Worst cheese steak ever. 1st one was steak 'um. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING 2nd one was "philly cheese steak". Maybe 3oz of "shaved rib eye" DOUSED with some cheese sauce AND LOADED with black pepper. And they had the internal fortitude to charge me "extra" because of the rib eye. While I am not a resident of this town, I will never ever come back to this place. Tried it for the first time. My sister is a local resident and it's definitely some of the cheapest around. The slices are ridiculously hefty! Loaded with cheese. Absolutely worth the money. Highly recommend and we'll most definitely order again to try more! A decent portion of popcorn chicken and fries. Both were nothing spectacular. Run of the mill chicken and fries. The funnel fries were the most disappointing but still pretty good. The portion was minuscule compared to the pizza and chicken. All in all, order here! I will again. read more

We've passed this shop on the way to downtown Jim Thorpe a number of times and the four star rating on Yelp had me thinking this would be a hidden gem. We ordered a steak sub, hot ham and cheese and the American. They were edible mut meh. Lacked flavor. I think the bread makes a sub and the bread here is just not amazing. The sandwiches lacked flavor and the meats felt cheap. You wont be miserable eating here but definitely not something to go out of your way to visit. read more

Holy crap, first of all, this spot bakes their own freaking breads, and it's AMAZING. Down home American style diner cooking, packed with flavor, fresh ingredients, and friendly smiling staff who brought a smile to my face. I'm pretty sure they make everything from scratch, in house, from local ingredients. Better than any wawa, subway, or any other fast food you could imagine, and they even have alcoholic slushees for 4$... maybe next time, but I'm definitely going to be coming here regularly. Nice little neighborhood sandwich shop with an eclectic mix of items: Coca-Cola Freestyle machine for fountain sodas, a wall of refrigerated individual sodas and beer, plus 40 oz. beer and 6-packs, plus 2-liters sodas, iced tea, and milk, plus a wide range of specialty sandwiches, a few salads and entrees plus pizza, either slices or whole pies. The desserts all look delicious: slices of cheese cake, individually wrapped brownies and some half pies. A sign hangs on the refrigerated case that alcohol is for take-out only -- you cannot drink it in their dining room. Strangely enough, they also sell lottery tickets, cigarettes, and Cracker Jack and bagged Trolli gummi candy. I don't know why, but the Freestyle machine doesn't have root beer, but they do have other non-caffeinated choices. If you want root beer, they do have it in individual bottles. Seating is a pair of standard sandwich shop four-seater booths, plus about eight stools arranged at two different counters. A TV was playing the Phillies game live when my girlfriend and I were there. I got the 8" steak sandwich, fries and fountain soda special for $8.49. My girlfriend got "pizza fries", a fountain soda and a brownie. I got enough fries for two people, though Kelly said that they do reheat well in the oven... Our total was something like $18.xx. This is a good place for sandwiches. The Hoagies have really nice rolls and they pile on the ingredients. They have a special sandwich with french fries on top that looked good but I simply added my own fries to the top. Nothing super special....just a really decent sandwich shop. Best cheesesteak in the area, best $5 burger I've ever eaten (Olympian cheeseburger with LTO/mayo/ketchup), top-notch hoagies that are in one way very plain but still manage to be a high quality sandwich, and the angel steak (a chicken sandwich) is the bomb. I get mine with LTO/cheese/mayo. Oh and did I mention that they bake their own fresh bread daily? That's right. No store-bought garbage rolls from a plastic bag. Bread can be an integral part of a good burger/sandwich/hoagie/cheesesteak and Tommy's nails it with their quality sandwich rolls. The owner actually bakes them every night, so they're fresh for the next day, at like 2am. If you are looking for a sit-down dinner type of place, this isn't it. It's a sub shop. But if you are looking for a sandwich in Carbon County, Tommy's is top dog. Don't be fooled by the overpriced tourist traps on Broadway! Most of them have inflated prices and par to sub-par food. Hands down one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The cheesesteak meat was not chopped up like everywhere else, it had layers of meat, a good amount of cheese, and mushrooms, but the best part was the homemade roll. This sandwich shop literally makes me wish I lived closer to the area. I was in town for the weekend, and I went back to the place twice for sandwiches. The bread was awesome, the meat was great, everything tasted freshly sliced and yummy. Highly recommend the Italian hoagie. I'm not a huge fan of oil or mayo, and I loved that this sandwich comes with an Italian vinaigrette that adds a ton of flavor. The menu is WAY huger than you'd think after reading the reviews on yelp. They have tons of sandwiches of course, but lots of appetizers, fried eats, platters, and daily specials. And amazingly, everything is priced about 4 dollars less than what you'd normally spend too. At least, normally spend in my Philly suburbs. I only wished that the counter girl was a bit friendlier. It was obviously my first time, as i was staring at the menu for about 1500 minutes. But unfortunately, she just stood at the counter and never me if I needed any help. Ah well. The girl who made my sandwich on my second visit made up for it though! I noticed my first visit that they didn't cut their (huuuge) sandwiches, which made for awkward eating. So the second time, I asked for a knife without explaining why. The girl who made my sandwich actually asked why I needed it, and when I explained why she was like "oh, no problem". I split the 12 inch Rambo with buffalo chicken cheese steak. This sub is loaded with fries, mozzarella sticks and other fried goodness on top of the cheese steak. It totally hit the spot after 5 hours of water rafting. They were out of pizza slices when we went so we got some chicken fingers instead. They were really dry. But I liked the honey mustard sauce. I love Tommy's and here's why: - The atmosphere and music make me feel like I'm in 1991 walking home from school and digging out change from my backpack to pay for a lollipop. - The hoagies here cost probably the same as they did in 1991. I got a hoagie stuffed with turkey meat (and not blobby slimy turkey meat either), on 8 inches of a soft, but not too thick, homemade roll (for under $5!) - They have brownies for sale at the counter that I'm yet to try but let me tell you, I got so excited when I picked one up I almost jumped up and clicked my heels. I could feel the moist chocolate gooey tongue utopia through the Saran Wrap in my hands and (drumroll) a pretzel crust!!! I'm kicking myself in the rump while I eat my fat free fig Newton for not buying one of those babies.
