had to look for the mayo and peppers. On my whole sub I counted 6 pieces of onion. Meat was minimal and cheese was barely present. It seems stefs has employees that are not in to their jobs like past employees. My sub maker was worried about his quiting time more then making my sub. In guessing there was a magic tourney somewhere he was in a hurry for. In closing I will not be going back. Headed here right at lunchtime (12:00). entered to find a line of about 5 people. Pretty organized to a point. But some people paid when they ordered and some when they received their order. Now mine was a to-go order. I ordered the Italian light mayo, no onion and toasted. Waited maybe 10 mins max. when the guy gave me my sub, he asked if I paid already. This was the same guy that took my order. This to me is a loophole where money can be lost. Me being honest, said I did not pay. Imagine how many people see this as an opportunity to get a free meal. Total was around $8. Headed back my office. Sub was tasty, very tasty. Just the right amount of everything. Roll was toasted perfect and was not soggy. They put mayo and oil on the subs. 9/6/18 I ordered a whole canadian bacon hot sub. Pretty simple right....????? WRONG! Their menu clearly states: Hot Submarines In The Garden Add Green Peppers & Mushrooms: Half - $0.25, Whole - $0.50. All hot garden subs are served with mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and hot peppers unless otherwise specified. The first time I got my sub it had no toppings. I called to let them know and the guy asked specifically if I wanted mayo on it. I told him I did along with everything else it is supposed to come with. The second time they bring my "correct" sub, once again it is WRONG. This time it had lettuce, tomato, onions, and Italian dressing. No mayo and no hot peppers?????? I called and told them my sub still wasn't right and not to bother bringing another one. I will never order from them again......ridiculous. Total waste of $15.00 ($11.00 for the sub and a $4.00 tip). read more

I always get everything on my hoagies as they have the best oil and pepper combination ever! Their buffalo chicken salad has just enough kick to it. Chef salad is fulfilling and not chintzy. First try tonight. Ordered subs to go. First off, they were HUGE. We ordered whole size, not realizing.. 16" long. Keep in mind the Subway footlongs are more like 10". Their bread is delicious. Subs had just the right proportion of meat, cheese, toppings and dressing. I had a "regular" or something similarly named: "old fashioned loaf" (or something along those lines), ham, and salami with cheese. They have got hot pepper relish also, which to me is an essential on a good hoagie. No exaggeration, this was the best sandwich I've had in the area in memory. Definitely coming back for more. Meh, I've experienced a lot better elsewhere. All I know is that the first and last time I ate here I commented to my girlfriend about how it is against PA health code regulations to not wear a hat or some type of head covering to protect the food from hair and bacteria. It took 45 minutes (yes FORTY FIVE MINUTES) for me to get my sub. i finally asked what was going on, and no one apologized. they actually looked annoyed that i bothered to ask them what was taking so long. I grew up in Bloomsburg and my first stop when I visit is always Steph's-- and my family and friends feel likewise! The combo of a fresh sub or a Cosmo (melted perfectly in a toaster oven) and Middlesworth BBQ chips is really, really hard beat. I especially like: Cheese Cosmo*, Ham & Cheese Cosmo*, Chicken or Italian subs (with everything of course). Having moved to the Midwest I can tell you the mix put on Steph's subs is unique-- mayo, seasoned oil, shakers (salt, pepper, parma cheese and oregano-- I think), and peppers. The peppers make the sub-- they are hot but not to hot, and pack in so much flavor. read more

This used to be a good place to order from, with reasonable prices and decent food. My family ordered from here regularly for years. Then the service and quality went way downhill while the prices went up. But I gave in when my kids asked for Steph's and gave them another chance tonight. Boy, was that dumb. I called in an order for two sandwiches and two orders of fries around 6:00. I was told it would be 30-45 minutes and knew that meant at least an hour, because, well, it's Steph's. But you know that going in, so you can't expect anything different. Almost an hour later I got a phone call. They realized they were out of the meat for the cold sub. Which for some reason I can't understand but had to hear all about, was all the delivery guy's fault. How it can be the delivery guy's fault when they hadn't even started to make it yet is beyond me,but she went into some detail badmouthing this guy. I had to ask my children what they wanted in its place, which made the curt young thing on the other end lose what little patience she had to start. Sorry, it's not MY fault that it took you almost an hour to figure it out and tell me about it. What's the hurry now? So I changed the order and asked how long it would be. ANOTHER "30-45 minutes!" I mentioned the time I originally ordered and pointed out that I'd been told 30-45 minutes almost an hour ago. Her reply? "Oh well. Talk to the delivery guy." ***** To my surprise it was only a little over a half-hour later when a different, actually pleasant young woman delivered...someone else's food. At least I hope it wasn't supposed to be ours. Two sandwiches were completely wrong, meant to be hot subs but well past the stage where they could be called "hot". One of them was a hot sausage sandwich which was pink and raw inside, and the bread (normally the best part of a Steph's sub) so soaked with cold spaghetti sauce that it couldn't be picked up with your hands. Which saved me from ingesting the raw pork, so I guess it's not all bad. The other was a meatball that was also drowned in cold spaghetti sauce and soggy to the point of mush, topped with a gob of rubber that was once cheese and served with stone cold half-cooked fries full of pieces of what I believe (or hope) was breading of some kind. The BLT we actually did order was cold hard bacon, overcooked in a microwave then shoved into a bun without tomato or mayonnaise. Of course considering the condition of the rest of the food, no mayonnaise was probably a good thing. But even worse than the cold raw pork and mystery burnt pieces in the fries was this... I was charged .75 for a side of cheese for the fries. I received about a tablespoon of something cold and orange that, when I turned over the container to tip it out, sat on the plate and wiggled like a tiny Day-Glo jello mold. Garnished with hair. HAIR! My preteen son was even grossed out. That takes some real effort. Whether deliberately or by accident they did throw in an extra... of one of the wrong subs... and never bothered to change the ticket from my original (and higher priced) order. For all the good an "extra" does, since we didn't order it and won't...can't... eat it. I called Steph's, and as usual when an order is wrong or a delivery takes an hour and a half was told if I was unhappy I could call back and speak to the owner tomorrow. Normally it's just not worth the aggravation and I think that's what they bank on. For THIS I will for all the good it will probably do. But that won't feed my kids tonight. It's after 8:00 and I'm now cooking after being stiffed good money for garbage. Update: After a conversation with the owner I did receive a refund, although I had to argue a bit for it. Her initial response was "It's already happened and there's nothing I can do about it" and also blamed the mystery delivery guy (who must be the cook too if serving up raw pork with a side of hair was his fault, which explains a few things) or rather, blamed ME for not being more understanding about him and bothering her with my problem. The fact that as a paying and one time regular customer my children went hungry for close to 2 hours, I was given attitude and had to put up with listening to her employees badmouthing each other for the privilege of paying good money for an incorrect order of unsanitary food seemed to have been completely lost on her, as was the concept of a simple apology (which, for future reference, goes a long way).
